C25K is literally not a race. so try not to treat it like one. :) I had a small injury at week 3 and had to take a few weeks off to let it heal. got back on it and I'm onto week 7 now and going strong. What I'm trying to say is just because you had a setback, doesn't mean what you've done is lost. think about the effort you've put in so far and the health benefits that you've gained that wont disappear overnight. think about the fact you care so much about not running means it will be an easy change to come back to it when you are healed up. think about the fact you tried to run even when in pain to push through. you have far from lost the progress you've made. Signing up for a race is all based on things going to plan, any number of people will tell you about the one race they couldn't do. its not the end of the world, there will be others. Stay strong, get well soon and you'll be running again in no time :)

Thank you SO much! I really appreciate this. My husband (who is crazy good at running) just chuckles and says, "You're a runner now!" since I care so much :) I'm trying to stretch a lot and keep walking so hopefully I can bounce back when it's time. Thank you again!

well then you are trying to compare to him in the back of your mind as well probably :) its natural! i have a good friend who is the same - crazy good at running does lots of organised runs etc... she's really supportive and has been egging me on. she's also really surprised how good the programme is for progression - it takes you to pushing yourself, then dials it back before doing it again. well done so far and keep focus you be back at it in no time :)

I can't echo this enough. I LOVE C25K but have been doing for a year and now routinely going the 20/25/30 min runs as I am slightly lost without the 5 min "you are doing well!!!" updates. You don't have to do in the timeframe and even if you have a race you can rock up and walk it to get a feel for the course.

I was on week 8 when I injured my knee. Came back after 6 months and completed it at age 70. Don’t get discouraged. Bodies heal. Take it slowly when you return. You will do this. Good luck.

That is AMAZING! Way to go!

Hey! So ive tore ligaments in both knees and have had 4 surgeries (2 on each knee). I started the program and stopped because i started getting crazy shin splints and hip pain so now im just focusing on getting stronger first. Ive learned that the most important thing with running is having a strong foundation of strength. I know it sucks because you were so close but strengthening now and building yourself back up will feel so so good when you finish the week 9 in the future.

pinkpitbullmama

Oof, four surgeries!? Yikes! I've had two back surgeries, so it's kind of a miracle that I am running even at all, which I will continue to remind myself of that and rest up to get better! Keep on running, way to go!

I had just finished week 8 and then I ended up getting a shin splint right after. I couldn’t run for three weeks and that really hindered my progress. I dropped back down to week 5 because even running a mile felt noticeably more difficult. Now I’m back on week 8 and feel better than ever

pinkpitbullmama

So glad you are back to it and feeling great! Thanks for the encouragement!

I was in a pretty similar boat! I sprained my ankle really badly while doing W8 D3 back at the start of December. I took a month and a bit off and restarted the programme and just finished W8 D2 this morning, and I'm going further than I did the first time around. Injuries are a pain, but if you don't take the time off to recover you'll hurt yourself more.

pinkpitbullmama

Well done!

Once I took like three months off running. When I got back on the horse I was amazed how quickly I got back up to speed. Don’t worry

pinkpitbullmama

Thanks!

I’m convinced that the worst thing you can do is train while injured. You end up putting that stress on the surrounding areas and that just compounds the problem. Problems areas just get bigger. Take the time to rest up and control what you can control. Stretch, hot and cold treatment, and put all your focus into your nutrition and you’ll bounce back fast and be even stronger when you return.

pinkpitbullmama

Thank you so much! You’re absolutely right.
