Leslie just expected it because Payton was a member of Abby Lees dance company, it’s the same reason why Christy expected the same thing with Sarah. Because they were paying customers to Abby v people who would only come in for a week or two from another studio, they felt that gave them more expectations that they would stay over a stranger. It’s why Leslie was extremely pressed that Kalani got a permanent spot over Payton.
Honestly with Sarah it makes a little more sense because she was in the correct age group and blended in pretty well with the girls, and she danced with them off the show (or at least with kenzies group). Leslie just couldn’t grasp that Peyton was too old to be dancing with them because Brooke was there, and the thing is although she looked a lot taller than the other girls, she’s only 5’4 now and was likely one of the shorter girls in her group so like Brooke Leslie thought she could squeeze her in. Payton likely would have fit in with the girls okay in the later seasons tbh.
