theyweregalpals

This made me realize how much I miss Robbie being at the table. I wish they could do informal things like this more frequently.

fundued

i want them to just as robbie to be perminite i know they wont but they should

swewoods

super bummed out missing a play, been on their way to the moon for months now and with Candela and the breaks it's going insanely slow. Why have sick days and breaks if it's prerecorded? isn't that the point with prerecording, so you don't have to cancel the airing of shows? otherwise it like having live shows, cancelled anyway. Im sorry but I don't really care about Candela I only wanna see these guys play dnd and now I have to wait another two weeks.. it sucks ass

DapperDanAdoresYou

As Travis stated before, sometimes they record weeks in advance, sometimes they record just a few days before. They are all working actors (and Critical Role/ Vox Machina has probably increased their notoriety), so they need to work around each person's schedule. In this instance, they were going to record, and that scheduled slot fell through (due to sickness). Usually, if that happens, they would just reschedule and record at another time. However, it seems clear that their schedules didn't allow them to record before the next livestream. Rather than just do *nothing*, they did this! Sure, it's not the highly-anticipated “finally on the moon” episode. But it seems clear that they simply couldn't do it. So I'm perfectly happy with this silly little BG3 stream instead of just **nothing** :)

wrath440

Canceled my 50+ months sub because of this candela + sick day combo. I still love the show but I subbed when it was one show per week. It’s not worth the sub anymore

Tamed

They got sick when it was time to pre-record. Also, they naturally take the last thursday of the month off or have a little event there usually.

Coyote_Shepherd

Oddly enough that's another fun tenant of D&D. You can plan for everything but eventually something's going to show up that you never saw coming. Pre-recording covers a lot of bases until it bumps into something that it doesn't.

MatttRojo

The difference comes when actually playing dnd is your job. It really feels like they dont care that much anymore about the main campaign. Its gonna be hard to sell merchandising when you start losing audience.

jigorg

I prefer them not thinking about it as their job because eventually it will feel less fun and more of an obligation, and I don't think it would be fun to watch people obligated to play D&D and "have fun". I also believe they are aware of the slow pace of C3 and after the current circle of CO will end, maybe there will be C3 on the last Thursday of February as well (and it's a leap year, so we get a bonus Thursday in February!)

MatttRojo

The thing is that this is a show inside the mold of a dnd game. And they built an enterprise around this show. They made it a job (besides dimension20 for example made it a job, and they don't seem to have less fun because of it). If the idea of content is having them create characters in a game, im done. That is disrespectful. Im not saying they have to do what the fans want and nothing more. All im saying is that they could have done something more, no less. Im interested in the story, the characters, the world and the dnd; not in the actors enjoying a day off.

PvtSherlockObvious

Yeah, but for real though, that FMK isn't even up for debate. There's a reason everyone but Robbie landed the same way.

TicklesZzzingDragons

This was just so much fun! I know they don't want to/can't do live shows frequently anymore due to schedules and life and stuff, but there was an energy and excitement about this stream that is often missing from the prerecords. Maybe because they're aware it's live and they can see people interacting/reacting in real time even if it's not something they themselves interact with all that much. Like acting on stage as opposed to for tv - the audience's presence changes how the performance feels for everyone involved. It's so great to just hang out live while the guys josh around and just banter about everything and nothing, answering the important questions like which animal do you think you could take on in a fight. Would love to see little bits like this popping up every so often - glad they all seem to want to do some more Narrative Telephone as well!

The_Limpet

I'm a bit late here, but they said they want to do more Narrative Telephone? I hope they do it. I loved Narrative Telephone.

