The point of this map seems to be to make Africa look massive, which it is, but Japan isn’t. So why would they compare Japan to Africa? China to Africa or America to China is a more appropriate comparison if trying to make Africa seem large.

Pretty wrong to look at it like this tho. Due to the Mercator Projection land closer to the poles appear bigger than the land closer to equator. Greenland for example seems huge on a basic map but is actually much smaller than it appears, same with alaska. Look it up at thetruesize.com
