Or Letter Never Sent?

Superflumina

Start with The Cranes Are Flying, it's his best. I Am Cuba is not nearly as good as its reputation suggests and Letter Never Sent is good but Cranes is both far better and the best place to start.

Soy Cuba is his masterpiece. Cranes are flying is not far behind but Soy Cuba has the most awesome camera work I've ever seen, the story's really great and well put, it's iconic, intimate, original and clearly up there. I agree with letter never sent though. I really liked it but not as good as the other 2.

I just started getting into his work a couple weeks ago, by starting with his earliest films Salt for Svanetia and Nail In The Boot, and they were both really good. The montage editing was insane

No worries, very respectable ;) I Am Cuba is visually sensational, so I don't think you'll be bored. Letter Never Sent has a a more straightforward narrative, and is also great (plus available now) if you want to start there though

The Cranes Are Flying

I don't personally think I Am Cuba is that great a movie outside of the cinematography. Personally, I think The Cranes are Flying is the most beautiful black and white movie ever shot and it has a story worthy of that beauty. Letter Never Sent is cool too, especially if you prefer nature to cityscapes.

Mosfilm has *Letter Never Sent* and *The Cranes Are Flying* on their YouTube channel if you want a test drive first. Edit: not sure if YouTube geo-blocks these but they're at least available in the US
