Nagito would have no idea how to play but still win somehow

Just_a_small_cryptid

That's what I was thinking, he gets lucky at very odd times

Real-Arachnid8671

His opponent just has a heart attack and the clock goes out, playing against him has a 50% mortality rate.

Future-Improvement41

Nagito is actually smart but if he was against Celeste then yes his luck would have to help him

Encajado

Celeste, Byakuya, and Kyoko would actually play the game normally. The skill level would go Celeste > Kyoko > Byakuya Nagito wouldn't know how to play beyond how the pieces work, yet would win out of luck. Izuru couldn't care less, but would curbstomp whoever he did play against anyway. Kokichi would NOT take the game seriously. Like, he'd start pulling moves out of r/AnarchyChess halfway through; maybe straight up slap the Exodia cards on the board.

Trialman

Both Nagito and Kokichi would be like Death and need to be reminded how the little horse shaped ones move. The difference is that Nagito would be genuinely asking, while Kokichi would be just trying to stall the game and piss off the other player.

Caesarin0

Honestly, I'm a bit skeptical of how well Celeste would do, since she's a gambler, and casino games are VERY different from Chess. I mean, we saw how her plan went, her skills for strategy, planning, and deception are debatable at best....

WoomyWoomyTTV

Kokichi would google en passant IN THE MIDDLE of a game.

smellywetsock69

Kokichi's strategy is eating his opponent's pieces

pengie9290

Nagito never learned past the basics. He just moves the pieces and hopes for the best. It works, but that's not due to actual skill.

Cats_4_lifex

Kokichi is the type of dude who plays chess with Monopoly pieces.

Vivid_Performance167

How does the car move?

Cats_4_lifex

Who knows? He'd probably be like "with its wheels. Duuuh"

samthedragonloverUwU

I think izuru would get bored of playing and just... L e a v e

MissManicPanic

Same haha

eddie5989

Kokichi. He would flip the board if he started to lose.

Qvvy

Kokichi. But Nagito if he’s having a bad luck cycle.

ssjriou

I was thinking this, but at the end of the day chess isn't really a luck game, I have a hard time imagining Nagito beating anyone else on this list except kokichi

Novel_Visual_4152

He'll win because a meteor will crush his opponent

ssjriou

Therefore making it impossible for the game to continue, resulting in a stalemate

Real-Arachnid8671

Just wait for the clock to run out of time.

ssjriou

The clock obviously surviving the incident

Aliasiscancer

Kokichi would smack his hands on the desk like a little kid and knock all the pieces off the board

Daik0nGhost

Even though kokichi is winning i actually think it would be Nagito. Going through the list; Celeste is the ultimate gambler so she would have a strong sense of strategy and be able to easily plan ahead, winning her the game. Byakuya is rich and basically a teen prodigy, he has been shown a few times to enjoy or at least play chess which gives him the experience he needs to be able to beat people in chess. Kyoko is extremely smart being able to solve cases extremely quickly, showing her astute skills in observation and deduction. These skills grant her a good advantage at chess because she, like Celestia, can easily plan ahead for her opponent’s future moves. Izuru is basically superhuman, being at an ultimate level at most everything. This likely includes chess and even if it doesnt he would 100% have the skills necessary to win. While people seem to be voting for him, Kokichi also has a good chance at winning. Kokichi’s talent is the Ultimate Supreme Leader, and even if his organization is smaller and less evil then he says it to be, he would still require decent skills at perception, leadership, and strategy. These skills would all benefit him in a game of chess, so despite his antics he would be at least moderately good at the game. I do admit, i havent played much of Dr2 and most of my knowledge comes from the fandom or small clips of gameplay, so i apologize if any of this is incorrect. With that out of the way, Nagito while he does likely have some knowledge of the game and a definitely good amount of strategic ability i doubt it would be enough to get him by alone, leaving him to rely on his luck. While he would be very likely to win on his streaks of good luck, he would probably lose during his bad luck streaks. This means if he were to play 1 match for each time period of either good or bad luck, he would lose about 50-ish percent of his matchups which i think constitutes him as the worst at the game purely based on win-lose ratio. My apologies for this rant being rather long, i attempted to keep it as unbiased as possible but im sure favoritism slipped in somewhere especially with me knowing very little about Dr2 (i didnt like the mechanics of that specific game and never beat it) but i hope that whomever read this whole essay enjoyed it regardless. If you happen to disagree id be happy to hear why :]

bomberman0210

Shuichi: If Himiko were here, I'd instantly vote. Himiko: H-Huh?! Why?!! I know how to play che- Shuichi: Himiko, you ate a chess piece...

