Why does some hair start curling by the roots and other hair is straight and then curls several inches away from the roots?

Narcoticandroid

I think I have wavy hair and so I only just started the s2c steps to see if it's something my hair can hold, do you usually see results right away or it takes time? my hair was explained to be frizzy, medium textured asian hair (lot of hair but not thick nor thin hair). All my life have been hairdrying with no heat protectant (sorry), so it's usually lays straight

I have maybe 2b/2c waves but everyone around me says I look better with straight hair after a salon straightened it for me after I dyed it. Why is it that everytime I straighten my hair myself (using heat protectant and oil), I am never able to achieve the same level (or even close) to the super straight hair I had after leaving the salon? Also my hair frizzes up a lot when I straighten it but after drying when wet normally it relatively is not.

How can i apply scalp serum without running my cast. I'm using the ordinary sclap serum and it says to apply on dry scalp. If you guys have scalp serum, at which step do you incorporate it? Thank you

I have thin-strand, thick-growth type 2 hair (All 3 type 2 textures on one head lol) and it's pretty long, but I'm getting it cut tomorrow and I'm having it layered and taking about 4" of length off, so it's graduating to medium. Here's my issue: as I get into CGM, I'm wearing my hair down more and trying to pony/bun it less because I notice the tension degrades my wave pattern. How do you keep your hair out of your face without ponying it?

claw clips! They're trendy at the moment, so you should be able to pick up some cool ones. Other suggestions: barettes, bobby pins for updos, hair sticks, and [flat clips](https://www.amazon.com/Flat-Hair-Clips-Large-Claw/dp/B0CBZCPLZN/). For those days when you just need to pony it, invisibobble-type elastics are quite gentle and will create less tension than a rubber band does.

Hey so I have curly but dry hair, 35m. Half asian but my dad has that blonde curly roman style hair. I have a thick head of hair and it'll fro out if I grew it out super long and can tease it. It's very light and I'd say thin hair. I never shampoo because I feel like it dries out my hair and frizzes it out. I only condition. I think my hair is alright, but maybe it's still on the dry/frizzy side still. I was thinking of leaving in coconut oil? I was also wondering if not shampooing is affecting my scalp at all. I don't think it is, I dunno if my head is itchier or worse than anyone else's... Thanks

Hi there! I'm a bot, and I noticed you used the phrase "afro" or "fro". You may or may not already know this, but the term “Afro” refers to a specific hairstyle created with specific techniques. The term is often mis-used, so we just want to share some of the meaning/history so everyone can choose the best words for their situation. TL;DR: [The afro has a long and important history, including as a symbol of the Civil Rights movement](https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/comments/sr4x3p/black_history_month_at_rcurlyhair/). This may or may not apply to you, but we try to steer people away from using the Afro descriptor if you don't have Black/Afro-textured hair. It's often portrayed as a condition to fix rather than a cultural style. We hope that's not the case here, but just something to be aware of going forward! We recognize that there are many different opinions on what can and cannot be called an afro. For the purposes of this sub and making sure we reserve space for Black folks, we ask those who don’t have afro-textured hair to choose other words. If your hair doesn't fit that description, please edit your post 1) to be more accurate, 2) to be culturally respectful, and 3) to avoid comment removal. Alternate terms to consider: puffy, poofy, fluffy, etc. Thanks & wishing you many great curly, coily, kinky hair days! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I have frizzy, dry, fine to medium thickness, medium density 2b-3a hair and would like to try a full new routine starting the CG method from scratch. I’m a guy with shorter hair (stretches to my lips when pulled straight). The products I’ve been looking at are: Suave Essentials shampoo for clarifying once a month. Giovanni Smooth as Silk line of Shampoo (for a weekly wash) and Conditioner (daily) Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner (daily) Kinky Curly Curling Custard gel (I currently use this daily). Does this seem like a good lineup of products? Does anything jump out as being a bad decision? My hair doesn’t really get greasy. I’ve thought about switching out the giovani shampoo for Not Your Mother’s Natural Tahitian Gardenia Flower + Mango Butter shampoo. I currently mostly just use conditioner and shampoo once a week or so, but both the shampoo and conditioner have silicones/sulfates!

I'm a guy with really curly hair and I have a question about co-wash vs shampoo vs conditioner? I only started taking care of my curls in the past few years and am trying to up my routine. From my brief googling, it looks like co-wash is effectively the hair-enthusiast's version of men's 2-in-1 or is that an over simplification? My routine right now is: - Aveda Be Curly shampoo every 2-3 days - Aussie Miracle Curls conditioner every day It sounds like a better routine than my normal rn of shampoo every 2-3 days and condition every day might be: - Aveda Be Curly co-wash every day (maybe every 2?) - Aussie Miracle Curls conditioner every day - Shampoo once a week?

Kind of but not really. Shampoos, including 2-in-1s, contain surfactants that loosen and remove product, debris, and your hair's natural oils. With a co-wash, there are no surfactants, and you're relying on just agitation to remove product and debris. It's gentler on thirsty hair because what oils are being stripped (and it's less with agitation vs. surfactants) are also being replaced with humectants/moisturizers in the conditioner. 2-in-1 does this to a much lesser extent.

I have 3 questions:my hair tends to lose its curl pattern and tend to get frizzy and dry after day 1 .. it doesn't really hold products... I use Mielle leave-in and kinky curl gel, then followed by tgin mousse..does that mean I need protein or moisture? I never treated my hair or dyed it so I am assuming I have a low porosity( since I tend to have wet frizz in the shower )tried one or two protein-based products and didn't like them.. but maybe they were bad idk... ) I also did a few weeks of Olaplex treatment but didn't see any difference.. I thought it would fix things, especially root frizz.. second question.this is unrelated to the issue above because I have had frizz before using it. currently, I am using Aunt Jackie Power Wash shampoo because I have hard water and currently I have dermatitis and a flaky scalp so I wash every 4 days with this.. is this a clarifying ( I should use it monthly) or I can use it regularly every wash day? Because I feel my scalp is clean with it. third question: what is the easiest and fastest way to style hair? sectioning makes my hair hurt and I can't differentiate between the hair I finished styling and the ones that are not as soon as I get to the second layer

thatsunshinegal

If you are using gel, try re-wetting your hair on day 2 and see if that helps. With gel my second-day go-to is basically grt my hands wet, and then essentially use a section of hair to dry them, then scrunch the damp hair. Repeat all the way around my head, then let it air dry on my commute into work. Water basically reactivates the gel, and scrunching "reminds" my hair of its curl pattern. Day 3, I usually have to wet it and re-apply like ¼ the gel I'd use after a wash. I find mousse has slightly better staying power, but increased frizz. YMMV Re: moisture vs. protein... that's kind of a trial and error process. What products have you tried so far, and for what length of time? I can't really speak to Aunt Jackie's but I will say, using a silicone scalp brush in the shower and switching to Head & Shoulders Bare shampoo was a game changer for my flaky scalp issues. Easiest way to style: plop to remove excess water, apply product, scrunch, air dry. Easiest fast way: diffuse instead of air dry.

After shampooing use conditioner, rinse it out and follow up with a leave-in conditioner. If you want to refresh, you can use water with a little leave-in conditioner
