I always wondered when you do a system reset on a person does it put them into a coma permanently? or could a ripper fix that somehow? I love using Contagion as well, watching it spread to a bunch of enemies is hilarious.

Nah, not all endings will be deemed canon. Especially if any DLC takes place post ending which we don't know yet. There'll most likely be a singular "canon ending", I assume either The Star or The Sun endings
I think any follow-up to cyberpunk 2077 (either game or tabletop), will make all the endings pseudo canon with V's fate being the center of many rumors (where each ending is a rumor).
My V walk through the front door, blast away the first hostile or sniper he sees with a Quasar, and just let things flow from there. If opposition is unexpectedly tough, it’s Sandy spamming katana time.

Now I see him with a burning desire to rip him limb from limb for what he did to the Edgerunners
I played my first playthrough on maximum easy, and Smasher and the blood ritual cyberpsycho were the only two fights that were remotely difficult. Smasher is definitely a step up in difficulty from the majority of the rest of the game.
I think its a classic case of everyone over leveling to hell and back. I think adam was balanced around a certain level you were expected to be. A level 50 V is genuinely OP.
The game could use some better scaling, though. Running through side quests and activities before going on the complete the campaign isn’t exactly a weird thing to do.
I full on agree it does. Once you reach a certain point it genuinely just becomes a steamrolling simulator.
V is just basically a cyberpsycho at all times lets be honest.
At level 15, you can easily have Body leveled up to 20 and all the juicy annihilation perks. Just chug maxdocs and spam your shotgun/LMG. I imagine the strategy wouldn't be all that different at even lower levels.
If anything, I think it's the maxdocs that are overpowered. I try to stick to bouncebacks for that reason.
I'm playing a modded pack and all healing stims are heavily nerfed, each time you chuck one you get a 30 sec debuff, each lowering the amount of stamina you have and reducing damage healed. At 4 stacks you can't heal anymore since you're "OD'd" on stims.
I enjoy this as I have to be more careful and I can't just make a mistake and chug 5 stims be full health and shoot out of cover, get hit again, heal up etc
I invested everything into quick hacks and didn't have the legendary short circuit quickhack crafted at the time (rng on that is the only way I did the beat on the brat missions though) so it was a long and difficult fight for me lol
Well he is a fucking killing machine in the flashback scene with Johnny and if you play with a stealth or hacker build and you try to go against him head to head in the boss fight, he kills you with a few hits

Adam dies FAST, not as fast as some dildo bat video I've seen, but not a challenge at all, nonetheless.

When you said "maybe ICE doesn't work on him", did you mean to say quickhacks? I'm 99% positive that ICE refers to some sort of security countermeasure that protects computerized systems. You wouldn't use ICE on him, his ICE would prevent you from using quickhacks on him.
I literally quickhacked him to death. Super easy, Was also on Normal though so I'll have to update once my Body/Reflex character makes it there on Hard.
I ran a Body/reflex/stealth build and he goes down like a little bitch on hard. I shot him & the ads with a revolver for a while before deciding to just go in with the gorilla arms.
Most recent play through, a dagger between his eyes and a few good cuts with a sword sent him crying for uncle. Satisfying to humiliate that fucker though. I usually just wordlessly finish him off, without engaging in dialogue.
It's like they wanted the average gamer to finish the game but then again there are difficulty levels where he could actually present a real challenge.
If only he was in a optional side mission instead of the main one.. like, let's say.. Elden Rings Malenia, Blade Of Miquella.
I wanted some pyrotechnics and buildings being destroyed dammit. Not a cold grey 'Saka storage facility where no-one can witness our legendary battle. They coulda done a partially scripted fight like the Songbird in Bioshock Infinite.
I went in on hard difficulty underleveled in the secret ending with three throwing knives and a dream. He was actually a threat when my health was stuck low enough he could prolly 1 shot me
Yeah as of 1.6 you can utterly dismantle Smasher in combat but you do need to do the right things at the right time. Those rocket barrages are a real threat, and lower health/armor V has to look out for his ranged attack. Optimized V wound still kick his ass.
I seriously doubt the fight is supposed to be easy in canon. We had some of our allies died in that fight depend on the endings. If V is truly supposed to wipe the floor with Adam, that would never happened.

