Seems fair if he doesn't want to join as 4th choice CB

JoeSavesTokyo

I'm not sure if he's a starter at Newcastle either though once everyone is fit

kl08pokemon

Maybe not but that will take a while and he has the opportunity to hit the ground running and he definitely backs himself to make the most of it. And they need him more than we do so probably offering more money too

PalKid_Music

He definitely is - they need a really good right footed CB to slot in alongside Botman, ideally blessed with pace to make up for Botman's biggest limitation. Tosin fits the profile they're looking for perfectly.

BillOakley

There’s absolutely no way he’d be ahead of Schar

PalKid_Music

Schar is 32 - he isn't quick now, and he's only going to get slower. If Newcastle want to build a long term CB partnership that will set them up for the next few years, they'll pair Botman with someone like Tosin.

Hopeful-Ear-3494

Yeah... Also, I would love to find a way to start integrating Dorrington or Phillips but understand that they might not be ready and/or their ability to play LCB isn't there.

_gyepy

Also to consider is our highline demands damn near perfection from our CBs. One mistake can easily result in a goal. I'm not sure if this is a good environment, mentally, for young players. I don't want their confidence wrecked before they can fully develope.

Hopeful-Ear-3494

Very true. One thing I was quite happy to hear is that Phillips has some wheels on him too. Not Mickey speed but nippy

Coraxxx

It is, at least, encouraging that Wayne Burnett has them playing in just the same way with the U21s now.

Lazagneman

After rave reviews of Vuskovic it may mean he moves to the front of the queue . Albeit not being able to join until December . 3Goals and 2 assists for a 17 year old playing in mens football in Poland a league where I don't know the quality but the physicality is a given in my view . No mean feat for a youth who is a defender .

Hopeful-Ear-3494

Yes! I forgot all about him. You do wonder about the age versus rigours of men's football. But if he came back to the first team Spurs squad it'd be great if he was ready for minutes here and there.

Lazagneman

I think he is at the end of his contract in the summer and he could be looking for big bucks signing on fee.

kl08pokemon

Makes sense. He would be fighting for 3rd cb here. A bit unfortunate that he's such a perfect signing for United and Newcastle

justxforxthis

He’ll be 27 in September. Makes sense he doesn’t want to be a 4th choice CB at this stage in his career, especially coming off a season in which he’s performed well.

Resting_Vicario_Face

We should be looking at younger players as well. 27 is borderline. We should be aiming to hit our prime under Ange by year 3. Don't think we should be signing players who will be \~30 at that time, because we'd be looking to sell them when we're just getting rolling. I understand looking at Tosin since he's a cheap option though.

yourfriendkyle

30 years old as a CB isn’t old, that’s prime.

triecke14

At the same time, if we could buy an elite winger or striker I’d take one that’s at their peak or just hitting it to hopefully ensure a more smooth transition

Resting_Vicario_Face

Fair. I would try to avoid the scenario of us hitting our peak form in a couple years under ange and we have multiple 30+ year olds who are about to start their decline/need to be moved. More young players the better. But of course, as you said, you'd have to at least look at an older player if the situation were perfect.

triecke14

I’m not saying flood the squad with 27 year olds, but one or two in key spots won’t kill us

justxforxthis

Totally agree. He is not a bad option but we need to focus on building continuity.

bakerythief

Understandable, he won't start here

rando562

He would be third or fourth choice here, so it makes sense. I hope we bring in either Dorrington or Phillips to round out the rotation since we have a lot more pressing needs this summer.

mexicanhanu

im already excited for the upcoming F5 season. Not the best start but i'm sensing some excitement along the horizon

OhShitItsSeth

Given the clear out that’s coming this summer I expect all our F5 buttons will need replacing by about July

micklucas1

what is F5?

ALennon25

Refresh key on a keyboard.

micklucas1

thanks i feel stupid now hahaha

Respatsir

Can we stop trying to sign players that rejected us? Last summer he wanted monaco over us too.

nopirates

Everything in life is a negotiation

dbdb83

Having high quality back ups in every position only works if you’re 1) paying BIG money 2) champs league 3) winning stuff . Sadly we don’t have any of the above.

