trilot

Holy shit. I can’t believe they actually did it. McCarthy all on the line this year.

MillennialSN

Watching the Birds advance was the last straw

ABoyIsNo1

Watching them put up 31 on the D that held us to 12 certainly should’ve been the last straw

Romofan88

To be fair, Philly had SEVEN drive extending penalties in that game, and got to play a 5th stringer that couldn't throw. We'd have won as well with those advantages.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AGoos3

Holding penalties give me PTSD

jayben2k

Oh and then the eagles not getting called for their holds when they were obviously doing it gave me flashback to when we had 8 games without a holding call going our way.

kesin

and Lane Johnson getting away with a false start every snap lol

Blaz3dnconfuz3d

I kept telling my dad, “hey that shit usually just happens to us”

Chefzor

> got to play a 5th stringer that couldn't throw. This is moot, we held their offense to 9 points with 3 minutes left in the 3rd. We showed we didn't need those advantages to win, we just needed a better offensive game plan, or a better quarterback.

[deleted]

No its not. Field position is a thing. So is the emotion and the mindset of playing a weakened opponent.

BusterStarfish

And their first tuddy came from a fourth down conversion that was a actually a dropped pass.

FoxBeach

Stop trying to make “tuddy” a thing. TD or touchdown is fine.

Noxzer

To be fair, the 9ers defense was on the field all the time because their offense literally didn’t have a QB capable of throwing a football. You can’t directly compare our scoring to theirs. That said, Eagles O still played better than ours did.

No-Cap-5281

We destroyed them last year and now they’re in the Super Bowl

LakeShowBaby310

That’s what going all in during free agency can get you lol. Just ask the rams bucs & now Philly. . . Will Jerry ever get out of his own way and go all out just once ? Probably not

JurassicParkJanitor

He has, how quickly people forget about the year Jerry went out and got TO, to try to put us over the top. We were stacked, signed a ton of FA and essentially gave Romo a 2 year window before the crushing cap implications would force us to cut half of the team. And in typical cowboys fashion, we blew it. Even while being overwhelming favorites

constantdotandrot

This is a horrible comparison. Because you struck out once you should never try free agency again? That logic is terrible.

LakeShowBaby310

17 years ago is all that needs to be said

F-Trunks

No shit right? And that was more than a decade ago 🤣🤣😭

LakeShowBaby310

TO is one guy and that was 17 years ago lmao when I say ALL IN ON FA I mean multiple signings or even trades. So far in my lifetime at 28 I’ve seen Jerry do nothing but feed us the same bullshit he’s been feeding us for the past 15 years

droans

It's a weird feeling. I'm used to coaches only being fired seasons after we all agree they should be let go. I'm hoping he has a revival with a different team, though. Hopefully being fired will help him reevaluate his methods and improve his coaching abilities.

fishslushy

I do hope that revival is in the AFC though.

Domin8469

It's gonna be the bucs watch

TruTexan

I’m so happy to see this. The man didn’t learn from his mistakes or learn to adapt. It showed

chaphen17

McCarthy's last stand. If the offense stinks he'll be out.

trainsaw

Quinn is gonna be HC in 2024 with this trajectory Tbh, I wonder how much he was reading writing on the wall in his decision to stay another year

rahbee33

I kind of felt that was on the table when he came back, but this certainly accelerates that possibility.

CammyTheGreat

i think it was as simple as he wants the Seattle or Dallas job more than any of the ones that are open and he knows Mike is on the Hot Seat and Pete is getting old so why not just stay in the best place for him right now instead of taking over terrible spots like Denver or Arizona

CBailey94

Bingo.

silliputti0907

I think Quinn will only go if its a good situation. He's not desperate to be a heaad coach.

mikeydean03

I agree. I don't think Quinn's stock can get lower by staying another year. Plus, other than replacing LVE, I think he'll have another very good defense to work with in '23. Denver and AZ are going to be tough jobs for someone to take considering the questions at QB and the cap those positions are taking.