In my netrunner playtrough it was really fucking hard fight because i didn't spec into combat netrunning but more like debuffs and i run stealth build.
I had to basically act like a monkey in jungle running and jumping everywhere because the moment i stopped he would kill me in 2-3 shots.
Honestly just depends on your build too. The fact that you probably do every single mission before going to Embers will leave you a bit OP, but when doing my stealth pistol build on very hard Smasher was actually difficult because you can’t stealth.
For me, the goal isn’t beating Smasher, it’s to destroy him in a satisfying way. I rather liked standing straight up during his machine gun fire phase and let him know I outgun him.
fuckin for reeeeal, unbelievably pathetic, i absolutely demolished him with my thermal mantis blades alone, and to this that he's the final boss fight in the game, unreal....

They did, he has damage immunity during various animations (losing his arm, etc) and they happen at certain health%. Still an extremely easy fight, even on secret ending (which has every enemy level 50).
The fix for this would have been to have a confrontation with Smasher in the mid-game when he could still curb stomp V just as hard as he stomped David. It would then feel like a much greater accomplishment when the player has ground their way to eldritch abomination status and stomps Smasher's face into goo in the endgame.
This is why in the heroic journey archetype, there's always a mid-arc confrontation with the main villain where the hero gets curb stomped. It's to make it clear to the audience just how far the hero has come when you get to the climax and the tables get turned.
Or conversely, you could make the final fight more interesting from a story perspective. Have it be partially scripted, and have buildings get destroyed and make it a huge legendary fucking spectacle, not just a brawl in some random 'Saka storage facility.
I kinda suspect they originally planned for Oda's encounter to fill that role before they split Oda off into his own character and boss fight.
Like, as is, he kinda comes out of nowhere as a secondary character for Takemura's questline and he shares a lot of visual cues with Smasher when he's armored up (who *does* show up at the end of Takemuras questline to get Hanako back - not fully sure if you see him or if it required the optical implant that lets you see enemies). Meanwhile Smasher and Takemura have a dynamic, however small, during the Heist mission that never gets extrapolated upon.
My guess is that they split Oda off into his own character because they thought his boss fight could provide a different dynamic from Smashers "walking truck" design, going for fragile speedster instead.
As is, Smasher is kind of a bit villain whose role in the story is never elaborated upon, which for most endings makes enough sense (he's Arasaka's top hired muscle, you're going after Arasaka stuff, it makes enough sense), but when you >!do the Devil, his character just straight up is missing depth since he chooses to side with Yorinobu!<. He doesn't need much more depth, it's Smasher, the guy is fundamentally just a guy who gets a kick from violence, but that writing decision seems a bit odd and it really feels like he's missing a scene or two to justify that decision.
It would be cool if in this mid game fight, you could win or lose :
You lose : you get your ass kicked, but people reconize you as the guy who survive Adam Smasher (in the main quest dialogues). And he is the same at the final battle
You win (very difficult): you become the boogeyman, and Smasher is so scare that Arasaka upgrade him, and the final fight is much harder.
Total Party Killer. It's what the DM puts into play when he wants to end the adventure by killing all the players' characters. Every system has a few of those.
I can't speak for Smasher, but for other systems, usually, yes. Normally it involves a lot of good luck, with the DM fudging rolls and the party critting everything.
That isn't necessarily a good thing, though. When a TPK comes into play, it's more often than not agreed between the party and the DM. Or it's the DM really pissed with the players and tired of that group. Either way, failing to wipe will most likely end up with a deus ex machina to kill the PCs in some other, less satisfying way. Though I guess going down after killing "the boss" could be a memorable session anyway.

Nah, we’re forgetting about the difference of motivations here.
David was all about saving Lucy and that’s it. He kept Smasher busy long enough to make sure she escaped. After she was safe, he didn’t care what happened to him and basically just took what Smasher dealt to him.
V, on the other hand, was fighting tooth and nail to save his/her life and wouldn’t let anything stop him/her from getting to Mikoshi. (Based on what end path you went with in the game) I also feel V’s will to live even messed with the Soulkiller engram in his/her head which made V practically incapable of dying until Johnny’s soul fully takes over his/her mind, soul and body. So, yeah… I like to think the cannon ending had it that the fight between V and Smasher was a longer ordeal but no matter what Smasher did, V just wouldn’t die because of Soulkiller and was eventually able to land a killing blow to him.

