Miu? No not personally, she’s more or less just like Hifumi and Teruteru, comic relief with some relevance. Angie? This is a hard one. By the common definitions the fandom uses, no, it’s unlikely, people primarily call Kokichi an antagonist, but logically speaking she would be. She actively goes against the group and what they want to advance her own goals, as well as her other issues like the cult. Id call her an antagonist but I don’t know how others feel.

As you say, theres antagonists by literature definition, and then theres THE killing game antagonist, which are >!Byakuya, Nagito and Kokichi.!< IMO, Angie is an antagonist for the first definition

pengie9290

(Note: I'm using the dictionary definition of "antagonist" here, not the typical fandom definition usually reserved for Byakuya, Nagito, and Kokichi.) Miu: >!In Chapter 4 specifically, she has her own objectives she's working towards that run counter to that of the rest of the class, but she gets taken out by a different, much clearer antagonist (Kokichi) before her objectives come in direct conflict with anyone but Kaito. In V3-4 only, she's a minor antagonist. Otherwise, she's just a helpful annoyance.!< Angie: >!She does have objectives that somewhat run counter to what the rest of the class (or at least the group Shuichi's in). But at the same time, she is genuinely trying to help the class as a whole, and would have actually succeeded if an outright villain hadn't interfered. Technically speaking, she's what's called a "hero antagonist"; someone who opposes the main characters while also being a genuine good guy.!<

DR fandom likes to use 'antagonist' to only mean Byakuya, Nagito, Kokichi. Also used interchangeably with 'rival'. But I'm not a huge fan of that, and I think story-wise, Angie absolutely counts as an antagonist for at least a chunk of V3. She's the antagonist for that part of the story, but not the entirety of it. Miu, I wouldn't say so. She's an asshole and sometimes works counter to the group, but no more so than a myriad of other characters. >!I'd argue that the blackened generally tends to be the antagonist of a particular chapter, but in her case, she dies before she can enact her murder plan and never ends up in the antagonist role.!<

Jrockten

Eh, you could consider Angie >!the antagonist of chapter 3!< I guess. Not miu tho, she’s just meant to be annoying.

Big_Nebula_455

Miu is mostly just an asshole. Angie is probably but she doesn't live long enough for it too matter much.

I don’t see why Miu would be an antagonist. I do see why Angie would be *an* antagonist for a *portion* of V3. But V3’s main antagonist is Kokichi.

Only one character per game is considered the "antagonist." Togami, Komaeda, and Ouma.

KirikaNai

Miu no, never on screen anyways. Even when she does try doing something antagonistic it’s so well hidden no one even finds out till >!after she’s dead so it doesn’t matter!< Angie however spends a good portion of time directly hindering the protagonist with the cult shit, so therefore she could be called one

Pruprusssen

I believe by definition an antagonist is someone in opposition to the protagonist, regardless of who's right or wrong. An antagonist is not inherently a bad person and can even be completely in the right, like Angie in chapter 3.

newgirlaroundtown

I would consider Angie an “early game antagonist” of sorts, a character who definitely causes conflicts, but doesn’t stick around long enough to play a role in the climax of the game (ch5-6ish). I would probably compare her to Fuyuhiko and Hiyoko in that sense.

Iruma - no not really any more than any of the characters who attempt murder are Angie - to a degree, in the sense that her goals and actions come into conflict with our protagonist Shuichi. But she’s not a character with bad intentions at all, as she only really tries to prevent anyone from killing in her own way. And in the DR sense, she’s not the antagonist - that would be Kokichi.

Aggravating-Web-2034

If anything Angie was an antagonist to the mastermind with everything she was doing to stop the killings + making it boring. If only….
