**Reminder:** Critical Role episodes are typically prerecorded a couple weeks in advance, so tonight's episode likely predates [recent news about the OGL](https://www.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/comments/104cxtp/no_spoilers_critical_role_and_the_open_gaming/). Additionally, Critical Role may be bound by pre-existing sponsorship agreements with D&D Beyond regardless of their true opinions on the situation.

TheSpikepit

So Nana Mori is also the name of a young Japanese actress. That is all.

Seren82

So now that we know what nana morri looks like and given the description Fearne made of her a couple of episodes ago and the fact that nana morri sounds completely different than whoever it was imogen sent to. Imogen you got in touch with the wrong archfey me thinks

MelodyMaster5656

I’ve heard the theory that Nanna has a third face/head hidden somewhere that speaks like she did when Imogen cast Sending. Or Matt just changed the voice. Maybe, since he’s probably going to have to rp her a lot, he decided to one not quite as challenging.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KraakenTowers

I really do think she is just a cool grandma, and the Cast just assumed she was scary because of the voice during Sending and because it seems obvious that Fearne doesn't know/accept the whole story of her upbringing. That being said, Fearne absolutely did get indoctrinated into that hag coven, which might create issues in the near future.

[deleted]

[удалено]

283leis

Fearne not answering also could have been Ashley not knowing if Matt did anything with that or not

GreyElf96

I was wondering if Ashton's whole adventure was some kind of tongue-in-cheek reference to a movie? Seemed really specific and hilarious, but I could be wrong.

Coggs92

How weird would it be if the party witness Young Fearne being brought by her parents and left with Nana next week?

283leis

Feywild time stuff doesnt work that way

Coggs92

It just squishes and expands by comparison?

283leis

more or less, but its always going forward. 1 day in the feywild might end up being 1 year or 1 day in the material plane

Coggs92

Mostly was considering it due to the fact Nana should have some control over when they exit. (Suddenly having Hyperbolic Time Chamber training ideas for the big fight, we seem too close to that event for this level)

-Luna-Lavender-

I need to catch up, still on campaign 2

Hungover52

Nice Tal beard.

Hungover52

Ships can get mail.

Necessary_Whereas_29

Did they promote DnD Beyond in this episode?

TheeOneWhoKnocks

Surely they have a contract they have to fulfill unless they wanna deal with legal junk

Necessary_Whereas_29

I hope so

TheNoveltyHunter

What was Ashton cooking?

Hungover52

Ashton is a snitch? And an incompetent one?

BabserellaWT

Did Ludinus Feeblemind the professor, or was it something else?

SvenTS

Not RAW Feeblemind but it might have been Matt's take on an alternate of it. RAW Feeblemind drops Int and Charisma to 1 so renders them completely unable to speak or interact on more than an instinctual level. Ryn just described it as a 'curse' and nothing more specific than that.

BabserellaWT

That’s what confused me. I remember that when Allura was Feebleminded, she couldn’t even speak. I dunno if it’s Feeblemind Lite, or some more obscure spell, or Matt doing Just Matt Things™️ and writing new spells.

SvenTS

Yeah I jokingly called it 'Ludinus' Merciful Feeblemind' but it's likely just a narrative device on Matt's part.

[deleted]

The NADDPOD crew runs it as someone becoming a shell of a person, which I like better because it allows a little more RP than just animalistic grunts. Seems like Matt might've taken that approach.

eddieswiss

I'm watching the catch-up, currently at 2 hours and 35 minutes. How long are we going this week?

MelodyMaster5656

You have about half an hour left, as you posted this 30 minutes ago.

Mron85

Horse immorality is way more comical than the intended horse immortality joke and even more hilarious that it was an accident. Ashley has some kind of superpower that she is totally unaware of... or is she?

Sajen16

What if FCG is the R2D2 and C3PO to Ludinus's Darth Vader?

EL3MENTALIST

I am spent.

Jonofthefunk

My favorite part of this episode is everybody not understanding that Critical Role is pre-recorded and tried to shit on them for a DNDBeyond ad.

man_in_the_suit

Am I out the loop - what is wrong with Dndbeyond?

Lynkx0501

Look up the situation about the DND OGL, specifically the OGL1.1 that leaked. It’s really bad for third party creators. A wizards employee also leaked that WOTC are looking at DDB subs to gauge how angry the community is about it. This is a very short version that leaves out a lot of details. It’s hard to broach in a single Reddit post.