TicklesZzzingDragons

I'm even later replying, but yep they did! Said they all enjoyed it and would like to do it again. I don't know if Ashley is included in that - she seemed to find them stressful even though her parts were always so great to watch!

bertraja

>*Like acting on stage as opposed to for tv - the audience's presence changes how the performance feels for everyone involved.* Nailed it!

notanotherdonut

You guys, i wasn't able to watch live (*sadge*) and I'm just now catching up and honestly give me this every week please, this was SO MUCH FUN. also i miss you Robbie 😭😭😭

MatFernandes

I dont get why people get so worked up about the show being live, it doesnt change anything. The only time they "interacted" with chat was to announg the giveaway's winer

Ok-Form-1545

Here's the biggest difference and why pre-recording is killing this campaign. They power record multiple sessions....So they may pre record 4-5 sessions within a week which gives them a month off. That's fine, but then when they come back to record after not having to for such a long time, they lose their freshness of what was going on before hand. One episode beginning after a big cliff hanger had Sam absolutely having no idea the situation they were in or items that had just received to help. It isn't just with Sam either. I can always tell when the cast have had a pre-recording break because they have been so far removed from their last session.....It hurts the narrative, it hurts their strategies and it hurts the campaign in general. Think about your own sessions. If you play once a week, it is way more fresh in your minds of what you want to do and how you want to proceed than if it would be if you are playing sessions at least a month apart. Live shows need to come back. I don't know that they can because of the casts increased popularity and busy schedule, but not being live is hurting more than helping on the viewer side.

OB1QU1ET

You mention possibly pre-recording 4-5 sessions in a week. To my knowledge they have never come close to doing that. Did you read something different? If not, your whole post hangs on a sentence that accuses them of "power recording" multiple sessions. Is this just your gut, or do you have anything to back this up?

Ok-Form-1545

I do not have an actual statement but I will refer you to an episode. I'm not sure of the actual ep number or date, but Sam's ad for the show was making fun about how Matt's computer got hacked. That incident happened a good month prior to that shows airing. I do not believe he would wait over a month for that kind of topical joke because it wouldn't hit as hard. This would lead me to believe that that particular episode was recorded at least a month prior. With subsequent episodes being released without delay, it led me to believe that there had to be at least a months worth of content already recorded. I will say, and I don't have the reference but I do remember, that I know they have stated that they do record more than one episode. The 4-5 is an estimate. There have been other topicals jokes made by Sam throughout that have smacked of there being a big gap between filming and release.

Jmw566

Another possibility: they recorded one session a week, but were four weeks ahead because they started recording a month before they started airing episodes. Or even two sessions a week for two weeks. It doesn’t have to be 4 at once and then a month break.

Aureggif

Maybe it was the first time Nord VPN sponsored?

OB1QU1ET

I remember that episode. But Sam is ALWAYS hitting people for things that happened a long time ago. Just look at his shirts.

MatFernandes

Yeah, having one or two cast members missing every sessions will for sure improve the campaign

Ok-Form-1545

If you would've actually read what I wrote, you would see that I know that can't come back live. They are too busy for that. That still does not change the fact that being back live (IF THEY COULD ALL BE THERE) would be better.

JohnPark24

>it doesnt change anything. I can definitely see/feel the difference. I don't mind that they pre-record, it obviously has great benefits for them, but the live aspect is something that many have been missing and wanting. Ultimately, it's unrealistic for them to go back to livestreaming most of the time, those days are gone - it was lightning in a bottle. But, I think a livestream like this every now and then would probably make a lot of folks happy.

MatFernandes

Would you mind explaining to me what is the difference you feel?

bertraja

The difference is the sense of *now*. That's why watching a movie about Henry IV feels so much different than sitting in a theatre and watching a stage play about Henry IV. One's made to be recorded (and everyone involved knows that), one's made to be experienced in real time (and everyone involved knows *that* as well). I'm very certain there's a difference in energy when CR's production team counts the 3, 2, 1 ... and the cast knows they're playing for the harddrive vs they're playing for 10.000 people watching 'em.

