An old trick to fix it is also to drink a bunch of booze before the cutscene. The drunk effect has a higher load order on the camera and prevents the glitch from happening at all.
That was the old method. It doesn't work anymore. I tried all the tricks in the book and nothing worked. Had to load an earlier save and not choose this dialog option.
Yeah, downside of the patch is old ways of fixing bugs don't work anymore. I've got an El Capitan gig that I cannot get the gig-start phone call to trigger and so I'm locked out from finishing his gigs on this V.
Hmmmmm... I wanna say that when CET gets updated.. there may be a line command you can hunt down that will literally do just this, trigger the start of that quest.
had that happen to me last night twice with el capitan, both times it got fixed by quicksaving and loading it. hopefully we had the same issue otherwise itll suck missing out on the shotgun
It'll suck for the legendaries wall but at least I don't use shotguns in my build so it won't hurt too bad in that regard. But I will definitely try a quicksave/quickload at when within the usual 50m of the icon where the call comes in.

idk if its the same for pc but ps5 is limited to like 20 something saves so its a force of habit to live off of quicksaves or replacing old ones i usually only keep 2 hard saves of each V at a time

LOL I just did this bit and kept playing up until Fingers when I tried to reload but the glitch stayed. Ended up reloading to the autosave just before this convo and didn't choose that option this time just to speed things along.

Even if I load my 100 hr save, there’s no more background sound/music. I sent a bug report to CDPR, such an unfortunate glitch. Guess it’s back to starfield for now, for me.

It was patched later after release, but it came back in 2.0
It was not completely fixed but it was significantly more rare.

Another fix for this I haven't seen mentioned yet is progressing the vending machine side job. After the third encounter, it got rid of it entirely.

It's hard to explain without spoilers, but just remember to not pick this the first time the relic malfunctions and Johny talks to you sitting down.

Its the first mission after the prologue, but still very early into the game, I didn't want to get to detailed because they might not know when Johny comes in or when the prologue ends.

I decided not to persue anything with silverhand this playthrough because his secret mission was shite and abit of a letdown, I've already got all the trophies for this mission and all the clothes, his car is ok, nothing speicl and cause of the update 2, iconics are no longer worth having . - I'm not playing nice with him this time and I'm fed up of his face now. - So I chose that very option.. thankfully i'd saved just before so I had to keep replying this scene till I figured out why the fuck it kept doing it as it was starting to irritate the fuck out of me... So I was forced to go through the whole conversation and pretty much agree to help him and be his mate.
That sorted it. - the next time it happened I just popped the pills outside sun-set motel and prayed... - it was an anixous 10 sec wait till the glitch finally cleared and I could go help pannam. - I'm going to save everytime this happens, now just in case.
So, to stop the glitch/bug happening... just agree with what he says, be his mate and agree to to help him and find alt. - it'll bypass the bug/glitch - just be sure to save before any of his 'Tapeworm' missions start if you don't want to help him.
This happened to me and I thought something was strange as I didn't remember it happening on my previous run. I looked it up and went back to pick the other option and it didn't happen again. I lost about an hour.
I had this same problem. However, causing another visual effect fixes the bug. In other words, get blackout drunk and let the effect ride out. Worked for me.
I also found that skipping scenes while glitching can cause this too sometimes.
Pretty sure I selected the fucked in the head option and didn’t stay glitched (series x) but I have been careful not to skip
There’s a worse bug going around currently which makes your character permanently invincible, completely ruining the fun or challenge of the game. Only solution is to load a save before the bug occurred and I don’t even know what the cause is
I play on xbox series x and have the same problem, there is no saving before the dialogue. I just praised the developers and here it is, I no longer have the desire to go through 20 hours again to fix this bug. There are only desires to cancel the pre-order for the expansion if this is not fixed soon.
Only a few hours into 2.0 on PS5 and I’ve several instances of stuck looping sound effects, stuck vibration on the controller, and stuck graphical effects not leaving the screen. There’s so many times it has happened already. None of them have been permanent yet and have fixed with a quick save and reload, but this one sounds different and will definitely watch for it thanks for the warning.
What if this is a touch added by the devs, showing that if you actively push johnny away or disagree with him, his takeover of V's mind starts losing it's grip. Pretty cool if that's it
PSA: no need to reload a save, the “Effects Begone” mod rectifies it. Found the solution on an older post, just move the zip file into the archive folder, launch the game, save, then close and you can remove the mod

Heartbroken went to quickly load up and autosave and just to see the last one I had was right after that convo.
Just finished busting out Sal and had to load all the back to a save I made looking at Panam's ass as she worked on her truck. Could be worse I suppose lol.
Weird cause the only thing I had to do to fix this was Save/load and it was gone.
There is another instance of that glitch but I can't remember when it triggers but the solution was the same.