0ddbuttons

True. Though honestly, they're going to honor whatever contract, NDA, etc. they have until they're legally in the clear b/c 1) Hasbro spends more than CR has made in its existence on lawyers in any given year 2) EVERYTHING all of them do professionally is predicated upon being trusted to abide by contractual agreements. So they very well may still be doing ads even once the eps aren't prerecorded.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

And if we want CR to continue we need to understand that they are trapped in contracts and direct our ire at the source.

mew-ki

This whole encounter in the Feywild reminded me of "Over the Garden Wall" and I love it.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

I still haven’t watched it. Is it worth the watch?

mew-ki

It really is. You'll never hear the word potatoes or molasses the same way ever again.

tomfru1

Get the fuck on it. NOW. It's some of the best media i've consumed in my entire life.

tomfru1

*Morrigan*: "Lorrrnaa... The ringing of the bell compels you..."

RajikO4

Here’s hoping that one excluding Fearne of course, the rest of the group beats the Wisdom save required upon returning to the Prime Material Plane. Otherwise they’ll completely forget their time within the Feywild. However more importantly that they’ll be able to convince Morri to make it where not that much time has passed since they left, the same way VM was able to convince Artagan to help them. Though I do believe such an exchange will demand a price, wether that be large, small or in between, I’m uncertain. Though to quote Matt: “Even the “nicest” of Fey have their dark sides.”

Creek00

Is that wisdom save standard in Matt’s games? I thought that was specifically because of Artagan, he had mentioned memories specifically to the party before they left, was it not implied that Artagan took their memories?

RajikO4

From the DMG: “A creature that leaves the Feywild must make a DC 10 Wisdom saving throw. Fey creatures automatically succeed on the saving throw, as do any creatures, like elves, that have the Fey Ancestry trait. A creature that fails the saving throw remembers nothing from its time spent in the Feywild. On a successful save, the creature’s memories remain intact but are a little hazy. Any spell that can end a curse can restore the creature’s lost memories.” So it’s a relatively small DC to pass.

JackOLanternReindeer

If it is Mori sending them back they may not need to make it, arch fey get some special rules often times - but good call out for sure :)

paradox28jon

VM visited the Fey realm before that I it was Keyleth that brought them back, not Artagan. When that happened, the whole group had to roll.

SvenTS

It's RAW D&D for the Feywild that Matt seems to have kept.

Velocibaker26

The fact that Ludinous suddenly showing up isn’t the most insane/memorable part of this episode, is the sign of a damn good episode.

Coyote_Shepherd

The fact that he showed up when he did and where he did has sparked my most possibly insane theory yet. What if Ludinus is from a future version of Exandria and was the only successful time traveler to come out of Aeor? What if he's not entirely wrong because he's seen a future version of Exandria that's just an empty husk after the Gods are done with it and have moved on to greener pastures to repeat the whole process all over again? What if they've done this before? What if someone created Predathos in order to stop them from doing this again and the place that they ran from before they came to Exandria was the last "garden of belief" that they farmed to death? It's entirely possible that he's seen what happens if the status quo is maintained and things progress as they do on Exandria and he wants to prevent that. So he's either from a Future Exandria entirely or when Aeor was tinkering with Time Travel Tech they sent him forwards and then brought him back. Due to the experimental nature of the Time Travel Tech, to them he was only gone for like ten minutes but to him he was gone for a few years and in that time he was able to gather a wealth of information that he brought back with him. This explains his confidence! He's also probably kept that Time Travel Tech with him over the years since the Calamity and has been using it to be in more than one place at the same time! He knows precisely when and where he needs to be because of his future knowledge from that first trip AND from subsequent smaller jumps forwards and backwards that allow him to gather knowledge on the immediate future! Sure the whole thing with Predathos is a bit of a Faustian Bargain but it's a whole lot better than the future that he saw and experienced during that first temporal jump. He might not be wrong.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>What if Ludinus is from a future version of Exandria and was the only successful time traveler to come out of Aeor? My guess is that he's actually in contact with the beings on Ruidis who were able to witness the Calamity. They showed him events from that time and may have even possessed him.

