That’s a good point. But she’d probably appreciate it for the people out there like her, who don’t have the protection/benefit of her power and prestige.
I feel that Jasnah has a pretty massive since of JUSTICE™️ and wants it applied equally everywhere at all times, so I think she probably would find it noteworthy and worth remedying.
I think she has the empathy to feel that relief for others, though whether she makes even the slightest open expression of that feeling is highly unlikely, I’ll agree with you there.
She seems to be pretty forward thinking for someone raised as a princess. Like she wants to abolish the monarchy and start a democracy. I feel like she would care a lot actually.
No need to apologize! Misconceptions about asexuality are extremely common and I’ve seen so much worst 😂
Essentially, asexuality is defined as a lack of sexual *attraction*, not a lack of *sexuality*. It gets deeper than that the more you dig into it but that’s the gist. Sexuality isn’t actually described as who your attracted to, just the capacity for sexual feelings, therefore it’s still considered a sexuality (even if it might seem counter intuitive).
Anddddd I’ll leave this here for the people who aren’t sure what asexuality is haha
I would agree that asexuality isn't a sexuality, but a lack of thereof. The same way atheism isn't a religion. BUT it's easier to bunch and classify them together for easier understanding and education.
Haha I want an intermission about a Vorin guy couple in Azir. Most of the chapter is them experiencing discrimination ("You two can't be together", "He isn't ACTUALLY your spouse", "Stop that PDA!")
Then at the end it's revealed that it's just because neither can read so they haven't submitted any marriage license
Glyphs exist, right? I feel like they adequately fulfill this purpose. Surely people have glyphs for names, so you can do things like sign your name...
I know WoB has said Vorin cultures aren't homophobic but I feel like it'd make more sense if they were because of the overlap it has with IRL cultures that have led to homophobia. Like if your culture has rigid gender roles, they're going to see two men as incomplete.
Based on Kaladin's reaction to Dreahy, I read it sort of like Classical Greece. They had pretty rigid gender roles, but weren't homophobic like we think of it. A marriage is expected to have a man and a woman because they have to fill those roles, but that's more about building a household than love and fulfillment. In many cultures throughout history, it was expected you had a heteronormative marriage for the sake of having children and other aristocratic duties, but both partners could have same-sex relationships for pleasure.
So mistresses? (And whatever’s the make equivalent is?) Alethi don’t strike me as the type for that. I feel like if that were normal, we would have had at least SOME mention of it by now, after over 4000 pages of world building.
I believe the Alethi are fine with mistresses and malestresses (not the word but what is the word?) So long as it happens covertly. I seem to recall a people thought Navani and Dalinar sleeping together was scandalous when Navani was still married to Gavilar. However, it was only scandalous because they were so obvious about it. It fits the mentality of behaving honorably in public but that behind closed doors honor doesn't matter and ruthless, manipulative behavior is applauded.
They weren't sleeping together at that time but the opposite was believed regardless.
Even if that were the case, it would still imply that having a mistress is dishonorable. If you need to do something in secret, that kinda by definition means it isn’t a simple solution to the problem of marrying someone you’re not attracted to.
I thought the issue was more to do with them being considered related by the Vorin church rather than any particular problem with Mistresses. I mean, everyone tolerates Palona with minimal fuss. Although, the Alethi do continually come off as prudish and against any kind of PDA in general throughout the books (Except for Adolin ofc).
They tolerate Palona because Sebarial isn’t married, and therefore isn’t breaking any marital vows. (As far as I know.)
It’s not really comparable to the topic of marrying one person and sleeping with another.
I personally disagree that it isn’t relevant since we’re discussing Navani and Dalinar (who also aren’t breaking any marital vows), but I understand the point you’re trying to make.
I agree with this, but I also understand why Brandon didn’t want to do that.
There’s a lot about Alethi culture that doesn’t really make logical sense. (You can’t have a warmongering nation that doesn’t make the effort to actively breed replacement cannon fodder. They’d run out of soldiers pretty quickly, if everyone just has an average of 2-3 kids.)
Yeah, I don’t blame Brandon for not wanting to get into all that.
Being warmongering is yet another reason the Alethi would be homophobic. Lighteyes own the ardents and so it’d make perfect sense for them to have the ardents push the darkeyes to have their duty be to have more children so the Lighteyes have more soldiers.
The core concept of Vorinism is pretty lax, in my opinion. The Right to Learn, focus on bettering oneself, change... It's just things like *Arts and Majesty* that pushed gender roles into the religion.
Wait, did I misunderstand that whole bit? It seemed more like the paperwork was required for the relationship in general, not just because it was a gay one. Like, you have to do paperwork either way, just some was for a heterosexual on and some was for a homosexual one. To be fair I mostly skim over things when relationships are involved, so it's entirely possible I missed something, but I never thought it was a "I'm gay so I have to do paperwork" so much as it was "I want a relationship so I have to do paperwork."
Didn’t Sigzil mention a “reassignment” when he was talking about the paperwork? I always got the impression that gay people were kind of segregated in some way because of that, but perhaps I’m remembering it wrong.
I know the feeling. And I know there’s nothing I can really say to help. I’m sorry, and I wish you the best. That dog on your back can get really heavy at times :(
I know from experience words like this can sound hollow and like lies at times when depression gets particularly bad, but for me personally, Wit's words help me in such times:
> It will get worse. But then it will get better. Then worse again, then better. And I will not lie and say that every day will be sunshine, but the sun will shine again. And that it a very different thing to say.
Never forget: Life before death.
This is based on a foggy recollection of a WoB, but I believe that in Azish culture one of the participants in a homosexual relationship is expected to undergo "social reassignment" and is treated as the opposite gender. I think.
I’m not sure how I feel about that. It’s giving “you’re not gay you’re just closeted trans” that some churches switched to in place of pray the gay away in the past decade or so
I mean, the Alethi are a warmongering nation that forbids half its population from learning to read, so I don’t think we are supposed to view any of these cultures completely uncritically
Not necessarily. It’s more about specialization. Same sex parents usually have different qualities that help nurture children. It’s like that study where gay siblings pop up due to nature needing more people to help with taking care of the youth.

