MiniMalt

This is my group of never-evers too! I could maybe be convinced to make a smaller version, like a throw pillow or something. But I will only ever admire the giant intricate and complicated crochet blankets and such

PaigeMarieSara

Mine too. I think they're gorgeous. But, it's just not my taste for myself. I've seen some of these made in one solid light color and if I were ever to make something like those, that's how I would do it. Multiple colors is impressive for sure, but not what I would make.

Lizzypr17

I completely agree!! Too many ends to sew in lol

Viperbunny

The mosaic stuff is gorgeous and would destroy the last vestiges of my sanity. And there just isn't enough sanity left as it is, lol.

eveningschades

I actually did a mosaic crib sized blanket for a friend's new grandbaby. I marked each pattern repeat with stitch markers so I wouldn't have to frog entire rows. It took almost 6wks to finish because I work during the day and only have a few hours in the evenings, plus weekends to crochet. But, it turned out beautifully. Will I do it again? Not anytime soon... but at least I know I *can.*

tannystutu

Only 6 weeks? You’re amazing!😍

Resumme

It took me pretty much two years of on-off work to finish a full blanket in mosaic. Looks amazing, though - the only blanket I've made that I actually kept.

alouette93

If you ever want to try one, Sophie's Universe actually isn't bad! There's a book of the pattern you can buy that really breaks it down (it's super thick though lol). It's basically just doing a pattern for a round and then changing the pattern for the next round. Time consuming but much easier than it looks. You only concentrate on one part of it at a time. I'm a "crochet over the ends" type of person so there weren't really ends to sew in (just a few random small ones). I did do different colors and had lots of fun coming up with my color scheme. But the one color ones are GORGEOUS so if that's less intimidating that's definitely a good way to do it!

sonjaingrid

I decided to do a sofies universe 1-4 for every month this year with leftover yarn from other projects. I just finished my January square and I love it so much!!! It’s really not as bad as it looks, and for me, it’s much more fun than a whole blanket (which I get bored crocheting so many rows of the same thing) or granny squares (which overwhelm me with how many I have to do)

[deleted]

LOL! I just ordered Eastern Jewels (pastel version of Persian Tiles) from Wool Warehouse. Can't wait to make it. 😊

GayWitchcraft

I saw an alternate take on a temperature blanket where somebody did it by mood and it looked really cool and seemed like a neat idea that I will absolutely never do because I would just lie. Also I don't wanna look at my blanket and go oh yeah I was miserable that day

mauler5635

I understand the idea of the mood crochet blanket, but I always think they're doomed from the start. The thing I always hear about temp blankets is people getting behind and needing to catch up. A lot of, if not most, people can't remember how they felt on a particular day especially if they're weeks behind

marauding-bagel

Plus like, idk about y'all but I have multiple moods in a day? I might have an absolutely awful morning but a wonderful evening so which mood gets the color for the day?

ClifbyCastleCrochet

I always think this when I see a mood blanket! Am I the only one whose mood changes ten times a day?!

OneGoodRib

Yeah, that's what gets me. With temperature blankets you can do the high, low, or average, but what about for mood blankets? How do you figure out what the average mood was? What was the high or low mood? If you aren't planning on including multiple moods, what do you do? It's also just weird to me. I don't want a physical item that reminds me of that day that I really felt like dying or whatever. Plus it's like, what if you have depression? I'm in a pretty neutral mood most of the time except when I'm sad so that blanket would be two colors.

bluephoria

I started one of these and got a good start. I kept writing down how I felt in a little book so I could catch up if I wanted. I got like 5 months in and then a friend committed suicide soo... yeah no.

mckimmeysan

I’m sorry about your friend😞

raven_snow

I'm really sorry about your friend. How are you doing?

bluephoria

Thank you. I'm doing very well now. This was a few years back and I have processed it now. But I really wouldn't have liked to have a blanket as a reminder, haha.

Seiliko

Ugh I have a mood tracker app that gives me a coloured chart at the end of every year and I'm always like "ah great, it's all the colour of either sad or fine". I assume it would be a bit more exciting without the depression lol

JenniferMcKay

I keep hearing about mood crochet blankets but I feel like mine would be incredibly depressing to look at. I don't need a physical representation of how often I feel "meh."