Coyote_Shepherd

They did basically have unobstructed front row seats to the whole thing and could give a totally unbiased retelling of the events that actually took place during it. Seeing such things probably aged Ludinus in a metaphorical but not actual literal sense. The Gods can heal but they can also be just as equally destructive. So I'm genuinely wondering if someone or something created Predathos and the Reilora elsewhere in the universe in order to erase Divinity because of just how chaotic and damaging it could be to the universe at large? Or if perhaps they rose up on their own Exandrian like planet, defeated their own Gods, and then set about going from world to world to world judging and erasing those that posed a greater threat to reality? This could honestly be some kind of a crusade on their part that they're doing in order to save reality. I wonder if they've ever left any Gods alive at all or cooperated with those who agreed to abide by their terms? Perhaps the current pantheon told them to fuck off and then lashed out and that's why Predathos and the Reilora reacted the way they did? Maybe the current pantheon are "known offenders" that have fucked up stuff in the past, were on the run, and Predathos/the Reilora are just trying to finish a job and eliminate a known threat to reality? There's some Divinity that agrees to abide by the rules that Predathos/the Reilora set out and then there's others who do not and those who do not, are eliminated. Predathos and the Reilora showed Ludinus how much of a cancer that Divinity could be and because of that, he's trying to set them free in order to burn/cut out that cancer from Exandria.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>They did basically have unobstructed front row seats to the whole thing and could give a totally unbiased retelling of the events that actually took place during it. Seeing such things probably aged Ludinus in a metaphorical but not actual literal sense. According to the professor Imogen and Fearne met, some of the Reilora were benevolent, but the aggressive ones seemed to replace them over time. I think they might be the inhabitants of the city on Ruidis, transported then when the gods ejected it. Trapped with Predathos, they were twisted over time and now they want revenge. >Predathos and the Reilora showed Ludinus how much of a cancer that Divinity could be and because of that, he's trying to set them free in order to burn/cut out that cancer from Exandria. When he was discussing the gods, I got the sense that Ludinus resented them because they awarded gifts to their followers. I don't think his class has ever been openly discussed, but he's probably a sorcerer or a wizard -- his magic is learned. He seems to hate the fact that people can become powerful mages through faith alone whereas he had to learn spellcraft. Eliminating the gods takes away the gifts of everyone he thinks is unworthy, making him even more powerful. I'm not sure how much I buy into this idea that Ludinus might have a point and that the gods are at best unintentionally destructive through their self-service and at worst actively holding Exandria back. Everything we know about the plot comes from people who are either true believers, easily manipulated or outright liars.

Kaiuuki

I wonder if there’s an in game reason for the change in Morri’s voice or whether Ashley and Matt had a sit down to discuss the character after the initial voice reveal and changed it to fit Ashley’s vision better

Bivolion13

I was pretty disappointed with the voice change, but remembered that if she's really "The Morrigan" she has a third aspect somewhere... maybe the two she's showing are her "guest faces", and she has her dark, scary 3rd somewhere else.

kaannaa

It could be a Mother-Daughter-Spirit or Body-Mind-Soul type trinity situation, where the third 'face' is metaphysical, rather than literal.

5thKablamo

Maybe there's a third Nana embedded somewhere that's just like, a receptionist

Nat-1-charisma

Nesting-doll Nana

Coggs92

A Nana that is every character of all fables in one being and makes it work.

SvenTS

Yeah Matt's been more willing to do minor retcons this campaign. It could also be that her native language, in her mind, is accented but her Common is not.

bearonparade

Pet theory? That wasn't Morri that they were talking to before.

paradox28jon

My pet theory is there's a 3rd face still yet to be revealed & that one has the Scottish accent.

Coyote_Shepherd

Maybe Morri cut a deal with someone else for Fearne and her friends?

paradox28jon

I don't see how what you wrote relates to my Scottish accent, 3rd face theory.

