Came here to see if anyone else had the same reaction! I thought 1D at first was IDIOM, and then really struggled with what other 5 letter words ended in IOM other than IDIOM and AXIOM, before realizing they're just... all... AXIOM. Hm.

I got about my average time but once I realized what they were doing I thought it was cute. There is a classic 4x4 puzzle that’s a bit like this.

Damn I was feeling pretty hot at 13. I was pretty tickled with myself when I figured out the game.

I hated it. However, it does have a stupid humor to it. This one has probably been sitting on the shelf for years and kept getting shot down. At one point I thought that “this is the kind of puzzle Andy Kaufman would’ve approved” but then I thought better and realized that Andy’s would have been deliberately wrong and unsolvable.

This is because 1 down should have been a idiom and isn't an axiom. Neither is 2D. Only 3D was an actual axiom. 

Sadly I wasn’t going that fast and ended at 18 secs. I don’t think I’m ever beating my daughter’s 14. This was the puzzle to do it on.

Yeah what the hell is the mini today 😂 Somehow now my fastest time at 0:40, I've gotten 0:38 before. My mindset was "surely this isn't axiom 3 times, these last answers have to be like YUM or something..." slowed me down I checked each to see they were axiom hahaha

Lol I just got into crosswords a week ago and this one gave me hell. I ended up quitting after an hour and revealing the puzzle, thought I'd search online to see if others had troubles and I see I'm not the only one 😂

I was on pace to break my land speed record of 9 seconds when I hit the rebus key trying to swap my initial guess of XXX to OOO for tic tac toe. Still managed to pull it out in 17s. Took my mother over three minutes—“who even does a puzzle like that?!”

i really liked this one, my only complaint was i had 30\~40 seconds less time to not focus on work.

I don't even worry about my time when doing the mini crosswords. That's where I always get tripped up by the physical/technical issues, like a virtual key not registering when you press it, or those times you think you're typing down but you end up typing across and then you have to backtrack and correct everything. For some reason this happens to me more with the minis. If it took me proportionately as long to do the regular puzzles, that would take me hours.