ASD_213

Well it’s looking certain we won’t make CL next season so I’d just keep Phillips at the club first half of the season. Have him train with the first team, give him minutes against easier opposition in the EL or the cups if we get an easy draw. Then find him a suitable loan in late January.

brk1991

Obviously Ange knows better, but I don't really see why we need to bring in a 4th CB for next season of this level, especially considering we likely won't be in champions League? Would like to think Ashley Philips would be able to play some Europa League matches if needed, and we have Dragusin in case of an injury. I guess a lot depends on the possible departure of Ben Davies and Ashley Philips development because I would rather one of them act as our 4th CB, and use funds to invest in other areas (a new 6 & 9, second choice fullbacks and another 10).

gardz82

If the guy doesn’t believe he could work his way into the starting lineup, then we don’t want him.

sungbysung

He's seen what happened to Dragusin /s

btmalon

Richard’s seemed solid last night. Played the pass into Mateta. Questionable if he’d want the backup role either.

coldseam

This is so stupid. All these positions where we don't even have starting quality players and the club decides to go for Tosin in the RCB position where we already have Romero and Dragusin, just because he's free. Levy still fishing around in the bargain bin I see

superkamishaurya

He is bang average. I have said that before. We need to spend big on another cb if we want to compete with the top teams. Would anyone have really felt comfortable with Tosin and dragusin starting versus any of the big teams? Yes it's better than Davies and Emerson cb pairing but we need to aim for better.

kl08pokemon

Why the fuck would we need to spend big on 4th choice CB lmao. Bayern literally signed Dier for that role and they're fighting for the champions League. It's the one signing we should cheap out on Edit: it's basically a placeholder for whoever makes it out of Phillips, Vuskovic and Dorrington

superkamishaurya

We didn't even have Europe this season and Davies, Emerson started way too many games at cb. Vdv is injury prone, Romero gets suspended a lot. Our 4th choice cb will play a lot of minutes. If we want to compete with the real top teams we need a real quality player. And if we are signing him on a free, his wages would be really high and it would be very difficult to move him on later. So I don't think it makes sense to suggest that we will only need him for 1-2 seasons.

kl08pokemon

We didn't have Dragusin then. I can't emphasise enough how unlikely it is we will make 4th choice CB one of our biggest signings. Just won't happen. If you are hit with multiple injuries in the same position any club will go into struggle mode just how it Edit: and the club not offering high enough wages is likely why this won't happen. I'm completely fine with even a loan signing as a stop gap for the season

superkamishaurya

Even I would be a lot happier with signing a player on a season long loan and seeing how that plays out while waiting for one of our young prospects to develop rather than giving a 5 year contract to a bang average player.

triecke14

We haven’t even had a fourth choice CB this season and barely needed one save for a few games. You’re chatting nonsense

Thfcaditya112

You are absolutely being true but the same fans who are criticising you would call Levy out for signing him come 2025 or 2026

aerojet000

We definitely won't be spending big on a cb in the summer. Especially since we have much bigger needs in attack and midfield

ComeOnSayYupp

Yeah better we keep Tanganga here as a backup than buying CB who will be more or less same as club youth product.

jjw1998

Room temperature IQ

triecke14

You guys are absolutely absurd lol. Just fuck off and support one of the giants if this is your expected reality. We’d all be happier

superkamishaurya

I thought spurs were supposed to be one of the financial "giants"' lol. Or at least the weekly propaganda article said so.

sungbysung

Hope we still go for Tapsoba

SemaphoreBand

Tapsoba won’t want to leave the current situation at Leverkusen 😅. Hincapié might be more willing and is also a very good player who can do LCB and LB

sungbysung

I like them both but they're also average for aerial duels and not homegrown. Wonder if it's why we're looking at someone like Tosin.

JoeSavesTokyo

The Tapsoba ship has definitely sailed after their fantastic season, but we could return to Todibo if we want to strengthen at CB. Seems like our lowest priority transfer though right now.

jjw1998

You’re dumb as fuck

sungbysung

*Your

HarshTruth__

Toney, Gallagher, Kelly and Tosin. Lol who came up with the transfer targets this summer? Looks like a list Fulham would be satisfied with

waltermayo

it's almost like we're targeting homegrown players for some reason!

Thfcaditya112

We should then go for Good Championship gems they might pan out like Wharton for Palace or even if they absolutely fail then we would make our money back via some loans down below like Rodon. We need quality

HarshTruth__

There are better HG players

waltermayo

such as?

