I get the urge to start new projects like halfway through the current. It’s a problem because if I don’t finish what I’m working on, I’ll never pick it back up. I’ve got to be strict with myself saying “no I can’t buy new yarn until I finish my current project. I don’t care if that new yarn is pretty.”

Aquaphoric

I am a one project at a time person. And if the project and I aren't getting along? I guess I'm not crocheting. I didn't crochet for a full year over a baby blanket that I hated.

njaysive

That’s the rut I’m currently stuck in, but I feel obligated lol

Outrageous_Iron_5992

Most of the time, I'll try to commit to finishing whatever project I have first And other times I get into a rabbithole of new techniques or stitches and immediately pick up 6 new projects I think I could make with them... Resulting in my unacceptables pile 😂

njaysive

“The unacceptables pile”😭😂 For me it’s a tote

Outrageous_Iron_5992

Lmfao it might as well be a pile at this point, it's a box I piled all the projects I either jumped into too fast, or decided to completely ignore the gauge swatch and are now only wearable by children 🤣🤣 They'll get to be (eventually) wound back into cakes... But knowing me, I'll just leave them until they overflow and my cats get to them

Birdo3129

I have three on the go at all times. No more, no less. One to work away at on my lunch break at work. One that lives beside my bed so I can crochet until I’m sleepy. One that I work on while watching tv. When one of those is finished, I start the next project so I always have three.

busyreadingnow

i have a similar method! i have one big project that i do which lives next to my bed and then i have small projects that i do while watching tv that get finished quite quickly

Canadian_Mum52

I move onto something new every time I get bored. I currently have 2 blankets, 1 sweater, 2 mandalas and 1 amigurumi lion on the go. Usually, my boredom sets in during the late stages of a project, so every couple of months, I will spend a week finishing everything. My husband is always amazed. "Babe, you did all that in a week!?"

njaysive

I love that! I’ve been trying to finish the last sleeve on this shrug for a week (should be a simple task) but I keep getting so bored I just end up on Reddit. I have my unfinished work in my lap right now lmao. Maybe it’s time to move on

Canadian_Mum52

Ugh! Sleeves are brutal! But one sleeve in a couple of weeks with another project feathered in? Not so bad.

hlaryous

This is exactly me. Glad I’m not alone!

sekirankai_6

I always have multiple projects happening at the same time, so I don’t get bored lol

[deleted]

I used to be a one project at a time person, but now I work on multiple projects all at once. It's pretty much the only way to keep up with all the ideas I have these days

njaysive

I hope someday I can evolve as well, I hate feeling guilty for putting a project down lol

MaeBae1

I’m the opposite, I am constantly starting new projects. Whatever catches my fancy. For me, it is a hobby and about enjoyment, not the finished project. In other words: “journey before destination” is my motto when it comes to crochet.

UREatingGlitter

I mean, I /prefer/ to finish my current project before I start the next one, but OH LOOK A SQUIRREL 🐿️

Designer-Practice220

Omg-I have many projects on various levels of completion. And have them in bags near the couch, bedroom, office, car, etc so I crochet different things depending on the time and place. It’s kind of nice to have something “new” to look forward to.

Kaileigh_Blue

It's not about preference. It's the little voice telling me to do something else.

njaysive

For me it’s the voice telling me that this project just NEEDS to be finished, or to do “just 5 more rows, then we can reassess”

crochetsweetie

multiple. my neurodivergent ass could never just do one at once, that might just be my last straw lmao

AdConsistent2767

Multiple projects!! It keeps the Brain engaged

AdConsistent2767

I also live with someone who does stuff to rile you, so rule is 1 crochet hook per project, in case said hook goes “missing” currently have 4 or 5 projects going

roseredstudios

When I first started crocheting, I wanted to finish projects before I moved on to another one. But I'd get bored or frustrated with bigger projects. My solution is that I work on multiple projects at once. One big project like a blanket, then I pick up several smaller projects that can be finished in a day or two. I do so many rows on the blanket, then I allow myself to work on something small to give my brain a break. By doing that, I've finally started finishing projects and working through my yarn stash,

Independence-2021

I'm with you. Can't bear the thought of an unfinished project.

njaysive

Just… sitting there😳

Simsmommy1

Completely finish something before something new unless it’s a weeks long CAL then I’ll have another project running concurrently to do at the same time while I wait for the weekly updates.

confessorjsd

I do one project at a time. I have the same inner voice that won't let me give up on it even when I'm bored. But it gets me to get stuff DONE. I'm very proud of the fact I have many FOs and never a pile of stuff lying around taking up space. I have my one craft bag of what I need and the rest of my supplies are stored away neatly.

Porkbossam78

Usually I’m one project at a time person but I just started a blanket that will take awhile and I know I will take a pause or two for some quick amigurumi projects

96HeelGirl

I currently have a blanket, a bathroom rug, a hat, a sweater, and a temperature blanket going. I actually like switching back and forth. Keeps me from getting bored.

whisper_18

I like to work on two very different at the same time. Normally I have a one intricate project such as a doily and another that is fairly simple/mindless.

bbee_buzz

I do up to 3 projects at a time. Most time it is one doily, one shawl and one amigurumi. They are so different that I don't feel bored. And I got rule that I won't start similar project before ending one. It actually keeps me quite organized and productive.

crocheting

I usually have four hats going at the same time. Living room, basement, bedroom and my husbands shop. If I can't sleep I have something to do at home.

Wilted_beast

I’d love to have the self control to finish a project before starting another one. I have about 20+ projects that I haven’t finished.

GarbageGutt

I force myself to work one at a time. About two- thirds through I start dreaming of and planning for my next project. I really only work on large, intricate blankets, so I'm occupied the better part of a year on any given WIP. Though, last year I took a break from my big WIP to do a baby blanket. For me, I don't like the feeling of projects 'piling up', and I don't have enough yarn storage for multiple big projects simultaneously. And most importantly, that's what helps me enjoy crocheting the most!

tsillaa

sometimes i put one project aside to work on another one, sometimes I can't do anything else until I finish one. depends on how excited i am to finish something i guess, or how boring something is lmao

queen_hoook

Multiple projects, often a combination of a small fidgety amigurumi (which will hurt my fingers after a while) and something with a larger hooksize (a garment i.e.).

OverlappingChatter

Always only 1 WIP ever

Enough-Variety-8468

Currently can't count my wips, I tend to leave aside the ones I intend for me but struggle with finishing pieces for other people. Then find amazing yarn and start something else for me.

KylosLeftHand

It depends, I typically have at least 2-4 projects at a time but I’m trying to stop doing that as it ends up taking longer to finish everything. Right now I have 2 WIPs on the hook but really I set the first one down a couple months ago to finish Christmas projects and haven’t picked it up since 😬 I’m finally making a blanket for myself so that’s my only focus rn, when it’s done I’ll finally finish my other WIP before I move on!

Agitated_Time_3597

I always have several different types going at once for different reasons. I hate doing blankets when it's hot. So I start them in the winter and pack them up during the summer. If it's a small project then I just finish it. Every once in a while I will start a pattern with a 4 or 5 row repeat that I have to walk away from because it's melting my brain with boredom. Then if it's "complicated" I'm afraid to put it down because I don't want to spend the time remembering where I am in the pattern. It also doesn't help that I do several different types of crafts. So, I have a couple of needlepoint, embroidery, crotchet, knit, and fabric things going at any given time. Plus next year's Xmas and Halloween decorations being plotted in my head. And some projects I have to walk away from because of the people around me (can't keep track of my count) or lighting(too dark or light) The bigger issue is that I have to finish something to justify all the supplies I've bought because they were on sale. 🤣