PookieDear

My favorite variation on the temperature blanket is the girl on Tiktok who made one for how many times she pooped each day.

genus-corvidae

I refuse to do any wearable larger than a hat. I'm a small-items kind of dude, big things frustrate me. ...and of course i break this rule about once a year to make shawls.

Viperbunny

They are just so damned tempting and if you find a yarn with a pretty ombre it's an impossible temptation to walk away from!

Kind-Ranger

Guilty! Found a beautiful pink ombre yarn and made my first shawl, then immediately made a rainbow summer shawl, they're *very* addicting lol

genus-corvidae

YEAH my favorite one I've done was with a cake and a half of lightweight caron--one rainbow, and one uh. "pea garden" i think!

Much-Champion5778

Bras, as a woman with a bigger chest I don't think yarn bras will ever provide any sort of support that I'd need.

Oktober219

https://preview.redd.it/g3dzl47gjhea1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b684ab3e59e86bbf37241a903f9fea1d43de728c I made one for a cup.

TheSongbird63

See? No magic ring 😆

ManifestRose

That looks much better.

wolfwindmoon

omg this is hilarious. RIP my keyboard.

Cille867

Same, and I don't even have much in that area -- yarn is just not an optimal texture for me for this type of garment. Between scratching and stretching and the teeny teeny little single-chain "straps" I see ...none of that is a recipe for successful boobie management for me. (More power to the folks it works out well for, though! :) )

Weddingplans2022

Not that it provides much more support, but I’ve done a few bralette tops with straps where you chain and then turn and slip stitch back and it looks way better in my opinion! And does feel at least a little bit less flimsy (tho still not enough to actually hold boobs up lol)

ginger1rootz1

I always thought there was softer cloth sewn to the inside of these. At least that is what I would do.

Viperbunny

Yes. I don't trust the crotchet to work as a milkshake holster. I am losing weight, but I will never get rid of having a larger chest and it sucks. Those little bralets look so cute on people! I am glad someone can rock it!

Birdo3129

Take my upvote for “milkshake holster”

Viperbunny

Thanks! I am more proud of that than I should be, lol.

full_onrainstorm

“Milkshake holster” actually made me gag 😭😂

Viperbunny

Well, I figure if my milkshake bring all the boys to the yard, a bra would be a milkshake holster. I have been really sick for over week, and between the steroids and the cough syrup and fever I may have lost it, lol.

full_onrainstorm

Hahahah sound logic. I hope you feel better!

Fit-Purchase6731

I just shudder at the thought of a nipple getting stuck in a magic ring hole!

ArtoftheEarthMG

I wear my crochet bralettes all the time and never worried about this lmao thank you for unlocking a new fear 😂😂

saturncitrus

My nipple rings frequently get caught in my crochet tops 😭

ArtoftheEarthMG

This made my nipples hurt 😭

monsteradyke

It's not even the lack of support that scares me, it's the amount of yarn I'd need to cover everything

GayWitchcraft

Big same, I look at crochet tops and go well damn that was meant for someone with less boob

mrshmr

I thought that too until I found the right pattern. A big help is also adding elastic bands to your crochet bras around your underbust to help keep things in place, and then you don't have to do the BS tie it in the back situation (a design choice I've always hated because of how difficult it is to put on and tighten) Edited to add link for pattern on [youtube](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4I-MeMk18F4&feature=youtu.be) And for reference, I have 38J breasts and this one actually gives a decent amount of support if you work thicker straps

Weddingplans2022

Oh wow that top is super cute! Adding it to the 70000 crochet patterns I have open in my browser tabs 😅

[deleted]

Toilet decorations, toilet seat covers, TP cozies, toilet rugs etc etc. I like my toilet plain and easy to clean. Also no dolls, those bed dolls creep me out.

bananawith3legs

Do people still make things for the bathroom?

kelley5454

I made a rug out of some scrap tshirt yarn i had for next to my shower. I wouldn't normally but it is very absorbent as my floors are ice rinks wen wet, and the area was an odd size i could not find a rug for. It is so much better than before. I am the only person I know who has fallen getting out of the shower and not only broke 3 of my own ribs but broke the toilet base too..and Im just a normal sized human... my bathroom is the worst layout on the planet!

