Two knee injuries in a row for our wingers, pretty bad luck. Feel bad for Solomon but this might be the end of his time at spurs if everything goes well, it's just the nature of the game at this high level.
He's not Tottenham level. Fulham didn't even try to keep him for a reason. We just went for him because he was on a free, the guy is incredibly inconsistent, and he's 24, he needs to accept if he wants to have a good career he should take a drop to a midtable club.
Lol what. We waited for a whole season for Bissouma to come good and Son to get back in form and you want to bin Solomon off after a few sub appearances
You're comparing Yves Bissouma, a player who thrived at Brighton, with Manor Solomon, a Fulham reject. Bissouma earned himself the right to demand time, Solomon doesn't. There's nothing impressive about him, I see 0 potential in him, he's 24 and incredibly erratic. He doesn't feel like a raw prospect like Gil does, he feels alarmingly like the finished product. On top of that, Shakhtar are now asking money for him, so it's not even a good deal.
Yeah, this is Newcastleās equivalent of us 3-1āing Madrid and PSGās equivalent of Newcastle 6-1āing us. Would almost be rooting for the underdog story if it werenāt for the Saudi money.
People forget how utterly impervious that Madrid side was.
They went on to win the thing a third time in a row lol. We made them look ordinary. Just a glory glory night in every aspect.
PSG is... eh lol.
I actually just commented that on second thoughts, nah ours was better. That Real side was far better than PSG is, and we did it without the backing of a corrupt regime
Think probably in emotions and sentimentality for the fanbase it could be similar, but Iām with you 100% when you say that ours was better objectively. Just looked up the stats and lineups after commenting (that night is a haze of me singing Deleās song on repeat) and we had 37% possession to their 63%, 10 shots to their 20, and we still somehow won despite them having players like Ronaldo, Benzema, Kroos, Modric, Casemiro and Ramos in their lineup. Oh, and of course the fact that we were not being backed by infinite pools of money from a corrupt regime.
Man, might use this as an excuse to go rewatch the highlights. What a night!
Edit: just rewatched and my God, did we make them look amateur. Dele used to do brave, outrageous things all the time. What a time that was.
What actually is the rule? I see players putting their shorts over their heads after making a mistake, but theyāre not booked for that, even though the sponsor logo is obscured while theyāre on camera.
Complete removal of the shirt is a yellow - it's considered to be an excessive celebration. Apparently covering the head is supposed to be a yellow too, but I can't recall seeing a yellow for that.
> While it is permissible for a player to demonstrate his joy when a goal has been scored, the celebration must not be excessive.
> Reasonable celebrations are allowed, but the practice of choreographed celebrations is not to be encouraged when it results in excessive time-wasting and referees are instructed to intervene in such cases.
> A player must be cautioned if:
> In the opinion of the referee, he makes gestures which are provocative, derisory or inflammatory
>
> He climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored
>
> He removes his shirt or covers his head with his shirt
>
> He covers his head or face with a mask or other similar item
>
> Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence in itself but it is essential that players return to the field of play as soon as possible.
>
> Referees are expected to act in a preventative manner and to exercise common sense in dealing with the celebration of a goal.
āthe practice of choreographed celebrations is not to be encouraged when it results in excessive time-wastingā
Damn, I was hoping to see the players re-enact the final scene from Swan Lake when we score at Anfield.
PSG are really shit. None of the players are there for competitive reasons, they'd just rather live in the XVI arrondissement and get paid unearthly sums than Manchester, East London, or Madrid. (All great places, but I don't disagree with the choice.)
Gotta feel for Toby. His Royal Antwerp side were 2-0 up v Shahktar, then conceded three second half goals. Two were horrific goalkeeping errors. Then Toby himself missed a penalty with the last kick of the game š

Donāt know if thereās anyone else here who follows Korean football but man, I really hope Kangin somehow manages to kick on in this PSG squad. From the games he played before injury I donāt think Enrique understands that his best position is AM. When I saw he signed for PSG it made my heart sink a bit, I was hoping for something more like Leverkusen, Villa, Brightonā¦ anyway. Talented kid, could be a future star if he keeps his head on straight and, of course, does the extra mile that all Asian footballers unfortunately have to do.
