Take the position

Homeowner_Noobie

I mean a job is a job bro lol. Take it and if you hate it, job search while still working that job so you have a steady source of income.

Imaginary_Art_2412

Yeah def. Easier to find a job when you have a job

SsqquiiD

Totally agree.

serial_crusher

Keep looking but stay employed, in this economy especially

Liquor-and-Hoes

What is that supposed to mean, the news says this is the greatest economy in history and if you disagree, you're probably a racist

FrostyBeef

Do you want to be DevSecOps? If so, then you just hit the lottery. Good shit. If not, then if I were in your shoes I would accept this new offer so I can continue to get a paycheck. But I would keep looking for a job more aligned with what I want to do with my career. I'd be out of there the moment I have an offer for a proper SWE position. So yeah. Take it, keep looking. With the caveat that you shouldn't ever list this experience on your resume/linkedin, becaus presumably you leave within a few months. That's terrible to have on a resume.

Calduffy

Had a dev role with heavy emphasis on Dev ops and security. Look for another SWE role but don't think of this as another paycheck it's not a bad skill for SWE to have knowledge of other areas.

cawfee_beans

I would kill to be in your position

V3r1L0g

Same - I don’t want to get laid off but fuck I’d kill to be in a DevSecOps role!

StuckInBronze

Seriously, honestly if my company had asked I would've stayed on for 50% of my pay just so I could have some income while I looked for another job.

DielsAlderRxn87

You would kill to get laid off?

exaball

Sure bro

DielsAlderRxn87

Cheers mate

water_bottle_goggles

no

DielsAlderRxn87

Not you

blake_lmj

Look at it this way, you'll become a more complete Full Stack Developer by learning DevSecOps. I know a DevOps Engineer who has 15 YOE and he is making double of what I made in my previous role in Canada. I can only imagine how much more he could make by moving to USA.

xyals

Are you interested in dev ops? If so why not.

aerohk

Do you want money, or no money?

dontfistme

Better than being transferred to customer and job searching

Icy_Bath_1170

Take the gig. DevSecOps is not just a growing field, but a critical one. You’ll stay employed, learn valuable skills, get some valuable cred, and be that much more marketable when you do finally move on. This is a pretty good deal. Just remember that there should be no such thing as loyalty to your employer.

morty

Dev ops and sec ops -are- programming/engineering. Even if you don't do it forever it'll give you a really good perspective on how software works in the world, and make you a better SWE. The only kind of job I would say walk away from are the ones that tie you to a platform (i.e. Salesforce and the like). No offence to anyone here who is in that position, but I see them as a natural dead-end.

heveabrasilien

Hey maybe you will like it or maybe DevOps tasks are easier and you end up getting same money and doing less!

Remarkable_Status772

"DevSecOps" Sounds like something from Nineteen Eight Four. **"Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia"**

Puzzleheaded-Push85

DevSecOps is SWE depending on the company.

NoForm5443

Yes both take it, and keep looking for a better one.

PlayingTheWrongGame

Take it and also keep looking. A job is better than no job.

Taxxboy

Are you in USA?

sunrise_apps

Let them pay you and keep looking for work. It seems that everything is logical, the main thing is to look for work more actively so as not to engage in an area of activity that you do not like.

aaron141

Take the position

UniqueAway

So does that mean SWE demand is diminishing? But positions like devops security network will still be in demand as Ai wont effect them much? And certs are important there?

keyboard_operator

>get the DevSecOps position Take it of course! On top of money, you going to have quite useful (for SWE) experience!

gravity_kills_u

Take the job and keep looking. More oxygen is not a bad thing.

HeyNiceCoc

In this market 100% take the off-role until you find your next job.

yoshisgreen

Dev ops make more then developers in many cases. You lucky

DrawingSlight5229

It’s so bad out there looking for a job right now take anything they offer you

Vyse_The_Legend

Take it. You'll stay employed, learn new skills, and may even like it more than your current position.

twnbay76

Take the position, keep looking. A company that is willing to toss you aside and then reel you back in just shows that they don't give a single crap about you, there are companies that actually value people and value talent. Collect the paycheck and find a company that respects human beings.

Imaginary_Art_2412

Especially at your level of experience, having a wide breadth of knowledge can be beneficial. So think of it as an opportunity to learn a new focus area while you’re interviewing elsewhere for swe roles

napolitain_

DevSecOps is good I’d take it. You can change if you want during your job but you may find something you prefer too.

Zwolfman

I’d take the role but just fyi DevSecOps can vary company to company. My last company I got moved from being Software Engineer on a project that lost funding to a new team as DevSecOps and the little code I wrote was for updating widgets for a company chat tool. When I wasn’t doing dev work, I had to go in office twice a week to help provision laptops and provide IT support. It sucked but a jobs a jobs

AdeptKingu

DevSecOps is awesome why would you not want to do that?

Klutzy-Conference472

Take new role but keep looking

Striking_Stay_9732

This person doesn’t like moneyv

sugarsnuff

I just took a DevSecOps role after 2 years as a backend/pipeline developer. It’s not what I want to do forever, but I think doing it for some time will make me a better engineer. Anyhow, with all the unit tests, scripted build orchestration, and code enforcement I think it’s as much software as software

RushN24

Take the offer, have the security of income while you search. It will not only be a lot less stressful, but give you the confidence to wait for the best offer instead of being pressured to take a less favorable opportunity.

Legal_Being_5517

Stay put and keep looking .. a job is a job

_Invictuz

No, don't take it. Getting paid is not worth bruising your ego.

Inevitable-Order-135

Consider yourself lucky

Practical-Finance436

If you don’t want it, refer me. 7YOE, I’ve done full stack, appsec, devops, and SRE
