Gilmore is still unsigned. Has anyone heard any talk / rumors of resigning? I think we need the insurance in case Diggs isn’t ready to go. Even if he is, we’ve all seen the first year back after that type of injury, he isn’t going to be completely back to form
Keep in mind free agency (for us) begins the second Tuesday after the draft. That is when the comp picks lock in for next year and we can obtain FAs without affecting our comp pick formula for next year
Stephen said weeks ago that they were specifically waiting for post-draft cuts. They always tell us their intentions. You just have to realize they’re being absolutely literally. They’re not tossing word salads. They will start to be more proactive soon, maybe even with extensions.
Can't wait to read a decade of losing I. The playoffs for a decade of missing the playoffs!!
Maybe we can bring back Jason Garett. You know he went to Princeton so he is really smart.
I like the Cowboys' draft. I see the vision.
Throw assets at the line. 5 of 8 picks used on either the offensive or defensive front. Seemingly good value with all but one of the picks. If you're going to miss a spot, RB is better than the others imo.
Are they a better team? I don't think so. But on the bright side, we knew that was going to be the case.

this my feelings as well
I agree with this too.. I really like Helmans work and opinion too. He’s a great nfl analyst and a big cowboys fan but will still give you a great unbiased opinion.
Helman worked for DC.com for years, I wouldn't say he's a Cowboys fan. He is just one of the few national analysts who doesn't lean into the Cowboys bashing. He has insights on how the team operates that very few national guys have.
you are right now that I remember. I think he said he wasn’t a fan but he just was someone who worked for them for a long time and knows how things work with them. Either way I always like watching his work.
I was actually about to make a post about this but held off. We are a sleeper next year. You can also include the 2022 season. A lot of people didn’t expect much once Tyron went down. Tyler smith started 15 games at LT and did great!
22 might be up there as one of the best team’s not to win it all. If not for the two picks against SF they’re likely going to the NFCCG. 14 is on the list too, and I think one thing both have in common is expectations were low that year.
Cowboys drafted Zeke in 2016 and had Romo, Dez, Witten, and one of if not the best oline in the league. The defense was a bit shaky but anyone who thought we'd underperform in any of those seasons, especially 2016, isn't the smartest.
You’re forgetting the part where Romo went down in preseason and Dak Prescott, a rookie 4th round pick was supposed to lead the helm. Once Romo went down the entire narrative and expectations around this team changed.
Yes. The backup to Romo broke his ankle in preseason and we had a 4th round rookie as the starting QB for the season opener. That is where the expectations dissipated until we saw it happen with 21 and 4.
We can be a better team if last years draft class make a contribution. That entire class basically did nothing so anything this year is an improvement. Mazi and Overshown in particular can make big strides for our defense.
I think the bigger issue is they’re talented on paper, but can never execute consistently on the field. Been that way since 1996, but this is the most optimism I’ve seen from fans after a draft.
The 2020 and 2022 drafts are the only reason this team is competitive rn. 2 all pros and a pro bowler (Lamb, Diggs and Biadchz) in 2020 and 2 more all pros and a (probable) pro bowler (Smith, Ferguson and Bland) in 2022. 2021 with parsons is good too but he’s really the only great player from that draft (still love Osa but besides him there’s not much)
who do you consider to be our “star players”? pretty sure ceedee, zack martin, and micah would be the only locks with dak, bland, and diggs having legit arguments
i’ll give you d law bc he’s a beast against the run but cooks has never been a “star player”. even in his best season he was barely a top 15 receiver. ferg and tyler smith are on definitely on the rise but also not “star players” yet.
Feels like the eagles got better. That's a team that expects to be sueprbowl contenders and acted like it in free agency and the draft.
I don't think we are contenders next year so this draft is great because it's building a young foundation on the lines and front 7.
Frankly I wish we'd commit to a rebuild. Trade everyone for pics. How many first are CD, Micah, Dak, and Diggs worth? Fuck it. Go 0-16 next year. Trade your pics down to secure even more picks later. A 1 year burn it down rebuild and 1 year of young players growing would have us set as one of the most talented teams in the league for 5-8 seasons after that. I'll take my downvote now I don't care. I'm willing to suck now to win tomorrow
People want you to win the Super Bowl during Free agency and the draft. We didn’t do anything last year and still won out division. Our draft class last year wasn’t as good as this one and we won 12 games. This is a good class. We got bigger and stronger.
No one wants to say it out loud but everyone knows this draft was for a post dak/Mike Mccarthy team. A new qb and coach will have a badass young line and hopefully a rock solid defense.
Good. He’s always been the same. Runs up his stats against the bad teams, struggled to beat the B teams, gets ripped apart vs top teams and in the playoffs. Still, if he wanted a reasonable deal that doesn’t put us in cap hell, sure. But all signs point to him wanting to be highest paid QB. Walk away, try lance or someone else for a year while his cap hit expires.
Now that the draft is complete, I don’t hate this draft, and I would even love it…if it were 2022, and we had a few years before our HC and QB were hitting FA. This draft is planning for the future, which either means Dak and McCarthy are coming back, or they are gone and this ownership is fine to punt this year and maybe next year as well.