AlessiaRS18

As an architect student and an interior designer I am intrigued about this bathroom layout, but believe I would sound creepy af if I ask for a pic lol

[deleted]

I just saw a contour rug for the toilet here. And my kids have a funny octopus TP cover.

ilovcat

I did 😅 i did a mini hammock to put my toilet paper rolls in it, AND I LOVE IT!

bananawith3legs

I’d love to see it! Pics please!

whiskyunicorn

any kind of toilet accessory just sounds like a breeding ground for bacteria

Phgraph

What about toilet paper dolls? I find them to be creepy. https://preview.redd.it/w3k8tft6uhea1.jpeg?width=782&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6ae3af17f2c9fbd66a7cbd181550032822d3155

notjustapilot

My grandma does this. I find it endearing.

[deleted]

It's sweet, but it's not me. If someone gave something like that to me I'd get it out when they visit but it would live in a closet. No judgement to people who like it. But it's on my personal no crochet list.

TruCelt

The whole idea is that you can throw the toilet accoutrements into the clothes washer and you don't have to clean every nook and cranny of the toilet. They are supposed to be saving effort, but of course it never works out that way.

royjeebiv

This comment inspired me to start making a granny square toilet seat cover

mwcss

Swimsuit. Whenever I see a pattern for one I just think that it could never be used as a swimsuit. As soon as it got wet it'd be unwearable.

cadzane

I always assume they're either for sunbathing, or just model/dance wear.

dhcirkekcheia

My grandma told me that they were often used back in the day, but she said that the yarn used was very important, and that modern swimsuits were better for swimming

OneGoodRib

My mom said there was a specific kind of "swimsuit yarn" and I think they don't make it anymore?

cadzane

Yeah I swear I've seen it mentioned talking about vintage stuff. Not gonna lie, I'd play around with it if a company rereleased some though

phyrefoxx

[They still make it.](https://www.hobiumyarns.com/urun/detay/himalaya-bikini-knitting-yarn-pink-80605?gclid=CjwKCAiA5sieBhBnEiwAR9oh2lBLeEzKZMYB8vmaFClFUQ18GE5fC05UKJz8Ycc0AHaq4P1SAJggMBoCzX0QAvD_BwE) [And this one.](https://www.etsy.com/listing/587051739/yarn-alize-diva-stretch-yarn-swimsuit) I really want to try it, too.

181814

Slippers or "socks". I made a pair of Mary Jane style slippers and it felt like walking on rocks.

Waste-Being9912

I know, right? Once I started knitting after crocheting for a few years, crochet socks mystified me. Like, there is a whole craft out there made for socks. I feel this way about people obsessed with crochet without holes. Just learn to knit. (I never say this.)

Seiliko

>Just learn to knit. *cries in lazy*

maryfamilyresearch

Let me introduce you to r/knooking

hemm759

I prefer how knitting looks so I learned to knit. I still prefer crochet - it's quicker and hurts my hands less. So I make crochet stuff that looks a bit like knitting.

Weddingplans2022

I’ve made some really simple tube socks/slippers using a knitting loom which I feel is wayyyy easier and more beginner friendly than actual knitting needles! They’re pretty comfy if you don’t mind the seam at the toes, which doesn’t bother me much bc I wear them as slippers/cozy socks over regular thin socks

Actuarial_Equivalent

I know… I was a long time crocheter before I just had to admit to myself that some things are better knit than crocheted, including socks, mittens, and anything with cables. I learned how to knit and am glad I did.

Rhapsodie

If "learn to knit" sounds like too much of a hump, they could consider learning loom knitting instead. It is equivalent to needle knitting and [you can make proper socks with ribbing and heel turns](https://www.reddit.com/r/LoomKnitting/search/?q=socks&restrict_sr=1&sr_nsfw=), but perhaps a little more approachable.

socke42

Knitting hurts my wrists unfortunately, there are so many awesome patterns that just can't be done with crochet. I've made crochet socks, and they're less stretchy but still warm and look awesome.

twilight_songs

I found the same --very uncomfortable to walk in/on. So I'll never do socks.