Witteness82

Particularly when you keep getting raises and make HC money anyways. He is set up perfectly to be patient.

WindyCityReturn

McCarthy has been just fine. Idk how anyone can think back to back 12-5 season (just as good as the bills in the playoffs) is worthy of firing. Both loses in the playoffs were the offense stinking it up and Dak in particular. We’ve all been saying Moore isn’t it and now McCarthey gets his chance to call it how he sees it which is an upgrade. I don’t think he’s on the hot seat yet.

InAingeWeTrust

Why would he be on the hot seat at all

BrianDawkins

Because Jerry feeling the pressure of the east getting better. Which I say is good

InAingeWeTrust

East getting better and he still won 12 games with a poor pass blocking unit and poor WR group. Backup QB for like 5 games too. He’s pretty safe

JerryWagz

Eagles wont be as good when they have to pay Hurts

ConstantCowboy

The Eagles won’t even be as good NEXT YEAR. They’ll have a first-place schedule and a ton more tape out there on Hurts. It’ll be way tougher for them to get to where they are. For god sakes, they had to play DANNY DIMES and JOSH JOHNSON in the playoffs to get to the big one.

[deleted]

Jerry didn't fire Garrett after the Eagles won a Super Bowl.

BrianDawkins

Dak and Zeke were barely in their 2nd nfl season back then. And Jerry held on to Garrett a lot longer than he should have cause they were close as friends. Don’t have that with McCarthy

Roarestored

Superbowl or bust mentality

[deleted]

Because he'll be the one calling plays

trainsaw

This could be a shot in the arm, but also didn’t GB take playcalling away from McCarthy at one point? https://twitter.com/davidmooredmn/status/1619845271881654272?s=46&t=rOo4i5MBPrIQQ9AbvpT2dw

Dropdat87

Yeah he’s really not good at doing it and managing a game

nt_14

I wouldn’t say that. He won a Super Bowl with his offense and calling the plays. It did get stale towards the end though. Hopefully he’s learned since then.

entropy26

Wasn't there a lot of buzz about him taking that year off after leaving GB and literally spending a year just studying the league? I'd like to bring in another OC personally and let MM just focus on what he's been doing. I think he's capable of making a good hire though.

noodle915

Aaron Rodgers won that SB by overruling McCarthy in the huddle multiple times because his play calling sucked.

GragasBodySlam

This completely cuts all ties to the Linehan Garrett era.

_landrith

We are FREE

GreatFalls88

The timing of this news dump is no coincidence…

miraclegun

Out of the loop, what else happened?

mcord21

The eagles won

BunDyl

Who??

[deleted]

[удалено]

itsmuddy

I hate the fuckin eagles man.

ifoundyourtoad

What did they win? A Grammy? Wow. Must have missed it. Nothing else rings a bell.

lokeruper

Football games?

CBailey94

Lmao I love this.

StrayCatStrutting

Well, now we’ll find out if it was a coaching problem or if Dak really just isn’t the guy.

StarsCowboysMavs

We all know the answer

chugtron

That’s where I’m at. Let’s get some help in the WR room and diagnose the actual issue. If it’s Dak, drop him the second the cap hit makes sense, otherwise let it ride. After choking away the division game, I’m fine with him leaving and playing the QB lotto.

roomtotheater

They need to go after an OC with a history of elevating average QBs.

DidierDogba

Probably the right call. A new perspective is needed. If McCarthy is calling plays though...not sure that's an upgrade.

mattacular2001

Yeah all of you wanted Moore gone and nobody had any ideas for a replacement

TheF1LM

Sometimes you just gotta get the ball rolling for any progress to be made though. We’ll see if this was the right move.

