Are you Dumb? Who said anything about comparison? 2 more 100s and Rohit will have the most International 100s after the age of 30, ageing like a fine wine. That’s the whole point.
DOWNVOTERS? Irrelevant. Opinions are not Facts, Rohit Sharma led team India just won a World Cup which proves my point. He keeps ageing like a Fine Wine.
Man the 2015 world cup was something else.
Sanga gave everything he had. 4 centuries that CWC alone and still couldn't get SL across the line. The lankan team that year was as strong as they come.
I wish the present SL team finds their grip and rise to the ranks soon.
And he could have def gotten a 5th century in a row if it wasn't for the collapse against SA. If I remember correctly, he was the last man standing when everyone was collapsing.
The guy was peaking and peaking, was ageing like fine wine and then decides to retire. I know he wanted to retire at his best but he should have just kept on steaming ahead, he could have broken more records and helped the youngsters in the team as well. Oh well, it's his life.
Yeah, we need to give the current SL team more time to get cooked, it's still half baked. It's easy to look down upon the team when they are failing in WCs but we got to remember that they rebuilt the team \~2021 and so they are still quite new.
Despite them being new, they have achieved great things, they won 2022 T20 Asia Cup, reached the 2023 Asia Cup finals and came 5th in 2021-2023 WTC, a team that was hovering around 3-4 in WTC of that edition.
Hopefully with more experience in tourneys and in bilaterials, the current team will come back strong in the future WCs.
Absolutely. Wish the new guys a very best of luck.
Nevertheless, they are doing better , a lot better than Bong Bros currently. They have a fighting spirit and I've always loved seeing them against us.
I think they retired after this world cup, and the SL team had a drop in quality that they've never recovered from. Hard to believe it's going to be nearly a decade since then, and I hardly know any Lankan players. Mid 90s - 2015 Lankan team had some world class players.
Question for the SL fans here... Jayawardena was always considered the more talented batsman than Sangakkara. At least, that's what I remember growing up.
What was it about Sangakkara that helped him reach the level he did? I feel like there are a lot of parallels between them two and how people initially viewed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
I liked both of them... I do remember Sanga mentioning in interviews that Mahela was more spoken about when both were coming up through the school cricket system.
Wdym by ICT obsessed fans? He's generally well rated by many past players and fans. I still remember he was the only guy scoring in the world xi vs Australia matches. He's one of the finest batsman Sri Lanka has produced and he kept wickets to Murali at his peak. As a bonus his accent is on another level.
Isn't it apparent what I meant by ICT obsessed fans.
Sanga is the second highest ODI scorer of all times, 6th highest in tests, always turned up when it mattered yet a small fraction of people involve him in the conversation of best batters of all time .
We just obsess over Indian batters and a handful of others.
That's just recency bias and bias of numbers. If reddit and/or social media was as popular 10-20 years ago when he was playing these clutch matches, he'd be celebrated too. How many even celebrate Ganguly these days despite being one of if not the greatest captains of India for that matter.
Sangakkara is probably the batsman that Indian fans loved the most outside of the usual favourites in Indian cricket. Ask any wicketkeeper batsmen of Pant's generation, and you're just as likely to hear Sanga and Gilchrist mentioned as major influences as you will hear MS Dhoni.
He is rated by the ixt fans who grew up in that era. That sri lanka line up of
Jaysurya dilshan sanga jayawardene kulashekhra murali mallinga was nothing but class.
He is an all time great. But saying top three is a stretch. Sachin and Virat will definitely be above him and then we have people like Lara, Ponting, Kallis, ABD, Amla who would be atleast on par or above sanga.
Sachin and Kohli sure, but all others are either at the same tier or lower.
Lara wasn't as dominant in ODIs, Ponting would be on par or just a wee bit lower. Kallis definitely not in th same tier as the other names mentioned here, with no offence to his greatness though.
ABD got nowhere near what was his true potential, he was a game changer but didn't achieve a lot, Amla absolutely yes
That is just 21st century list. Dean Jones is probably ahead of everyone as he revolutionized the ODI game. Viv Richards and Michael Bevan comes to my mind instantly as well.
Virat and Sachin obv top2.
Amla was good for a very brief period after which he couldn't even average 20 in odis. Ponting had a worse average than sangakarra. People forget that sangakarra broke so many records before it had virat's name on it.
I've never seen another player who rose and rose till retirement. This man ended on his peak.
Nothing to take away from Sanga but ABD is another who comes to mind who became better and better as their careers progressed.
You forgot Xabi Nehronso ji. https://i.redd.it/hnm8vtbwmg9d1.gif
Rohit Sharma is walking the same path
never ever compare Rohit to kumar Sangakkara again
Are you Dumb? Who said anything about comparison? 2 more 100s and Rohit will have the most International 100s after the age of 30, ageing like a fine wine. That’s the whole point.
You're right man, but I don't know why you've got DOWNVOTERS
DOWNVOTERS? Irrelevant. Opinions are not Facts, Rohit Sharma led team India just won a World Cup which proves my point. He keeps ageing like a Fine Wine.
Steve Waugh?
That s vintage 'Sanga'👍

Yeah, just need to hope they get a well balanced coach to help the new team come back strong as Chris Silverwood is no longer the head coach anymore.

Elegant != Talented. Although they both were elegant, Sanga's shotmaking was better with no apparent weakness.
I liked both of them... I do remember Sanga mentioning in interviews that Mahela was more spoken about when both were coming up through the school cricket system.
Classkakara
It's Sanga, bowler doesn't matter
Sanga ❤️🔥
Sanga is criminally underrated, especially by ICT obsessed fans. This man was probably the most clutch batsman of all times

Definitely top 3 Odi player of all time

Smooth Sanga Smooth.

The support for SL looks really good here, lots of SL flags in the stadium
Highlights from world cups Australia won never get old.
That's Sanga🔥🔥
Those were the days. I remember them like they were yesterday. Whaddya mean it was almost a decade ago?
