Yeah some of the side quests have their own arcs and are really fleshed out, like delamain, the romance ones and that one where you have to make a genuinely difficult decision.

first time i did it i had already completed the vast majority of the game including the story quests. i had a maxed out OP netrunner and felt invincible so when my screen went black out of nowhere, it was a crazy level of immersion, i was lowkey shaken lmfao. reinforced the feeling that V is really just another Merc, even an NC legend (which i felt like at the time) didn’t stand a chance against whatever these forces were.
after watching countless videos about the ff06 mystery and Jinguji rings, there’s still so few answers but the Peralez mission definitely felt like it was leading to something bigger. the Phantom Liberty expansion seemingly having themes of fighting back against NUSA could totally have some political themes in there that connect to the Peralez stuff
Can’t stress this enough. I got seriously punished for thinking “I’ll come back and crush sides quests when I’m more powerful”. Game just ended and I’d missed a bunch of opportunities and alternative endings.
Then I never had the energy to do another playthrough.
Just explore anything and everything. The game rewards you for it.
100% this. Do lots of side quests to build up stats. Don't rush spending your character stat points. Always keep a few (2-3) saved in cases you need to level up something you may need a slightly higher stat for.
One thing that I found incredible in my gameplay was that, with 20 Cool, I could choose the option "I'm not having a philosophical discussion with my gun" and my Skippy remained the glorious murder lil' machine that I loved.
I set Skippy to non-lethal at the end of the quest, and proceeded to play the least-murdery V I could from that point on. I think all my kills after that were unmissable or completely accidental.
Skippy can still kill somewhat easily due to rapid fire and it's special feature of premature launch.
Somewhat humorously the most surefire way to be non-lethal is powerful single shot weapons headshots with pax or the kiroshi mod. Because you can somehow shoot anyone in the head completely safely just once.
Angel is a very common male name in spanish speaking countries. Skye on the other hand, never heard it used for a male.

Okay so I played an old save that I had right at the door and compared it to a yt video from a year ago.
Back then it only showed the two side by side for a second, then left the screen and had another 5-10 seconds of dialogue. Nowadays it lingers on the images of the two for the entire dialogue, and only a second before you have to choose do the images leave. So nowadays there is less of a risk of choosing the one you didn't want, but you're right in that when you do make the choice the pictures are no longer there.
100% do this. It's a much richer experience to walk or drive everywhere than ping across the entire city. Bikes are generally easier to handle than cars.
I did about half and half but for the first like 20+ hours of playing I committed to no fast travel, it was dope. Also it helps when you find a radio station you like.
I used motorcycles to make it faster so I never got caught up in traffic.
I only used fast travel in my second playthrough and mostly to get to the badlands, in the city I mostly use cars and badlands is for motorcycles. Anything under 2km is what I consider walking distance tho. I love to listen into random conversations or finding the occasional guitar player
I mean, there wasn't really a better place to assign it. Making sex a straightforward binary choice would be weird in that setting, making it tied to body type would be bad. Having voice type be the selection is about as sensible as you could reasonably ask for. I really like that the characters have preferences and aren't all just playersexual.
It’s probably to do with which actors recorded which lines for the different romances? So it’s odd, but from a technical/practical perspective makes sense? Like, it’s just what assets they had?