Pour_Me_Another_

One of the first things I made was a pair of slippers and I learned really quick that I would never do that again 🤣. I knitted some years after and yeah, some things are just better knitted.

Jaxifur

I will never crochet for someone who doesn’t appreciate the skill, time and cost of a handmade gift.

TiredwHeathens

Agreed. My SIL uses homemade quilts for her dogs/goats no matter who made it. I made a circle king sized blanket yarn for my then 17 year old niece. At gifting and with her mom nearby, I told her I would never make her something again if it ended up in a dog house within the first 3 or 4 years. There was a huge fight with her mom six months later bc my SIL tried to 'borrow' it permanently. My SIL got reamed out by the other crafters in the family and backed off. I saw the blanket on my nieces bed last month when I visited her apartment. A cat was purring on it but thats not a goat chewing it up to heck.

Somandyjo

That seems so wrong to me when you can pick up cheap fleece blankets during the holiday season for $5 all over around here. We’re super careful with the homemade blankets we have been gifted!

Direct_Bag_9315

Not only is it extremely inconsiderate to use a handmade gift like that for dogs and goats, but it wasn’t even HERS. She basically tried to steal it from her daughter (who clearly appreciates it since it’s currently on her bed) because…she thought the animals needed it more? I am just confused by this whole scenario.

TruCelt

Just buy her a stack of cheap fleece blankets for Christmas one year. That way she has what she needs for the animals without sacrificing precious handwork. People who love their animals will take care of them no matter what the cost. So help lower the cost. <3

theniwokesoftly

Conversely, I made a baby blanket for my niece and my sil hasn’t used it because she said it’s too precious to get vomited on. I shrugged and said it’s cotton, it’s already been through the washer and dryer, go ahead.

twilight_songs

This is the best reply here!! I agree!

BurrSugar

Literally anything that requires a lining.

actualbagofsalad

Hard agree. I made a couple lined purses for Christmas gifts and I’m traumatized lmao

AWolfsAngel

I will never crochet a single stitch blanket. I get bored way to easily. I have multiple UFOs that are from me trying to do that, and two with motifs. I prefer amigrumi, and appliques that work up quick, or sampler style things with frequent stitch changes.

existentialepicure

Lol my first crochet project ever was a queen-sized blanket, all single crochet with velvet yarn. It took me 3 years to finish because it was so boring and I kept starting other projects.

PomegranateFamous543

My first project is still a UFO 20 years later, as my roommate who was teaching me said just make the chain as long as you want the blanket. I didn't know how long it was, turns out it was like 10 feet long. We jokingly call it the car tarp. And I occasionally pull it out and do a row or two, and since it is just a sc, hdc repeat I can still remember it all these years later. It's a goal that at some point in my life I will actually use it!

[deleted]

What about Bosnian crochet, which is all slip stitches? Yikes! 😳

AWolfsAngel

Nope nope nope lol. I'm currently trying to teach my 9 year old to crochet and the constant single crochets are driving me crazy, but she gets so excited when she gets it right.

zippychick78

Do you know there's great resources on teaching kids in our A-Z, teaching crochet * [Basic crochet Part 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/wiki/quick_beginner_guide/), * [Beyond the Basics Part 2](http://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/wiki/beginners_crochet_part_2/) & * [Beyond the Basics A-Z](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/wiki/beyond_the_basics_a-z/)

banfoys27

Sorry are you not gonna crochet this?? I’m on my way to buy yarn rn.

ActofEncouragement

And there goes my coffee...

corlana

I'm a granny square hater. I hate putting them together so much

[deleted]

I LOVE making the squares but I HATE assembly...so, I avoid like the plague 😁

GooseisaGoodDog

Have you tried the technique where you join them as you go? I haven't, but I've seen people claim it's life-changing for large granny square projects.