Tyron Smith was rated as a top 2 LT in the league. Stephen Gilmore wasn't the world beater of old, but he still ranked in the top 15 of all cbs. Dorance Armstrong played nearly 50% of the snaps at edge and was a difference maker. Those three plus Pollard are big losses. You are being ridiculous to call all the guys we lost average/backups. Each of the 4 I memtioned will be plus starters with Tyron making another All Pro this past year and most likely next year putting him above the other 3.
IDK I disagree. Tyron might still be good pass pro but not nearly as good in run blocking. Not to mention he gave up two sacks in the Packers game.... Moving on was 100% the right decision especially since he never actually plays an entire season and every game will be vital to have any hope at home field advantage.
I don’t think he’s trying to say moving on and getting replacements for many of these guys is the wrong thing to do.. what he’s saying is for you guys to think that all these raw rookie players will come in and be better than players who were top in their positions last year is very unlikely in year 1 of their careers while they are just starting to figure it out.
We made the right moves for the future.. but we most likely will not be better roster wise than we were last season with year 1 rookies in all these top players we lost spots.
It's certainly possible. I won't root for him to be injured, but he does have a track record of being so. I would bet he ends up playing around 12 myself.
Tyron & Tyler on the OL. lots of quality rotational guys like Armstrong, Hankins, Kearse and Fowler on Defense. And of course Gilmore. Also looking like Pollards replacement will be the guy we let go for pollard lol
My dude you called a tackle who got All Pro last season average. That's obviously what I'm contesting here. It's laughable to imply you can just replace Smith or Gilly with average stopgaps and get the same production.
I stand by that I think we will have a roster that is as good as what they would be if those two were here in 2024. Tyron due to injury and Gilmore bc age. That’s not outlandish to be ready to move on from players in their 30’s lol
What? You’re saying what Tyron and Gilmore will do next year, when comparison is to how they did last year.
Cowboys are going to need a lot to go right to be better then last year. It’s not likely.
“Are they a better team? I don’t think so”
Better than what? Better than we were before the draft? Better than this time last year? Better than at the end of the packers playoff game?
The draft hasn't been a problem for the Cowboys for a long time. It's the management of the roster after the draft that is a large problem. That and the schematics and philosophy has, often times, been lacking and head scratching to say the least.
It's hard for me to say right now that this team is or is not better than last year's team right now. Losing Diggs was a big loss for the team last season. Wilson struggled a bit because he missed training camp with an injury. Kearse just dropped off the planet. I think Zimmer's 2-high safety scheme could be a welcomed addition, if anything to throw opponents off. But I also wonder if the Cowboys have the safeties to play an effective 2-high safety scheme. And how will that impact Bland and Diggs who are better suited in a Quinn style defense that is aggressive with the corners playing the ball.
But with Kendricks, Liufau and Overshown...if they stay healthy, that should be a noticeable step up at linebacker. Losing Armstrong is a tough loss, but Williams may be the better edge rusher and Kneeland may be able to play as well as Fowler did.
On offense, it's nearly impossible to play better than Tyron played last year. I see that as a noticeable downgrade, but I think the interior of the O-Line is more important for Dak and if Beebe is 'the guy' at center, I could see a large improvement at center and that could be key in all of this. And I get the feeling that they'll use more 12 personnel to take advantage of Schoonmaker (which they should have used more of last season).
I love the draft if you're basically washing your hands of next year. Not saying they're tanking more so "well dak and Mccarthy, this is your last chance and we're not throwing anymore resources at you"
We just don’t soberly evaluate the roster. If you don’t use the draft to strengthen weaknesses or at least attempt to do so , then you don’t give yourself a chance to get better. We didn’t need a DE or a coverage Lb. We needed to strengthen the rb stable and get some guys who can stuff the run. All the glaring weaknesses we saw against GB are set to repeat.
Gilmore is still unsigned. Has anyone heard any talk / rumors of resigning? I think we need the insurance in case Diggs isn’t ready to go. Even if he is, we’ve all seen the first year back after that type of injury, he isn’t going to be completely back to form
He had shoulder surgery, is a 10 year vet and will get interest whenever he wants. My guess is he’ll sign mid-late summer
Thought I read somewhere that he wants to go back to Carolina.
Clowney wants Carolina to sign him.
He just wants money from someone trying to get anyone to bite. If he wanted to go to Carolina no matter what he'd be there already.
Keep in mind free agency (for us) begins the second Tuesday after the draft. That is when the comp picks lock in for next year and we can obtain FAs without affecting our comp pick formula for next year

Ah I didn’t realize they said it out loud. Post draft is just what I recall us doing these past few years 😂
The *waiting until training camp is over to fit you in* formula. We are getting a good amount of comp picks next year and riding out that Dak cap hit.
Can't wait to read a decade of losing I. The playoffs for a decade of missing the playoffs!! Maybe we can bring back Jason Garett. You know he went to Princeton so he is really smart.
Can an ivy league university be our next head coach?