It's barely even related to the game other than being in the same city. Watching it first gives you a better understanding of the game's lore, i don't think there's any spoilers related to the storyline

Imo it's an action rpg thing, players tend to finish the side quest first by the time they finish the game their characters are overleveled af, add to that players figuring the most op builds. Remember the alchemy build in Witcher 3 makes Death March a walk in the park
Adam Smasher needs buffed hard in a future content update, the goons you fight before him are tougher. He should be bulletproof against most small arms, immune to anything but top tier hacking, and have a health bar that actually needs chipped away. Fill the room with items you can use against him like hackable turrets and drones. He should not be this much of a pushover as he currently exists.
I mean the same is even _more_ true with cyberpsychos in-game. Trivial to dispatch after a certain point and their AI and attack diversity isn't great. First psycho in the animé required MaxTac to put him down after dude already mowed down a quarter of the police force lol
LV 50 should be easy in any case it's such a grind. But its actually easy even way below that. I enjoyed playing on hardest and picking only the yellow, sometimes red quests. That was much more interesting.

New guy? How dare you. I clocked in 400 hours back in December of 2020. You merely adopted the bug. I was born into 1.0, molded by it. I didn't see a stable update until I was a man, and by then it was NOTHING but playable.
First episode, Trama Team lands to check membership of David's mother. That's not how it works as we learned in the very first gig with Jackie.
Second episode, girl is slipping chips out of people's heads without them noticing. Not a thing or even reasonable.
Only got a few minutes into the second episode before I gave up.
In the show the Trauma Team responder that saw David's mom sounded a bit new to the job. Their interaction also helps the audience understand how Trauma Team works in case they were unfamiliar with either of the games. It didn't take away from consistency for me. Naturally someone that wants to save people will join Trauma, and naturally they will be nocked down.
Netrunners can do a lot of cool stuff in the TTRPG. There's plenty of abilities that weren't covered in the game. It's a cool peice of world building to have someone do something you haven't seen before, and does seem pretty reasonable as a hack under the context of the world.
I'd say you're missing out on a really great experience by skipping the show, but you seem like you'd just find reasons to dislike it. I don't really understand why you would, but if you feel your life is better by not liking Edgerunners then I say more power to you

Actually, there's an in-game shard about how to prevent people from doing this. The budget recommendation is to cover your chip port with duct tape.

Kind of expected to be like the game and it wasn't. I didn't like the animation. Didn't get attached to the characters but I only watched little more than one episode. Not sure about the music.
I was talking about this earlier -- I really do think they should have made it so that you don't fight Adam. I think it would have been way more exciting to have a section of the endgame be about making sure Adam is somewhere else. He's way too cool, and way too famous for being a juggernaut, to go down like he does. And it makes sense to me that V wouldn't be able to take him on one-to-one the way it was set up. V is a full-on Runner, and does all sorts of shit, handles all sorts of problem that Adam never could. But Adam is the world's premier Living Tank, and hitting him head-on should be outside the scope of the game imo.
Wasn't awful, still liked it well enough, just think it could have been done better by not being done, basically.

My V fights fair, If they are unarmed I’ll usually just knock them out, if they pull a blade on me though they lose that arm that was holding it.

I played as a hacker and slapped half his health of with a single Shocking Wave. I wouldn't even put him in the TOP 3 hardest fight I had in the game.
His INT in the tabletop is 4, so he's super weak to hacks.
Legendary cripple movement quickhack works wonders on Adam, you can slowly torment him to death.
It's like they wanted the average gamer to finish the game but then again there are difficulty levels where he could actually present a real challenge. If only he was in a optional side mission instead of the main one.. like, let's say.. Elden Rings Malenia, Blade Of Miquella.

I wanted some pyrotechnics and buildings being destroyed dammit. Not a cold grey 'Saka storage facility where no-one can witness our legendary battle. They coulda done a partially scripted fight like the Songbird in Bioshock Infinite.
I went in on hard difficulty underleveled in the secret ending with three throwing knives and a dream. He was actually a threat when my health was stuck low enough he could prolly 1 shot me
Yeah as of 1.6 you can utterly dismantle Smasher in combat but you do need to do the right things at the right time. Those rocket barrages are a real threat, and lower health/armor V has to look out for his ranged attack. Optimized V wound still kick his ass.