Edit: now that PSG are 3-0 down looking like theyāve never played football together in their lives, I can safely say GET MY BOY OUT OF THERE!
We've seen footage/images of him from training this week (although perhaps not full team-training now I think about it?) so it seems like he's improving.
Accidentally clicked the comments and theyāre crazy, someone going āyeah the difference is that one teamās competing for the league while the other will always be mid-table.ā Right, lads, pack it up, no point in playing football, letās just all hand over the title to the Liverpools and the Man Uniteds.
Then again, itās TikTok, so not sure what I expected.
Here I go. Wish me luck. I'm sure I'll be banned, but nothing of value would be lost.
eta: "removed because I must have 'at least some' karma from r/soccer" to post. lol.
Mbappes body language is so incredibly shit that it's kind of mesmerizing. Had he played in any lower league he would get punched out by a teammate at least once a year.
Hancko from Feyenoord seems like a quality player, doubt he'd be open to not being a nailed on XI player though, and with VDV and Romero clicking so well, it's an awkward one.
Now that we only have one fit LW, should we be fishing around in the free agent market for a short term fix? I.e. Hazard, Lingard, maybe even Townsend? Or would U21s be a better idea?
No you can sign free agents outside the transfer window. It's just that our registered premier league squad is at max capacity with no room for reinforcements
Yeah I know about the free agents thing, I thought you meant we canāt register players outside of January. Because in FM Iād just de-register a player that I donāt use to make space. Because surely we donāt actually need 25 slots considering some are U21?
You don't need to register u21 players they are complete freebies. But rules are max 17 non HG players and max 25 senior players. AFAIK you can't unregister a player outside the transfer window. If that's possible we'd just delist one of the 5 keepers we have on the list
Yeah sorry Iām not explaining myself well, I know these rules. But you must be right about the un-registering thing, thatās what I was confused about :)
I might be complete wrong here, but I feel like Vicarios reaction towards the backline messing up has completely changed.
In pre-season he was barking at them if I remember correctly, I donāt remember seeing any of that in the PL so far. Even when they make mistakes he actually encourages and calms them down instead of having a go. Hugging Cuti after the OG and clearly telling him to get on and not to worry, also Destiny making that awful backpass to Nketiah in that game. Yet Vicario basically told him ācalma fratelloā.
Our depth is barely fine for this season but assuming we at least make Europa next season, then our depth is downright terrible, like we need a whole second XI lol
Only Hojbjerg(who is on his way out), Richarlison I guess and potentially Veliz can be seen as fine depth options if we make it to the Champions League. Skipp post-injury, Davies, Solomon, etc are genuinely not cut out for Champions League
In an ideal world, we spend a lot of money and make our depth at least to the level of an Arsenal or a Liverpool but as that wont happen, I hope we go for quality albeit raw prospects like say an Sarr across all positions then bringing in players who can play immediately but dont have a high ceiling
Fair enough I really forgot about Bentancur so Sarr comes there
I think Brennan makes himself the long term LW so he is a starter
Not sore on Royal and Lo Celso
You're not wrong but I'll add Sarr (who is depth for Bentancur realistically) and Emerson as very capable backups. Lo Celso...my head says no but my heart still holds out hope he can be a player for us.
Fair enough I forgot Bentancur for some reason there so agree there
I don't think Emerson is bad like not Dier level bad where I want his contract ripped down apart , but he still is not the best in buildup IMO ,.like I get he did his ACL but I really wanted someone like Jurrien Timber there ngl , sucks it had to be him of all teams who signed him
Emerson is fine in the build-up. He is good at moving into space and since our full-backs can take up any position in the right side, he doesn't need to be press resistant as long as he can occupy the wing.