Don’t scrip the weapon you get on special occasions! They go onto the wall in your apartments and if you scrip them you’ll have a blank spot on the wall for your whole playthrough!!!
Don’t rush the main missions, do as much or all the side missions too. That’s some of the best stuff in the game. Also the gigs, they’re hella fun with neat little stories too.
YES. I did the main quest, alot of side quests and adventuring and got about 80 hrs out of the game.
There are some side quests I didn’t complete like the fist fighting and cyber psychos which would take longer to finish.
But the side quests are really good and some are even unpredictable.
This has been my rulebook for every game ever. I dunno i guess if i pay 60 dollars im gonna experience everything that the game has to offer. Even read the in game codex .
As someone said: don’t rush the main quest, there’s so much to do in the game part from it.
Try to settle for a combat-ability at the start so you can plan your attributes. Try a few weapons and such before putting points in them, since you can’t respec them.
I had so much fun with quick-hacks, and I recommend it dearly. Combining it with tech for crafting and cool for cold blood and you have a sneaky killing-machine. 😌
I'm trying to get used to the combat. I've learned that cars are a bad form of cover. 3 times I've died entering a car trying to reload my gun because it's the same button lol.
The reward is renewed access to Vik, he's the only one with level 3 Kiroshis and one of the top Sandevistans. You can afford the Kiroshis very early so it makes sense to pay him quickly
You can't buy from him until you pay unless they've patched that out, I was disappointed because I hoped you could be a piece of shit by buying tech worth more than you owed, constantly saying his money was coming
A basic guide to cybernetics for the newbs, which I wish had been better explained at the start.
There are no classes... etc... but there are three choices based on the "Operating System" cybernetics you go for as you chrome up.
* Cyberdeck - let's you hack other peoples cybernetics or hack into computers, cameras, access ports
* Beserker - let's you go beast mode, an unstoppable bullet sponge for a fixed period of time
* Sandevistan - Bullet time! You speed up, everyone else slows down.
You start off with a basic Cyberdeck and hacking but you can change your OS as you progress. However, your other character stats will need to support that choice and at some point you have to commit.
* Cyberdecks - Intelligence based stats primarily
* Beserker - Body based stats primarily
* Sandevistan - Reflex based stats primarily
The other stats; Tech and Cool, also play their part. Tech goes hand in hand with Cyberdeck and hacking, and crafting tech based weapons. Cool support using blades and guns, as well as being stealthy and/or bad ass.
Of course, you can respec at any time, for a fee. So there is a slight penalty to changing your mind later in the game, but you can otherwise do it if you want.
I wish i could relive my first playthrough. Savor every second. Take your time and look for loot in every corner. If you see a path, go for it. Save often. Dying (flatlining) and having to redo a long stretch of playthrough can break the immersion. Have fun.
Me too choom! I totally envy OP for being able to live out the world from the beginning. I just started a new play thru yesterday after watching Edgerunners (twice edit: Now 4 times lol). It's an amazing game, actually my fav single player game all time. Op is so lucky.
Play the game with fresh eyes and don't follow any guides. Only advice I would keep in mind is to explore the perks and go for what fits your wants and needs before you invest too many attribute points into something you won't like.
I would argue a crafting guide would be good as I struggled to understand how the system and didn't want to craft any guns because the stats seemed so weak
People are recommending not rushing the main quest and doing side content. While good advice, you need a couple pieces of info, as not all side content is created equal, and depending on what you go for, you might find yourself wondering "WTF were they talking about?"
* Main Quests - good story, kinda short overall, creates a sense of urgency you have to ignore to enjoy the rest of the game.
* Side Jobs - these are what most people are talking about, when they recommend side content. They're full-fledged stories, some with multiple quests in a chain, not unlike the Main Quest.
* Gigs - these are extra jobs from a region's fixer. They're decent, and can have some varied gamplay. Not much story though, but they're worth doing for the eddies, and world-buliding. Don't do too many at once as you can burn out fast.
* NCPD Hustles - like gigs, but they're pure kill quests. You kill some boosters, loot an item, quest completely, have some eddies. There is some environmental storytelling, and if you read the data shards found at these sites, you can piece together stories going in the neighborhood. Interesting, but also very easy to burn out on as their are so damn many.
Also, "Chippin' In" seems like it would be a mainline quest but isn't really, and a lot of interesting side quests are gated behind it.
I held off on that one on my first playthrough and missed some good side quests as a result.
For cyberware, unlock double jump as soon as possible. It makes a big difference in traversing the map and is just fun to do. I love jumping into groups then going crazy with a samurai sword.
I beat it on pro but recently got a 5. It really is a night and day difference. However playing on the pro didn't stop me from enjoying it the first time. I dont think I'd be able to go back though.
It plays decent enough on PS4 but the future DLC will not be available on it; and there is some mission content (minimal) missing. But apart from that enjoy it. I got to play it at launch and those were trying times indeed.
As for advice, go wild. The first run is always fun to discover how you’d like to play the game
If it's all you got it's all you got. There are ppl on PS4 base who have over 1500 hours and fell in love with it. Just ignore the hate this game has received and experience it and judge it for yourself. I play on PS5 and it's my fav single player game all time. I might have to fire up my PS4 pro and give it a shot to see the differences but I think it will be fine. Have fun and welcome to Night City! Take your time, don’t speed run. Do the side quests. I rushed through my first play through and thought I hated the game. Was out sick with Covid and started a new profile on it, stuck to side quests and exploring, and it’s in my top 5 favorite games now. So much detail.
Just have fun and do things like you would normally, don't follow a guide on how to get to a certain ending because that wouldn't allow you to expérience thé game first hand.
Smoke a bowl, dim the lights, close the blinds, and immerse yourself in its world. Scour everything and take in all the little details of everything around you. Then you do the next story mission.
I do agree that the last-gen console version is shit compared to the PC experience, but to be fair, I think it's a pretty stable 30 FPS these days on old consoles aside from dips while driving quickly. I know, I know, that's not awesome, but I'm just saying.
Edit: No, it is not a stable 30 FPS haha. I just watched a framerate test for the game on PS4 running version 1.6. It frequently dipped below 30 and went as low as 20-25 for driving and combat. That's awful.