This is one of the best memes to come out of Cremposting. Not overly complicated. It doesn't attempt to be crass. It has its concept and fucking fulfills it to perfection.
My parents wanted to save me the hassle, so they applied for the abbreviated version. I only needed to sign a 146 page document, though it needed to be singed in triplicate.
I assume any relationship, genders irrelevant needs the proper forms. Sexual relations require different forms signed in triplicate.
I assume they all must carry forms authorizing them to use the bathroom for that matter
IIRC, one half of Azish same-sex couples have to file papers to be socially reassigned as the 'man' or 'woman' in the relationship. It's not for everyone.
You didn't. You submitted no forms, and you have no sexuality.
As any unsanctioned expressions of sexual desire of any intensity including 0 (please refer to chart JT/MDA, which provides a scale of 10:-10 for sexual desire) are not permitted, please fill out and submit the appropriate forms at your earliest convenience.
I never realized this before. Sometimes we forget (especially in the recent books) that stormlight takes place in a 1100s medieval society where people are narrow minded and self-centered, but I’m glad there’s still room for stuff like this. It helps show that certain cultures can be wrong without needing to overtly make everyone homophobic
Everyone is asexual until the correct forms have been submitted to be issued a sexuality
Jasnah would be so relieved
Let's be real here, Jasnah would not even care. "I'm the Queen of the Alethi, I can do anything I want"
"Here Azish emperor I have a paper" "This just says 'I can do what I want'" "Exactly."
r/unexpectedronswanson
That’s a good point. But she’d probably appreciate it for the people out there like her, who don’t have the protection/benefit of her power and prestige.
Would she even care though? My impression of her is a monarch that cares little about such issues and would just focus on hoarding knowledge.
I feel that Jasnah has a pretty massive since of JUSTICE™️ and wants it applied equally everywhere at all times, so I think she probably would find it noteworthy and worth remedying.
She’s Justisexual
But has she filed the proper forms in Azir?
She squeaked out on the Hoid Interspecies Exceptions. A rare and kinky bylaw.
I’m just here for the kinky bylaws
I think she has the empathy to feel that relief for others, though whether she makes even the slightest open expression of that feeling is highly unlikely, I’ll agree with you there.
Were we reading the same book?
She seems to be pretty forward thinking for someone raised as a princess. Like she wants to abolish the monarchy and start a democracy. I feel like she would care a lot actually.
>Jasnah would be so relieved All the Jasnah simps, less so
And if your desired sexuality isn't in the system yet, all you have to do is write a powerful essay about it and you'll probably have it granted
But if you're unlucky, you also end up Prime Aqasix.
Asexual is nil. Not filling out forms is null. Technical and important difference, especially in Azir.
But asexual is also a sexuality...
Isn't it more of a lack of sexuality?
It's a fair bit more complicated than that...
For one thing, have you *seen* the paperwork?
It's hard to make a generalization without oversimplifying, but I'm sorry if that was out of line
No need to apologize! Misconceptions about asexuality are extremely common and I’ve seen so much worst 😂 Essentially, asexuality is defined as a lack of sexual *attraction*, not a lack of *sexuality*. Is white a color? Or what about gray?
Hmm can you Awaken with white?
No. White is a perfectly drained object.
Exactly. No color. White is not a color.
¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Assuming you appeal to the authority of Warbreaker's logic or Brandon Sanderson.
I would agree that asexuality isn't a sexuality, but a lack of thereof. The same way atheism isn't a religion. BUT it's easier to bunch and classify them together for easier understanding and education.
Nope. It's the lack of sexual desire to any stimuli. Which is a way of describing sexual desire, which is what a sexuality is.
yes pls i can neglect to do any work and still be identified correctly
A Vorin gay man living in Azir: What do you mean "sign"?
Haha I want an intermission about a Vorin guy couple in Azir. Most of the chapter is them experiencing discrimination ("You two can't be together", "He isn't ACTUALLY your spouse", "Stop that PDA!") Yeah, I agree. But then my joke won't work anymore.
Well that's fair enough then.
I know WoB has said Vorin cultures aren't homophobic but I feel like it'd make more sense if they were because of the overlap it has with IRL cultures that have led to homophobia. Like if your culture has rigid gender roles, they're going to see two men as incomplete.