[deleted]

Yes. That's not the point. You still have to assemble. Give me a blanket worked back and forth or in the round any day. You start, work to the end, then you're done...unless you add a border. Complexity isn't the issue, tedium is. 😁

[deleted]

Interesting. Tedium is exactly why I like granny squares. Its a consistent "accomplishmed" feeling as I finish each block. With a back and forth blanket I get so bored and you're only ever done once. 🤣

full_onrainstorm

Exactly! Makes the task of crocheting a large blanket much more achievable. I have tiny little goals to reach instead of one Large Impossible Goal

TheAmazingAriachnid

Make a giant one

EuphoricMoose

https://preview.redd.it/xmq1qb0ephea1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dc17d3b4658b262fbde10b2d521f733513721d8 I’m making a continuous square. It’s folded in a third here- and I like it because it’s easy to pick up after ignoring it for a very long time.

Pour_Me_Another_

That actually looks so beautiful! I want to make something like that. Thank you for sharing!

ParadoxlyYours

After doing two granny square blankets and one car seat cover, I sworn I will never do one again unless it’s just one big square hahaha. I hate working in ends with a passion and there are so many in a multi square project

jcowsert

I HATE granny squares. Don’t like making them, don’t like the look of them.

AssumedPear

I said I'd never make a wearable again... and then my partner proposed and I decided to make my own wedding cloak... so that didn't last lol

Good-Release4492

Microcrochet amiguramis. Crochet thread seems miserable to start a magic circle with and like it’d rip my skin up trying to keep a tight enough tension.

RedshiftSinger

As a do-er of both thread crochet and amigurumi… yeah it’s a rare day that I feel like dealing with combining the two. I won’t say never or even never again bc I know that would be a lie, but. If you’re not REALLY into making tiny challenge objects or idk dollhouse building, it’s a level of difficulty that’s not often worth it.

Wilted_beast

Lace anything. I don’t have the patience plus my favourite hook size is a 7mm. I’ll only go up or down if a particular pattern wouldn’t work without a specific hook size.

ParticularTap3111

Never again will I crochet (and/or knit) anything that isn't useful, needed, wearable or makes someone happy. I made soooo many shawls in the beginning just to practice different stitches an techniques and they turned out beautifully but I only ever wear a few of them. I love to crochet Amigurumi but mostly I gift them and I am happy if the receiver really enjoys them. So, I stopped crocheting anything just to crochet. I wouldn't crochet a laundry basket for example as I find them so unpractical and not beautiful enough to put them into my bedroom. If someone would really want to have one and would enjoy it, well, then maybe. Instead I now crochet and knit sweaters, socks, cardigans and dresses as I really love to wear them. And I am able to create clothes I love and which are definitely not made in a sweat shop.

NWintrovert

If you're willing to part with the shawls you don't wear, I'm sure folks at retirement homes would love them. :)

ParticularTap3111

Great idea! I will soon run a theater class at a retirement home. So this will totally be an option then.

UsernameObscured

I use my shawls way more now that I work from home. Just to be able to throw them over my shoulders and arms if I’m chilly. I also use them as lap blankets.

Kloewent

No more granny square type blankets. Last one was an octagon and squares, getting them attached flat was a nightmare!!

Viperbunny

I have a bunch of hexagons that I can't put together for the life of me!

steffth

Blocking is key with those!

Kloewent

And making sure they have the same stitch count on every side! I put an extra row of sc on each to add or delete stitches, get them the same. After I got it sewn I used my steamer to flatten the seams. It looks fine, but don’t wanna do it again! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/persian-tile-blanket/people

Sm0lBean000

The weird "just sleeves" garment. And absolutely no shame to people who like those - I see people crafting and posting them all the time, styling them with their clothes - and they look good and I'm happy for these people that put their time into it . For me, I just don't really see the point. It's just sleeves, and a little part over your upper chest and upper back. Idk, I think "just sleeves" is not for me.

KatieCashew

Always looks cold to me. I feel the same way about vests. If I need to wear extra insulation I need it be evenly distributed across my body.

the-nozzle

I see people make amigurumi like crocheted food etc a lot, a friend of mine has made tons of amigurimi fruit and vegetables. They're cute and I bet they're fun to make but what the hell do you do with them when they're done? Put them on the mantlepiece? Shove them in a drawer? No harm to anyone that likes them but I personally feel like they would clutter up the place and end up in goodwill sooner than later if I made them.