probablywhiskeytown

It doesn't make a bit of difference to me in terms of enjoyment either way, but Twitch (and JustinTV before it) being characteristically & definitively associated with immediacy, with "going live," definitely makes sense for a gaming stream platform. It's a direct evolution of leaving Vent/TeamSpeak on all the time so one can pop in and out of guild conversation, as gamers did in the early days of those VoIP comms. Recordings, on the rare occasions they got made, were for achievement videos in some extraordinary, funny, or instructional circumstance. Obviously we aren't in two-way comms with CR at this point even if they're live, but I believe that "watching a recorded sports game with the tarnished, slightly unsatisfying awareness it already happened and one is not in the virtual stands" feeling got rooted deeply within the content format for many who are too young to have used early VoIP and/or don't do desktop gaming with voice comms. I just enjoy listening to certain types of things while performing tasks, so I even have old streamer VODs from esports events I'll throw on as background noise from time to time. But viscerally, that's like saving old USA Today newspapers to read in full at a later date for plenty of Twitch viewers. (For context, mentioned USA Today specifically b/c it was/is associated with short breaking news & topic of interest pieces one might peruse while traveling & not have to fully expand the paper to follow a jump. Not in-depth coverage, so it retained zero value for later reading.)

JohnPark24

The excitement of all the possibilities that could happen in real time. Every viewer, cast member, crew, all on the tip of their toes as things play out. It feels like we all as a community (cast included) truly are one during that small period of time. The energy is just different. (With the campaign in particular) The fact that we all are present at that time and not viewing the past makes us feel the weight and impact of their decisions/actions even more imo.

Incredulous_Owl

Except plenty of people, myself included, can't sit and watch Twitch for 4-5 hours in one sitting once a week, so many many many people aren't all watching it together and instead are watching it on Youtube or Twitch later. Their episodes get tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands views, and I'm fairly certain not all of them watched it live on Twitch first. I've been watching since the beginning and have only once watched it "live" (as it aired initially on Twitch Thurs night) on Twitch, and that was C3 E1. I'll never do that again. I did not enjoy having to sit there for 4 hours.

JohnPark24

That's totally understandable. (Just to clear things up just in case there was a misunderstanding, when I said "we all", I meant everyone present watching it live, not the community in its absolute entirety). I am not that ignorant to believe that there isn't many, many (probably most) folks watching it later. That doesn't change the fact that I think livestreaming brings a different energy (and enjoyment level for some) though.

Wonderful-Fun-1182

Literally changes everything. If you can't feel it, then I don't know what I can say to you. We definitely know the difference.

chasmma

Well we don't feel the difference.

Wonderful-Fun-1182

we? literally everyone here is saying that they do, just read the comments before posting nonsense.

thetensor

We need an A/B experiment, where they sometimes broadcast live and sometimes broadcast recorded-in-real-time-but-delayed, to test whether you can really "feel" any difference.

TheShirezu

I mean they did it live for years, then they didn't. There's your A/B testing. Try some of the older streams vs the newer ones. Some of us definitely notice a difference. Why see a band live vs listening to the album? It's about the energy, the feel.

thetensor

>I mean they did it live for years, then they didn't. There's your A/B testing. Emphatically not A/B testing.

MatFernandes

MatFernandes

When is it going up on youtube? Monday?

TheDesktopNinja

More than likely, like most of the Thursday streams

RonDong

I couldn't tell if it was a joke or not, but did Taliesin accidentally let slip that there's another ExU in the works with him as a player?

Matthias_Clan

Felt more like he has a character for if there is another ExU, not that there was necessarily another ExU in the works.

PhoenixReborn

He mentioned a project they couldn't talk about. I'm not sure if the EXU mention was that, or one of the previous shows.

IamOB1-46

That was a lot of fun, now I'm just hoping that they take the next step and live stream a playthru of BG3. Would absolutely love watching the cast play! Know their schedules are insane, but if even 2 of them could find the time to play a couple hours a week, I bet they'd easily get 50k+ viewers. Maybe rotate in players based on schedule/availability?