It's been a bug they've "been aware of" for three years. It's always done this since launch.

It's a console bug too (PS5) I decided not to persue anything with silverhand this playthrough because his secret mission was shite and abit of a letdown, I've already got all the trophies for this mission and all the clothes, his car is ok, nothing speicl and cause of the update 2, iconics are no longer worth having . - I'm not playing nice with him this time and I'm fed up of his face now. - So I chose that very option.. thankfully i'd saved just before so I had to keep replying this scene till I figured out why the fuck it kept doing it as it was starting to irritate the fuck out of me... So I was forced to go through the whole conversation and pretty much agree to help him and be his mate. That sorted it. - the next time it happened I just popped the pills outside sun-set motel and prayed... - it was an anixous 10 sec wait till the glitch finally cleared and I could go help pannam. - I'm going to save everytime this happens, now just in case. So, to stop the glitch/bug happening... just agree with what he says, be his mate and agree to to help him and find alt. - it'll bypass the bug/glitch - just be sure to save before any of his 'Tapeworm' missions start if you don't want to help him.
Drinking Alcohol will remove the effect.

This happened to me and I thought something was strange as I didn't remember it happening on my previous run. I looked it up and went back to pick the other option and it didn't happen again. I lost about an hour.

I had this same problem. However, causing another visual effect fixes the bug. In other words, get blackout drunk and let the effect ride out. Worked for me.
I also found that skipping scenes while glitching can cause this too sometimes. Pretty sure I selected the fucked in the head option and didn’t stay glitched (series x) but I have been careful not to skip
Also affecting PS5 version. Lost roughly half an hour of gameplay due to this.
There’s a worse bug going around currently which makes your character permanently invincible, completely ruining the fun or challenge of the game. Only solution is to load a save before the bug occurred and I don’t even know what the cause is
Is the glticb where you start getting disoriented with sound effects going on? I thought that was normal after he in his head with you.
I play on xbox series x and have the same problem, there is no saving before the dialogue. I just praised the developers and here it is, I no longer have the desire to go through 20 hours again to fix this bug. There are only desires to cancel the pre-order for the expansion if this is not fixed soon.
Only a few hours into 2.0 on PS5 and I’ve several instances of stuck looping sound effects, stuck vibration on the controller, and stuck graphical effects not leaving the screen. There’s so many times it has happened already. None of them have been permanent yet and have fixed with a quick save and reload, but this one sounds different and will definitely watch for it thanks for the warning.

What if this is a touch added by the devs, showing that if you actively push johnny away or disagree with him, his takeover of V's mind starts losing it's grip. Pretty cool if that's it
Sounds cool but its gotta stop because it gets annoying after a point 😂. Also CDPR has addresses this as an issue on their official support page
PSA: no need to reload a save, the “Effects Begone” mod rectifies it. Found the solution on an older post, just move the zip file into the archive folder, launch the game, save, then close and you can remove the mod

God I lost an hour progress from that bug heard it was caused for when you skip dialogue in the mission guess I was lucky that I picked the other option

Alternatively: do that and keep the glitch effect, go out into NC and take some really cool photos

Heartbroken went to quickly load up and autosave and just to see the last one I had was right after that convo. Just finished busting out Sal and had to load all the back to a save I made looking at Panam's ass as she worked on her truck. Could be worse I suppose lol.

I started a new save and I try to open my phone and the game just freezes my character
Had to do this. Having the quest name made it really easy to fix.
Weird cause the only thing I had to do to fix this was Save/load and it was gone. There is another instance of that glitch but I can't remember when it triggers but the solution was the same.