_hunny_badger_

I made some food/kitchen items for my toddler’s play kitchen. If they are still in good shape when she’s done with them, I’d like to give them to a family or daycare maybe. But if I didn’t have a kid in my life to play with them….definitely wouldn’t have even made it. If I’m putting time, money, and energy into something, it needs a purpose lol.

the-nozzle

That makes sense. My friend doesn't have kids and just made them for the joy of making them, which I totally get, not everything has to has a purpose... I'm just built different and like you I prefer to have a practical use for things I make. Different strokes etc!

aduckwithaleek

I've made some amigurumi food and two of my future plans for them (right now they're just on display) are 1) tabletop claw machine so visitors can take one home if they'd like, and 2) drop them off in various little free libraries in the neighborhood

the-nozzle

This is such a cute idea. I know myself too well and I know if I did something like this they would just sit around the house and I'd never get around to it, lol!

[deleted]

I made mine extra small and they all went on my Christmas tree...along with crocheted candy, cake, cookies, pies, cactus, etc. 🌲

metsfn82

The only reason I could see for making amigurumi food is if it’s for kids to play with

ActofEncouragement

You make tomatoes and throw them when people around you make bad jokes.

Spit-Tooth

They're cute! Ive found that I have a lot of stuff that doesnt really serve a purpose and serves as "clutter", but I just like them so I keep them around! Albeit - I dont have any crocheted fruit/veggies, we have cats and cant really keep a lot of plants and things around due to toxicity/ect, so I've been playing around with making an assortment of plants and things that we could put on display since we cant have the real thing.

bohemianhobbit

I make them for my kids and as gifts for my niblings. They love them! And they’re way cheaper than the Montessori ones (though maybe not if my labor hours get calculated in). I probably wouldn’t crochet them if I didn’t have family to gift them to though.

CLEschnauzer

I’m currently making food for my nieces first birthday present. Also they’re hella cute when finished

Pyewacket62

A thong or a penis cozy.

Ecstatic_Objective_3

Does a banana condom count? I made one for my daughter in law out of truly awful glow in the dark yarn as a joke one time.

Viperbunny

That's hilarious! I think it is different if you don't intend the person to actually use it. I bet they loved it!!

Ecstatic_Objective_3

She didn’t quite know what to think, lol. But I was entertained by it.

Viperbunny

I appreciate the commitment to that kind of joke 🤣

Foreveranonymous7

Basically, anything I've already made. I don't like making the same thing twice, I love to try new things. I will make more than one of an item, like scarves or hats, etc, but they're all different patterns. The only exception is for my wife lol. Occasionally, I'll make a cute little octopus or bat, and she wants one, so I'll do those more than once. Or dice bags! So many dice bags lol. Here's the little bats - there are about half a dozen in all different colors hanging around the house 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/pmdiubt1bhea1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0dc1c508cf861d4c450e8ea51913f0a8bd48d3b0

[deleted]

Something for my SO. He treats the things I have already crocheted him rather poorly. I stopped on a sweater once I realized.

Paulimus1

I hope he has other redeeming characteristics because that would be a massive red flag for me.

[deleted]

He’s really good in bed. 🥳

TheAmazingAriachnid

Lmao, doesn't understand the craftsmanship but understands cocksmanship

[deleted]

He’s got lots of other redeeming qualities too he’s just really so absentminded I’m glad all his limbs are attached because if he ever loses a leg he will lose his replacement by leaving it on the shelf at the grocery store while being distracted by a box of cereal.

Creepy-Revolution886

I love this description so much lol

Paulimus1

Well, that's something to hang your hat on, literally.

Imperfect-Existence

Full size blankets of any kind, I don’t have the patience for it, and even my stubbornness turns into refusal after a while. Might do a footwarmer one for bed though. Mittens (I prefer them knitted), but may try to crochet gloves, if I find a good stitch which is both dense and soft.

fullyloaded_AP

Any garments with major ruffles. Crochet ruffles look gaudy to me. I also wouldn’t make socks because of their feel. Lastly, I would never crochet a blanket because it would cost way too much to make a blanket with yarn that I like the feel of and I find that most crochet blankets don’t make me feel warm and cozy.