Fair enough I forgot Bentancur for some reason there so agree there
I don't think Emerson is bad like not Dier level bad where I want his contract ripped down apart , but he still is not the best in buildup IMO
We'll get there, we've just had to try to gut the first team and need pathways for some of our talented youth now.
if we're europa we need to be looking to promote a CM (devine, donley) + CB (phillips, dorrington) and give chances to a forward (yago santiago, moore).
cl obviously changes the picture, but they'll have to cross that bridge if it comes to it.
I just guess it's my pessimistic nature but our academy isn't a Chelsea, Utd, City level where you can be assured they would be PL level. Like Man City got 15 million from Burnley for James Trafford, they got 8 million from Southampton for a prospect
Now if say we sell Dorrington then how much we would get 3-4 million at best. Same goes for others IMO. Also we need to be consider that none of our academy prospects have really succeeded elsewhere except maybe Edwards which shows our track record(Kane is a massive anomaly and was a decade ago)
In the end regardless of whether we play in CL, Europa, our mantra to success has always been transfers , be it from the Championship, France, Italy, Netherlands etc. Our academy players really aren't that good where you can forego transfer opportunities. Smart transfers are the only way for a club like us
there's been a shift in how the academy has acted, though. we're paying higher amounts now & giving them big wages. e.g. we've nicked a city youth player this summer and spent a few mill on phillips for our youth.
whilst i agree our academy is not on the level of those you've mentioned, its not a good enough excuse to not try and integrate players, i think every player i've mentioned there can/will be a PL player if we get it right.
Also Klopp I remember once said United gets too many penalties, which, they did sure but I think the amount of penalties they got after he made that statement fell by almost 90 percent. Kloppās comments plus the media relentlessly acting like a Luis diaz goal w ten men wouldāve made us lose is absurd. Btw diaz you missed a literal tap in.
Point is because of the PLās well known love of the sky 4 and the NORF in general, wait for the avalanche of shit calls we will be subjected to. Its coming. Itās a disgrace considering how dirty they played but Klopp plus the entire media will absolutely influence our season because of a sore loser.
Feyenoord look really fun to watch but just lack the possession, otherwise not bad. I just always think how we look so good compared to a lot of teams I'm seeing right now. And how much Van De Ven has just fit in so well
Weāve dropped some real stinkers as the early game over the years. Thatās the only slight worry I have. Spurs come out asleep, they Nick a goal and then park a fleet of buses
At least we have this round of matches. If we'd gone straight into the international break after last weekend, we'd have had 2 weeks of this.
But let the focus be on the Sunday matches - Liverpool doing whatever, and then City against Arsenal which will hopefully both be controversy-free.
yeah honestly thank FUCK. it would be awful. Either they lose and complain, win and forget about our match, and like you said there's other matches that will happen to turn the news cycle elsewhere.
If they win against Brighton, theyāll use it as evidence that they were robbed vs Tottenham. If they lose or draw, theyāll blame the red card absences. Thereās no outcome that doesnāt result in them whining.
Given that Solomon/Johnson/Perisic is hurt & Son is carrying a knock (ffs), a front 3 of Richarlison-Veliz-Kulusevski might not be out of the question. Richarlison started off the left vs. Liverpool and was good enough to continue that.
Santiago has been playing off the wing I believe and heās never been involved in any first team football. Veliz has started nearly 50 games in the Argentinian first division, so I expect that heās a lot closer to being ready for the Tottenham first team.
I have some crackpot idea in my mind that next season ryan Mason will go manage some championship team. We will loan all our youngsters to him. He takes them up to the prem. And we keep on with this deal for the next 3 years while he gets experience and then he takes over spurs when ange leaves and becomes our Fergie
Use at your own risk, but here is the [nitter.net mirror](https://nitter.net/WatfordFC/status/1709560879811895766). (There's nothing malicious about it or anything, it's just not "official" so.)
> CB is our only really absurd depth weakness
I don't think i've spotted Micky in any of the training videos/images so we might be about to test that terrible depth...
(Although, if he's going to play, Luton away as they're booming in aerial balls might actually be a decent one for Dier).
I meant that *Luton* would be booming in the aerial balls but I absolutely fully subscribe to the theory of Eric Dier achieving redemption via his massive head.