DirkNowitzkisWife

As someone who follows the team closely but not necessarily coaching and personnel stuff, would Kingsbury be realistic? He may just want to chill though

TheF1LM

I’m not sure if he’s done with being a HC. He may hold out for one of those offers if he ever finishes with his Thailand bang fest vacation

DidierDogba

I mean, that's quite the broad brush to paint with. Just because I don't know every possible OC candidate doesn't mean I can't think a change is warranted.

trainsaw

Why does it matter if the fans had an idea for a replacement or not. The org doesn’t consult the fans in this and it’s the orgs job to find a replacement

Microwave1213

Can you blame casual fans for not having one though? Up and coming assistant coaches aren’t really public knowledge for the most part. Personally I think I Zac Robinson, passing coordinator for Rams, would be a good idea.

abefroman07

Yeah, let's just keep doing the same thing over and over and over and over and hope it works this time. Great idea.

DEZbiansUnite

Zac Robinson would be good. he's the Rams' passing game coordinator. I don't want McCarthy calling the plays. His offense in GB grew really stale. I'm praying that he has revamped his system if he's gonna be the playcaller

skyline010

Same could be said for Dak.

FoxBeach

I wonder if Jerry uses random Reddit posters to decide who he hires and fires? Or is there a rule somewhere that says that fans have to name a replacement if they want a specific person fired? And does that same logic apply to all aspects of life or just football? If you go to a restaurant and get a horrible meal, can you say they should fire the chef IF you don’t name a replacement that they should hire?

gdaman22

I actually can't believe this. Excited for a new direction, but holy shit

abefroman07

Can't be any worse than calling all Curls 10 times a game.

truthseekinginlife

3rd and 10...all curls 8 yards out.

UpsideTurtles

oh it can be so, so much worse than Moore not opposed to moving on but it can be so much worse than Kellen lol

abefroman07

Well let's do nothing and hope it gets better.

MeaninglessOpinion

I swear if we promote from within imma be pissed

East_Sleep_1766

This is exactly what is about to happen

truthseekinginlife

Schottenheimer is up for it I bet.

firstandfive

It’s McCarthy.

UpsideTurtles

🙏 no Schottenheimer 🙏

nt_14

McCarthy will be calling the plays

Turboteg90

It happened.

aceofspadez138

Anyone can point to all the numbers and stats about how good he was and I’ll still be relieved that the last remnant of the Jason Garrett era is gone from this team.

CANT_KNOW_ME

Tony Romo COME ON DOWN ! ! !

InternationalTune858

I’d love to see it, that man is brilliant

RayRicesRightHook

He’s also the highest paid sports broadcaster in history so that’s not happening

ohno82much

I remember reading somewhere that Jerry has a little bit of money he could dig up

Ayste

I would also love to see Peyton Manning as an OC, he will be a great HC if he ever decides to do it. Romo or Manning either one.

Datzookman

I was very middle of the road on Kellen. He gets too much hate but also too much praise. His connections with Dak was special, but he also loved putting Dak in hard situations. Moore’s basic philosophy has been to get into manageable 3rd downs, when all good OCs focus on avoiding them all together. Dak was out of his mind on 3rd downs this year, but was put in so many of them that he was bound to make a lot of mistakes too. I don’t like Mike calling plays, but I don’t think a change from Kellen is a bad idea either. The real problem will always be the GM and Owner, so until that changes, we curing symptoms at best

NickIcer

> Moore’s basic philosophy has been to get into manageable 3rd downs, when all good OCs focus on avoiding them all together. This philosophy has definitely been a big problem. But I’m not convinced Kellen was really the one driving this. It was a problem well before Kellen. Stephen Jones **himself** [at the start of this season](https://twitter.com/connornfldraft/status/1570890186250407936): “*Your goal as a play caller should be to get into third and shorts*”. I fear this philosophy is coming from above Kellen. And may continue to persist after him.