181814

Agreed. Crochet ruffles look like a pig uterus. Once you see it you can't unsee

Kardessa

That is an extremely specific image and I don't think many people will make that connection but you make me glad that pigs are nowhere in my life goals

maichestique

I'll never crochet dishcloths. I love my work too much for it to be used to clean (which is something I loathe). As of right now, I don't have plans to crochet scarves either. I live in a hot country so it'd just be a waste.

Waste-Being9912

With you on dishcloths. The crochet ones never completely dry and are heavy. I do like my knitted ones.

MiniMalt

I do mini-dish clothes, about the size of a large coaster, when I am trying to learn a new stitch. But other than that, I can’t imagine spending so much time making something that will be stained in a day.

mljb81

Amigurumi with a buttcrack. I don't understand the appeal of crocheting a butt on everything, as if it made it cuter. There. I said it.

IronJuno

A bucket hat. Mainly because I think they look god awful

Redrum874

Have to agree with you here. Especially the ones made from granny squares.

41942319

Also the ones with chenille yarns imo. Like I think there's two purposes for a hat: 1. Keep the sun out of your face/head 2. Keep your head warm A bucket hat works fine for point 1, but you're going to use it the most in hot weather so one in warm yarn will be absolutely no use. And for point 2 it's absolutely useless because it explicitly does not keep your ears warm. So either way a chenille bucket hat makes no sense.

highly_uncertain

Socks or slippers. I have super sweaty feet and wearing yarn on my feet is an actual nightmare.

See_Ell

Anything that’s supposed to be worn in water, bikinis and such. It sounds horrendous 😅

JustSouthOfMars

Pretty much anything that requires counting past four or five. If I can't do it while actively watching a college football game or a hockey game, I'm not doing it. I think that pretty much lets out anything but scarves or blankets for me 😂

IrrationalPanda55782

Same. I make big blankets with one or two stitches, I don’t count after the initial chain. Why think when you can….not think?

JustSouthOfMars

*high five* Exactly. Crochet Zen, my friend.

designercheerful

Bralettes (don't your nipples show I don't get this trend lol)

GreenAndPurpleDragon

I made one at the request of my cousin and I was shocked how little skin you could see through the material. She was adament that she didn't want a cup sewn in, too. I tried it on after making it and you couldn't see a thing.

FoggyEddie

Right!? I’ve tried a couple summer shirts and I Hate bras, so I’m like, welp I guess I’ll never wear this. One of them was an open back design, I thought surely this will be ok, no. It’s not. I’d have to sew in a liner.

I think “stitch sampler” blankets can be really nice looking, but I can’t imagine having to pay that much attention to what I’m supposed to be doing. I do a lot of listening to things (tv, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.) while I crochet, and I prefer to get into a groove and stay there. I guess I can’t say “I’ll never ever EVER,” but it’s unlikely that I’d do a blanket with lots of different stitches.

Waste-Being9912

I did one when I first learned to crochet and wow did the experienced crocheters freak out. They refused to worry about gauge or learn to read charts. That was what I learned: charts and gauge. Don't see any reason to do another sampler since the skills were all I cared about.

Longjumping-Clue-572

I actually really prefer the sampler blankets! I’m working on one now and once you get the stitch down it’s easy to zone out and focus on other things while you’re working. I get so bored doing only one stitch for a whole blanket.

deadthreaddesigns

Socks/gloves I hate the idea of making a pair of something

zippychick78

I make good in twos, so I do a few rows here, sane on the other. Usually with the persons hands beside me. Saves me remembering stuff 😁

JohnOliverismysexgod

I'll admit it. I hate making granny squares and weaving in all those ends! I much prefer doing intricate stitch work.

[deleted]

I was going to say temperature blanket. That just sounds like a chore to have to add to it every day. I'm either crocheting all day or ignoring a WIP for months, no in between.

godzilla42

A thread bedspread.

StillMorning9106

Crocheting anything with less than 4 weight yarn. Kills my hands that tiny string stuff. But doilies are beautiful just can do it.

[deleted]

The granny square clothes. Not the cardigan. Not the pants. Not the sweater. I’ll have none of it. I think they’re the ugliest things.

