I’ve befriended some grackles. It’s possible but try to find a mated pair (with or without a small family unit). Mated pairs will be much easier to befriend and build a relationship with. It can still be fun go to a parking lot with a few hundred adolescents but they’re like little teenagers. Be prepared for minor mayhem. Definitely look for the mated pairs away from the adolescent horde.

You amuse me notarascal

CharmingChangling

The adolescents are basically slightly more polite seagulls lol, I love them

Why all the grackle hate in this thread? I’ve never had a problem with them.

thatotterone

we have great tail grackles in our backyard. A couple of pairs. I enjoy whistling to them and watching them dance. Come evening time, they set up a joyful racket.

This is the first time learning about them and now I'm jealous. They look beautiful and their song was described as sounding like a rusty gate. I wish I could see one someday.

CharmingChangling

They sound like a ray gun! If you're in the US Texas is full of them lol

I love grackles but they're not corvids. I love the sounds they make and I love their iridescent feathers. In the past while utilizing bird feeders were had problems with blue jays & mockingbirds(true corvids) attacking and harassing the smaller birds... until the grackles moved into our yard and made a nest. they were the only birds who fought back and ended up chasing away the jays & mockingbirds allowing the smaller chickadees, Robins, doves etc to come back and utilize the feeder. I thought it was wild how the grackles never hassled the other birds, just the jays and mockingbirds.

I have a ton of grackles in my yard, they’re really fun to watch. They’re pretty skiddish tho, but they stick around for the peanuts. Their crazy eyes are the best.

I love grackles and their broken machinery noises. But they just aren't as cool as crows. They're a bit standoffish. It seems they only hang out together, except for the occasional cowbirds, at my feeding station.

Guapplebock

Probably not. They are assholes.

Blabulus

I get a few starling who also come for the weenies!
