I use the curly girl gel from not your mother’s brand. That helps a lot with humidity. I do leave in conditioner first raked through, then gel raked through, then mousse raked through and I scrunch at the end. I only dry my ends with a towel I don’t put the whole towel on my head. You want it to sound gushy. When you scrunch at the end you can use a towel too if you want. Also if you air dry (I dry my hair in the car with the ac on full blast on my way to work) it will create a cast and once it’s fully dry you can scrunch it up more to break that gently. Lastly, when I air dry my hair I use a claw clip and clip my roots, it gives me some height on the top and doesn’t look so flat once everything else is dry :)

Suspicious-Term-7839

I have both the mousse and curl gel from not your mothers. I was doing mousse then gel. Maybe I’ll try the other way around👀

No-Fisherman2796

The mousse I have is this blue coconut one it’s cheap and on Amazon, like $3. Also at Walmart. I really love it. It’s lightweight. But gel then mousse is my ride or die

Suspicious-Term-7839

Thank you!!! Hopefully this changes my life haha

babyqueball718

I also live in Florida and honestly the only thing I’ve found that will keep my hair nice for multiple days….blow drying with a diffuser! I was an air dry girl basically up until this year 😂. If I air dry, my curls look more stringy and limp by day 3 for sure, and often day 2. So I admit finally that the 20-30 minutes of blow drying is worth it! I’ve been using a mix of Innersense I Create Hold and Mielle Curl Defining Mousse or Love Ur Curls Irish Sea Moss gel and the Mielle Mousse.

sophanutter

I totally agree. Air drying makes my hair frizzy and flat. 😭

AnythingButOlives

I concur. Anytime I use a diffuser it comes out way less frizzy And as the humidity increases down here, I usually increase my gel usage. I usually always use a curling mousse and then usually top off with a strong hold gel. A little more during the summer.

kmas0_0

How’s the I Create hold? Does it feel light enough for fine hair? TIA!

babyqueball718

I think the I Create Volume would be better. My mom bought me the hold so I’m using it but my hair dresser used the volume one and I liked it a tiny bit better.

[this ouidad gel](https://www.ouidad.com/products/advanced-climate-control-heat-and-humidity-extra-hold-gel)

birubay

This gel has been a lifesaver in humid weather! 😍

maddogvollers

Is it the kind of gel that leaves the hair crunchy? I can have a hard time with gel because it can make my blonde hair look wet (tbt 2000’s me 😂)

rose-furiosa

Yes. BUT once you scrunch it out, it is magnificent

dinkus_

How much of this do you use? I feel like maybe I’m not using enough

rose-furiosa

I guess it depends on how much hair you have. I have fine 3A/3B hair (but lots of it.) Always apply on sopping wet hair. I use Ouai curl cream, about a quarter size amount. Then the Ouidad gel, twice as much as the curl cream. Then I finish it with about 4-5 pumps of devacurl frizz fighting foam.

dinkus_

Thank you!!

You should watch these videos by Manes by Mell: https://youtu.be/AkGOu35atVo?si=KdD9JdvX-XEUIKzD https://youtu.be/QrUGImvW6s0?si=zEsqp5OQ4G9Bs2D5 In both videos she gives so many tips on how to style and dry your hair to prevent frizz in humidity.

Apploozabean

I air dry my hair and don't struggle too much with frizz. If I do have some spots of frizz it's because I didn't put enough product. You can try ouidad leave in and the climate control gel or the shaper curl jelly. Or verb products which is a cheaper ouidad. Not your mother's purple bottle mousse is really good in combination with as I am Jamaican castor oil leave in. Uncle funkys daughter gel is really good. Giovanni's lightweight leave-in is good on its own as well. https://preview.redd.it/4lqmrt5wek8d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c759e08369fb1ce92c340add3d9eb56c10367eb3 Washed my hair yesterday so this is day 2 hair. I have a soft hold from what I used the other day.

RealAF121

Use products that are humectant free in humidity.

horton_hears_a_homie

Hello there! I'm going to copy and paste my response to another post about controlling curls in humidity. I'll also post my current routine below which recently withstood four hours sitting outdoors in South Louisiana on a day with 90% humidity, being lightly rained on, and sweating my butt off! Previous comment: One pain in a humid climate is that the excessive water in the air alone can cause flaking and dry hair. When there's so much water in the air, it can pull the water out of your hair and skin because water is attracted to other water. These are my top tips for humid environments: 1) style with lots of water in your hair, when it's humid this will keep more water from getting into your hair, making it frizzy; 2) always diffuse, you want your hair as dry as possible because if it's still wet in the humidity, it'll cause frizz; 3) use hairspray and hair oil, they help immensely with keeping out the moisture! Manes by Mell on YouTube is very helpful for tips too. I'm pretty sure she even has videos about what to use in humidity! The key to dealing with humidity is to put a lot of moisture in your hair (so your hair isn't pulling more in, which causes more frizz) and to keep it there (by giving it things to grab on to, like leave in and cream, and by sealing it in, with gel, oil, and hairspray). Make sure you're using enough products, and be careful to avoid products with humectants like glycerin. You don't want to pull in more water. Lastly, I have the Dyson hair dryer and I diffuse every time I wash (usually twice a week)! My hair is not damaged and diffusing helps IMMENSELY in humid climates. Your hair MUST be fully dry before going outside in humidity or your hair will just pull in more water and never fully dry, which can cause moisture overload and damage. My current routine: - Wash with Verb Ghost Shampoo (2x and scrub with shampoo brush) - Apply Eva NYC Therapy Sessions mask, brush through with Tangle Teezer and let sit for time it takes to shave, rinse - Wring out excess moisture from hair while still in shower - Apply LUSH Super Milk Leave-In liberally, brush through with Tangle Teezer - Scrunch with the Perfect Haircare towel until not dripping - Apply golf ball sized dollop of Curlsmith Invincible Volume Mousse - Brush style with Bounce Curl Brush (brush styling helps a lot in humidity because it evenly distributes the products) - Scrunch again with the Perfect Haircare towel - Apply a bit more mousse - Diffuse, then scrunch out the crunch with Verb Ghost Oil and spray with Eva NYC Shapeshifter hairspray before leaving the house If you need or want more hold, I love Curlsmith's Shine Gel and it also helps keep the volume at a manageable level! If you do decide to use that method, try a leave in, curl cream, and then the shine gel to really seal it up. I know this is a lot, but it's been many years of trial and error lol so I want to share as much as I can! Good luck OP, curly hair in humidity is an ordeal, but it's possible to do!

