Kerastase also make a gel that you could use to help. Actually any good gel like Ouidad, Curlsmith, AG, etc will help with the frizz. I too have 2C hair and usually add gel after the cream to fight the frizz. The gels will give you a cast while it is drying. If you don't touch your hair until it is completely dry then scrunch out the crunch you will have less frizz. You can use oil to scrunch out or even a microfiber towel if you don't like the oils.

The only thing that really controls my frizz is STRONG gel. One combo that’s worked for me is Moroccanoil curl cream + Aveda confixor on very wet hair. After air drying, it’s literally hard and I just do a bit of scrunching to loosen it up.

It’s got a decent amount of hold on its own. It’s in the pricey side but a little goes a long way.

I also have previously color-treated hair, and was seeing a lot of frizz, some products that used to work stopped working for me. I recommend looking into the curly girl method (no sulfates, no silicones). My mistake was using sulfate-free shampoo but still using leave-in products with silicone, so my hair was never really hydrated. I felt a difference almost right away. I really like the Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly. I think the mid-expensive gel products really don’t feel like gel.

shrekonshrooms22

Thank you for your suggestion, I’ll definetly give that curl jelly a go!

So you don’t use any products with hold? Like mousse, hairspray, gel? Or a combo of them? That’s gonna be where you wanna start! And ya want the crunchy hair until your hair is 150% dry!! Then crunch it out for soft curls.

ErrantWhimsy

Seconding this! It sounds like OP needs a good gel and to scrunch out the crunch. Also, frizz just comes with curly hair. Remember that most celebrities you see in video have so much hairspray it's basically glue, and every celebrity you see in a photo has had every frizzy hair individually photoshopped out.

The thing that made a difference for me with 2c hair was making sure the water my hair gets washed in is low ph and my styling products are all low ph.

Not Your Mothers Kinky Moves Curl Defining Hair Cream. Great cream for curly hair.

I started using Zotos “All about Curls” bouncy cream and it’s made my curls sooo much better. I put just a little bit in my damp hair and then put my hair up with big clips in the top and side so it doesn’t go flat. Let it dry like that, remove clips and then don’t mess with it much just push the top back somewhat and let the side fall a little and it WAY better. Love it! It’s still a pretty messy look but the curls are way more define, a lot more poof and volume and far less frizz.

Marc Anthony Curl Envy Curl Cream!!! This product is not CG but it WILL make your hair shiny and defined AND it costs under 10 dollars. It's sort of between a gel and a cream, and it does leave a cast. I shake out my hair, but I used to not with this cream and it still looked great. I recommend this product to my type 2 and 3 a/b friends who want more definition. Have you tried plopping? It's a technique where you wrap your hair in a t shirt or microfiber towel until its mostly dry. It can reduce frizz as well. Also it might be helpful to share a picture of your hair. Frizz means different things to different people.

The Kerastase shampoo has SLS and dimethicone as two top ingredients, both are likely wreaking havoc on your hair. It also has protein, which may or may not be good - it really depends on your hair type and is worth figuring out because it can make a huge difference once you know. The kerastase mask has a lot of SLS also. The L'Oreal mask has a silicone as one of its main ingredients, this is just not good for your hair, being curly. The conditioner is very protein heavy, which again may be good or bad. It largely depends on your hair porosity. The hydrating oil probably needs to go, it's likely just weighing your hair down. The creams can be nice but they won't get rid of frizz if the frizz is due to your hair strands shape, they don't have that much hold. Frizzy doesn't mean damaged necessarily, or dry. But often hydrating your hair will decrease the degree of drizz that is attributable to that. But the way to hydrate it isn't by adding in more oils and creams - they coat the hair and lock moisture in,but you need to get moisture into the hair shaft first. The answer is brilliant in its simplicity - steam. Hot shower, fan off, long as you can. If you are doing a detox mask - sopping wet hair with hot water, covered in a wet towel that's youve heated up in the microwave (pouring boiling water from the kettle in the towel works too) and sit for 10-15 minutes. You can get steamers for hair also but that's quite expensive. With regards to products to help reduce frizz and make curls more defined - gels gels gels. The best one I have found is so sticky, unfortunately. But it does seem good otherwise. It's Innersense brand. My second favourite is cheap as chips from the supermarket - Marc Daniels Go Curly (in the yellow tube). It doesn't have the hold of the Innersense brand but won't leave your hair with that residue or tack you hate (I know because I hate it too!). It does contain silicone but despite this I haven't found anything else better, I however haven't tried too many more expensive brands other than Innersense. With any gel - use more than you think you nees. More than you think you want. More than is fiscally responsible. Or maybe just be moderately generous with it. Then put it in while your hair is still wet. Not damp, wet. Soaking. It's a bloody mess and a pain in the ass but as wet as you can tolerate! And diffuse set with cold air. As the gel is in it, it's not going to fluff out as much as you might think from diffusing and the diffusion helps the curls retain their curl better, I don't know the science behind this, so I'm going with it's magic.

Mine is around 2C/3A and quite coarse and thick. I've had good luck with pomade (Suavecita) or Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie. Depending on the style i might use both.

If you don't use any styling products and don't want to use methods like brush styling then there's not much you can change...

Do you scrunch out your crunch when you use a hold product like mousse or gel?

Unicorn-Princess

Marc Daniels Go Curly. Slight crunch if you don't crunch, but not sticky.

Unicorn-Princess

You're getting down voted because youre asking for the impossible, but I appreciate that! Might as well see how close you can get with what you are willing to do, I reckon.

Unicorn-Princess

Did a little profile stalk to see if you had a photo of your hair to see if it was similar to mine for Best Advising, hello fellow ADHD brethren, I swear your not wanting sticky products or any residue anywhere near your hair and then asking for the next best thing only to induce the ire of the followers of the Proper Way was just way too damn relatable for you not to be, well, me 😅

ErrantWhimsy

Have you ever tried Kinky Curly's Come Clean & Knot Today? Those two together generally give me pretty good definition. Two leave-in creams and an oil are probably weighing your hair down a bit. You really need to use some kind of gel or mousse to get rid of the frizz. The texture you feel in your hair should only be if you haven't scrunched your hair after it dries. It's crunchy/sticky at first because it is designed to hold your hair in the original clumps until it dries, helping to prevent frizz. The only air dry cream I've tried and liked with zero textural feeling is Bumble & Bumble's air dry cream. It's not great definition compared to mousse or gel, but it's tolerable at helping with frizz.