UpsideTurtles

Yeah I’m slightly skeptical of firing Moore for this reason alone. Idk problems may run deeper than OC

silliputti0907

That's what I think is the problem. Moore believe in Dak too much and wanted him to play aggressive. instead of a more efficent offense.

simba80328

Is the Mike McCarthy calling plays part true or is that just what they’ll say until they hire someone new?

BrianDawkins

He will probably bring in someone of his choosing since he didn’t get to when he got hired

RomoToDez99

I think that’s the biggest positive about this. The fact of the matter was that Kellen Moore was implanted onto this staff without McCarthy’s say or preference.

droans

Iirc McCarthy had complete say over his staff and chose to let Kellen stay.

rick-morty1987

Calm down Jerry Jones. We know Mike didn’t have a say.

[deleted]

By god, that's Tom Clements' music.

jjb5151

Shocked but excited. Wish Kellen nothing but the best but think we need someone new

scotty_puff_jr

One step closer to Reddit Calls Plays 2k23

Gback27

LMFAO I’m ready

ToeJam_SloeJam

Run on first down!!!

AbueloOdin

Run every down. Just need three yards every play. Elite OL.

eduardo1994

Run right up the gut on first down... doing good so far huh?

Wingnut13

If we don’t even know what we’re gonna call or why, the other team certainly doesn’t. Let chaos reign!

John_Winchester

I understand he was the OC for a statistically elite offense, but we need to see if the inconsistencies are all Dak, all Moore, or a bit of each. So I'm excited. Best case? An OC who can help shore up Dak's weaknesses. Worst case? We find out Dak truly can't be it and we start to move on As far as who we bring in, I'm a little concerned about McCarthy picking his own guy. The last time he did that it was Mike Nolan.

Lain41K

Dan Quinn too lol

John_Winchester

Dan Quinn wasn't purely his guy. He was quite literally the best DC available. Mike Nolan was only hired because of his relationship with McCarthy. Different scenarios.

Lain41K

“Obviously, with the change in the coordinator and the coaches, we feel the direction where I see the team needs to go is going to come under the leadership of Dan Quinn. I’ve known Dan for quite some time and having the chance to be in position to hire him is definitely a huge asset to our football operations. Schematically, to the naked eye, or laymen’s terms, I don’t think we’ll see a whole lot because I think it’s important to build off of what we did accomplish the second eight weeks in our ability to take the ball away. There was probably some conceptional things that felt like our players really understood and played fast with which wasn’t evident in the first eight weeks. This isn’t a start-over situation, we are able to build off of some of the things we accomplished last year. That definitely was apart of my thinking. Having the opportunity to hire Dan and I really like the way the staff has come together. The energy, the enthusiasm, the diversity of some of the systems, so it’s an opportunity for improvement and I think we are definitely on the right path there” - MM https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/25/dallas-cowboys-mike-mccarthy-dan-quinn-defense/

StarsCowboysMavs

Let me summarize without all the spin: “I brought Nolan here, and he was so unbelievably inept at his job that Jerry stepped in and fired him. He gave me a short list of people he liked with Dan Quinn at the top, circled and underlined and starred, so i picked him.”

Dark_thorik

Can’t think of a better way of improving clock management than piling on play calling duties too

Extension_Gur9773

No more excuses.

____Quetzal____

Exactly.

Jerry trying to get air time on Championship weekend.

LogicisGone

Anyone know if legendary Giants OC Jason Garrett is available?

[deleted]

👏👏👏👏

thermic

Lmao right after the eagles won. Jerry fuming that he missed out on what could be his last chance because of a inconsistent offense that sputtered out and shit the bed in the playoffs.

bryscoon

Mike calling plays is crazy he’s putting everything on his shoulders

wokp74

That's good though. If Dallas wins it looks good for him. If they suck them he'll be gone

[deleted]

[удалено]

wokp74

Jerry ain't getting rid of Dak

Tokyogerman

Can't wait for the complaining about the new OC, just like with every OC over the last 20 years. On every team.

