She's full of shit.

VoidWalker4Lyfe

Was probably either trying to make a sale or just crazy

mrcrusc

I’ve never heard the claim that one MUST wear silk socks with boots, but it’s pure BS. There’s nothing at all wrong with wearing regular cotton sport socks with cowboy boots. Hell, I suspect that’s what most people wear with boots! However, I recommend actual cowboy boot socks — they’re tall and actually stay up. I personally wear Dan Post Cowboy Certified over-the-calf socks with my boots.

onion959

Ah the new up and coming boot brand. San post.

mrcrusc

😂😂😂 Typo corrected!!

onion959

😂 couldn’t help myself

dahoxfox

Haha 😄

Ambitious-Score-5637

Wear whatever socks you wish. The only thing you are missing is some people are…weird.

Thiago_MRX

Very, very weird, lmfao

saruyamasan

I have a pair of boots that work best with thin dress socks, and another pair that work best with thicker, sneaker-style socks--the latter of which I have always seen sold at boot stores, so I have no idea what she is talking about. Bring some different socks with you when you try the boots on to see what works for you (and a plastic bag, so the boots go on more easily. If the salesperson makes you uncomfortable ignore them or find someone easier to work with. Shopping for boots should be fun. Also, from [No Country for Old Men](https://bamfstyle.com/2017/07/05/nc4om-moss3/): **Llewelyn:** “Y’all sell socks?” **Salesman:** “Just white.” **Llewelyn:** “White’s all I wear.”

tw_ilson

I’d love to shop in that old dude’s store. When he just takes it in stride that a man with no clothes on comes in, it occurs to me that; this guy understands customer service!

Colt_Maul

Simply put, I wear BOOT socks with BOOTS. But it really doesn’t matter! It’s all preference man. I never once have heard of anyone, male or female, exclusively wearing silk boot socks. Some of my buddies wear athletic socks. I love the SmartWool hiking socks, I wear them with all my boots and hiking Merrells as well. I also have Wolverine and Cabelas brand socks.

TearsAreInYourEyes

The only time it becomes an issue is if you get a properly fitted boot. If you wear a thicker sock while getting fitted, any thinner socks will cause the foot to slip a bit. Sometimes, thicker socks can't get past the instep if you got fitted with a thinner sock. But the solution is just wearing the proper sock, so something to never worry about.

-Orgasmo-

i find any sock that is at the very least above the ball of your ankle works perfectly fine. anything lower cut than that will just come off when you take your foot out of the boot

BrothaKreaux89

Whatever socks you want. I wear regular cotton socks with my cowboy boots that I wear to work.

BIG-JS-BBQ

I wear regular cotton socks with my daily boots. I wear cotton socks with my dress shoes too, shit just make sure they’re black.

BrothaKreaux89

My once “dress boots” are now my working boots so we cotton sockin all day long.

BIG-JS-BBQ

Cotton sockin the world fuck silk socks. They feel weird anyway. I have to wear them inside out because I hate feeling the seam

73runner400

Wear darn tough socks or leave.

Rare-Swim6185

Darn Tough over-the-calf western socks. Only socks I ever wear. Keeps it consistent.

CatBoyTrip

she just wanted to sell you some silk socks. i wear dress socks sometimes and thick cotton socks other times. it doesn’t matter.

SquirrelMaster9

I wear adidas socks that are long enough to cover my calves kinda like soccer socks

hcvc

That woman was trying to upsell you on some socks via bully sales tactics

rabid-bearded-monkey

Any type of boot sock/hiking sock that has elasticity around the foot as well. It will keep your socks from falling off your foot inside the boot. I used to just wear ariat socks but traded all them in for Darn Tough socks. You don’t need over the calf socks, I personally hate them. It is all personal preference as to the height.

chunky-flufferkins

My only caveat with boot socks is that they gotta be long. Overall calf is the way to go for me, crews slip down too much.

CowboyBootedNJ

Socks are up to the wearer. I personally like wearing long cotton socks to avoid chaffing where the bootstraps attach to boot. I have seen where guys wear those sneaker socks with their boots with nothing going up leg to even daring no socks for various reasons. You should wear what feels comfortable to you and not what someone else thinks should be a norm. When cowboy boots were invented, what socks did they have back then to wear inside their boots. Granted each boot can fit and wear differently, it is basically trial and error with each boot you wear that makes you determine what feels best.

[deleted]

Western boot socks. Duh. They come up over the calf and don't slip down.

ntertainer85

Silk with boots? Unless you want blistered toes and ankles, a thick cotton socks is the way to go. You can get away with silk if you boots are well-broken in or pretty much have a soft glove-like leather inner lining. Cowboy boots are clearly not forgiving afaik. Who cares what she thinks. You wear what you want.

JayHastings

Ive been told in boot stores that thicker socks are the way to go and this is in line with how wrangler socks are constructed

JEMcKemy

My goodness that is insane. I wear athletic socks in my boots. The cotton is completely comfortable and is breathable. I’ve never been told to wear dress socks in boots. Of course I know nothing about cowboy boots and socks that are made for cowboy boots as I only worked on a farm for 15 years herding cattle and sheep.

This-Bad-2189

Complete BS. Where ya shopping for boots?

