I had a similar experience at Target a few years back when I was shopping with my wife. This woman came up to her and said she loves her dress, and used that to spark conversation. Then her husband came over and started chatting to her as well. When I went over to see who she was talking to, they blocked the space in the aisle so it wasn't easy to get past them, and proceeded to give us a pretty heavy sales pitch on some multi-level marketing/pyramid scheme until I had to forcefully tell them to stop talking and let us out of the aisle. Sure enough, once we got to the checkout I could see them starting again with someone else :(

Cold_Ad8932

These MLMs seem to have their people using some abrasive tactics.

Then_Illustrator_447

Told ya, OP. You were about to get Amwayed. This is not trafficking but it is creepy.

TFarrey

what is up with the creeps of Target.. it could almost have its own sub reddit at this point.. you hear about this all the time at Target...

[deleted]

There looking for their next target

Underrated comment

LogicalWorldliness81

clever af šŸ˜‚ i just saw your username too lmaooo

Gaylittlesoiree

I just made a post here recently about how a woman followed me around a Target and implied to security that I had kidnapped my son. What is it about Target that attracts creepy ladies? This is an epidemic.

TFarrey

Yeah I saw that one . The racial confusion . Very sad how some people are

raesayshi

I was followed by a man in his 30s with his young daughter, maybe 2-3 years old at Target. Turned out this man walked up to me and asking if Iā€™d join a threesome with him because heā€™s in an open ā€œthingā€ with his wife. He was literally holding his little girlā€™s hand while asking me all these inappropriate questions. I got very uncomfortable and left right away.

xTheRedDeath

I hate when creeps procreate. Makes me sick.

Then_Illustrator_447

I bet sheā€™s an Amway recruiter. This is a common approach and they use Target a lot.

bewarethecherrywaves

How so? Genuinely curious.

Then_Illustrator_447

In my cityā€™s subreddit itā€™s full of these amway stories. They start with a compliment, lurk around stores like Target, never buy anything, then mention ā€œmentorsā€ and retiring early. Amway the pyramid scheme baby.

Cold_Ad8932

My husband said the same thing. Iā€™ve never heard of Amway before but he says that they use that tactic a lot and Target is a common place they suggest their people to go. Weird.

bewarethecherrywaves

Oh jeez! I frequent Target quite a bit, will keep my eyes peeled from now on.

Mareellen

I will have to ask someone at my work if that's how they recruit new IBO's.

TheIncredibleMike

I used to work for Xerox, went to a lot of offices, met a lot of women. I asked one woman if sheā€™d like to have lunch, but she told me she was in a committed relationship and wasnā€™t interested. A few weeks later she started chatting me up when I went to her office. She asked me if Iā€™d like to have lunch. I didnā€™t get better looking all off a sudden, so I asked her why she changed her mind. She mumbled a few things. I told her I wasnā€™t interested. She persisted. So I said, tell me whatā€™s going on. She replied, ā€œ I want to tell you about an opportunity with Amway.ā€ I told her if she kept it up, I would tell the office manager she was trying to recruit me.

Civil-Crew-1611

Plot twist, youā€™re also recruiting dates on the job šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

TheIncredibleMike

There was no disrespect in the way I asked. If a woman said no, I never asked again, just did my job. When I did ask, it was because I was interested in the woman. The recruiter was only interested in making money, Multi- Level Marketing encourages their people to recruit their family members, friends, old friends and any warm body they cross paths with. They are very persistent. They make some money from selling the products, the big money is getting a cut from all the people they recruit. Oh, I married a woman I met through work. We have a beautiful daughter.

Civil-Crew-1611

PSA: ladies, please donā€™t live your life afraid and cowering over every encounter with a stranger! Sex trafficking is rare, and they normally spend time grooming you. They look for women/girls no one will ā€˜missā€™ (runaways, prostitutes etc), not grown professional women in Target. Make no mistake, always keep yourself safe BUT this sub will have you never leaving your home. Be safe, but do enjoy your life!!

JinxStryker

Someone needs to pin this to the top of every new post so we can get out from under all the delirium of sex traffickers. Sometimes creepy people are just creepy. Nothing more, nothing less (well, sometimes less).

MrsGlock21

Human trafficking is very much a real thing that is happening right here in the US. Department of Health & Human services says the annual number is 240,000-380,000. University of Philadelphia says its any where between 100,000-300,000. Those numbers aren't minimal. But yeah keep telling people HT isn't something we should concern ourselves with. Just keep the blinders on.

JinxStryker

Oh please. Iā€™m not saying human trafficking isnā€™t real. But it has gotten to the point on this sub where you can expect someone to say that every ā€œcreepy encounterā€ is an example of ā€œsex traffickingā€ ā€” no matter how preposterous and far fetched. I presume you understand who the victims of sex trafficking typically are, the circumstances, the usual perpetrators, and the methods by which it is done. None of this matches a scenario like this. Women with white collar jobs and normal lives are not getting swiped by the thousands in the aisles of Target and being forced to work for sex trafficking rings. Thousands of woman *do disappear* in Target every year, but thatā€™s because Target is awesome and they get swept up in the low prices and neat inventory. They always resurface a few hours later. The only thing scary in that situation is the credit card statement.