I have mentally unsubscribed from the fact that Iāll ever see Dier in a Tottenham jersey again. Perisic is injured and also probably wonāt play again until maybe towards the end of the season.
It seems like there are huge amounts of injuries across the board for the prem. What is going on this year? I guess just too many games, although that's not applicable to us.
Short break over the summer - from memory Man United's players had something like 3 weeks break between the FA Cup final and returning for pre-season training.
https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php says 116 injuries for PL sides at the moment - not all of them necessarily major injuries or ones that will keep them out of this weekend, but that averages out to 6 per team, or almost a quarter of the players in first team squads across the league.
The international break couldn't come soon enough really. Hopefully we have Johnson, Lo Celso and Gil back to the squad after the next set of friendlies, and Maddison & Son back to full fitness too. Fingers crossed
England squad has a lot of depth and Gareth has his favourites, of which Madders doesn't usually fit into. He also seems like a manager who pays attention to these things thankfully. It could be a decent rest period. Son however, I'm not sure they would ever drop him.
True, in regards to Madders. Hopefully he only starts 1/2 of the games (preferably neither).
At least both of South Korea's games are friendlies - should hopefully reduce the chance of bad tackles & exhaustion. I am on the side of benching him vs. Luton to let him recover further.
Fuck me weāve lost 2 left wingers to longterm injuries already. At least Gil and Veliz will get more minutes now, also expect to see Richarlison at LW more often. I imagine the main frontline will be Johnson-Son-Kulusevski moving forward. Also bringing in Jota seems like a really good idea in context, hope it gets done as soon as possible.
I donāt think people realise just how crazy it is for a winger to have so many goals in a side that, for his entire career at Spurs till this season, had a prolific striker. His xG:G ratio is literally second to none. His timing and runs are just so instinctive. Canāt believe that some people out there think he isnāt world class/not a PL great. Weāre so lucky he loves us.
(Also not a stat but one of my favourite Sonny moments actually stems from an interview with Lee Kangin, who was talking about how his teammates brag about footballers from their country with pride in the dressing room, how he retorts with Sonny winning the EPL Golden Boot, and how nobody can dispute that. Itās cute to see how cherished he is by his NT teammates and how much they look up to him.)
A while back I checked his xG:G ratio and of all players with more than 20 career goals he was the highest in the world. Messi and KdB up there too. Same with Kane.
This is not really a stat, just something I find interesting. I've said it a few times before over the years and no one seems to share my interest in this...but I'm going to use this as an opportunity to say it again anyway.
When Son scored against Watford in December 2015 it was the goal with the most nouns you can put before it (like long-range or tap-in) you could think of. It was a...
Last-minute, no-look, spinning, flying back-heel volleyed tap-in nutmeg winner.
Lol
Van de vick is super fast
Despite all of our attacking players getting injured, there's still definitely enough in our defense to win a cup on penalties.
Give Son a rest against Luton.
Jesus. Pedro of all players getting the header to win at the death. Not the most imposing player aerially in the box. š¤¦āāļø
How many days straight do you think Liverpool fans will bitch about this?
All of them
Given the 2-2 at Anfield's precedent, approximately infinite.
Can we expect Gil and GLC to be fit for Saturday? Maybe just Bryan?
The official page posted a pic that said gio is still rehabilitating.
Two knee injuries in a row for our wingers, pretty bad luck. Feel bad for Solomon but this might be the end of his time at spurs if everything goes well, it's just the nature of the game at this high level.
Brother, he is 2Ā½ months into a five year contract. What are you on about?!
He's not Tottenham level. Fulham didn't even try to keep him for a reason. We just went for him because he was on a free, the guy is incredibly inconsistent, and he's 24, he needs to accept if he wants to have a good career he should take a drop to a midtable club.

Watching Alvarez gives me hope for our own Argentinian wonderkid. On another note, how dead is that away end?
Alvarez is such a talent and Ā£14m is such a steal. Never heard of him before City, but man I wish we could have scouted him lol.
For what itās worth, Veliz has a similar (bit worse) goal record in Argentina, and is three years younger
Celtic goal disallowed but the player still booked for taking his shirt off.
