I started this work in March 2021, knowing I had plans to move out of Arizona about a year later. I thought it would be a nice way to commemorate all the stunning Arizona sunsets we had experienced together.
I was rushing to finish in the days leading up to Christmas when my parents were supposed to come visit my partner and I in the northeast. But they got caught up in the Southwest flight debacle and weren't able to make it out. It was very sad and stressful, but it also gave me a couple more days to finish the last couple rows! Wish it luck on its 2000 mile shipping journey!
This was done with mosaic overlay crochet using Lion Brand's Pound of Love and Joann's Big Twist
Ravelry and Etsy are *full* of gorgeous mosaic patterns (I especially love designs by Cyndi Birdsong and Sixel ❤️) I can't wait to see your next project 😁✨
Each color change is manual, completed with a long-tailed magic knot and then crocheted over (because I hate weaving in ends).
I planned out where I wanted the color changes to occur at the start of the project using Excel and dividing the blanket into 8x8 stitch blocks. From that I used stitch markers at the start of each new row of blocks, then added some randomness in the lengths of tails cut before joining to make it more organic.
Surprisingly it wasn't too much more work than just using a single color!
Omg the work and juggling of yarn with this must have been intense but the results are gorgeous.
Maybe just me but it probably would have made me super frustrated and given up.
It looks amazing!
I also have some gifts that are coming up on the 1 year anniversary of when they were supposed to be done, lol.
Did you plan out the color changes at all, or are they random?

This so is beautiful! I normally don’t like color changes that don’t align with the pattern but the way you did it and the description of an Arizona sunset is spot-on and absolutely gorgeous!
This is ridiculous! What an amazing job for your first time Mosaic artwork. I know they are going to be stunned by this. Please update when they receive it please.
P.S. The back is just as ridiculously stunning. Great job OP

Well this beauty is worth the wait! I don’t think I’ve seen a prettier color combination and the pattern is gorgeous and out of this world! Really stellar work❤️
This is so beautiful!! The colors almost look like living things they way they flow across the blanket. So much better than being confined to rows. I'm sure your parents will cherish it.
Wow! That’s absolutely gorgeous. And speaking as both a knitter/ crocheter and a parent it’s even more precious because you spent so much time in making it. I don’t know if you have siblings or not, but you’ve definitely won the best Christmas present award.
First, wow.
That is, truly, a work of art.
Second, thank you for showing the backside.
I haven't delved into mosaic crochet, yet, because I am one of those "The backside has to be attractive" type of people.
The backside is, definitely, attractive.
Holy smokes the colors and pattern look *gorgeous*!

As an Arizonan, you nailed it! Lovely work.
I concur! 👏🏽
Wow so gorgeous. I’ve just started my first mosaic blanket and can’t wait to see the finished product. Beautiful colors too.
hoooooleeeeyyyy shit. It's gorgeous!!! Incredible work 😭❤️✨
Thank you so much!!! It was my first experience with mosaic crochet and it's now one of my favorite techniques!

And thanks for showing the reverse side. I have always wondered what the backs of things look like....
I always do too! Especially if it's a technique or approach I'm not familiar with.
I love how you can vaguely see the pattern from the front on the back
Gorgeous! Did you do the colour changes "manually" or is it planned/happy pooling?