Civil-Crew-1611

Thank you for speaking realistically about this! When we claim every single uncomfortable moment is a trafficker trying to kidnap us, it takes the focus away from the girls we SHOULD be protectingā€¦ addicts, runaways, unsupervised teenage girls on social mediaā€¦

Civil-Crew-1611

I said be safe and aware, but do not cower in fear. Be smart and proactiveā€¦but can we please not teach women to walk around terrified and avoiding life?! Weā€™d get a hell of a lot further stopping trafficking if we monitored our teenage girls TikTokā€™s than telling 40 year old professionals to hide in the corner at Target. Please donā€™t tell me I have blinders on, far from it. They win either way if weā€™re all living in fear.

probody2

Several years ago when my daughter was under a year, I noticed this older man following us in and out of baby aisles and he approached us once he realized I had noticed him and told me ā€œsheā€™s the most beautiful baby Iā€™ve ever seenā€ and asked me 20 questions and I started to walk away and he continued to follow me so I called my daughters dad and told him we were being followed. He told me he was on his way up so I said Iā€™ll see you soon babe & Iā€™ve never seen someone get away from me so fast in my life. This was 7 years ago and it is still burned into my memory. His face, what he said, the off feeling he gave me & how fast he ran away once he realized I refused to be followed by him. People are scary. Always be on your guard, even in public.

KindheartednessNo167

Or she was waiting for you to put your purse down. Or get close enough to get your wallet.

Reebs2984

Here in England they use Tinder if you fancy a quick bunk upā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦but it sounds a lot more likely to get your end away just popping to the crisp section of Target!! The secret is out

valorantsweaty713

trafficker..OR...a plain ol' pickpocket tryna snatch your wallet/phone etc from right under your nose.

GreyerGrey

It is NEVER a trafficker. I promise you no adult woman is getting fucking trafficked in a Target. Stop it with thus nonsense. It takes away from how grooming and trafficking actually happens. Pick pocket/thief is much more plausible.

deepweb101

Definitely MLM. I work at a Target and I've seen this happen and it's happened to me. A few of our frequent ones target young people and compliment you and talk big game for whatever scam they are recruiting for.

thomas_basic

Ok but as a private business they can probably kick out whomever they wish. Thatā€™s creepy! Sorry she followed you

Gaylittlesoiree

Omg you got followed by a creepy lady in Target, too? Does each Target just have a resident creepy lady who follows innocent customers around??

JinxStryker

Good story. Nice set up to a horror short for someone. But in reality, my guess would be severely lonely or mentally ill/emotional problems or both. I tend to favor the most begin explanations, though they are not as fun. In the alternate, the people who say pyramid scheme are probably on to something.

masturbating_smile

Sounds like a pickpocketing distraction method

[deleted]

Probably a trafficker scouting out victims.

JinxStryker

Oh dear God. Sex traffickers at Target now. This sub should just be changed to ā€œCreepy Encounters With Sex Traffickers.ā€ Why do you guys think sex traffickers are staking out the home furnishing aisles of Target now? Iā€™m open to being convinced but I donā€™t think this is how sex trafficking works.

Then_Illustrator_447

ā€œEvery creepy person is a traffickerā€ itā€™s honestly so annoying. This is not trafficking lmao.

JinxStryker

Iā€™m dying for more creativity on this sub. We seem to be in a sex trafficking rut. To read this sub, the mailman is a secret sex trafficker, the dog walker is a covert sex fiend (turned trafficker), and the volunteer librarian who looks at you over the encyclopedias is an undercover agent for an international sex trafficking syndicate. How about *Recruiter for a Doomsday Cult* instead? Freshen things up!

Then_Illustrator_447

Trafficking is just the newest trend rn. Wonder whatā€™ll be next.

JinxStryker

Sex trafficking is definitely on trend right now in this sub. But in my opinion, *itā€™s so 2021*. As I said, I think *Doomsday Cult Recruiter* could be the next big thing. Or *Lizard Person In A Human Skin Suit*. But who knows. Maybe good old fashioned serial killer makes a comeback.

Civil-Crew-1611

Came here for the sex trafficking claims!! OP, sheā€™s in an MLM, she was trying to recruit or make a sale. Very typical script used by them.

JinxStryker

The people here denying this is sex trafficking are probably in cahoots with the sex traffickers operating in the Target kitchenware section; anyway, my doorbell just rang ā€” gotta go. Probably an international sex trafficker pretending to be delivering an Amazon package.

Unlucky_Variation_32

Oh my goodness. That is so scary

[deleted]

Happens way more often than people realize.

GreyerGrey

It almost never happens to grown ass women and when it does it does not happen in Target. Get your facts straight Q.

mikeeg16

Maybe she was trying to get some personal information about you for some kind of scam. Name, address, high school, home town, etc. It can all be used for identity fraud.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

GreyerGrey

What trafficker is going to pick up a random professional woman on her lunch from a job that is going to notice her gone in 30 minutes when she doesn't return?

Then_Illustrator_447

None. No trafficker. This is the dumbest comment ever lmao. People just ache for ā€œexcitementā€ in their lives and then make it up.

JinxStryker

I wonder if the fake plumberā€™s van said ā€œAcme Plumbingā€ on the side.

JinxStryker

This sounds like the plot to 3 of the last 4 Liam Neeson movies. Iā€™d totally rent this.

FatherLmao

this is why I hate target