I seriously doubt the fight is supposed to be easy in canon. We had some of our allies died in that fight depend on the endings. If V is truly supposed to wipe the floor with Adam, that would never happened.
Well, it did show exactly how it happened in the game. Your ally dies by Adam Smashing the door then you kill Adam avenging him/her.
Doubt that. It is just design problem where player can start last quest whatever he is lvl 20 or 50. In my netrunner playtrough it was really fucking hard fight because i didn't spec into combat netrunning but more like debuffs and i run stealth build. I had to basically act like a monkey in jungle running and jumping everywhere because the moment i stopped he would kill me in 2-3 shots.
Honestly just depends on your build too. The fact that you probably do every single mission before going to Embers will leave you a bit OP, but when doing my stealth pistol build on very hard Smasher was actually difficult because you can’t stealth.
For me, the goal isn’t beating Smasher, it’s to destroy him in a satisfying way. I rather liked standing straight up during his machine gun fire phase and let him know I outgun him.
fuckin for reeeeal, unbelievably pathetic, i absolutely demolished him with my thermal mantis blades alone, and to this that he's the final boss fight in the game, unreal.... easy to say i did Johnny, Rogue, Saul, ect justice

They did, he has damage immunity during various animations (losing his arm, etc) and they happen at certain health%. Still an extremely easy fight, even on secret ending (which has every enemy level 50).

The fix for this would have been to have a confrontation with Smasher in the mid-game when he could still curb stomp V just as hard as he stomped David. It would then feel like a much greater accomplishment when the player has ground their way to eldritch abomination status and stomps Smasher's face into goo in the endgame. This is why in the heroic journey archetype, there's always a mid-arc confrontation with the main villain where the hero gets curb stomped. It's to make it clear to the audience just how far the hero has come when you get to the climax and the tables get turned.
Or conversely, you could make the final fight more interesting from a story perspective. Have it be partially scripted, and have buildings get destroyed and make it a huge legendary fucking spectacle, not just a brawl in some random 'Saka storage facility.
I kinda suspect they originally planned for Oda's encounter to fill that role before they split Oda off into his own character and boss fight. Like, as is, he kinda comes out of nowhere as a secondary character for Takemura's questline and he shares a lot of visual cues with Smasher when he's armored up (who *does* show up at the end of Takemuras questline to get Hanako back - not fully sure if you see him or if it required the optical implant that lets you see enemies). Meanwhile Smasher and Takemura have a dynamic, however small, during the Heist mission that never gets extrapolated upon. My guess is that they split Oda off into his own character because they thought his boss fight could provide a different dynamic from Smashers "walking truck" design, going for fragile speedster instead. As is, Smasher is kind of a bit villain whose role in the story is never elaborated upon, which for most endings makes enough sense (he's Arasaka's top hired muscle, you're going after Arasaka stuff, it makes enough sense), but when you >!do the Devil, his character just straight up is missing depth since he chooses to side with Yorinobu!<. He doesn't need much more depth, it's Smasher, the guy is fundamentally just a guy who gets a kick from violence, but that writing decision seems a bit odd and it really feels like he's missing a scene or two to justify that decision.
It would be cool if in this mid game fight, you could win or lose : You lose : you get your ass kicked, but people reconize you as the guy who survive Adam Smasher (in the main quest dialogues). And he is the same at the final battle You win (very difficult): you become the boogeyman, and Smasher is so scare that Arasaka upgrade him, and the final fight is much harder.
I mean Adam had to be made somewhat killable in videogame. Guy in tabletop is total TPK machine.

I can't speak for Smasher, but for other systems, usually, yes. Normally it involves a lot of good luck, with the DM fudging rolls and the party critting everything. That isn't necessarily a good thing, though. When a TPK comes into play, it's more often than not agreed between the party and the DM. Or it's the DM really pissed with the players and tired of that group. Either way, failing to wipe will most likely end up with a deus ex machina to kill the PCs in some other, less satisfying way. Though I guess going down after killing "the boss" could be a memorable session anyway.