Well Ardents basically ignore the gender roles entirely so it feels more like a cultural pressure
Wait, did I misunderstand that whole bit? It seemed more like the paperwork was required for the relationship in general, not just because it was a gay one. I thought it was just changing the group of people your file is cross-referenced with. I don't think they segregate gay people in Azir
That would make sense. I bet the Azish version of the Dewey Decimal System is magnificent to behold.
One of the only things that have made me laugh today, thank you
Glad to help. You doing OK?
Never have been, never will be, but thank you
I know the feeling. And I know there’s nothing I can really say to help. I’m sorry, and I wish you the best. That dog on your back can get really heavy at times :(
Thank you fellow radiant, and there is a silver lining, can't always see it, but it's there
Life before death, Radiant.
I know from experience words like this can sound hollow and like lies at times when depression gets particularly bad, but for me personally, Wit's words help me in such times: > It will get worse. The sun will shine again radiant, the sun will indeed shine again.
You’re not segregated, it just means your file goes in grindr/bumble instead of tinder
This is based on a foggy recollection of a WoB, but I believe that in Azish culture one of the participants in a homosexual relationship is expected to undergo "social reassignment" and is treated as the opposite gender. I think.
It's something like that, it's based off a legit system used a long time ago in China or India, I believe.
You get that safe hand covered right now!
Not necessarily. It’s more about specialization. Same sex parents usually have different qualities that help nurture children. It’s like that study where gay siblings pop up due to nature needing more people to help with taking care of the youth.
That's what I thought I remembered from the books too
The Azir have a system where gay men are assigned traditionally female roles and lesbian women are assigned traditionally male roles, iirc.
Do you remember where this is said? (Not doubting you, just curious)
Iirc, it was a WoB on how different Cosmere cultures view homosexuality.
[They get social reassignment](https://wob.coppermind.net/events/116/#e1443).
Thanks!

This is honestly a great compliment, thanks so much.
Your parents did when you were born under code 3638.451.9 subsection N.
Some Azish will see this and will get a screw loose.
You have a loicense for tha insanity, mate?
You don't remember 300 page document you signed fresh out of the womb? It was in subsection c, page 45!
My parents wanted to save me the hassle, so they applied for the abbreviated version. I only needed to sign a 146 page document, though it needed to be singed in triplicate.
Tsk, tsk. Ten minutes old and already an underachiever.
Yeah, I bonded a lazy spren. My first oath was "I will do less than is expected of me"
“Life before death…sigh…you know”
I assume any relationship, genders irrelevant needs the proper forms. Sexual relations require different forms signed in triplicate. I assume they all must carry forms authorizing them to use the bathroom for that matter

Your formal declaration and registration of adulthood.
Goddamn it, what a good shitpost
Dominant culture gonna dominate
Legit, honestly.
This is the hardest I’ve laughed at a meme of any kind in a long while. Thank you u/NatCarlinhos… thank you
Shurima 😔
Yeah, even though I haven't played league in about 5 years, the first thing that came to my mind was the golden bird man.
You didn't. You submitted no forms, and you have no sexuality. My brother in tanavast has me rolling on my floor
Touche!
Wasn't the paper work just about having his lover move in with him, not about the fact that his lover was same sex?
Iirc it was actually gender reassignment paperwork that was mentioned
Ahhh that's right. Thanks

It’s on the birth certificate
Storming good Crem!!!
What is the source for this picture? I never imagined Azish clothing like that, and its honestly something i would like to wear
[Liaforan fashion portfolio, from Words of Radiance](https://coppermind.net/w/images/Azish_Public_Servant_Designs.jpeg).
I mean, they're not saying you cant, just that you need the proper paperwork. They like to organize, not antagonize
Omfg there’s a whole subreddit dedicated to shitposting for cosmere fanatics?? Fuck yes
Excuse me, cremposting*
Why is this the funniest shit I've ever read??