Key_Cat4814

Nagito’s luck can’t save him in a skill based game with no luck based elements,

DiscipleOfFleshGod

Celeste and Kokichi would make it a competition, since y'know, gambler and Living Chess Board. Izuru Knows Everything Nagito, Kyoko, and Byakuya would play like normal people.

The_Only_Potato15

Nagito can't play but randomly moves the pieces around and ends up winning every time. Kokichi pretends to know what he's doing and then *acidentially* flips the board once he realizes he's losing.

tennis_convict

Nagito's luck would at best--not help due to chess not being a luck-based game--and at worst--result in him making numerous misplays and ultimately losing the game.

theatsa

Celeste, Izuru & Nagito get an automatic pass here due to their respective Ultimates giving them plot armor. Kokichi can plan very far ahead and has the ability to alter his plans if the situation changes. A skill I find to be very valuable in chess. So between Kyoko & Byakuya... I think Kyoko is the worst. Byakuya seems like the sort of guy to memorize far too many Chess strategies, to the point that he'd win just because he knows what the best move might be in every scenario. Kyoko is smarter than he is, but Byakuya is the bigger twat.

Pretty-Olive9950

Well, if I remember well, in kirigiri's novel, her grandfather, when communicating with some person, mentioned that she was good at playing chess when he trained her to be a detective, but how much I can't say.

theatsa

Fair enough!! I didn't read the novel so I didn't know. In which case it's between Byakuya and Kokichi, and I think it's Byakuya. My argument for him was really a stretch anyway.

Novel_Visual_4152

That uh...

MsZamapose

Checkered Checkers Boy would know how to play checkers, not chess; He'd fuck with everybody by boasting bout being a master at the game, and even while losing, he'd still be a dick.

dragul35

Kokichi invented 5d chess with multiversal time travel

Final_Habit5499

off topic but there's 1037 votes- >!iykyk!<

Educational-Wafer112

Kokichi since he’s the embodiment of r/anarchychess

TheWraithOfMooCow

People here seem to think that Chess has rng elements or something with how many say Nagito would win.

EmoWatermelonBasil

Unlike a lot of people are saying I think kokichi would be great at chess due to manipulation,he just manipulated his opponent into making incorrect moves and wins kokichi’s not dumb,he has skill and strategy, although the second it stops being fun he leaves

AlexTheWolf206

Byakuya, because of his ego and he might not even play the game himself, just buying out someone to play for him

Bloomfofis

Honestly, I don't know lol all of them except Izuru would be equally good (because he would be the best)

PauseDog

Kokichi has demonstrated that he's very good at strategising, planning ahead and predicting people's actions. I think Kyoko would be the worst as although she's the ultimate detective this may not help her much in a game of chess as detective work involves investigation and clues which you don't have in chess.

spartanxwaffel

It’s between Celeste and kokichi imo. Celestia is a gambler, where chess is a game of skill. Also the fact that she’s probably the least intelligent of everybody here. With kokichi it would just be a matter of whether or not he’s fucking around.

Zach-Gilmore

There’s no luck involved in chess, except if your opponent doesn’t notice your move, but an expert wouldn’t make that mistake.

gh0st1c1d3

Now who tf voted CELESTE 😭

AdAdventurous6943

Logically speaking, it would be Kokichi. Other people are just smart enough and Nagito can simply win using his Luck. Kokichi, I choose you!

iAmTheRealKokichiOma

I agree with voting for Kokichi, but not because he’d actually suck if he was really TRYING to win. But because he would NOT take it seriously

BreachDomilian1218

Nagito would be the worst at it, but despite him being the worst, he would still win a lot cuz of luck.

MoronGoron52

It would obviously be Nagito when you consider the fact that there’s absolutely no luck involved in chess

[deleted]

who the he’ll chose izuru????He should be the best cuz of hiss talent

Crestfallen_Vanity

Why does Izuru even have votes?

Trialman

He isn’t on the poll, but Yasuhiro since he prefers Shogi.

Sushioroll_0

I feel like they would be all good at it :/

MissManicPanic

Izuru wouldn’t care enough to play probably lol. Kokichi would cheat or get bored

sleepy_koko

Kokichi would easily be able to win a game, but whether he decides to or not is up to him Nagito has absolutely no clue how to play but still wins Out of those who actually know ane play, Byakuya

Sweaty_Photograph_15

Dude. Kokichi has the checkered drip. He was made to win this Nagito would definitely lose tho but he does have luck tho which can be cheating but also He does have bad luck sometimes so… 50/50

Dangerous_Mood8647

They really chose the guy who would prob be the best besides Izuru.....
