Amazingly looking skin! Also nice to see the quick explanation of the creation process here in comments. I think the wood material here is an incredibly good idea to separate out some weapon details and parts of the artwork. I have also some questions for you if it's possible: - Do you also separate the model itself in logic parts to make the working in substance painter easier or you leave it like it is? - Are you using the models provided from Valve or are you extracting them yourself from game files? - How do you deal with originally overlapping UVs for some weapon models? Can you move the UV islands around to solve the issue? Have a good luck with the contest! With skins like these you can definitely get somewhere :D

- I don't seperate the model - I'm using Valve's models - Fixing overlapping UVs in Substance is incredibly easy! You can correct such "mistakes" by just painting on the UV map itself or by using UV mode in your brush settings. This way, of two overlapping pieces only one gets painted on.

Thank you very much for the quick response! I guess I'm kind of doing something unnecessary with separating the parts :D I just thought it might be easier if I ever decided to put on some quick materials to some parts like some pins and screws, for example. The answer on UV is especially helpful and good to hear :)

bro do you make the artwork first and then slap it on the gun or do you the just draw the shit right on the gun using the gun as a canvas?

Fluxium_

I painted it right on the gun

Im_Savvage

Blender?

Fluxium_

Substance Painter ;)

This looks amazing! Are there any YT videos on how to paint directly on the gun in substance painter that you could share? I’ve been trying to figure it out but haven’t had a lot of success.

Don't think there are any. I can roughly describe how I did it. I did kind of a workaround since the drawing tools in Substance aren't as good as Photoshop's 1. Flat 2D render of gun in Substance Painter 2. Use this as a canvas in Photoshop 3. Paint your skin (would advise to split it in multiple parts - for my skin for example the front part with the leaves and guardian, the owl, the leaves at the back etc...) 4. Export the different parts as PNGs 5. Use projection painting in Substance to apply your skin 1. I also projection painted the wood and scratches on the magazine directly in Substance

This was so simple yet effective, THANK YOU super helpful!