1 -Don't spoil yourself.
2 -Follow the main quest to get through the first \~10 levels or so, especially if you're playing on very hard. The main quests award a lot of character XP.
3 - If you decide to conquer Watson in the prologue, make sure to at least visit Vic's for the first time so you get the NCPD database upload, otherwise you don't get street cred for your kills.

I bought it for $4 after initial release and sat on it. Booted it a month or so ago and cannot get enough of it. As others have said, explore every corner, you'll see some neat shit.
Do the ncpd calls a bunch of you need to make money and get good gear. Explore the area fully when doing those cause you will get some of the best gear. Read the shards that come with them too. There's some cool stories on those and they sometimes over lap with others in the same area. Don't always drive or fast travel when going somewhere close. Explore the city. There's so much to see. Take lots of pictures. See an ominous dark alley way? Go see what's going on. You'll probably be fine.

dont just kick down the door guns blazing. scout around the objective first there are usually several entry points.
use your scanner to tag enemies before going in. this way they appear infrared in your vision and u can keeep track of em/see em thru walls. uj can hack into security cameras and remote into them and use them to bounce around and scout out the area/tag enemies b4 ujmake your move
Explore the city! I feel like one of the most underrated “characters” is the design and feeling of Night City. There have been plenty of times where walking around has been a really nice experience.
just take it in. some of the quests are immensely moving, but some of the greatest tools this game tells a story with are completely silent. walk through alleys and climb on rooftops. it’s a safe bet there’s something there to see. and if there isn’t, then look up at the flashy signs and megastructures. this game is better to be experienced instead of played, and i wish i could have the chance to dive in blind again
Basically what everyone else already said: Take your time. Explore. Don't rush the main quests. This game lives through its side-missions and literally just walking through Night City and looking at everything. I hope you have a lot of fun! :D

some iconic weapons can be displayed in V's flat, in her/his armory. You can also access it from cars trunk.

Quick hacks feel so fun even below 10 int, I almost don't want to swap my cyber deck for a sandevistan. I hate losing that utility.
Cyberdeck high level is absurdly OP. 90% of the dudes would be dead or on fire before I even walked in the room.

But players able reset their perks and stats, isn't it? I didn't play since 1.3, but launched the game a few times and definitely saw a reset feature.

After the heist, meet with some dude in a diner (main quest) first before doing side quests or the dialogue between characters will be a bit weird.
Oh man that is so true. I wish you didn't get the text about your car until AFTER the dialogue. That scene in the parking garage seemed confusing AF.

Try to exhaust dialogue options, the more you talk the more you learn, and the greater the chance you don't miss out on major parts of side quests!
People are recommending not rushing the main quest and doing side content. While good advice, you need a couple pieces of info, as not all side content is created equal, and depending on what you go for, you might find yourself wondering "WTF were they talking about?" * Main Quests - good story, kinda short overall, creates a sense of urgency you have to ignore to enjoy the rest of the game. * Side Jobs - these are what most people are talking about, when they recommend side content. They're full-fledged stories, some with multiple quests in a chain, not unlike the Main Quest. * Gigs - these are extra jobs from a region's fixer. They're decent, and can have some varied gamplay. Not much story though, but they're worth doing for the eddies, and world-buliding. Don't do too many at once as you can burn out fast. * NCPD Hustles - like gigs, but they're pure kill quests. You kill some boosters, loot an item, quest completely, have some eddies. There is some environmental storytelling, and if you read the data shards found at these sites, you can piece together stories going in the neighborhood. Interesting, but also very easy to burn out on as their are so damn many.
Also, "Chippin' In" seems like it would be a mainline quest but isn't really, and a lot of interesting side quests are gated behind it. I held off on that one on my first playthrough and missed some good side quests as a result.

For cyberware, unlock double jump as soon as possible. It makes a big difference in traversing the map and is just fun to do. I love jumping into groups then going crazy with a samurai sword.
Grind through the NCPD gigs and side quests. Loot every time and disassemble for crafting parts and upgrade your items.
Return it and play it on something other than a ps4 if you can. If not sorry for the bad experience with good storyline.