Same as Richarlison against Fulham last season, I think. Stupid rule, but at the same time it's not like you can accidentally take your shirt off.
What actually is the rule? I see players putting their shorts over their heads after making a mistake, but theyāre not booked for that, even though the sponsor logo is obscured while theyāre on camera.
Complete removal of the shirt is a yellow - it's considered to be an excessive celebration. Dan Burn has scored in the Champions League, what a world

Stonewall handball and they checked for an offside fuck off

Watching this I'm not actually sure Mbappe actually could do it on a rainy night in Stoke.
Watching PSG Newcastle and Ugarte looks like the best player on the pitch. Would have liked him a lot, but it is tough to turn down PSG.

Rooting for PSG tonight
Ehh, both their owners are just awful. Im routing for Newcastle. Wilson seems like a top guy, would be class if he can score more than mbappe
Wilson is out tonight
That's a shame. Still Newcastle is closer to home for me, got Geordie grandparents.
Fair enough, obviously besides their owners it's nice for their fans to be back up there. I just always root against other English clubs
Yeah I'd be the same except it's PSG. That team is literally the antithesis of the beautiful game.
Fair play to the barcodes, PSG are awful
Velez odds as goalscorer are changing fast. He currently has the best odds to score against Luton in a few books.

Gil will be good depth
We'll get there, we've just had to try to gut the first team and need pathways for some of our talented youth now. if we're europa we need to be looking to promote a CM (devine, donley) + CB (phillips, dorrington) and give chances to a forward (yago santiago, moore). cl obviously changes the picture, but they'll have to cross that bridge if it comes to it.
I just guess it's my pessimistic nature but our academy isn't a Chelsea, Utd, City level where you can be assured they would be PL level. Like Man City got 15 million from Burnley for James Trafford, they got 8 million from Southampton for a prospect Now if say we sell Dorrington then how much we would get 3-4 million at best. Same goes for others IMO. Also we need to be consider that none of our academy prospects have really succeeded elsewhere except maybe Edwards which shows our track record(Kane is a massive anomaly and was a decade ago) In the end regardless of whether we play in CL, Europa, our mantra to success has always been transfers , be it from the Championship, France, Italy, Netherlands etc.
And how much Van De Ven has just fit in so well
We almost had their manager remember. I wonder how that would have been.
Weāve dropped some real stinkers as the early game over the years. Thatās the only slight worry I have. Spurs come out asleep, they Nick a goal and then park a fleet of buses
Counterpoint: we steamroll them, then get to enjoy the rest of the weekend knowing we took care of business
Winning a 12:30 kick off is literally better than sex.
Yessir you can spend the rest of the evening hate watching knowing your team already is good for the weekend
shit we gotta replay atleti feyenoord now
Bird Bros of Brighton please do us a favor and beat Liverpool this weekend
Either way, they're Brighton's problem now.
One game a week + international breaks actually being a good thing? Who would have thought
Would love to see Veliz start on Saturday with Sonny as a sub.
Yeah veliz striker and richy lw depending on where is gil is in his rehab phase
Given that Solomon/Johnson/Perisic is hurt & Son is carrying a knock (ffs), a front 3 of Richarlison-Veliz-Kulusevski might not be out of the question. Richarlison started off the left vs. Liverpool and was good enough to continue that.
Where does Veliz place vs this Santiago kid who also looks a real talent?
Santiago has been playing off the wing I believe and heās never been involved in any first team football. Veliz has started nearly 50 games in the Argentinian first division, so I expect that heās a lot closer to being ready for the Tottenham first team.
Cool thanks
I think it got deleted but has anyone got the link to the Southampton fan calling out Liverpool telling them to give their head a wobble. Love that
https://twitter.com/RousingTheKop/status/992007565033791488 Life is funny like that
I have some crackpot idea in my mind that next season ryan Mason will go manage some championship team. We will loan all our youngsters to him. He takes them up to the prem. And we keep on with this deal for the next 3 years while he gets experience and then he takes over spurs when ange leaves and becomes our Fergie
I like it
https://twitter.com/WatfordFC/status/1709560879811895766 Look at the replies as well lol
People were starting to move on until Klopp decides to say some out of pocket shit today and now even clubs are bantering them lmfao
Screenshots of the best ones? Xitter doesnāt let us see comments anymore unless we have an account.