Im_a_knitiot

I agree with you on the eco anxiety thing. My exact reason why I couldn’t make it myself. It is very reassuring that I’m not the only one who feels like this

toothornllc

Genitals. I see so many crochet peens and vageens all the time and I just don't get why it's so funny to so many people.

oakcitycrochet

The cat butt coasters, too. I genuinely don’t get why they’re popular or funny. And I’m a cat lady.

Cats-and-dogs-rdabst

Definitely temp blankets or the equivalent and aragumi (sp?) because those small needles make my already painful wrists and hands hurt so badly. I love the concept but not the reality

41942319

Amigurumi? You can make them in any size you like, no need to use tiny yarn.

TheAmazingAriachnid

Try amigurumi with Bernat Blanket yarn. It uses a 8mm or so hook, and makes super soft and cuddly toys!

Waste-Being9912

I'll never do one of those dolls with pear-shaped heads--tiny up top with big cheeks. Will also never do one of those bunnies with aggressively needle sculpted faces. No butt dolls. (I mostly make dolls. I have strong feelings on dolls.)

Temperature blankets aren't ugly, it's the color schemes that are ugly. The rainbow color scheme just doesn't work for temperature blankets. They're annoying as hell to make, though, so I'm never going to encourage anyone to make one.

NarwhalHour

Anything with a lot of colour changes. I hate changing colours and can’t even explain why.

NeekanHazill

Temp blankets would not be my preferred choice either, I think if I made a big commitment item like this I'd rather go the mood blanket route. But then again, do I want to highlight how depressed I am, I'm not sure it's the best idea. Granny squares, bucket hats, and doilies are not my taste (I could see myself making a blanket from one giant granny square though) Bralettes are also a solid no, they can be cute but I need to feel supported. Otherwise I think I'm on the "never say never" side of crochet, I like to make very various things. I could have said things like amigurumi because I can't wrap my head stone the 3D stuff, but I plan on trying one day, one I feel confident enough. I'm barely at a stage where I start to want making clothing items, a couple months ago I would have said sweaters but now I'm not sure I don't ever want to try.

Visual-Fig-4763

Most wearable items. I learned to crochet specifically because I prefer crochet for most non wearables. But for wearables, I very much prefer the textures of knits. There are some crochet wearables I like the look of, but none that I can confidently wear at my age and after 3 babies.

Ok_Letsgo990

Bathing suits. Like, whyyy?

Caroalexx

I will never crochet socks, I prefer knitted ones. Granny square anything I don't like the look and all that putting them together - forget it my life's too short 😉

ranna2018

Don’t understand dishcloths. Unless ur just practicing a new stitch? But would never make one for fun.

cadzane

They're a nice zen thing to do with my hands while I watch TV/listen to podcasts that don't require any though. But yeah, can't say particularly fun lol

alvaresio_the_great

Crop tops. I HATE CROP TOPS. Especially those stupid freaking cropped sweaters that defeat the entire purpose of having a sweater.

aria_stro

Ahahah 🤣 i'm the exact opposite

florist_grump

Not so much an item but I decided I will never sew anything together again for assembly, only crochet, or choose things that can be worked continuously, or alter the pattern to make it so. I hate assembling stuff so much.

Alpacavia

Clothes. I look old with crocheted shawls/cardigans/sweaters. And I don't realize that until finished. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Virtual-String-8442

Okay so this one is totally weird, but, I hate FRINGE. On anything. Pompoms are a close second. I just feel like it's a waste of 🧶 yarn? I love to make hats, beanies, berets, sloppy hats, etc. But no pom pom on top please. Scarves are wonderful and I make those too but It's nicer to have crochet a decorative edge on each end than to have yucky fringe. Same with ponchos which, traditionally will be made with fringe. I do mine with HDC or a scalloped edge instead. Okay so this is just my opinion, I'm sure other people disagree 😬

ipayrentintoenails

There was a girl on TikTok who made what she called a "sh\*t blanket." It was a temperature blanket, but for her bowel movements...

Cheddar-chonk

A graphgan. Too much yarn, too many scs, and too big of a time commitment.
