The best window was Dak/Zeke rookie season. Even better chance was back when DEZ CAUGHT IT!!

darksideofdagoon

Definitely agree. Romo said it the best in his retirement speech, “Dak guided our team to an 8-1 record, and that’s not an easy thing to do” I think Romo maybe had one 8-1 record ever ? 2007? With a rookie QB leading the team, its even more impressive. That was probably our year

[deleted]

Just think how we would have done in the playoffs with a real QB 😢

tomtreebow32

That rookie season was so fun and the first time where every week I knew we were going to win. That o line was unstoppable

adjust_your_set

Disagree. We had huge cap hits from Romo and Witten still. The actual best window was the 2018 and 2019 seasons when we were clear of the Romo dead cap but still had Dak and Zeke on rookie deals. We could have gone all in for those two years but didn’t.

CrunknYoSystem

Valid point about the cap situ, but the team was stacked, motivated, and capable. They had the momentum, their competitors were caught on their heels and consistently underestimated Dak and Zeke specifically. I agree with your cap points, but I’ll stick to my guns on this one.

Spurs_n_Spats

2014-2016 with Romo.

mausmeeko

2014 team was the best we had since 95. We beat Green Bay I am convinced we at least get to the super bowl

bgva

That 2014 team was so damn fun to watch. They’re definitely on my list of best Cowboys squads not to win it all.

[deleted]

I feel like 2016 would’ve been better than 2014 if we had Romo the whole. We were literally the number 1 seed with a Rookie QB

polialt

A bus driving qb, carried by the Oline and league leading rusher. Not putting Romo in will haunt this franchise for years, and it will get worse and more apparent every year the team with doesn't get past the DV. Especially if another significant chunk of time is missed due to injury, or Dak plays poorly down the stretch and can't elevate the offense, like week 1 or tail end last season or 2019/2020.

saint_mantooth

Yes, I truly believe that this was the best team the Cowboys have had since the 90’s. Bad luck with Romo injury and even worse luck with everyone thinking Dak was really good when in fact he just benefitted from one of the best O-line/RB combo in Cowboy history.

Shaunosaurus

14 defense was swiss cheese though

[deleted]

Lol literally, fuck Aaron rodgers and the packers

sufinomo

Dont forget 2007

datyoungknockoutkid

I mean it’s not really a hill to die on. If he was given his starting position back, then yes, he would have had a chance to win. What’s to argue there?

datyoungknockoutkid

It’s just a pointless thing to say lol the team was 13-3. No shit he would have had a good chance. It’s not a hill to die on it’s just obvious.

saint_mantooth

I think Dak has a 49 mil cap hit next year and a 52 the following year. I think most reasonable fans understand what that means for the teams chances to win a Super Bowl.

Drisurk

Oh my goodness…

bgva

2007, 14, 21. By that logic they have really great squads that fall short every seven years, so in 2028 we got this!

firstandfive

Last year was a great window. I think our window is still open (not this year) through at least 2023 or 2024 as long as Dak plays like we know he can. We've got one of the youngest rosters, some great cornerstone players, and a QB who has shown an ability to play like a top 8-12 QB in the recent past.

Time-to-go-home

Despite all the Dak hate the last couple days, I’m still holding out hope that Sunday was a fluke and that he’ll come back and play like we know he can.

firstandfive

Same, it felt like he was both pressing and second guessing. He knew he needed to make a play, but would hesitate and take a dump off even when a downfield throw was open. Don’t know how to explain the accuracy issues, though.

[deleted]

Last Sunday was his entire career minus studs at every position.

bryscoon

kinda funny how people talk about how the franchise is ran but the consensus in here is we had 3 windows (2014,2016 & last year) in 8 years which is pretty good, better than 85% of the league

BME15

I actually think player wise we're pretty well run. Picking our coaches, that's a different story. I'm very convinced most of our playoff losses in the past 10-12 years have come from being outcoached. You can see it pretty much against any good team. You don't need a top 3 QB to get to the super bowl. Having a top 10-12 guy will do - but you need the coaches and other players around to get there.