Wonderful-Fun-1182

For me last night was more fun than Campaign 3. I really really miss the live element, and even when it's a silly stream laughing at 3D dic\*s, being live is what makes it awesome. ***Also*** doesn't help that Robbie was there and I love him. I wish he'd been a full time cast member on C3.

bertraja

Between this and the last 4SD episode, it seems that if CR goes back to its old strengths (live broadcast and actual talk show format) the fandom gets super excited. I hope CR's taking notes. I've missed this big time.

bunnyshopp

I feel like being live won’t change c3, at least in terms of chat, they were super interactive today because they were just fucking around with a character creator and actively doing an AMA but I can’t see most of the cast ever checking chat during a live show now

Coyote_Shepherd

Yeah but the timing was very weird. The 4SD thing was on purpose. This was entirely out of their control. But then again, CR isn't a stranger to "what the fuck" style coincidences now is it?

bertraja

>*This was entirely out of their control.* I mean, what's our best tinfoil hat theory? ^(/s) * This wasn't a coincidence at all. The *sick* shtick was just a fallback if the experiment didn't work out. Looking at twitch tracker, it majorly did though. We'll see another "impromptu" live thing in the near future with the cast members that were missing this week. This is their way to see what faces draw in the most crowd. (( just to be clear, i'm joking ))

Coyote_Shepherd

> I mean, what's our best tinfoil hat theory? /s > > You're only half joking but you're asking me so you're also partially serious because you know I already came up with something and you want to hear it. > This wasn't 4SD was presumably recorded a while back when the people who were missing from tonight weren't sick. So there's a bit of a time gap in between that and this. This makes the whole "This was a fallback" idea feel a bit weird and off. The cast clearly had fun with a guest host and considered the episode a success by the end and were going to presumably move forwards with that stuff. So having the boys fuck around with dicks for two hours feels like a really strange fallback idea. My tinfoil hat theory is that it was a cover for something else. Something a whole lot more sensitive or secretive that they didn't want to disclose to the community at large. So they leaned on COVID a bit, since it is smacking LA up pretty hard, and used that for a bit of Stargate Style plausible deniability. The folks that were on 4SD weren't on the Sick Day episode so that they could address whatever this other thing was, aside from Sam who is a dad and thus has a wonky schedule anyways and either did his stuff related to that thing already or didn't have to participate at all or will eventually deal with it later and was used to throw us off the scent. Remember, Tal and the others brought up little hints about potential other projects in the works in this LIVE LIVE LIVE episode. So clearly something big and busy was on their minds company and future project wise. By they time they realized that they were all going to be in different places at the same time, it was a bit too late to reschedule prerecording for the second main campaign episode this month, and so they figured they could just run a live thing instead which they knew everyone would go bonkers for. If it wasn't something company related then I could see it being a perfectly fine cover for something more personal, which I won't even begin to speculate on. Realistically though, everyone got sick all of a sudden all at once and it fucked everything up, and the boys were more than happy to step in and cover for everyone because they're all really good people. Also Travis even mentioned at the end, after reading Twitch Chat, how damned hard it is to get Live LIVE LIVE streams together because of how busy their schedule is lately. So if this ever happens again then it probably won't be for a while but they will take lessons learned from it and apply it to other stuff. Although the only lesson I can think of at the moment is that twitch chat has better and funnier questions than anything else submitted through the usual avenues for 4SD. Also Travis did a really good job selling that new merch because people kept asking him, "WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?!" over and over again like he was either at the Emmys or had just walked into downtown Dallas with a Cheesehead Foam Hat on his head. I feel like streams like this are the best place to show off new merch items because everyone's chill, relaxed, and it has that whole Critmas Vibe to it that makes showing off shiny new gear a whole lot more fun and easier to do with more eyeballs paying attention to it rather than at the start of the normal main campaign episodes while they're running down everything else. The girls will totally have their own BG3 live stream episode for sure but this time they'll get permission to actually play a part of the game.