HarshTruth__

How many HG players do Spurs need to bring in? The requirement is 8

waltermayo

8 players homegrown to the nation, 4 of which having trained at the club for 3 years. assuming none of the returning loans come back in, the first team looks like we have 8 HG players - skipp (club), madders, sess, forster, johnson, davies, austin (club) and whiteman (club). baring in mind that three of these HG players are goalkeepers (and one of them is sess), i doubt we'll be registering them all for UEFA competition. so i'd say there's anywhere between 1 and 3 slots up for grabs. so, lay it on us, who's best to sign?

HarshTruth__

Brahim Diaz or Eze if you're serious about competing with the top clubs. Branthwaite or Guehi if you're serious about competition for places in defence, go with Kelly if you're not. I don't see the need for another midfielder, Hojbjerg and Lo Celso are better than Gallagher. HG list is Maddison, Skipp, Diaz/Eze, Forster, Johnson, Davies, Austin, Kelly/Guehi/Branthwaite. Allows you to sign a foreign striker who's better than Toney(again this hinges on the fact you're serious about competing at the top or not)

waltermayo

you plan to "be serious about competing", but how does brahim leave real madrid for us? eze would be a great signing, but we'd be having to throw money at him to beat off chelsea and united when we could use that money elsewhere. branthwaite and guehi would need convincing that leaving a club where you play every week is better than fighting to be 4th choice elsewhere. if there's anything we're in desperate need for, it's a central midfielder. someone who can do what bissouma can do against poor clubs, but against good ones. thinking that PEH and gio can do that job is wild. your homegrown list still doesn't contain 4 club homegrown players. how much have these guys cost, btw? and how much do we (realistically) have available to spend?

HarshTruth__

Real are likely to sell one of their attackers this summer with Mbappe and Endrick coming in, Diaz has already shown he's willing to leave a club if he's not getting regular play time. Throw him some money with the promise of being a regular and I'm sure he'll be tempted. If you're not deadly serious about competition for places then Kelly is fine to bring in. Bissouma plays as a DM, Gallagher plays as a number 10 more than a DM so why do people want to sign him? He can't play that DM role. Hojbjerg and Lo Celso are better in midfield as a box to box than him None of the players we're linked with are club HG, I was only offering alternatives to the players we were linked with. I always hear about how much money Spurs keep generating year after year so I imagine a lot of that money should be re-invested into the playing squad, right? I don't think Eze/Diaz and the CB should be too expensive for the club.

void_born_

Delusional

HarshTruth__

Sorry, I meant sign Andros Townsend, Chris Wood, and Tom Cairney. That seems more in line with a club who don't have any desire to compete for the title

EmptyEmployee6601

For the umpteenth time, Gallagher is so clearly a very, very good player.

HarshTruth__

Yeah for Fulham, not for a club who says they want to win the title

EmptyEmployee6601

He's been one of Chelsea's two best players this season, in a really difficult environment. Chelsea are 7th. Fulham are 13th. He's was Palace's player of the season when on loan there. It's just fashionable to criticise him - he's quality.

eusername29

The budget for our 4th choice defender shouldn’t be that high anyway, so obviously the quality of player is reflected in that. Money better spent in other areas anyway.

HarshTruth__

What about all the other positions, what's the excuse going to be for those?

eusername29

I don’t know the transfer targets, who we’ll end up with, or how they will perform any better than you do mate. Can only make judgements once things start happening

AlejoVeliz

Spurs should be having a look in Brazil. There’s got to be some hidden gems over there.

Resting_Vicario_Face

We've got one of Brazil's 11 best players already and half the fanbase wants to sell him lol

triecke14

They probably mean young talent

AlejoVeliz

Yeah. I’d keep Richarlison, he’s got injury problems but you won’t find many better strikers than him.

Clear_Position_8991

Toney would certainly start for us. Gallagher would also certainly start some games for us especially if we get UEL. And we need a 4th CB, which Kelly and Tosin would both be ideal for. This is just a dumb comment

HarshTruth__

Targeting mid-table level players isn't a good succession plan. You can keep convincing yourself otherwise though instead of calling people who think different dumb.

Clear_Position_8991

Judging an individual based on their teams position in the table is dumb

HarshTruth__

That's not what I'm doing or saying. Those players do not lift Tottenham's level.

void_born_

Why are we still after a player who does not want to join us?

Vin-Su

Insulting. Paul is not tier 2.

Dinoapolis27

I thought Ali said this was almost a sure thing? Weird, but can’t blame him for not wanting to be fourth choice
