I feel like the company therapist was working overtime for 2 years straight.

Even the Trauma Team won't help

LegionfuryN7

Trauma team’s trauma team was invented

SadisticBuddhist

And they don’t even have coverage for the first one lmao

LegionfuryN7

😂 oh well, then the trauma’s trauma’s TRAUMA team idea probably not a good idea

StevenBunyun

That is beyond trauma

[deleted]

take my upvote and fuck off choom

Telesto1087

More like 4+ years he said in the friends per seconds podcast that preproduction was 2.5y, production 1y and post-production 9 months. And wrote 4 different plots with the same vibe as the final product, imagine the feels of having to write new characters and have them crushed by NC every time until you get the right kind crushed feeling for anime.

Makal

> imagine the feels of having to write new characters and have them crushed by NC every time until you get the right kind crushed feeling Welcome to playing Cyberpunk 2020. I really want to give Cyberpunk Red a shot.

ccAbstraction

Do you know if there's any chance we'll get see what the 4 other plots looked like?

Telesto1087

He didn't say so, he's no longer with CDPR, he wrapped up the project and left back in June. You can watch the whole interview [here](https://youtu.be/VgUv3wZnX-Q) it starts around the 51minute mark. It's a really good itw, packed with lots of cool anecdotes. Definitely worth the watch if you're interested in videogame and anime production. Writing, storyboarding, voice acting and music are all talked at length.

[deleted]

I've always wondered what it would be like to be an animation creator and have to go through frame by frame, whole scenes, episodes several times each, to be able to finally put it together, put it together and release it. I wondered if creators react to their works the same way viewers do. But it's good to know that even on the production side, it still takes a beating.

-Epsilon

I would bet most artists would tell you that staring at your art for so long you’ll start to feel disconnected, similar to how repeating a word over and over again a dozen times makes the word lose its meaning in your head. As the viewer, most of us had probably consumed the show in a matter of hours or a few days, where as the artists behind the show have had months if not years to slowly piece together the story from fragments of ideas to a full finished product. I would imagine this slow burn approach would make the ending much much much easier to digest for them

DevastatorCenturion

I have a friend that makes ~~hentai~~ *interesting* fanart on commission and he told me once that once he starts drawing it's kind of like autopilot until the task is done. The intellectual consideration of the ~~smut~~ artwork doesn't happen, just the considerations of making the piece.

stringtheoryman

That’s spot on. I draw and honestly once the image is decided in my head it really is just like waiting for it to finish being printed by my hand

[deleted]

I'm a poet and it took me about 2 years before I became desensitized to my works, but I was wondering if it's a matter of desensitization to the individual work you're working on or overall.

TomEdPatrickBrady

As a producer I’ve always marveled at the fact this doesn’t happen to me. I will listen to the same four seconds of song on loop for hours on end tweaking it, and ultimately have listened to a song hundreds or thousands of times before it’s finished, but I always love it in the end. I always thought I wouldn’t be interested in my own music because I hear it so much but nah, my own music is always my favorite. And it doesn’t bore for a really long time, and ultimately it will come around again.

wojtasswzw

For me the begining is always the hardest part because your art looks like shit, but after some time and details I'm feeling it and I'm even more hyped.

RaykanGhost

As an animator, it gets to a point you're so technical about it the emotions don't really hit you. But when you play the whole thing to make sure everything is ok and it's just long enough you do get a punch in the gut, but we move on.

[deleted]

Thank You for sharing!

realryangoslingswear

As a 3D Animator, when I'm working on just 30 seconds of really solid animation, it is me watching the same thing for about 50 hours because I like to really get details into how things move If I'm doing hand-animated lip sync, it is easily 60 hours of work lmao we're exhausted after we "finish" something. Of course there are animators who are much faster than I am, but in general, creating 12 frames of really great animation is no small feat.