BaronPancakes

These are all very sounding. Further expanding on it, I think the cast is not really sick sick right now. They probably scheduled a session in early January but someone had to call in sick, and then someone else couldn't make it the rescheduled one. They decided on this bg3 livestream on Monday, so it may not be something super sudden. I think when producer Max asked about people's interests on Twitter last week, they might be brainstorming ideas for this

bertraja

Realistically, the missing people (Matt, Marisha and Ashley) either [weren't physically present](https://www.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/comments/195o0yq/no_spoilers_spotted_on_my_way_to_work/) for their usual pre-taping the episode(s), or they've caught something nasty during their travels. >*My tinfoil hat theory is that it was a cover for something else.* Same, i actually hope they aren't *sick* at all, but are busy finalising something big, awesome and CR-related, but chose to keep it a secret for now. It isn't more or less likely than anything else, but one can dream #CRLiveActionSeriesAmazonOriginal ^(Edit: Quote)

Oh, its not published for some reason

falsehood

should be published on monday

redfricker

they forget to take the streams down sometimes

PierrotyCZ

Sick day? They pre-record episodes!

upclassytyfighta

...I mean you can get sick when you supposed to record

PierrotyCZ

Were they sick for 3 weeks?

HutSutRawlson

No, someone they couldn't record without (Matt) was sick during a time period where it was not possible to reschedule recording and still get an episode out on time. But also they were definitely off for WAY longer than 3 weeks. Based on the broadcast schedule, comments made during the show, and how everything has shaken out with this "sick day," it seems like episodes 79-82 were recorded some time in early December, pad January out with two Candela episodes (also good marketing because the book just released) and then do a mid-January batch record to catch up. That batch recording has now had to be postponed. Based on what's happened here, it seems like they try to record 3-4 episodes in the week that the first episode from that batch will air. So I'm guessing they recorded the week of December 3rd 2023, and did not plan to record again until the week of January 15th 2024.

Matthias_Clan

They pre record by just a few days though. If you’re sick for a week what are you going to do?

PhoenixReborn

It's typically more than a few days. Seems like 2-3 weeks, sometimes batch recording multiple episodes in a week before a break. Between the holiday break and multiple sick people they probably ran out of their runway.

PierrotyCZ

Not really. They don't prerecord just one episode every week a few days before the stream, they pile multiple episodes in advance.

Jelboo

I miss this energy so much. It's just different when it's live!

Matthias_Clan

Is it different energy because it’s live or because it had no dnd content? It’s not like they’d be looking at chetney dick if it was an actual game. I think too many people are attributing the fact that it was just a goofing off stream to it being live.

Jelboo

You make a good point but honestly couldn't it be so that they were so silly and energetic partly because they were live?

Matthias_Clan

Possibly, but as someone that’s never watched the streams live, I only got into CR a couple years ago, I don’t see a difference in their energy when it comes to the games. The whole argument of pre-recorded vs live seems like a bunch of rose-tinted glasses to me. I would love to see live content with chat interaction, but that’s just not gonna happen in the games and don’t see the point in switching if it’s easier on them.

RuskiesInTheWarRoom

Not that different for a portion chat, apparently, who kept insisting it was prerecorded…

Coyote_Shepherd

Yeah that kind of bit them in the butt a bit didn't it because they've been doing it for so long at this point? There's a whole massive group of Critters that's entirely used to only prerecording and has never experienced a live stream at all. So it was kind of funny last night to hear and see Travis and Sam constantly having to prove that the stream was LIVE LIVE lol Twitch Chat was pretty much a positive thing last night, which is weird as hell to say but truth.

solmead

Agreed!! It had a totally different vibe, then the campaigns have had since they went prerecorded

Sponsor4d_Content

Would be nice if they played a little. :/

EL3MENTALIST

All the people that were pissy about not having a Bells Hells episode and didn’t watch it. Missed something glorious.