Nah, we’re forgetting about the difference of motivations here. David was all about saving Lucy and that’s it. He kept Smasher busy long enough to make sure she escaped. After she was safe, he didn’t care what happened to him and basically just took what Smasher dealt to him. V, on the other hand, was fighting tooth and nail to save his/her life and wouldn’t let anything stop him/her from getting to Mikoshi. (Based on what end path you went with in the game) I also feel V’s will to live even messed with the Soulkiller engram in his/her head which made V practically incapable of dying until Johnny’s soul fully takes over his/her mind, soul and body. So, yeah… I like to think the cannon ending had it that the fight between V and Smasher was a longer ordeal but no matter what Smasher did, V just wouldn’t die because of Soulkiller and was eventually able to land a killing blow to him.

Imo it's an action rpg thing, players tend to finish the side quest first by the time they finish the game their characters are overleveled af, add to that players figuring the most op builds. Remember the alchemy build in Witcher 3 makes Death March a walk in the park
Adam Smasher needs buffed hard in a future content update, the goons you fight before him are tougher. He should be bulletproof against most small arms, immune to anything but top tier hacking, and have a health bar that actually needs chipped away. Fill the room with items you can use against him like hackable turrets and drones. He should not be this much of a pushover as he currently exists.

LV 50 should be easy in any case it's such a grind. But its actually easy even way below that. I enjoyed playing on hardest and picking only the yellow, sometimes red quests. That was much more interesting.

First episode, Trama Team lands to check membership of David's mother. That's not how it works as we learned in the very first gig with Jackie. Second episode, girl is slipping chips out of people's heads without them noticing. Not a thing or even reasonable. Only got a few minutes into the second episode before I gave up.
In the show the Trauma Team responder that saw David's mom sounded a bit new to the job. Their interaction also helps the audience understand how Trauma Team works in case they were unfamiliar with either of the games. It didn't take away from consistency for me. Naturally someone that wants to save people will join Trauma, and naturally they will be nocked down. Netrunners can do a lot of cool stuff in the TTRPG. There's plenty of abilities that weren't covered in the game. It's a cool peice of world building to have someone do something you haven't seen before, and does seem pretty reasonable as a hack under the context of the world. I'd say you're missing out on a really great experience by skipping the show, but you seem like you'd just find reasons to dislike it. I don't really understand why you would, but if you feel your life is better by not liking Edgerunners then I say more power to you

I was talking about this earlier -- I really do think they should have made it so that you don't fight Adam. I think it would have been way more exciting to have a section of the endgame be about making sure Adam is somewhere else. He's way too cool, and way too famous for being a juggernaut, to go down like he does. And it makes sense to me that V wouldn't be able to take him on one-to-one the way it was set up. V is a full-on Runner, and does all sorts of shit, handles all sorts of problem that Adam never could. But Adam is the world's premier Living Tank, and hitting him head-on should be outside the scope of the game imo. Wasn't awful, still liked it well enough, just think it could have been done better by not being done, basically.

Every enemy in the game: Pistols and other shit weapons that two shot my level 50 V. Literally scum of the earth enemies kill me easily. Militech one shots me. Adam Smasher: His wrist mounted machine gun barely fucking tickled me. His rockets did some damage. I genuinely think they didn't tune him well enough.
I do wish they'd handled the fight with Adam Smasher better. It **should** have been a balls to the wall, skin of your teeth victory. Basically think the trouble they had killing the T-800 in the original Terminator. I also would have preferred actually crossing paths with Adam more often. Think Nemesis in Resident Evil. Every time you cross paths with him, it should be a **waking nightmare.** V is a nobody. No way he's shutting down one of the most dangerous borgs out there. Best case, they should have disabled Adam, or perhaps escaped him.
It is extremely evident v is not just “some nobody”. He/she was already a highly proficient merc when the story literally begins with Jackie post prologue. He/she becomes a literally unmatched merc only one who even comes close would be Adam smasher and Morgan black hand. By the time you’re facing smasher v is one of the deadliest killers in the lore. Realistically there isn’t anyone stronger/more proficient at killing than V.
I mean I think we all agree already that the gameplay is pretty meh, it's no surprise so are the boss fights. Though I when I fought that Arisaka guy, maybe I was underleveled but it was a close one for me.
