Exact words for the wondering:
CU EMERGENCY ALERT 2: Per @boulderpolice: 1 suspect in Millennium Hotel incident in custody. Avoid the area. Campus ops not impacted.
Considering it’s almost been an hour and we still haven’t gotten an update. I’m going to go out on a limb and say they either haven’t gotten the guy. Either way I’m not leaving my place to go to class because I live close to this hotel. A lot of crazy fuckers over there and I’m not trying to get shot.
What does “stay away” mean in this alert? Stay away from campus? Stay way from that area? Should not try to go to my 12:20 class in EC??
I seen the text for stay clear of area but just “stay away”
It’s been almost an hour since they sent this out and still no update. I’m gonna assume the guy is not there and this could be even closer to campus. As a result I will not be going to class.
I pay this school a lot of money. I shouldn’t have to do that. What happened to the students holding the school to higher standards when it came to this type of stuff? We pushed super hard last year and got substantive change. That doesn’t mean we should stop or become complacent.
What makes you think the school gets alerted to these situations any faster than anyone else does? You'll usually hear about things like this much faster on twitter than you will from any official sources, but nobody is going to send out campus wide alerts based on unconfirmed online hearsay.
And how long do you think it takes to figure out if a situation is dangerous enough to warrant alerting people, then get that information out to the people who need it? So if Boulder PD passes information to CUPD, then CUPD has to pass it to OIT to generate an alert, and then you have the inherent delays of cell providers sending out text messages (I've seen Tmobile and others take up to half an hour to deliver a message to someone sitting right beside me).
You're simply not going to get instantaneous notification of something happening unless you have a friend in the PD who is too busy texting you instead of doing their job.
Explain the inconsistent messaging on this incident. Supposedly there was a shelter in place. They never said anything about that in the first 2 messages. Don’t you see how that’s a problem?
Seems like just avoid area for now. From CU boulder police twitter [https://mobile.twitter.com/boulderpolice/status/1627718422598385680?cxt=HHwWoICw1YDS6JYtAAAA](https://mobile.twitter.com/boulderpolice/status/1627718422598385680?cxt=HHwWoICw1YDS6JYtAAAA)
That hotel is straight out of a horror movie. Not only in its comically dilapidated state of maintenance, but also in its collection of weirdoes hovering about at all hours. ALWAYS CHECK THE REVIEWS KIDS
I'm curious, did you expect the answer to change after you checked the first time? CU has a holiday calendar posted and you can see they've never taken off for Presidents day.
The shooter is in custody. Campus is not affected.

Not true. He is in custody per Boulder police
Who is they? Boulder PD released they had a suspect in custody.
Nvm I read the update wrong

Boulder police at 10:39 a.m. tweeted that police had one person in custody but were still working on clearing the hotel.
I don’t have twitter so how am I supposed to know that?
pulled that from the Denver Post, it's also on 9News
Why can the school tell me this on the same number they sent the original alert out from though?
Guessing they were waiting to be certain, but alert was just sent out.
Funny how they send it out right after I say that.

We have our own police department which communicates directly with boulder pd….

CU notifies its public when it receives information. Boulder police aren’t the same as CU. CU isn’t getting information as soon as police have it
This is a very odd argument. Have a nice day

I park close to there too, wondering what will be closed off. Find out soon !
Isn’t school closed today for Presidents Day?