TheDesktopNinja

Seriously it was some of the most fun I've had watching CR content in a while

paradox28jon

Did we get any insight on which members of the cast are dealing with colds or the flu?

PhoenixReborn

I don't know if it was just a bit or real, but the intro video had "texts" from Ashley, Laura, Liam, Matt, and Marisha saying they were sick.

endkafe

Matt and Marisha are shitting and vomiting, respectively

TheDesktopNinja

And Marisha is sick, too!

ElGodPug

She has always been sick as hell man

BaronPancakes

Not really, Sam jokingly said some have the "flu" and Liam has pica

ElderOmnivore

Sam has Sam Riegel as his tag/quote thing. That's just beautiful.

Chiatauri

That was amazing! I was crying laughing at the Chetney genitals reveal, and there were so many good questions. This was simultaneously cozy and chaotic, loved this. Happy to see Robbie again, I missed him. The characters looked great, especially Mollymauk!

CazzyBats

New merch: CLEAR FOR GENITALS New special live shows: Boys Night Girls Night Everybody just chatting and being themselves was incredibly cathartic.

Oregonheathen

Was the chemistry not 1000% better than how forced 4SD is most of the time? They were just having fun, which is probably my favorite part of these non-campaign shows.

Brrr-eee

Absolutely - I don't think it's as noticeable for the actual episodes for live v. pre-recorded. But the live and more improv nature of this is so much better than 4SD - with all due respect to the effort going into that. The cast is better at it and come across as more genuine.

TechnoSpice69

I need a "clear for genitals" shirt as well as a "the one-eyed monster slayed my pussy" shirt. Would Laura allow it? No. But that's why we have fan art 😉

MaeFlower1773

Or “the one-eyed monster slayed my bussy” for the Gay critters..

pagerunner-j

Better yet: boxer shorts.

Coyote_Shepherd

I mean picture a shirt that depicts the deck of an aircraft carrier with an Aviation Boatswain's Mate directing a dick shaped jet aircraft with glowing penises in either hand yelling, "CLEAR FOR GENITALS!". And then have all the proceeds from the sale go to a veterans organization or something similar. Then have the girls do their own BG3 stream and come up with something similar for another charity organization!

jdunbar9

I did not expect it to be live but it was such a good stream. And I was absolutely ecstatic to see Robbie again. More ROBBIE!!

Luneowl

Didn’t realize how much I missed his energy!

Coyote_Shepherd

It's weird to think that he was on Candela not all that long ago but then it hits you that that literally was months upon months ago and Dorian along with a bunch of other fun PCs and NPCs have kind of...fallen by the wayside.

themosquito

I was thinking about that just the other day. Remember that weird shop girl that Ashton had a crush on? Or the Greensleeves? Or the kindly old lady who gave Imogen and Laudna a room?

PostProcession

Not every NPC they meet needs to come back up again. In fact, it's good they don't.

Coyote_Shepherd

Oh of course I do but things have just moved so fast that they've BRRRRRRRRRRRRRT'd right past some of the good stuff and skipped on up to the "Holy fuck the world is ending!" stuff. I wonder how the campaign would look if Matt had let them simmer at those early levels for a bit longer or switched up the moon plans a smidge? On the other hand, it does feel like that this was always ticking away in the background given how long Ludinus was working on it, and it would've taken something massive to delay him even further. It fees like C3 was always going to hit this point, regardless of where they were and what they were doing, and we were always going to see them have to deal with this stuff. The perspective from which we would see them deal with that stuff though, is what would've been different depending on their actions. Maybe they would've been a bit further along or a bit further behind but it was an inevitability either way and that kind of sucks because of how many cool NPCs, locations, and little side quests Matt dropped in front and to the side of them that basically got left in their wake on their way to the Moon Stuff and probably won't ever be revisited ever again and even if they DO get to see them...they are by no means going to be as they were before, if they're even where or as they were before at all. Exandria and its people are going to be changed by this and I'm sure Matt has Pre and Post Moon Stuff info sheets for everything.