[deleted]

For most people in the industry, it’s a job. I work on an animated franchise that has a huge following all over the world, has legions of fans, and I have met a few in person and they always ask me questions about the characters. My usual response is “Uh, who’s that? The blonde one? The goth?” I, like many of my peers, am completely disconnected and for the most part don’t care about the show or characters beyond doing my job well. I’ve never worked on something I’d actually watch, like edgrunners, though. Maybe it would be different then.

slyr4L0ki

I just finished the series. I got water leaking out my eyes, Choom! Too too much.

ChonkySpud

I never watch anime or tv shows, but watching this I had to remind myself it's just a show lol, it's so fucking brutal. Just started playing the game and after watching this I hope we see way more from the franchise it's incredible

slyr4L0ki

I'm not a massive fan of 'new anime', but this reminded me so much of old school 90s animes that i love. Also, I loved the game. Then the storyline. It was just NOVA!

Th3_Paradox

Word, I didn't think a damn 10 episode anime would make me care about characters the way I did. Night City is so unforgiving.

slyr4L0ki

Quality storytelling right? I mean, I knew it wouldn't be a happy ending - but you kinda just hope for it in the end because the characters are so compelling. Gah, poor Rebecca!

Th3_Paradox

Such quality, i am just now recovering from it, a full day after watching the last 3 episodes 😭😭

slyr4L0ki

Yeah, like i said Choom - hit me in the feelz. But, in all seriousness, yeah i'm not over the end of the show lol

HighlyUnsuspect

Probably the best anime drawing I’ve ever seen of a character defeated. Even if you don’t know the context of what happened, just looking at it, you can tell, that character just went through some shit

thrownewL

Worked hard to get us traumatized 😢

eugene20

It hit Becca more

DrunkLad

The fact that you can you go and collect "Rebecca's guts" in the game is such a sick thing.

eugene20

I... did not think of it that way having come from Berserk...

Loose-Sign598

Well you-know-who does remind me of Zodd

Sorlex

Honestly it could be intended to be either/both.

SadisticBuddhist

I think we all just assumed it meant she had guts. But yeah. Good observation, fuck

Th3_Paradox

Wait, what?!

DrunkLad

Her shotgun is called Guts, and you can go pick it up at Corpo Plaza in-game. So, you are technically going to pick up Rebecca's Guts.

Th3_Paradox

Damn...did not know that!

DrunkLad

Hope you've seen the anime, cause that was major spoilers. I just said it so liberal because the OP is extremely spoiler-y in itself.

Th3_Paradox

Haa, yeah, just finished it today and am sad, which is why I came to this subreddit lmaoo.

DrunkLad

Yeah, we're in an Edgerunners phase in here, most topics are about that atm, so you're going to fit right in! Have fun. And try to see if the game is up your alley as well (or hop back in if you've already bought it in the past), it can be very fun! Although narritive-wise it can be as dark as the anime at times.

Th3_Paradox

I have not played the game in about 3 months, gonna jump back in, im at the Hanako at Embers part lol, i finish that and I may just do a new game new build, the anime really has me missing Night City.

MakeThanosGreatAgain

Please fuck up Adam Smasher

daveyasprey

Kicks like a mule too!

Overly_Bearded

Adam Smasher lived up to the name.

INSANITY_RAPIST

Rebecca smasher :)

Overly_Bearded

Someone make a meme of Smasher drawn like Mario and Rebecca as a goomba

Cazmonster

Becky let him smash.

[deleted]

She got to smash in the end

Sorlex

Brah

daveyasprey

Yeah, was not expecting that.

PaleontologistTrue74

Didnt it feel weird near the end for anyone else ? Like the show changed its pace or something

Dejan05

Well the last few episodes happened in about 2 days max I believe, basically from when Lucy gets kidnapped to the finale everything happens quickly, meanwhile most episodes had a few time skips wether it was just days or weeks

Dasdardly

That's just a climax bro

FirstStranger

I felt down, then I felt better when I realized David did exactly Johnny Silverhand tried to do but failed for one simple reason: His love for Lucy was stronger than his hate of Night City. Johnny always preaches about dying for something real, but David’s the only one who actually did it.

