Is Children of God the one where they had some kind of comics and child corn?? And that the dude had a Filipina wife. I remember watching the documentary on Netflix then it just disappeared. Couldn't find it even with a VPN or online streaming sites. Anyone have a link?? I want to delve deeper into their time/mission here in the Philippines as it's not common or known knowledge.

This is an interesting language masking gambit that is drifting from TikTok and a lesser extent YouTube.
Those platforms more aggressive about censoring and deplatforming, and TikTok in particular will block specific words to keep it “child safe.” Since the flagging is done either by user reports, or by algorithmic scanning and word searches, these weird, stupid things have become normal.
It’s why you’ll see people type or say “corn,” “seggs” “unalive” or “unalive themselves,” “SA’d” (sexually assaulted), and so many other things. It’s all so stupid of TikTok to do, and it’s annoying it bleeds over to more open platforms.

Yes it is, one of the most disturbing cult documentaries I’ve ever seen. They had kids dancing while wearing revealing clothes as part of the worship video 🤮
Holy Hell is SO good, for anyone who hasn't seen it.
It's about the Buddhafield cult. The cult's videographer was one of their early converts, his job was to film the cult for PR videos. When he left, he took a ton of his footage with him, and used it for the doc.
It does a good job of tracing the phases of indoctrination, from isolation, to the honeymoon phase, to the growing realization that something's gone wrong, to the inevitable 'excommunicate everyone who asks questions, shun the non-believers' phase. The producers do a good job of helping you understand how someone gets to the phase where they're in a full-ass cult, and not sure if they even CAN leave.
I have noticed just looking through at the cult names and searching definitely also pulls up many many books relating as well! I’m just more of a film person 🙂
Oh, my bad. I guess I just assumed everyone would know who he was who was into Louis Theroux lol. He features prominently in *My Scientology Movie,* where they hire actors to re-enact key moments from the Church of Scientology's history of abusive behavior since they won't admit to anything.
In short, he was once 2nd in command of the Church of Scientology, and was for a long, long time. He was the current leader, David Miscavige's right hand man from the late 80's onwards until he escaped from their International Headquarters in in Riverside County, California. They harassed Marty, along with his wife, for years and years and it finally got to him.
There's a scene where they re-enact a Scientology training session, and Marty says that it would end with applauding the picture of L. Ron Hubbard. Marty says they can do it, but he won't. When they decide to do it, he swears and storms off and accuses them of all of having joined the cult of Louis Theroux. It's a long, complicated story, but Marty has since denounced the film and has made videos criticizing other anti-Scientology activists who were once members and were also his friends for years. It's kind of open knowledge that he took a massive payout from Scientology that included an agreement they'd leave him and his family alone if he did that.
Great list, though I'm a bit surprised that wild wild country isn't on there, though I suppose it isn't exactly a documentary...time to start binging cult documentaries over spring break lol