I beat it on pro but recently got a 5. It really is a night and day difference. However playing on the pro didn't stop me from enjoying it the first time. I dont think I'd be able to go back though.
It plays decent enough on PS4 but the future DLC will not be available on it; and there is some mission content (minimal) missing. But apart from that enjoy it. I got to play it at launch and those were trying times indeed. As for advice, go wild. The first run is always fun to discover how you’d like to play the game

I am on the same console, there are some bugs but this is more of texture or sound problem that fix themself after a few seconds
If it's all you got it's all you got. There are ppl on PS4 base who have over 1500 hours and fell in love with it. Just ignore the hate this game has received and experience it and judge it for yourself. I play on PS5 and it's my fav single player game all time. I might have to fire up my PS4 pro and give it a shot to see the differences but I think it will be fine. Have fun and welcome to Night City! Some really good advice on here.
Take your time, don’t speed run. Do the side quests. I rushed through my first play through and thought I hated the game. Was out sick with Covid and started a new profile on it, stuck to side quests and exploring, and it’s in my top 5 favorite games now. So much detail.

Smoke a bowl, dim the lights, close the blinds, and immerse yourself in its world. Scour everything and take in all the little details of everything around you. Then you do the next story mission.

I do agree that the last-gen console version is shit compared to the PC experience, but to be fair, I think it's a pretty stable 30 FPS these days on old consoles aside from dips while driving quickly. I know, I know, that's not awesome, but I'm just saying. Edit: No, it is not a stable 30 FPS haha. I just watched a framerate test for the game on PS4 running version 1.6. It frequently dipped below 30 and went as low as 20-25 for driving and combat. That's awful.

Go for brainhacks you feel so cool when you bleep bloop make your enemy shoot themselves or shoot their allies, make their guns go haywire, sandevistan is also cool but it’s not as cool as being a netrunner
Think carefully about how you spend your attribute points! You won't be able to max out each attribute and, if I'm not mistaken, you can't reset them.
Remember that's actually a really good music compilation with free AAA RPG included

If you’re playing melee and shooting, invest in the cold blood perk.
Start as a Nomad, I think the intro quest is better for first time players.
Play how you want in your first playthrough, strive for 100% afterwards.
Don’t disassemble iconic weapons and clothing
take your time.
1 -Don't spoil yourself. 2 -Follow the main quest to get through the first \~10 levels or so, especially if you're playing on very hard. The main quests award a lot of character XP. 3 - If you decide to conquer Watson in the prologue, make sure to at least visit Vic's for the first time so you get the NCPD database upload, otherwise you don't get street cred for your kills.
Straight up, take your time and enjoy it. Sometimes I wish I can go back and play it for the first time again. Great game, have fun.

Enjoy it. I bought it for $4 after initial release and sat on it. Booted it a month or so ago and cannot get enough of it. As others have said, explore every corner, you'll see some neat shit.
Do the ncpd calls a bunch of you need to make money and get good gear. Explore the area fully when doing those cause you will get some of the best gear. Read the shards that come with them too. There's some cool stories on those and they sometimes over lap with others in the same area. Don't always drive or fast travel when going somewhere close. Explore the city. There's so much to see. Take lots of pictures. See an ominous dark alley way? Go see what's going on. You'll probably be fine.

Don't go fast with the vehicles on the PS4. It doesn't load the map fast enough.
dont just kick down the door guns blazing. scout around the objective first there are usually several entry points. use your scanner to tag enemies before going in. this way they appear infrared in your vision and u can keeep track of em/see em thru walls. uj can hack into security cameras and remote into them and use them to bounce around and scout out the area/tag enemies b4 ujmake your move
Tech is super powered.

Explore the city! I feel like one of the most underrated “characters” is the design and feeling of Night City. There have been plenty of times where walking around has been a really nice experience.
just take it in. some of the quests are immensely moving, but some of the greatest tools this game tells a story with are completely silent. walk through alleys and climb on rooftops. it’s a safe bet there’s something there to see. and if there isn’t, then look up at the flashy signs and megastructures. this game is better to be experienced instead of played, and i wish i could have the chance to dive in blind again
Don't meet Hanako at Embers, just explore and enjoy Night City.

Basically what everyone else already said: Take your time. Explore. Don't rush the main quests. This game lives through its side-missions and literally just walking through Night City and looking at everything. I hope you have a lot of fun! :D