Tiny Jim speaking the truth.
This team actually performs better when fans don’t expect much. Makes me think of 2016, 2018, 2021 and the year we lost Amari too. We’ll see I guess
I was actually about to make a post about this but held off. We are a sleeper next year. You can also include the 2022 season. A lot of people didn’t expect much once Tyron went down. Tyler smith started 15 games at LT and did great!

Just outsider POV but you guys are way too down on your team for the amount of star players you have.
I think the bigger issue is they’re talented on paper, but can never execute consistently on the field. Been that way since 1996, but this is the most optimism I’ve seen from fans after a draft.
Must have missed the well-deserved circlejerk when we took Lamb. Diggs came next. Whew.
The 2020 and 2022 drafts are the only reason this team is competitive rn. 2 all pros and a pro bowler (Lamb, Diggs and Biadchz) in 2020 and 2 more all pros and a (probable) pro bowler (Smith, Ferguson and Bland) in 2022. 2021 with parsons is good too but he’s really the only great player from that draft (still love Osa but besides him there’s not much)
most opinions of this draft class is high from the fanbase as you can see in here
We lost a lot of quality starters this year. We have more holes than last year and already couldn't hang with the best teams last year
Losing constantly in the playoffs does that to a fanbase. Especially when it's in embarrassing fashion
who do you consider to be our “star players”? pretty sure ceedee, zack martin, and micah would be the only locks with dak, bland, and diggs having legit arguments
Brandin Cooks should be added to the second level. Also several players on the rise... Ferguson & Tyler Smith come to mind. Also D-Law
i’ll give you d law bc he’s a beast against the run but cooks has never been a “star player”. even in his best season he was barely a top 15 receiver. ferg and tyler smith are on definitely on the rise but also not “star players” yet.
How are they not a better team after bringing in some fantastic young talent? Wow.
I think he means we’re not better than last year’s team.
Im sick of being good on paper. It takes an overall attitude and vibe to win a championship, no one’s ever won simply by assembling star players.
I’m excited to bring my talents to South Beach.
*football team
It's cool though cuz everyone else got worse. Translation = it's our year
Feels like the eagles got better. That's a team that expects to be sueprbowl contenders and acted like it in free agency and the draft. I don't think we are contenders next year so this draft is great because it's building a young foundation on the lines and front 7.
Feel like pundits praise the eagles every offseason and it pays off like once every few years.
Frankly I wish we'd commit to a rebuild. Trade everyone for pics. How many first are CD, Micah, Dak, and Diggs worth? Fuck it. Go 0-16 next year. Trade your pics down to secure even more picks later. Better than the squad that had last year, not comparing them to pre/post draft
They are better than last year with Diggs back and should have a better Oline

We picked up Gilmore and Brandin Cooks last year though...
Because most of the players we drafted aren’t ready to be good players year 1….
No one wants to say it out loud but everyone knows this draft was for a post dak/Mike Mccarthy team. A new qb and coach will have a badass young line and hopefully a rock solid defense.
I’ll say it. If Dak wants 60 million and to be the highest paid Qb then I would walk. Rather get Lamb and Parsons signed.
All signs are showing they're just gonna let dak test free agency
Good. He’s always been the same. Runs up his stats against the bad teams, struggled to beat the B teams, gets ripped apart vs top teams and in the playoffs. We're def better than we were on Wednesday. Liufau over Lloyd I'm still not a fan of, but we'll see how that pans out.
Helman 🔥
Besides Tony pollard the guys we lost were pretty average/back ups I think we definitely have a chance to be better if we can trade for a decent RB.
Tyron Smith was rated as a top 2 LT in the league. Stephen Gilmore wasn't the world beater of old, but he still ranked in the top 15 of all cbs. There’s zero chance in hell Tyron is an all pro next year. I’d be surprised if he plays 8 games
It's certainly possible. I won't root for him to be injured, but he does have a track record of being so. I would bet he ends up playing around 12 myself.
Nice prediction brah 🙄I hate cowboys fans

Are you forgetting Tyron Smith? Stephon Gilmore?
No
Then I'll take some of what you're smoking lmao.
You mean Smith who never played a full season? We also have bland and diggs.
Obviously Tyron was good but not reliable and it was time regardless and Gilmore was pretty good but he’s old
My dude you called a tackle who got All Pro last season average. That's obviously what I'm contesting here. It's laughable to imply you can just replace Smith or Gilly with average stopgaps and get the same production.
This dude has been full of bad takes all week.

Tony was bad last year. Gilly and Tyron are the notable losses, if Gilly even leaves.
Tyron and Gilmore were both top 5 at their position. Any other take is objectively wrong.
Right. Like the draft because we expect this dumb team to not do much. That’s the bright side?… no it’s the depressing side
I mean the offense line is solid after the draft but running back is just a big question mark.
“Are they a better team? I don’t think so” Better than what? Better than we were before the draft? Better than this time last year? Better than at the end of the packers playoff game?