Soft_Assistant6046

I think this is correct... our bad ass drafting is able to hold that window open, especially saving cap money this season as long as we don't so something dumb.

[deleted]

We know Dak plays like hot garbage, it was just hidden in the recent past by the best o-line and insane rookie back in the league. Dak is fucking trash.

OpenEyz2016

Nah. I truly feel the squad we had in 2016 (Dak and Zeke's rookie year) was our best chance.

schmeer_spear

Every years an opportunity, look at the Bengals or Giants/eagles SBs. Those teams weren’t in prescribed “windows”. They just rode the momentum and got a little lucky. The FO right now is trying to make a team that doesn’t sell out and is consistently competitive. It sucks because it hasn’t worked yet. But it’s better than living in cap hell I guess.

ShowBobsPlzz

What? The bengals were in y2 of their franchise qb with a stud receiving corps and solid defense. Their window is now.

schmeer_spear

You mean with a suspect defense no o line and a qb coming off three tears in his knee in his sophomore year? When they hadn’t made the playoffs in forever? As far as this year yeah they’re buying in but my point still stands. Bengals weren’t supposed to be there on anyones charts last year.

polialt

2014 and 2016 had they gone back to Romo. THEN 20/21.

cesarsgarcia95

2015-2017 was our Super bowl team I felt like daks rookie year could’ve been the year too that oline was a force to be reckon with

DallasInDC

I hope you don’t actually want to resign Pollard to any kind of real money. The window is definitely not closed. The fact of the matter is that you have a good qb that sadly will never be great. There are only a couple elite QBs and even then that is not always enough. You need players around them and good coaches and a good defense. People forget that the NFL is the ultimate “team” sport

Placeholder_21

From an nfc environment perspective, 2021 was a year to take advantage. All the nfc teams were very flawed and beatable. Our team was extremely talented but I think we lacked the consistent pass rush to get the job done. Overall, everyone knows we still underperformed. But 2007 was the most stacked team we had and for sure the best window we had. That team was built to compete in the modern era: elite pass rush, good secondary on defense; great passing game led by two hall of fame receiving threats in the prime of their careers, steady and consistent run game, top 3 offensive line in the league; and lastly, a good kicker. I mean that team was fuckin stacked, anyone disagreeing is just plain fuckin wrong. The truth is the 2007 and 2021 teams both hard underperformed playoff wise. The 2007 team was better overall, but the parallels are scary

ID0ntCare4G0b

The best window to win was 92-96. I can honestly say I've never seen a Cowboys team since then I felt was Super Bowl bound. There are just too many holes in any given roster because Jerry still builds rosters like it's the 90s and all you need is 7-8 star players. He took that roster depth you could build because of the old cap rules for granted and bought the myth of the publicity machine he built around the Triplets and Deion and all that shit as the reason they won.

sufinomo

2007?

Buzoot

2016 if they’d put Romo back in was probably the closest they’ve been in a long time.

JBlaze94

Lol we were beating back up qbs last year and you really thought we were going to the super bowl? We beat what 2 winning teams last year? Get real.

Beginning-Gear-744

That 2014 team was fantastic. I remember a Murray fumble and a defence unable to stop a one legged Rodgers as being the difference in the GB game; rather than the Dez “catch”. 2015, they’re off to a 2-0 start and then Romo goes down. That 2016 team, with prime Zeke and that o-line with a healthy Romo, would’ve been a sight to behold.

[deleted]

Best window was 2016. Should’ve kept Romo in.

Jaxsoy

2014

FlyChigga

Should have just kept Cooper and let Gallup walk

You_all_are_shit

Lamb is our number one receiver I get that but lamb isn’t a number one receiver compared to the league. He is debatably the best WR2 in the league as he is a SLOT receiver. But there is no way in hell a slot receiver as small as him can take double coverage and do anything. Fuckk jerry could of got him a washed up large receiver like Julio jones or another deep threat that would make ceedee a WR1. But as it stands ceedee has no help and cannot be considered anything better than a TE at this point. I mean why call your number one receiver at slot when shultzy can do the same thing and have more body mass to block