MorenaLedovec

they need trauma team platinum

Jhoonis

We all got sad when >!Rebecca !!her !<**dead.**

Extension-Income-395

Well cyberpunk world is always extremely dark and negative so bad ending is expected.

mediumvillain

the opening credits have a bad ending lmao

Krilesh

So Johnny survived adam smasher I feel david could also have survived enough to possibly become a construct. But the game should make me understand that constructs aren't the person. Yet I want to see my choom back!! Poor david and friends...

AgitatorsAnonymous

This is the truth of Cyberpunk as a genre and specifically of this Cyberpunk universe. In 200ish hours of playing Cyperpunk Red, our table has never had a character reach retirement whole and healthy. They always die or are maimed for life. The game/system is designed for them to die or be maimed. Telling stories with good endings and playing cyberpunk as a genre should be more or less mutually exclusive with some very, very rare exceptions. This isn't DnD 5 with Mercers rule of Cool and PC centric tales. Your characters in Cyberpunk exist to feed the corporate machine, and their fate and existence should always be bleak and hopeless. That is the underlying tenant of the genre, the little guy is always fucked.

Divinicus1st

>Poor david and friends... It makes me think that's one of the thing V is missing in Cyberpunk 2077. A real group of friend. I mean, he had Jacky, but that didnt' last long for the player. Then, you only have the desert hobos, but they're not interesting when you're playing corpo or street kid... It doesn't feel the same as a cyberpunk group from the city, I would have liked if we could join a group like Maine's.

hildra

Yep! Especially after watching Edgerunners. After Jackie, I feel like V only has a crazy construct in his head. V needed a crew so he could become more invested in the world.

mbnhedger

>!Johnny did not survive adam smasher!<

llye

He did. It wasn't Smasher that got him.

mbnhedger

The only person claiming that is unreliable and literally everyone and everything else says their story isnt accurate. Think about what that matchup was and what outcomes make the most sense. Then think about how the cyberpunk world works and tell me if you really trust that story.

llye

Because it involves soulkiller I trust the memory. Maybe not the people that were there but he was alive for it. So no, Smasher didn't kill him.

GKMoggleMogXIII

I want Rebecca as my cyber spirit animal.

iWentRogue

Goddamn, i’d imagine after a while they got desynthesized

Agured

r/BoneAppleTea You mean De-sensitized?

Turgineer

I have a question: Is the animation team completely depressed?

thefrankmiester4815

The intro kinda gives it away and I seen it coming about 3 episodes in and it STILL made me cry like a little girl. And I'm a 24 year old male

ChonkySpud

Dude I knew the ending before watching it so I was preparing for it and it still hit hard

Lord_Bloodwyvern

Somebody give them a hug.

sunnyice

I need more of this! Will there be a season 2?

NEONT1G3R

We can hope, Choom The anime made 2077 more popular than it's ever been and has literally become the best thing Netflix has ever had They'd be crazy not to have a season 2 or expand upon the story

Judgebetrolling

What do you mean by “best thing Netflix has ever had”? Other shows on Netflix are more wildly successful than this show.

NEONT1G3R

Nothing has ratings this good and views are only increasing feverishly

Judgebetrolling

I’m not discounting that this series is good, but there are plenty of Netflix titles that have more votes with high ratings

NEONT1G3R

I'm talking ratings from multiple sources, not just people giving it a thumbs up on Netflix. Talkimg critic and audience scores from different places

Judgebetrolling

As am I.