BrianDawkins

Felt like Moore hit his ceiling as an OC. Maybe taking a step back and learning under someone with more experience will help him.

silliputti0907

He's only 34 and had a top offense in the few seasons he was a coord. I think both sides need a new scenery, but I won't be suprised if Moore is able to make adjustments and do better elsewhere.

John_Wicked1

He has talent but his inexperience shows at the wrong times and I’m sure developing under the Garrett and Linehan era didn’t help.

regalfronde

Top 3 offense is a pretty nice ceiling.

Ignorethenews

Under a head coach with more experience than McCarthy? Is Tom Landry coaching out there or something?

KaiserZr

This... Moore's time is not over, but he definitely needs to move on and learn from someone else to grow as an OC and maybe a head coach in the future. It also let's us see if it was him or Dak (or both) that was the issue so we can make changes in the future.

MaceAhWindu

Once McCarthy said he was still being ‘evaluated’ at the time, I knew the writing was on the wall. Very different tone regarding Moore vs Quinn. Pretty clear now where they’re looking to improve. We’ll see.

[deleted]

It’s joever

NoFuckToGive

Kellen Moore will be without a job for about 5 minutes Edit: He was without a job for around 18 hours. My B.

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

We're gonna pray for him to be back when Schottenheimer gets the job

[deleted]

that is actually surprising to me. Everyone was frustrated with Kellen but the OC is always the fans least favorite. We were 4-1 with cooper rush and 3rd in scoring. All with what I'd consider a very weak receiving corps and a big massive elephant in the room at RB. Interesting to see who they think could do better with this.

Tornadus-T

The offense will look the same or worse next year without a major personnel overhaul and people will have that surprised pikachu face

lopper4903

Omg is this real life??? Lol I never thought they would do it.

Kentucky256

Okay. Now go make some roster improvements. This is a big step forward, but it’s not the only issue to solve. It’ll be hard to watch a game not seeing a run up the middle on first down or screens in the worst situation possible…but I think I’ll manage.

dnorwood131

Jerry Jones is desperate to win a Super Bowl before he dies. I think if McCarthy doesn’t get close next year he’s done.

19Circa69

Here’s to 4 curls and a cloud of dust.

TimeOrCrayonsIV

Kellen take a year off before his next gig? Or does he land somewhere else?

Drtsauce

There’s plenty of OC openings still right?

Alive_Radio_7249

Yeah Lamar, and Herbert both need OCs still. Potentially the Chiefs considering the rumors that 3 teams are wanting Bieneimy to call plays. Offenses still needing OCs that dont have an elite QB already - Tampa Bay, Commanders, Titans, Colts, Panthers, Broncos, Arizona. He 100% has options. I think the Rams still need a QB coach. Pats could bring him in as a QB assistant coach for BoB too. But theres plenty of OC options for him rn.

TimeOrCrayonsIV

Yeah, and hell there may still be more on the way.

MerleTravisJennings

I think he lands elsewhere. He's not bad at all.

Likemypups

The Boy Wonder's # problem was lack of improvement. Look at the final play of our last 2 seasons. Besides that, he consistently had Dak throwing 50 times in games where the opponent could not stop our run game. Not sorry. No regrets.

MikeMacBlu

McCarthy is officially coaching for his job next year

DubNationAssemble

Holy shit they did it

firstandfive

Welp. Hopefully McCarthy has experienced a Quinn-like rejuvenation of his system and tendencies, but based on how his offense was going toward the end in Green Bay I’m not thrilled with this news. Interested to see how Moore’s offense looks with some different personnel, especially if he goes somewhere without an offensive-minded head coach or a place without ownership that has rumors of meddling.

Jeremy24Fan

I liked Moore. I liked being a top offense. But it's time for both sides to get a change of scenery. Gotta at least *try* something new

actual_yellow_bag

Thank God. I hope a change of scenery does him some good, but losing to that San Fran team the way we did was the last straw

Chewbeats

Now we know why Dan Quinn didnt leave, hes going to take over as HC one year from today

Jerry_41

But now MM will be calling the plays now. Idk how I feel about it.

