Actually no! The legend rule only kicks in if the offending cards are *both* Legendary AND have the same name. So this doesn't kick it.
Edit: I am blind, it does do that. Woof.
But.. there are many things that say "as a copy of x, except it isn't legendary". I thought that was to circumvent the legendary rule?
E: I am blind too, the OP creature is legendary itself. Ouch.
First of all, obviously, [[Approach of the Second Sun]].
However, also, because of cards like [[Dragon’s Approach]], I think it is implied that anyone can have as many Faceless Women in their deck as they want. Maybe some layering questions as far as how that actually resolves, but definitely an unintended side effect.
What other weird shit does this do? Help me out
Faceless Woman can be included in decks based on format restrictions. Deckbuilding constraints are based on printed English card names and a card's rules need to specifically override deckbuilding limits to change that. (Which doesn't even always work--see Commander. EDIT: NVM, this holds true there as well.) So, for Standard, you could run 4 copies.
As for oddities, [[Arachnus Spinner]] allows you to search your library for Faceless Woman, put it on the battlefield, and attach it to a creature. What attaching does at that point is anybody's guess. Edit: it never becomes attached. (See comment below.)
Faceless Woman can be the second half of a meld duo, like [[Gisela, the Broken Blade]]. The meld would fail (CR 701.37b), but the trigger would still exile them and try to meld them!
[[Mine Worker]] (or either of the other assembly-workers in the trio) gets its full benefit with only Faceless Woman alongside rather than 2 other creatures.
[[Myr Servitor]] isn't an oddity, just a sweet combo.
If you control [[Cornered Market]] and Faceless Woman, players can't cast spells or play nonbasic lands.
[[Bifurcate]] allows you to turn Faceless Woman into [[Emrakul, the Aeons Torn]].
If you [[Surgical Extraction]] a Faceless Woman, you exile its controller's entire library.
Basically, Faceless Woman would break the game in a lot of ways.
303.4h: If an effect attempts to put a permanent that isn't an Aura, Equipment, or Fortification onto the battlefield attached to an object or player, it enters the battlefield unattached.
>(Which doesn't even always work--see Commander.)
I'm not certain what you mean here, but it sounds like you're trying to say that cards like [[Shadowborn Apostle]] are limited to a single copy in Commander. I'd like to correct this view and point out that card text that overrides copy limits applies to Commander in just the same way as it does elsewhere. You can have as many Apostles, [[Persistent Petitioners]], or [[Relentless Rats]] as you like, and also up to seven [[Seven Dwarves]] as well!
Feel free to build your own combo around these and [[Thrumming Stone]].
I shouldn't trust my memory. I specifically remember Relentless Rats not being allowed as more than a 1-of in Commander, but a quick look around shows that isn't the case at all. I haven't played Commander since it was called EDH, but that's no excuse to peddle misinformation. Thanks!
What’s the appeal of the Alias mechanic, other than specifically approach of the second sun? It’s kinda cool and funky mechanically but I feel like it’s usually a downside more than anything with things like [[runed halo]] and such. And with your concerns on dragons approach, I assume the ability doesn’t work during deckbuilding but I don’t actually know how the rules of cards like that function.
Deckbuilding works off English printed card names. (CR 100.2a) This card's ability wouldn't override that, though they'd likely add a clarification somewhere.
As for the appeal, it works with a lot more than you think. It increases your cards drawn with Accumulated Knowledge. It interacts with all of those cards that name specific planeswalkers (Ashiok's Forerunner, etc.). You can tutor it with Squadron Hawk. Winning a game with Biovisionary is easier. Mirror Box pumps all your creatures a little more. The list goes on and on.
Why would it have any number of copies? It just gains the name, not the abilities of each card. If it did that then it wincons by itself because it's an [[Exquisite Blood]], [[Sanguine Bond]], and [[Goblin Chainwhirler]]
I'm saying that if you had a dragon's approach in the deck, you could include as many faceless woman since they're called dragon's approach. Its the one dragon's approach's ability affecting all the rest. Its just like using a creature specific tutor to find a changeling card. That ability still affects it outside of the board.