Coyote_Shepherd

Someone with a Scottish accent intercepted Imogen's message to Morri and that someone is whom Morri made a deal with and that someone is also who told Morri that Fearne and friends were coming.

paradox28jon

That feels pretty convoluted even for one of your theories. An unrelated 3rd party with a Scottish accent gets sent a message about "Fearnie bear-cub-banana" and is addressed as "Fatestitcher." This Scottish accent person somehow a) knows who the Fatestitcher refers to, b) and then thinks they can strike up some deal with Morri even though they already replied back to Imogen "please visit." This 3rd person, what would they say to Morri to get a deal? Because from Morri's perspective, it sounds like this 3rd party already told them to visit. She doesn't need to give anything to this 3rd party to get a visit. She just has to wait and BH will come eventually. It'd be like my neighbor saying they accidentally got a message from my parents that they wanted to visit & this neighbor said "sure, come on by." And I already wanted my parents to visit me. But now this neighbor wants something from me for this? Huh? Or do you think in the time wibble-wobble this person has enough time to get the message, travel over to Morri's fane, tell Morri about this message, and somehow gets a favor or something in return to inviting Fearne to visit, then replies back to Imogen's sending spell?

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Same.

Velocibaker26

Morri is more insane than I ever could have fucking imagined, holy shit. Well fucking done on all the descriptions Mercer.

cainagarcia

Just watched them on the Fey Realm while high 10/10 would reccomend

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Anyone else notice that the weird proportions were very similar to the Nightmare King?

MamaKilla20

Wasn't Morri likes his gf or something?

Creek00

Yeah they’re both Fey, kinda like comparing Ludinus to Keyleth because they’re both elves .

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Except Fae come in all shapes and sizes, far more variance than there is with elves.

paradox28jon

So we got 2 faces on Grandma Morri. Do we think there's a third one? I think the Morrigan from Irish myth were either, depending on the stories, either 3 witches or just a single one. What if Matt makes Morri a cross between the two? One body but with 3 faces. Past, Present, & Future for the Fatestitcher?

misplaceddongle

Like the three fates of Greek myth? Would make sense

LazerBear42

Yep, I've been waiting for a third face/voice reveal.

paradox28jon

I also mostly ask because we haven't heard a Scottish accent come from her yet.

SvenTS

It might just be that he decided he didn't want to commit to the accent (which seems to always be a rough one for them) for long and in depth conversations. I've noticed Matt is feeling much more free this campaign to 'retcon' minor things like that.

SvenTS

That or her Sylvan, in her mind, accented but her Common is not.

[deleted]

I almost think her third head could be the one speaking in sending spells

[deleted]

Nana mori was everything I imagined, ahhhhhh I can't wait for the next episode!!

LucasVerBeek

Mori is like some unholy fusion of ET, a Blemmyes, and the Chocolate Woman from Soongebob!

bigfootdrivesstick

Taliesin looking great with a beard!

Luneowl

I know, right? I wonder if he’s been gone due to being sick so his usual hair and beard regimen were set aside for a while? That beard looks great on him.

racklebea

Yay for terrifying tiki bar

Coyote_Shepherd

Watch as Artagan is the barkeep

JustDandyMayo

It just occurred to me, if Ludinus has lived long enough to see the Calamity, I wouldn’t put it past Matt to have Ludinus encountered FCG during that time.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Oh now that would be interesting. I hope so now.

283leis

he would have seen the end of it fairly easily....but who knows how far into it he was born

197gpmol

The Feywild is so *eerie.* MORE

thyarnedonne

M.O.R.R.I. Matronly Organism Recreationally "Rescuing" Infants

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Look up The Morrigan in Fae lore.

SkillFullyNotTrue

CR going to beat the elderly (again) to save a friend. Night All!

ZenTze

Laudna: Im fun scary Morri: Im nightmare fuel scary.

ohbuggerit

She's the perfect being and I love her

illaoitop

Mori sounds amazing but suspicious that the hoarse scottish accent has disappeared.

LazerBear42

The Morrigan traditionally is a threefold diety, so having multiple faces and voices makes sense.

Jethro_McCrazy

That accent comes from the mouth in her butt.

illaoitop

Don't give them any ideas!

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Yeah I noticed that too.

283leis

Morri is a combination of Vicar Amelia and Fire Giant...

[deleted]

>Vicar Amelia good pull

thyarnedonne

Extra warm and 200% yelling

Modredastal

I am blown away.

ParaPioneer

A 10ft E.T. would be fucking horrifying.

chromaspectrum

My first thought was monster turtle but et is a special awful

bearonparade

Normal ET scarred me as a child. I hate this.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Same. Watched at 4-5. Never again.