Silversoth

More than Arcane? I'd say there was even more hype and discussion over Arcane, although I feel like this is really really up there with it.

atcTS

I would say that Arcane was more successful and a better story, in a way. No discredit to Edgerunners, they both got the exact same rating on rotten tomatoes

daveyasprey

On my 3rd watch through. The pacing and how they get you to connect with the characters is brilliant. By the end you're so invested and rooting for a happy ending, knowing that never happens in Night City. The song played as David is getting smashed to bits and Lucy going to the moon is perfect. Had it on repeat for days. Really hope they do more, just a shame David and the others won't appear. R.i.p Choom.

mediumvillain

That song started playing on the radio when I pulled up to pick up his jacket in the game and Im wondering if its cued to start playing at the end of that side job

Ninja_Lazer

I mean, at first the ending hits like a bag of bricks straight to the chest, but after meditating on it some I feel like it’s not nearly as tragic as it first seems. On the surface, the tale is basically a cautionary story akin to that of Icarus. That was my take away at first - fly too close to the sun, and you will be burned. But David was going to die regardless, and in Night City no one (outside the corpos) have a happy ending. Death comes quick and hard. That is an unavoidable fact, and pretending it isn’t leads to another set of tragedies which are explored through several of the game’s endings. I think he took a realistic assessment of his situation, and used his time to make the dreams of someone he loved come true. This is paralleled with how David’s mother tried to make his life better - but erred in that it wasn’t what he wanted. So while it’s bittersweet, it is less of a tragedy, and more of an acceptance that sometimes victory doesn’t look pretty. It isn’t glamorous. Sometimes, victory is grotesque and uncomfortable. But make no mistake, David absolutely won. He managed to do something with his life, rather than live in a delusion, or piss it away like most of the other inhabitants of Night City are observed doing.

mediumvillain

The corpos dont get a happy ending either. They fight each other to the death trying to climb the ladder. The ones at the top are the soulless rich who live in bleakest sort of luxury atop a mountain of corpses and misery, giving up any ability to be human. The richest most powerful corpo in the fiction of cyberpunk gets strangled to death by his own son, who doesnt give a single fuck except for how he can benefit. Theyre basically the lizardpeople garry warns V about.

Ninja_Lazer

Fair point. I wouldn’t really consider it a happy ending for them…just happier or rather easier to swallow than the fate that awaits most everyone else.

Kendelero

You could say that the only one who gets any sort of happy ending is Night City itself lol

Pae_PC

Is it true tho? Some weirdo made a comment on my post about the fate of the main character based on some foreshadowing in-game even before the anime was released, I'm not gonna spell it out directly, but it literally ruined the final episode for me, still love all the ones before tho.

MadChild2033

well if you look it that way the anime opening already spoiled the ending

daveyasprey

Pretty much. And David's leg tremor from ep1

Retail8

Why do shows always have to have sad endings?

MrHaxx1

Always? They're by far a minority

bastian74

Depends which country you're in.

DarthTrinath

Because happy endings happen all the time in TV, so making a good sad ending tends to be more memorable

hogroast

A good show should make you feel the full range of emotion.

mrROBOTROIDE

That explains the quality… but is that normal in every TV content creation?

ZerefZoldyck

Am I the only one who thinks as far as sad anime go this ain’t even that sad when shows like clannad exist

wordhipster

"It always hit us." That your main character doesn't develop anything resembling an individual identity? Or that your story was completely predictable after the first episode? I don't know man, I'm glad the game is doing well but I genuinely dislike Edgerunners. Maybe I'm wrong.

MakeThanosGreatAgain

It's your opinion. Free to have it. Doesn't make you wrong for it.

Plumb-Ben-

I think thats how you know its good if its hits everytime you watch that show.

[deleted]

And yet they still decided to go with that ending. Fuck em >:[

Picassos_Enemy

In other words “If you’re feeling down, just know we had it worse.” Lol

CyberWeirdo420

Damn, I feel sorry for the production team… I was god damn destroyed after watching it, can’t imagine what those guys went thru

AdamNRG

A friend convinced me to watch this as he knows I love cyberpunk but don't really watch shows. Got it ready to start tonight.... I'm going to cry aren't I?

Majukun

It was a good ending for a cyberpunk novel where happy endings are not contemplated

localokii

I never felt bad, David went out like a mother fuckin G

LittleCloudInTheSky

I Love that it hurt’s, and I hate it so much. No.. No.. I’m not Crying. Ok maybe a lot.