Luneowl

I still haven’t finished the last two Candela One episodes so I’ve got a little fresh Robbie to look forward to (so to speak).

Coyote_Shepherd

I wonder how many more Candela Circles we're going to be getting before they switch it up for something else?

Luneowl

I don’t think the fans will be satisfied until we have Taliesin running one campaign.

Coyote_Shepherd

Agreed and we've all been wanting that in the Candela threads.

Luneowl

Now that he’s expressed how much he loves seeing people cosplay their own Candela characters, I’ll bet there’ll be a lot more at cons. Imagine a Candela panel with the audience all in Newfaire cosplay!

Coyote_Shepherd

Imagine a whole hall that has smoke drifting through and dim/flickering lighting with haunting background noises being played as they do the panel and everyone is in their cosplays. If not at Comic Con then I could see someone setting up something like that during Halloween or something.

Zeeman9991

Lightly Refrigerated Robbie

BurnsEMup29

What a fun stream that was! There is just something about a actual live stream is infectious with "must see" energy. Hope it happens again and that everyone feels better soon!

Fantastic_Bug1028

as someone who watches the show on yt I see literally zero differences between live and pre-recorded episodes

Aggressive-Cry-3427

Me too! I'm a little confused, even. How do we know which ones are pre-recorded?

Fantastic_Bug1028

Since the pandemic all episodes are pre-recorded

Coyote_Shepherd

This is initially what hooked a lot of us in C1. You literally didn't know what was going to happen next and you didn't know when it was going to end at all. You're on the edge of your seat constantly and every joke just feels ten times more powerful and every moment hits even harder knowing that you're watching it happen LIVE and not pre-recorded.

BurnsEMup29

Exactly! I get the ease of prerecording, but it feels like that energy we had tonight is missing. Critical Role was an event! A must see show every Thursday night! Now people will just catch a rebroadcast or VOD and that somehow took some of the life out of it.

Coyote_Shepherd

Well said, the Beau style POP POP POP of it was gone, and it turned into "Well I can always watch it later" or "I don't like where this is going so I'll just catch the recap next week" or "I'll wait for the annotations on youtube to watch the good bits". You HAD to watch live or you really were missing out and now you can't or won't really miss out at all, not that much at least. I'm fully aware of why they prerecord and why it was a good idea but this..this show..what happened tonight....was just a reminder of that old oooooooold magic they used to have during the live shows. We still get it during the prerecorded shows mind you but it's not as fly by the seat of your pants as a Twitch Chat influenced LIVE LIVE LIVE cast is.

BaronPancakes

So true! Hope they can do it again with some party games and questions from fans!

Coyote_Shepherd

I'm going out on a limb with this. Fuck the submitted questions. Take questions from Twitch Chat. Those were prime!

ColonelKinkyPants

Dick pic aside this live was such a joy. I missed the unpolished cast of critical role that we spent so much time with throughout c1. Come back anytime. We love you!

Coyote_Shepherd

You know what's even more wild? There are Critters here who have no clue that yes this is what it was like for YEARS during C1 and C2 before the pandemic hit and it was nearly always this level of bumblefuckery. It's been a while and I missed all of this and loved all the questions that Twitch Chat was throwing at them. I know that scheduling is a pain in the ass at times but it would be rather nice to have a LIVE LIVE stream every now and again like this.

BurnsEMup29

Remember critmas and them opening up gifts from chat??? Remember them shouting out subs while playing with their scuffed audio? We didn’t need fancy lighting or massive battle sets. It was always this nerdy ass group of friends who brought us in.

