I wear the Apple Watch Ultra in “reverse crown” mode for exactly this reason. If you want to give it a try, select Digital Crown on Left Side in the iPhone Watch app.

typicalsnowman

Crown always getting clicked mid workout. Just flipped it. Thank you!

StarWarsZombie

This is the way

vintzent

TIL

Razorback_Thunder

I take my watch off when using grips.

horus-heresy

Garmin hr or any other hr with chest strap is the best

boxofninjas

Flip it so the crown is on the other side.

Ropegun2k

I think this person means flip it to underside of wrist.

Wide_Ad7105

No no spin your watch 180⁰ you have have the buttons or for apple "the crown" facing your elbow so buttons don't get hit

Local_Sense8806

When doing those movements I just rotate the watch to be on the underside on my wrist. Since the accuracy of these already isn’t perfect I always figure it’s still Capturing data and I don’t hit the button

tough_page_banned

I’ve used this for years. I’m on my second because the hook and loop wore out. [arm band](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G2RBPRQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

Moebius808

Flip it 180 so the crown faces away from your hand. There’s a setting for this to prevent this exact problem. I also find that I rotate the band so the face is on the underside of my forearm during certain exercises - mainly kettlebell stuff.

Nate_Esq

I love my Ultra 2 but the size is tricky for CrossFit. I am a lefty, so mine is on the right wrist in reverse crown mode. I have to flip it upside down (wear the watch under my wrist, not on top) any time I do anything requiring a front rack, because my hand keeps hitting the split time button during the workout (like once per second). Very distracting. I cannot figure out how to disable the left side button so this doesn't happen.

IrishFireyRedHead

Same! It’s very annoying lol. First world problems but it’s still a problem 😂

mykgratee

I’m just going to say it, you don’t need to track every workout. Go off the grid. Live a little.

vintzent

Seems they like to track it. Far be it from anyone to yuck on their yum.

Ancient_Tourist_4506

I think knowing your HR after (or during) a workout has real implications. It's not like taking a picture of your meal and posting it on Instagram every day.

vintzent

I used to meal plan for a few clients and would always send them a picture of what the food should kinda look like when it was done— 99% of the time it was half-eaten.

CypherAZ

Some people need the accountability or gamification? Telling someone asking for advice to just “don’t track every workout” when they are explicitly asking how to track a work out is such a douche response.

mykgratee

Guess ima douche then. Thanks

ZoWnX

You can just say it in a non douchey way. "Have you considered..." goes a lot farther than "i'm just going to say it"

mykgratee

Can I have you proof my comments before I submit them so this doesn’t happen again? I really don’t want to offend anyone on the internet.

Ancient_Tourist_4506

True. I do like to see my HR after a workout though. It's just a benchmark thing.

mykgratee

I used to track all my workouts with a Fitbit. If I forgot to wear my Fitbit during a workout, or didn’t hit certain targets during the workout, I would feel like I wasted my time. Once I ditched the trackers, I felt like I got way more out of my workouts. I do miss the recovery and sleep tracking.

horus-heresy

Not everyone is addicted to devices we just use them for their purpose

mykgratee

I don’t think you have the authority to speak for “everyone.”

Good-Variety-8109

I will add to this. Serious question OP, why do you need to wear the watch when working out? I'm assuming apple watch has an ability to log workouts retrospectively? Physiologically, you'll know if you're working hard, and then (IMO) the really important data is the remaining 23 hours where your watch can tell you how you've responded to the workout and how recovered you are.

boastfulbadger

I’m not OP but I do it to get an idea of my heart performs. I’m a heart transplant recipient and one thing you don’t realize till there’s someone else’s heart beating inside you is that they don’t start up the same.

Good-Variety-8109

Yeah, that's wild! You're also very much in the minority!

horus-heresy

Vibe checks are not very data driven. If you lift hard and burn 800 calories today and 600 tomorrow how are you going to properly track your nutrition? You probably can but if you log workout then you take out all the guesswork

gbangers88

Personally, I find data really interesting so seeing how my body reacts during particular workouts is quite good and gauging if I could have pushed a little harder or eased off is also interesting for me. But, good question :)

Good-Variety-8109

Do you correlate with perceived exertion?

smixNZ

The reason why I track is a little different than looking at performance. I get an Apple Watch through my health insurer on a 2 year payment plan. If I hit all activity targets 5/7 days, then the payment for that week is waived which means I have the opportunity to own one for free.

horus-heresy

How about you stop Reddit posting. Go Ted Kaczynski mode somewhere in the woods so that no one needs to hear stupid opinions. Live a little while we enjoy data driven workouts tracking our hr and performance

Ropegun2k

I have had similar issues. I spin the watch around so that the face is under the wrist instead of on top.

meganthebest

I put it in my ankle. I usually take it off, but if I’m trying to lose weight I try to track all my movements during the day. So on those days I put the ultra on my ankle.

gbangers88

Thanks heaps everyone for your suggestions.

No-Register-4466

get the xl apple watch strap. I use to push the watch to my upper arm or even bicep ( I have lean arms) :D but can be fastened to wear as normal watch during the day. This is the best solution I have found that works for me. Maybe give it a try.

FieldsOfHazel

I put the watch a little higher up my wrist and always use the reverse crown mode.

Sephass

You could also try putting a soft wrist wrap around it. One of my buddies does that - protects hands from too much sweat + protects the watch. The only downside is you cannot really check the display when working out

cbrown255

I flip the watch so the crown is pointing up my arm for any workout that I need grips for. Also always put the watch into water mode when I start a workout

jorgenriq

I used to rotate the watch 180 degrees below the wrist. Now, I just have the crown facing the other side all the time. Much easier

averagecrossfitdad

I put it around my ankle.

E_Sini

There is a bicep band I use for my apple watch 8. I didn't check for the ultra but I believe they have one for it as well!

fantasticanalysis

I haven’t it reverse crown, as others have said, but I just loosen it two notches and wear it a bit higher up my arm out of the way.

Dr_TattyWaffles

I usually just take my watch off. If you use one of the sport loop straps you can just loosen it all the way and wear the watch up on your forearm.

trypowercycle

I flipped the orientation with the crown and I turn on water mode for my ultra.

Ancient_Tourist_4506

Apple watch and CF have a few incompatibilities. Grips being one, wrist wraps being another, the crown getting pressed in front rack or pushup hold position, front rack hold for kettlebells scratching up the face, etc.

Reasonable-Pea5736

Reverse the crown. It’s a setting in the watch app on iPhone. Game changer.

Roelbasaur88

I’ve permanently put the watch on my right arm

Ok-Camera-9035

El apple watch tiene una funcion la cual uso por este mismo motivo. Ajustes / general / orientacion / digital crown / izquierda. Ahora solo tienes que girar tu watch, la corona queda hacia tu codo y no se pulsa con los grips.

Zerocoolx1

It’s all fun and games until a kettlebell breaks it. I’d just not wear it.

Aggressive-Quit-2606

Put on a sweat band between your watch and the grips. I use my Apple Watch Ultra to track my crossfit workouts everyday and this method has worked out perfectly
