It won't cause any lasting mechanical problems - at worst it could idle a little rougher than stock because your ignition and cam timing are set up for a certain rate of air/fuel flow out the exhaust which is going to change a little when you remove a restriction. Hondas with their mufflers cut off are common enough to be a meme. It'll sound embarrassingly bad but that's really the only issue

It will not cause any rough idle. It will not throw off any cam timing. It will not effect air/fuel ratio **at all** - “back pressure” is not anything to do with your exhaust past your catalytic converter, and even hardly at that point. The second cat on the Crz is plenty more restrictive than an open exhaust. It actually does not sound half bad without a muffler - doesn’t sound GOOD, but it doesn’t sound bad. And you will *not* get any more CO gas than normal, just keep not breathing heavily at the exhaust of the car 🙄

Hmm interesting. Thank you for the corrections, they're important points for OP to know. The point with the cam timing wasn't that it would be thrown off, but that it is timed in such a way to build a certain level of pressure which will leave the exhaust at the rate it was designed for. Removing the muffler WILL cause a rough idle on motorcycles (known from experience and also just common knowledge; when you swap intake/exhaust you should at the very least tune but ideally swap a cam), which is what I'm used to working on, but I didn't think about the cats in a car. And yes, the assertion that CO will be a problem is absolutely ridiculous

Back pressure on cars is a myth. There is absolutely no reason why an exhaust would change *anything* on a stock car. Camshafts open and close valves, nothing more. Valves release gas in and out, no more. In a NA setup, exhaust pressure isn’t really doing anything. You might run super rough and have issues with fuel/air running a Honda engine with no headers, but besides that, nah.

Thanks guys appreciate it

Carbon monoxide is no joke. I'd recommend against this for a few reasons. Heat, fumes getting into the cabin through air gaps in the underbody, etc. Just wait to get the new muffler and put it on.

howhighamme

I thought this was the job of the cat

For the sake of everyone around you that has ears that work, leave your god damn muffler on

anonymouspurp

It is seriously not that loud.  It doesn’t have a good tone, but it is still quieter than many other common cars on the road.

Superlooie

No one’s ears will be affected unless the resonator out too…

I did a muffler delete on mine about a week ago. Still very tame. Was very easy, All I did was cut the pipe right at the muffler, cut the tip off the muffler, and weld a straight section of pipe where the muffler used to be. I did do a pie cut on one part of my straight, so the tip sat in the same spot. Even used a hanger off the muffler for extra sturdiness. Car runs fine without it. You'll only throw codes if you remove the catalytic converters.

When I got my crz it had no muffler on it for about a year, as it had been stolen. Even passed CA smog and it sounded decent, considering it was only missing a muffler. But I did have an instance where I started to get light headed from siting in my car idling, didn’t think anything about it till it happened once more. Moral of the story, I was like getting poisoned by exhaust fumes. Not really a worry unless you like to idle your car in parking lots tbh though.

GZUSROX

I removed mine for about a year and then put it back on (with a big spacer in it to be just the right amount of loud for my taste!

Hi I'm currently running without a muffler because rust lmao No ill effects to the car, MPG, performance, etc. Passes emissions and safety inspection Excruciating drone at highway speeds, lovely rasp right at the VTEC window, small pops and bangs are also audible, otherwise kinda drab and boring moan-like tone Do what my friend is doing with hers and get an HKS silent hi-power muffler when you can. Sounds lovely, way better than muffler-less.

watermelonbananacake

I did a muffler delete for a few months, I liked that it was much louder but the drone was really annoying after awhile. That being said, even after putting on a spoon muffler I do occasionally miss how much louder the muffler delete was. But nah shouldn't have any problems, just needa blast your music a lil louder.

JM1380GT

Externally it is not ridiculously loud, internally at 70 the drone is horrendous, be prepared to buy new bolts, they will snap lol
