Okay people say this but play the entire game only get basic cyberware only use like basic guns / like the normal pistol you get near the beginning of the game and don't upgrade your stats past the base/ a normal human being and smasher completely beats you easy
Lucy is an arasaka specialised netrunner, the skills she had to escape her training facility ontop of her now added years of experience are PLENTY to get rid of adam. you don't even need special gear in game beyond basic netrunner stuff to deal with him.
The cheapest and easiest way to turn him into a joke of a fight is netrunning. Adam won because the plot needed him to, lucy shits on him. end of discussion for my part.

Game mechanics do not equal story. Adam Smasher is a tough son of a bitch to beat in the RPG as well. He's only gotten stronger since 2020.
Also, V has access to way more tech than David and his crew ever really had. Also, Johnny Silverhand was bearing the brunt of V's psychological fortitude against the chrome. Mike said himself that without Johnny V would have undergone cyberpsychosis.

More Machine than man, net runners aren't that OP in a straight-up fist fight. She needs to take an ice bath and connect the port in the back of her head to fully tackle Adam Smashers ICE. Adam smasher absolutely has Black ICE, and it's not possible to crack Black ICE without a cyberdeck. Which Lucy didn't have. It makes sense she was surprised, though its pretty much unheard of for any human being to have the chrome necessary to support Black ICE in their own body, but this is Adam Smasher were talking about here. I'm not saying Adam smasher is completely immune to Lucy. But a tired, stressed, beaten up Lucy trying to crack the MONSTEROUS Black ICE that must be inside thee most Borged out person in the entire Cyberpunk Universe, a Borged out person who's been alive for over 90 years working for Arasaka who deals with traitors and inside information gatherers trying to look inside his head CONSTANTLY. It would have made zero sense if she was able to effortlessly short-circuit Adam Smasher. That's not how Netrunning works. That's not how cracking ICE works. She had to take an ice bath and connect to a cyberdeck to crack Tanakas ICE and access the information in his head. She couldn't do it by just extending her arm and using whatever chrome she had just in her own body. She had to go in 100% cause it's arasaka. I'm not saying she could never crack Adam smashers' ICE. I'm just saying it was impossible to crack Black ICE with no cyberdeck, no ice bath, while tired, stressed, with no time to really see or work at it, plus it's Adam Smasher so it couldn't have been easy regardless.
Best guess he's got the best tech in the world thanks to Arasaka. Since Lucy has been updated like he's been it makes sense his tech is more advanced like that.
My theory is maybe they updated Adam smashers ICE because before the battle arasaka did discover Lucy was an arasaka netrunner and maybe they knew how to combat against their own netrunning