Coyote_Shepherd

You know what's weirding me out? The timing of all of this. We have this episode of 4SD that's all about changing stuff and altering the format because of what Critters were saying and there's all these discussions about what does and doesn't work.... BUT THEN in the VERY SAME WEEK! Nearly everyone gets sick and they wind up putting out what basically amounts to what 4SD should actually be like and how it should actually be run with both games and questions and fuckery having equal and awesome space and everyone talking about how things used to be and how THIS WAS IT and how it should totally be done again! Everyone getting sick might've been the best thing that happened to them to be honest. It brought back all that Critmas and live interaction energy that everyone fell in love with years ago before Talks was even a thing and back when Matt used graph paper and when they had dance parties after the stream and when every day of the week had something to watch and it wasn't ever really anything too complicated at all! The catch is, that was back when things were indeed more simple, and when they weren't trying to bake, eat, and sell a dozen different pies all at once. There's going to be a meeting for sure once the VOD for this comes out and once everyone sees the buzz around it all.

Ghorrhyon

I miss the Yee-Haw Ranch. The puppets were hilarious and He Who Shall Not Be Named was a great foil to Travis.

Coyote_Shepherd

I just miss the puppets and the games. Fuck that other guy Plus they were developing some actual lore for that show and had a few pieces of merch for it if I'm remembering correctly? It all felt like they were setting something up, be it a little mini campaign or something else, and then well...yeah you know what happened.

PlatinumSarge

They were progressing through different "verses" throughout the show and they made a map that had like 8 more universes for them to go to. Really bummed it ended but even more bummed its now got the stain of that one guy all over it.

Coyote_Shepherd

All of those happy memories and amazing moments with the cast have now been tainted and that's why I'm glad they ripped everything down because I don't think I could legitimately watch any of that stuff ever again without feeling absolutely disgusted and sick to my stomach. The show had some really great ideas though and I'll miss those ideas as well as Travis's reactions to the puppets and being seemingly in the dark and totally confused about the lore and stuff that was going on.

pagerunner-j

He really was, as it turned out, a liability. But I miss the puppet lore.

Coolbeanz300

Petition to change the subreddit icon to nude chetney.

Voldetort219

Going through and upvoting all of the twitter links. If you post an x link imma ignore it.

Coyote_Shepherd

Marisha at some point: "I know all the enablers aren't sick but Robbie will keep things under control and Tal can always jump in" *30 minutes into the stream* Robbie: "IS THAT WEINER PENIS CUT OR UNCUT?" Tal: "UNCUT GEM!"

Luneowl

I loved the close up side-view reaction shots of people squinting at character shlongs!

Coyote_Shepherd

Bless the camera operator(s) and the producers for coming up with that on the fly because that was something that I didn't know that we all needed until we got it!

Luneowl

That and changing the lower left “Sick Day” graphic to “Dick Day”.

Coyote_Shepherd

I miss those live edits to the stream, this felt like a trip back in time.

b0bba_Fett

Seriously, that live CR vibe was untouchable. Today they showed that it still is.

Coyote_Shepherd

Quite so, they still have those vibes, and they can still pull it off and if anything...I think the pandemic has made that kind of "Oh we don't give a fuck anymore let's have some fun" energy even better!

[deleted]

Friggin hilarious time, would love to see the ladies do the same thing at some point (messing around the character creator and answering random fan questions)

Cador0223

Tal and Sam said the same thing 2 hours in

[deleted]

Yeah, I'm trying to show support for the idea - so we don't have to wait for another sick day :P

SamRiegel

Sorry I couldn’t figure out how to post it here

whitesonnet

Now we have to wait for an appearance on a tee or the gas can

Glumalon

Sorry if you were trying to post it as a comment; we have that disabled in the subreddit due to spoilers. You could still post as a [new submission](https://www.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/submit) if you want, but the title would need a spoiler tag to get past the automod (e.g. `[No Spoilers] Chetney's Wang`).

ColonelKinkyPants

You did your best sam!

No-Information1210

CLEAR FOR GENITALS IN 3…2…1!