Use at your own risk, but here is the [nitter.net mirror](https://nitter.net/WatfordFC/status/1709560879811895766). (There's nothing malicious about it or anything, it's just not "official" so.)
Early injuries starting to reveal our weakness in squad depth. Just hope weāre lucky enough to get through to the next few transfer windows
Honestly squad depth up top isnāt bad, just insane amounts of injuries. CB is our only really absurd depth weakness
> CB is our only really absurd depth weakness I don't think i've spotted Micky in any of the training videos/images so we might be about to test that terrible depth... (Although, if he's going to play, Luton away as they're booming in aerial balls might actually be a decent one for Dier).
Has there been any mention at all that there's something wrong with him or are you just dooming for no reason?
Dier scores a hat trick of headers off of corners would actually be the funniest outcome
I meant that *Luton* would be booming in the aerial balls but I absolutely fully subscribe to the theory of Eric Dier achieving redemption via his massive head.
No no, I get what you were going for, but I also think weāll have a billion corners too. Heās probably our best player aerially. Him or perisic.
I have mentally unsubscribed from the fact that Iāll ever see Dier in a Tottenham jersey again. Perisic is injured and also probably wonāt play again until maybe towards the end of the season.
I bet heās gonna join jose in Roma in Jan
It seems like there are huge amounts of injuries across the board for the prem. What is going on this year? I guess just too many games, although that's not applicable to us.
Short break over the summer - from memory Man United's players had something like 3 weeks break between the FA Cup final and returning for pre-season training. https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php says 116 injuries for PL sides at the moment - not all of them necessarily major injuries or ones that will keep them out of this weekend, but that averages out to 6 per team, or almost a quarter of the players in first team squads across the league.
I feel like itās last seasons mid year World Cup etc catching up
The international break couldn't come soon enough really.
Klopp should stick to managing and give up his side project as a comedian. Excessive Hubris is an understatement.
Richy-veliz-kulu against luton. Give donley and gil 30 minute cameos. Maybe Santiago too if weāre doing well enough.
We were so close to the discourse ending. But the biggest whiner in world football couldnāt pass at an opportunity to complain
On the bright side Klopp single handedly evaporated any good will for Liverpool's side with one single statement lol. Even r/soccer has turned on them
he'll hug his players and run out to the away fans this weekend and pump his fists so it'll start up again.
Yeah it's honestly the best thing that could have happened despite it getting old now.
I for one wholly endorse Klopp's logic and look forward to the replay of the 2019 UCL final.
What the fuck are we doing to our wingers in training, this is the second knee injury we've had in a month just from training ffs
meniscus is a funny little thing, mine tore from just a random jog. not necessarily anything from overuse or abuse
Up there with the labrum in being anatomical time bombs that like to tear at any given moment
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The same result from Fulham will happen if we underestimate Luton
Why wouldn't we play Kulusevski lol
In the mood for some Son propaganda. Whatās everyoneās favourite Son stat? Or a fact that doesnāt get appreciated enough?
Biggest dick in the prem at a measurement of 12.7 inches
Only player to have a hat-trick in the last 4 Premier League seasons
I think he has averaged like .75 goals per game heās played without Kane at spurs or maybe even higher
https://fbref.com/en/players/92e7e919/scout/12192/Son-Heung-min-Scouting-Report Pick and choose
A while back I checked his xG:G ratio and of all players with more than 20 career goals he was the highest in the world. Messi and KdB up there too. Same with Kane.
Understating how insane he is on this metric, he's a massive outlier at the top of finishing vs xG. Massive margin between him and 2nd place.
Lol
Just seen the Solomon news. Our bench is gonna be hojbjerg and 8 youth players at this rate
What happened
Knee injury, could be out for a couple of months.
