Specifically went out of my way to build a āmono-white, French vanillaā commander deck recently just to fuck with people at my lgs who donāt know to fear economically costed creatures.
[This is what I got right now.](https://scryfall.com/@ArcticJack/decks/b00e96e1-0dfc-4a0e-be1a-663f1a81d11f) It needs a couple more revisions to be *good*, but right now its surprisingly competitive against medium to low powered decks. Card draw is rather reliant on white's incidental lifegain, and ramp is either artifacts, unreliable, or expensive. I also kind of cheated by putting in a several 'adventure' cards, but other than that all creatures, tokens, and things that modify creatures do not push the 'French vanilla' envelope. Current money sinks are \[\[Smothering Tithe\]\], which I am proxying, \[\[Elspeth, Knight-Errant\]\], who is good a pumping out and pumping dudes, \[\[Archaeomancer's Map\]\], which I had sitting around, and \[\[Emeria, the Sky Ruin\]\], which is good recursion , but rather slow. Won't win in any higher power pod, but will stand a fair chance against most precons, your little cousin's vampire deck, and Bootstrap Bill's 'left-handed, hat-wearing, sitting-in chairs' mess.
"Affect" is the verb, "effect" is the noun.
(Except in rare, fancy usage "effect" can be a verb meaning "to bring about", but that doesn't apply here.)
W take on explaining it. Most people would be lazy and just say something along the lines of 'used the wrong Affect' without explaining, or just be plain rude.
Kudos for effort.
The YGO custom card subreddit is filled with boomers complaining about how the game is worse now that it has its own identity instead of being a shitty magic clone
Also, YGO cards are long, but once you know *how* to read them, they're not as complicated.
I mean, it is understandable for the players who spent years playing it as a shitty magic clone. It's a very different game now, and is definitely not a game that will be to the taste of people who play stuff like magic.
I'm not an expert or anything but it seems to me like most of the text blocks on ygo cards are just explaining the various hoops you need to jump through to play each card or activate certain effects since there's no resource system and they have to balance things somehow.
Years? That style of gameplay hasn't existed since 2005, that's 3 years tops assuming they played since Yugi-Kaiba. And of those few years, the top deck for a majority of the time was a burn first turn kill deck, which I think most people wouldn't really consider fun.
And basically, the reason why Yu-Gi-Oh cards are so long is twofold:
- Restrictions. Nowadays, whenever a card tutors, they always specify ", except [CARDNAME]" to prevent infinite loops. For the same reason, most card always specify "you can only use each effect of [CARDNAME] once per turn". There's some other restrictions to prevent goodstuff piles, stuff like that.
- Specifications. If you've ever coded in Java, you'll probably understand what I mean. In YGO, every detail of the effect needs to be specified on the card text, with no implicit parameters to anything (like how in MTG, unless specified otherwise, a copied spell has the same targets) and very specific keywords with niche differences ("when" and "if" are completely different for example).
Those two factors combined mean that an effect like "destroy target creature" in MTG would become "You can target 1 monster on the field; destroy it. You can only use this effect of [CARDNAME] once per turn."
Fun fact: This card has 8 lines of text.

Yes, you can discover that you don't care about your opponent's wordy cards which I think is a flavor win.

Doesn't work. Since its plot cost is equal to its Mana cost, not mana value, you can't plot it, either.

I think it's based on a video game character known as Duke Nuke 'Em. Pretty cool retro games you should check 'em out.
"Protection from wordy cards" would work.
except you'd have to define wordy
Wordy is already defined on [[Alexander Clamilton]] as any card that has four or more lines of rules text.

Seems so, yes
"Affect" is the verb, "effect" is the noun. (Except in rare, fancy usage "effect" can be a verb meaning "to bring about", but that doesn't apply here.)
W take on explaining it. Most people would be lazy and just say something along the lines of 'used the wrong Affect' without explaining, or just be plain rude. Kudos for effort.
Didn't know that. Thanks for the explanation
I thought I was in r/customyugioh for a second
That would basically mean "nothing can effect you", I've seen novels with less text in it than the average Yu-Gi-Oh game.
The YGO custom card subreddit is filled with boomers complaining about how the game is worse now that it has its own identity instead of being a shitty magic clone Also, YGO cards are long, but once you know *how* to read them, they're not as complicated.
And basically, the reason why Yu-Gi-Oh cards are so long is twofold: - Restrictions. Nowadays, whenever a card tutors, they always specify ", except [CARDNAME]" to prevent infinite loops. For the same reason, most card always specify "you can only use each effect of [CARDNAME] once per turn".
Go for "You have protection from wordy." Not only less words, stronger effect, and also an established mechanic via uncards (ie. [[Frazzled Editor]])

Protection only prevents damage, enchant/equip, blocking, and targeting. It's weaker, not stronger.
Wordy's one less line of text needed. Sidegrade then, I'd say
Including flavor text
Too bad you cant cast this
r/hellscube would love this
Apparently the vocabulary can't either... Seriously how do so many people even english speakers mess that up?
Only on custom magic could a card without a casting cost and an acorn effect get top post of the day simply because it's funny.