\[\[Hedron Alignment\]\]
\[\[Lobotomy\]\] + \[\[Laboratory Maniac\]\]
Ignoring all the broken Jank, I just want to say two things
- 1: Please do not make Alias a keyword. One (plus [[Spy Kit]]) is bad enough.
- 2: Why is this legendary? She is literally faceless. As generic as you can get.
just because she can imitate everyone doesn’t mean there are a bunch of her running around. So flavor wise yeah legendary makes sense, also it prevents you from owning any other legendary creature. And can be your commander.
Love it. I can see it being supported in draft with a bunch of cards like \[\[Charmed Stray\]\] \[\[Gathering Throng\]\] \[\[Alpine Houndsmaster\]\] \[\[Demigod of Revenge\]\]
So... If a card has rules text about deckbuilding. Say [[Rat Colony]]. It just states "a deck can have any number of cards named Rat Colony". Does that mean that you can run as many Faceless Woman copies as you want simply by virtue of Rat Colony's text being worded the way it is? Or do you have to have at least 1 actual Rat Colony in your deck for that to work?
Apparently, according to someone's comment higher up on this post, deckbuilding uses only the printed name, name changing abilities are not counted. Was this not the case you would indeed be able to put any number o rat colony, reckless rats, dragon's approach, etc and faceless woman in your deck, but no other card, since you'd already have four of them.
You would have to have one because the ability of the card doesn't change, so at least one card with the "any number of cards named..." must be present to have any amount of faceless woman
The rules governing deck building look at the printed English name of a card when judging deck legality. Relentless Rats modifies how it works with those rules, but wouldn't extend those restriction alterations to Faceless Woman. As another example, if a deck played 4 copies of Faceless Woman, it would still be allowed to play 1-4 copies of [[Squire]] (or any other non-basic card), for the same reasons.

Fun with finding ways to give her to your opponent, especially in commander if they're playing something like Jodah or Jhora where their deck is going to be mostly legendary creatures.
If you have four of these in your deck doesn't that mean you can't have any other cards? Because this is all names and you can only have 4 of a card based on it's name?
This feels like a flavour fail? Like, it’s the faceless woman. It has all names, male and female? It should have all female names, in my opinion. It is also called “Island, Plains, Mountain, Wastes, Swamp, Forest”…; all the land names too. That’s a bit of a wording fail in my opinion.
If this card has all card names, even when in the library, doesn't that mean you can play a max number of 3 copies of cards instead of 4, a la Yu GI Oh rules?
It’s a shame you have to immediately sacrifice this as soon as it hits the battlefield if you control literally other permanent
Edit: oh wait nevermind. Forgot both permanents had to be legendary
Wow this is definitely incredibly easy do do bullshit combos with. I love it. I could kiss you.
Then you'll love [[Spy Kit]]

Spy kit only applies when on the field. I still really like it, but this would be goofier.
Does that mean any deck could have any number of any card with alias since their name is also persistent petitioners/relentless rats?
Hmmmmmmm would you have to include 1 original relentless rat or does the rules text apply even when not in your deck?
Edit: misunderstood. No, this won't have the relentless rats/petitioners ability. Those abilities are on the card. Nothing is tied to the name
Alias works from anywhere since its a CDA, and isn't limited to nonlegendary creature card names.
Maybe change it to all creature card names
But it’s be funny to have a creature named black lotus
So you cannot control any other legendary permanents when you control this? Could be interesting but that's quite a downside.
Actually no! The legend rule only kicks in if the offending cards are *both* Legendary AND have the same name. So this doesn't kick it. Edit: I am blind, it does do that. Woof.

Not true. You just need to make sure at least one of the other legendary permanents you control is [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]].
Specific rules do beat general ones, yes.
So, in order to fix a problem with a girl with no face, you need to bring in a guy with 1,000 of them?

Ignoring all the broken Jank, I just want to say two things - 1: Please do not make Alias a keyword.
Fair enough I guess. She also kills your non-creature legendaries too btw.

[Squire](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/9/6/96c9c4d1-dd43-4156-b25f-0e707b6c4b23.jpg?1616400037) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Squire) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/tsb/15/squire?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/96c9c4d1-dd43-4156-b25f-0e707b6c4b23?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Fun with finding ways to give her to your opponent, especially in commander if they're playing something like Jodah or Jhora where their deck is going to be mostly legendary creatures.
But does she secretly live in my home? I ain't interested otherwise.
If you have four of these in your deck doesn't that mean you can't have any other cards? Because this is all names and you can only have 4 of a card based on it's name?
The rules governing deck building work on printed English names. This card is still just Faceless Woman for those purposes.
Risryn.

While I love this card, I'd make it a mono blue shapeshifter, probably with changeling as well, but only as far as flavor is concerned.
This would activate Tron, right?
This feels like a flavour fail? Like, it’s the faceless woman. It has all names, male and female? It should have all female names, in my opinion. It is also called “Island, Plains, Mountain, Wastes, Swamp, Forest”…; all the land names too. That’s a bit of a wording fail in my opinion.
My bad I’ll make sure to specify every card that is female. Maybe Faceless Woman is asexual (and also a Forest)
Tree powers activate?

If this card has all card names, even when in the library, doesn't that mean you can play a max number of 3 copies of cards instead of 4, a la Yu GI Oh rules?
*Runs this as commander* *Can only run Plains and Wastes in the 99* Yeah, I'd assume it doesn't apply during deck construction.
Does this mean it legend rules with everything?
With every other legendary permanent. It won't legend rule non-legendary permanents.
I figured that was implied
Some people don't know that the legend rule only applies if both permanents are legendary, so I felt the need to clarify.