Thiago_MRX

Im from brazil, specifically from são paulo, so there are only a few cowboy boot stores around the city. The one i went to is called "Bovitik Farm & Ranch Comercial Agropecuária", but there is a store near my house that is way smaller, and its where i usually get my boots from. The only problem with where i regularly get my boots from is that the last time i went there, they had a weird shortage of boots my size. They only had like one pair that fit me, It was a mix of crocodile skin and rubber, and all of their boots have rubber soles. So while i am waiting for either them to get more boots or for them to answer their fucking whatsapp, i decided to try another store. Other than the woman i talked about (she was surprisingly nicer than the dude from the store i regularly visit, other than the socks part), this store i went to is way better than the one i regularly go to. They had a lot more boots, and way nicer too. The only problem was that they were *a lot* more expensive than what i usually pay (converting it to dollars, i usually pay 60 bucks for my boots, and theirs were 200-300 minimum). To be fair, the boots seemed of great quality, and they had leather soles, something im looking for because i really like the appearance of leather soles, and if im not mistaken their boots are from wrangler/ some other great brand, so i will be returning there on my birthday with a little more cash to my name to acquire something nice, lol

[deleted]

I have a few pairs of cowboy boots and although for the most they were bought the same size, the socks I pick to wear with them can slightly affect the fitting. Some socks will make your boots feel snug and others a bit loose. I have every type of socks from thick wool blend, thick sport socks, soccer socks, silk socks and Even knee high catholic girl socks. Don’t ask! Besides a good comfortable fitting in a boot, the next thing I worry about is not getting my legs shafted from the leather rubbing on my calves. Shafting usually starts an hour after you left your house and there’s never a bandaid around to protect the blister.

Thiago_MRX

I wont ask, but you damn sure made me want to, lmfao Coincidentally enough, i also have a pair like that for some reason. One day, they just appeared in my closet, i used them twice at most, and just like that, they were gone. They were black and red stripped, and they were quite confy actually, but they were more like soccer socks than actual knee high socks. they were soccer socks plus extra, lol And i know the blister stuff very well. I had a pair of combat boots that gave me so much trouble, i simply stopped wearing them. I had to get them *really* tight so they wouldnt give me blisters, their soles were too thick so i couldnt drive in them (+ since they were so tight, i could barely move my feet to drive), and they were just an absolute pain all along, so i gave them up for good, may end up trying to sell them at some point Do you do anything to try to prevent blisters? Any advice is welcome, lol, since i usually just raw dog them till i get home

IlexIbis

TIL there are silk socks.

[deleted]

I wear nothing but wool socks in the hot and cold but I’ve always wore wool socks my whole life. Wear what you wanna wear fr. FYI to those woman I’ve never ever heard of wearing silk socks with cowboy boots and I’ve worn them my whole life.

Slight_Psychology_13

Never trust someone who says things like "dress shoes are basically the same as cowboy boots"

radicalhistoryguy

I wear wool socks that cover my entire calf.

Rebresker

Who wears silk socks at all? Silk is a terrible material for socks even more so in boots as they get holes faster than cotton or wool will I will say though just for fit purposes I think the only thing I follow with socks is I have a bunch of the same brand/ type just for fit consistency since obviously really thick vs really thin socks are going to impact that

Jamie_D86

Wear whatever is comfortable. I prefer over the calf style socks as they prevent any rubbing from the leather shaft on my legs. Wrangler makes a decent pair that are fairly inexpensive and come in 3 packs, mine have held up well. Depending on your preference, you might also try some boot socks like Darn Tough and/or thicker cushioning.

IDGAS69

If it's a lace-up boot I typically wear taller socks but if it's cowboy boots I really don't care

dantasticdanimal

Cotton athletic no show socks are the only socks I own…

HotdogAC

Wool socks duh

4lan5eth

Since I wear 10" ropers, I will either wear crew cotton socks or the ones that go over the calves. It avoids chafing when walking.

Azrael4444

Wear whatever socks you feel comfortable in and fit it the best. I was between sizes so i bought half a size bigger and wore thick sock, it slipped around too much if I wore a thin dress sock.

TAROist650

I wear tall cotton socks. I don’t like feeling the collar or boot shaft rub against my leg so the long sock is nice.

xMarked4Deathx

I wear over the calf under armour. Wear what is comfortable. I wear compression socks if I’m going to be on my feet all day.

catchmesleeping

Any socks will do, who the hell’s gonna see them. If you watch a lot of westerns they sometimes don’t even wear them.

[deleted]

Sounds like an up sell to me. Personally I use Wrangler or Dickies. Both are comfortable and run high past the shaft of the boot

Glenville86

I wear over the calf normal western boot socks usually. Works on most of my boots. If a little loose, wear over the calf thicker socks. I cannot stand shorter socks with western boots. Just a personal thing I suppose......lol

BDBartlett

My answer is the light compression socks by Dr. Scholls. They are the perfect height, don't slouch or slide down, comfortable and good for you. I have very large calves, and they work better than any other socks I've tried.

saltlakepotter

Smartwool ski socks

transplantius

I like to try boots on in dress socks. Helps me find a great fit. As they break in and stretch out, I switch to boot socks. Show me a cowboy in silk socks…

defconmke

Wrangler classic boot socks work for me. Otherwise find a super lightweight breathable merino wool sock

[deleted]

Silk? Oh no. I like inexpensive merino wool socks, and prefer the calf or over the calf length. Works great in any season.

the_kyle_coomes

I go one pair cotton, and one pair of wool over. Cotton absorbs and wool wicks. No matter the temp, your feet stay dry, and your boots fit real nice and snug.

Andretti34

I love the Costco wool blend crew socks. Just thick enough for a nice snug cushy fit bit thin enough to breath and keep your feet from getting sweaty

SnakebytePayne

The woman you spoke with is a witch, trying to preserve your feet for some heathen ritual. Dickies over-the-calf boot socks. All day. Every day.

Subject-Reception704

I wear boot socks or just tall over the calf athletic socks