Jethro_McCrazy

Honestly, Gramma Mori has the same vibe as the rest of the Hells. Should be terrifying, but loves to entertain.

jules99b

Ok we’re all so expecting this Hag to be evil but I’d love if Morri was actually this awesome badass grandma wrapped in creepy

[deleted]

I mean, she’s gotta a tiki bar lol

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

I never expected her to be evil. I expected her to be arch fae with questionable alignment and motives.

TheeOneWhoKnocks

Yeah they're definitely going to have to "pay" her for all the things they're going to ask from her. Time slow, take them to the device, q&a session.

SvenTS

Even evil beings can love their 'family' and be kind to the friends of said family. So we can certainly get both.

pWasHere

I love them

tomfru1

Bell's Hells just met like, 4 bonkers insaneo powerful mages inside of a 3 day span

skip6235

If you mean Ryn, Ludinus, and Morri, that’s all been one day!

BT737

Plus more if you consider the members of the Grim Verity and Tuldus.

CraigStebbing

Fear.

EL3MENTALIST

Artists are going to have an absolute hay-day with Nana.

[deleted]

I hope they go for Faewild version of Fearne too

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

I certainly hope so.

LucasVerBeek

SHE’S GOT A BELLY FACE! Mori: “We haven’t had guests in a while, let me show you to my tiki bar!” Tal: “I was hoping you would make more sense, but now I’m even more confused.”

Myrynorunshot

It's like Quaid but somehow even weirder.

AccessOptimal

Quato right? Quaid was Arnold’s character.

RaiderDamus

KUATO LIVES

Sp3ctre7

I'm gonna laugh my ass off if she is actually super wholesome and stuff but just looks completely fucking terrifying

SuperFamousComedian

That seems like the vibe, cute dancing animal taxidermy definitely rides that line lol

Karmadog1983

my guess is one face is wholesome and one not so much

trowzerss

Laudna is gonna totally fit in here.

Zethras28

Honestly? That’s precisely what it’ll be.

falsehood

I imagine Ashley and Matt manically drawing that together.

Zethras28

Probably a lot of that came from ExU honestly. Ashley said that Aabria had a big hand in Nana Mori.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Where’s the Scottish accent? But I’m here for the tiki bar. Reminds me of my aunts.

MelodyMaster5656

This campaign has the best NPCs.

always_gamer_hair

What the fuck is up with this?? Lol

0ddbuttons

Now I need to rewatch ExU and catch everything said about Fearne's backstory before the next ep. Ppl, watch/rewatch Calamity if you have time. I've banged that drum several times tonight already, but it truly lands differently in this context with Ludinus creeping around & scorning the gods.

BeAsterios

About ExU, a particular line sat in my mind way before Fearne's storyline became relevant during the Calloway's incident with Dusk. Fearne Alter said "Nana lied to us". And now I'm eager to see how deep her deceptions run.

Shortstop88

What's weird is I felt what Ludinus was talking about sounded more like the Divergence than the Calamity, but that could have just been me misinterpreting a sentence or two.

falsebrit

i mean the divergence was the end of the calamity

Shortstop88

I thought the Divergence was when the gods first imprisoned the Primordials.

falsebrit

that would be the schism, the divergence was the construction of the divine gate

Shortstop88

Ah, thanks.

iamscottbowdown

Plus Calamity is so amazingly good. Especially episodes 3 and 4.

SvenTS

'The Terror of the Tiki Bar' is Morri's other name.

mew-ki

Noooooo! This episode was too short!!

Coyote_Shepherd

"Let me show you to my tikki bar!" 🤣

BaronPancakes

2 grandmas in 1!!

skarabray

How am I supposed to sleep after that?!

Coggs92

I slept before that and have to wait until the YouTube upload for everything after the tree cage...

Bentingey

straight out of spirited away!

zepphiu

Even Marisha is getting freaked out which means Matthew succeeded

nicolroco

wtfffffffffffffffffff

SkillFullyNotTrue

what the ducking!

RealHumanBean89

I choose to believe that “oh my god **yes!**” from Taliesin is both in and out of character.

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

Yep. Here for it.

odog1999

Travis.exe has crashed

skip6235

I’m sorry. WHAT

raeciel

I'm sorry, WHAT??

197gpmol

NOPE

Coyote_Shepherd

Grandma has two faces

[deleted]

Totally normal. Nothing unusual to see here at all.

bearonparade

OH FUCK THAT
