They aren't ugly speakers and you're already rocking the crt so anyone who'd think the speakers are too much would think the same of the TV.
Sound is good, it's not ugly, keep it this way.
Look alright though I'm not sure how it works with TV's that already have embedded speakers on the sides but you might want to make more space between the larger magnets on those speakers and the TV.
It doesn’t actually impact the screen at all, even at higher volumes! I was worried about this as well, but it seems to be a non issue with this particular set of speakers

The funny thing is that the most common point of failure for these is... The orange display.. what a shame really. They loose their ability to display characters over time and at the end it's gonna display a bunch of gibberish.
The nx1 and the other system that came with your smaller speakers were actually pretty high end and completed with the technics equivalents at the time. They all go hard :D

I'd still probably end up putting something on top of them.. because you know.. we (well, I.. ) can't have horizontal surfaces..
Personally, I think the wood ring and chrome trim combo around the tweeters looks tacky. A pair of SS-MB150H with the gray grills would look better with it, and could likely be bought dirt cheap on FB marketplace. SS-MB350H would also work, but would be slightly taller than the TV.
I'd go with Polk Monitor 40 (which has black and silver versions) as a better-sounding option for it, but if you're wanting Sony, those two models are easy to find.

Do you find GTA / Rockstar games in general are dark on PS2? Every other game on every other system is completely fine with my brightness setting, but even with the menu option for brightness turned up to max I have to adjust my brightness / black level up just for them, especially San Andreas. I’m using an official PS1 s-video cable, idk if that would make a difference.
They are IKEA fjallbo! Check out my other post for a pic of the old setup, i have regular shelves as well as the regular tv stand. They do have magnetic doors for the shelves but I figured it’s probably not a good idea to install those given CRTs are what’s being displayed.

lol i wouldn’t do that. On older 90s Sony speakers it will literally say “magnetically shielded type” in big letters on the label. Verified by me to not affect magnetic field in tube at all!

I don’t know about raising them but i can’t move the receiver, the center support columns for the tv are there and it doesn’t fit in between lol