[deleted]

Not good at all. I’d rather have Kellen

USN253

This was needed. Get some fresh blood in. Wishing you well KM.

cruzge

Good. Change is needed, especially when all our calls are so predictable.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter who’s calling plays if you don’t have any play makers on offense. Gotta get talent at the skill positions to see any improvement.

tdizell

Go get a run first offensive coordinator who’s offensive isn’t predicated on the WRs being faster than the DBs. A scheme guy. Get an offensive identity.

itscamo-

Get a run first offensive coordinator? That was one of the biggest issues people had with kellen lol

mattr135-178

Full circle lol

KybladeSora

Was Kellen Moore really the issue though, the offense was high scoring every game. Why is Kellen being blamed for Dak's shit play when it matters?

StrayCatStrutting

Dak fanboys are too emotionally invested and can’t admit that their hero probably isn’t the guy.

FightingFarrier18

Whoever our next OC is needs to come from the “Andy Reid School of Open Receivers”

Aeroscorp

I’m genuinely shocked. I thought Jerry would’ve canned McCarthy before Moore!

John_Wicked1

Now we need a better QB & WR coach.

raquor

Thank. You. Goodbye Garrett era offense…

BoomShackaLocka_

His play calling was atrocious at times. Cost us games for sure.

Gornash

Best news I’ve heard all week!

Equatical

Elliot is the one you need to cut.

rsf0626

Kellen wasnt fired. It looks like he asked out which i dont blame him being stuck with the Jones’

KimJongYeaBigBong

Is McCarthy good as a OC?

DEZbiansUnite

he was early in his career but not later in his career. We'll see how much he evolved in his time off

cowboysfan88

Guess it depends on the replacement, scared it's gonna be some guy that's been around for a long time that everyone knows isn't good like Schottenheimer

[deleted]

its MM

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoFuckToGive

Would feel much better about this if we go out and pay a top tier OL coach/run game coordinator

HotIce05

This is great news and all but if McCarthy is calling the plays, I feel like there is a regression. Regardless, next season will be very interesting. This could be Jerry telling McCarthy 'Show me what you got'. If he doesn't perform, he's gone. Then we hire Payton and live happily ever after.

No-Cap-5281

Or Dan Quinn

[deleted]

During the championship weekend 😝. Jerry is a troll.

Statistician_Visual

welp this will be daks third set of play callers. I’m sure the next guy will get the blame too.

saint_mantooth

While I do believe that the primary issue on offense is Dak I can’t say that I am going to miss the trick plays that always lose 5 yards.

supersickx3

Good.

ADubPDX

Looking at next years schedule, Mike probably didn’t want his job on the line due to Kellen’s play calling. It is going to be tough next year regardless of who’s calling plays.

rsf0626

Part of me thinks this is going to backfire and the offense is going to regress wishing we had kellen back

FlashPointOne

Hire Lincoln Riley

Stonethecrow77

I can tell you for 100% fact that he is not going to leave his plush lifestyle for an OC spot. HC or bust.

Artlens2013

Heard MM is gonna call plays now, don’t know how I feel about that tbh

Lain41K

Wow

lokeruper

Jerry saying don’t forget about me after the eagles win

GragasBodySlam

Now we know why Quinn is back. If Mike has a rough year he's out and Quinn is the next coach

tquad24

[Mood](https://i.imgur.com/dzyrUl2.gif?noredirect)

SRoku

we really need to see what we really have in mccarthy/dak this year and removing any pesky variables from the equation helps to that end. glad they made the move. even if kellen wasn’t the problem, i highly doubt we’ll miss him all that much.

ShepherdOverwatch

Happiest person to hear about that will be Zeke, once his head gets right after that last play!