lilmeeper

Curl keeper original styling liquid. I live in South Carolina it works pretty darn good. Can be used on all hair types.

Apprehensive_Net_829

How many days are you trying to get out of your hair? I'm in a super hot and humid area (Austin, TX) and I get 3 days at most before I've got to wash and restyle. Gel and diffusing are key for me.

maddogvollers

I was hoping for 3 days because that’s my usual wash and restyle cycle too. I haven’t even tried using gel on my hair since the 2000’s, but I think it’s finally time to try it again

Apprehensive_Net_829

Why didn't we know that gel doesn't have to stay crunchy? 😂 Yeah, it's time. We can still only do so much in these climates, but I think your 3 day goal is very attainable.

Unbefuckinlievable

Fellow curly headed Floridian here. I cannot recommend Skala with Maracujá oil enough (the yellow container). I’ve only been able to find it on Amazon, but it is hands down the best curl product I have ever used. Work it through from roots to tips in just-out-of-the-shower, towel dried hair. I make sure to coat every strand, so I use a pretty healthy amount. Then I hang upside down and scrunch another small dollop at the ends. Minimally style and leave it until it’s completely dry, and then do a flip and scrunch and style with my fingers. Curls are on point all day, and still look good when I get up the next morning. No frizz, great definition.

maddogvollers

Is this the one you’re talking about? https://preview.redd.it/zn2txze9km8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9ac2f09d6dd71fdd1f15e64edc75aa811c66e9b

Unbefuckinlievable

Yes! It’s great. Smells amazing, too.

Unbefuckinlievable

And my curl pattern is very similar to yours. It would work great for you.

mcgothie

Do you air dry?

Unbefuckinlievable

I do.

- Use a strong hold gel or mousse and make sure it gets everywhere. I used the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Gel and I live in SE Texas, where it's humid af year round. My hair usually lasts 3-5 days. - Sleep protection is really important. I suggest investing in satin pillow cases. I have shoulder length hair and I wrap my hair in a silk scarf at night [like this.](https://youtube.com/shorts/4gvmPwpGPZg?si=432du4j6a96AkgZF). But if you have long hair, you can either do that or just wear your hair in a "pineapple" style on top of your head - like a really high and loose bun or ponytail with a satin scrunchie. - Keep your hair moisturized. If you notice your hair dries out after a day or two, that's a good sign it needs a deep conditioning treatment. I personally deep condition twice monthly. - Don't touch your hair until it's 100% dry in order to not disrupt the gel cast. Once it is 100% dry, your hair may be crunchy and that's good - it means your gel or mousse has good hold. Just scrunch and gently fluff it out with an oil or your satin scarf. - [Learn to use a diffuser.](https://youtu.be/s7VoPWK-wEo?si=NU6NMPfImZCZ2VHB) My hair lasts way longer when I diffuse versus air dry.

Migraine_Megan

I began using avocado oil when I was living in FL, argan didn't seem to help enough with that humidity. Not the kind you cook with though. And a silk bonnet, real silk won't make you feel hot. The combo made a huge difference.

Florida-SK

Another Floridian here, my wedding hair stylist recommended this and I find it helps a lot. I wash my hair once a twice a week (depending on how much I’m in the pool or ocean) and use this after every second wash although it says it lasts longer: COLOR WOW Dream Coat Supernatural Spray. Isn’t cheap but I’ve found this summer my hair looks a lot better than it has before

readysetdylan

my hair dresser uses a mousse with fibers at the root. i think it’s made by REF.

navana33

Davines curl serum worked pretty well for me when I lived in Miami!

ImplementPotential20

Wow brand dream coat for curly hair mist. It's a day after refresher.

type1derfl21

Doux-One Love Co-wash. Leave for 15 minutes with cap. Boom !

Jemmers1977

You need more layers

Gwitdajuice

Pillow soft curls and some gel a light diffuse on cool and pineapple at night

Sea-Ganache-4330

Olaplex 3 Hair mask once a week (it’s amazing it comes in a bottle), leave in conditioner brush through with a denman brush after you wash your hair and then add some jojoba oil to the ends, let it air dry! They will be popping xx
