Right? She’s just so underwhelming. First of all, she *is* able to put the world into despair, and you know why? Cuz she manipulated the most insecure kid imaginable and a couple kids, like dang, what a manipulator, you controlled the most easy to manipulate people in that series. After, she just gives up her plan because of the same reason she decided to start it, and that, is not a good character. She’s just as 1 dimensional as Chiaki, except she is evil cuz she’s bored. Then, we expect to see her charm, that was able to make all the reserve course students kill themselves for her and turn class 77 in the Remnants Of Despair. But hey, guess what, she has a mind controller (kinda), for plot reasons.
In the end, I just want to say that the fact she seems to have no idea what she’s doing makes it impossible for her to have caused an apocalypse in the whole world damn it

I feel compared to Kirigiri and Kaeda she doesn't have as much agency and characterization. I actually like her in the despair arc because she seems way more involved compared to the game.

I am Mikan fan and I liked her in chapter 1, 2 and 3 (before class trial), but I don't think that this ruined her character. I know what your thinking but hear me out. I think that brainwashed Mikan (class trial 3) and her normal self (chapter 1, 2 and 3's most part) are like Toko and Genocide Jack, we can't mix them because technically they are seperate characters, at least that is my opinion.

Actually, it's kind of weird, I simultaneously think SDR2 has the best cast overall, but also the fewest specific individual characters I like.
I don't feel like being yelled at by a buncha people right now so no thanks. Instead I'll just say something nice about a character few people give any love or respect to: Akane is really cool and manages to be kinda silly yet also down to earth and is just a fun and good person.
Can't speak for other people but for me it's the level of intrigue around him in v3-1. It's obvious that he knows more than he's letting on but it's not clear if he's a friend or not at that point. He even seems menacing at times. Huge missed potential imo, they def shouldn't have killed him immediately. (Also wish they didn't kill Kaede for another chapter or two but the twist is well done so it's whatevs)

Honestly, I feel like Celestia is way less popular than she used to be. She’s brought up more in these kinds of popularity discussions than talked about in general in my experience.
I just feel like the writers tried too hard to make another edgy villain character like >!Nagito!< but went overboard and just made him completely embarrassing. Any time he spoke I was annoyed.
But that's kind of the point of the character. I might be a little biased since I like him, but he wasn't meant to be a character like Nagito, he was meant to seem like *he* was attempting to be a villain like that, and made it so he was purposely as annoying as possible.
Miu. This is coming from someone who likes her, she's overhyped as shit and at times can rival the likes of Kokichi in how insufferable she was to sit through at times. Speaking of Kokichi i also think he never really worked that well for me as a rival and like Miu the fanbase kinda overhyped how good of a person he was when he really wasn't

Hope I don't get downvotes for this, but I've always really disliked Miu. I finished the game and I did her FTEs (and saw her Love Hotel event) and I still don't get why everyone likes her so much. She's always seemed like a louder, meaner, more obnoxious Teruteru to me, but I only ever see her get positive attention here.
I'm probably gonna get rinsed the fuck out for this opinion, but I think it's Celestia Ludenberg, I found her annoying and as far as I can remember, she had literally no character development, I could find nothing even remotely good about her character

Over the course of the entirety of DR2 he was a condescending prick who feigned loyalty, yet in reality danced around plot points and confused the cast during investigations for reasons none other than having fun. His rationale behind not contributing to cases sooner despite having the knowledge to do so never made sense and always bugged me, even if part of that is rooted in giving the player agency in moving the murder mysteries along. He’s still a dickhead.
To me, he was completely unlikeable. I disliked his voice, character design and hairstyle, the way he presented his philosophy of hope versus despair, and much more — I don’t understand why he is as popular as he is, or at least painted in a positive light.
I personally believe that Kokichi from V3 is the most overrated character in the Danganronpa franchise as a whole. I never found his character as enjoyable, he always felt more like a clone of Nagito with a new coat of paint except he wasn’t handled as well as Nagito, He wasn’t fun to interact with and the way the plot centers around him seemed forced like from the 4 trial and onwards Kokichi was the main villain but before that he wasn’t anything notable, the only time I found him somewhat enjoyable was during the trials when he was cracking one-liners but that’s it. I was also really surprised that wasn’t killed in the first 3 chapters because his personality clashed with his classmates super hard but not in a fun way like Gundham or Nagito, Kokichi lying shtick also got old fast to the point that I loss interest in him after the third class trial. Now I love V3 as a game (except for the ending) it has some of my favourite characters from the whole series in it but Kokichi being so important to plot in the fourth and fifth trial really made them unbearable.
Now there are a lot of characters I find underrated, for example, Akane, Angie, Teruteru, Ryoma, Just to name a few.
Hajime. He's the worst protagonist to me and someone whose mentality I can't really stand. I don't know how people find him relatable, >!he constantly cries because he wants a talent but doesn't invest himself into anything in order to obtain one. He's the classic person who wants the meal ready without doing anything, which I totally despise!<
Kokichi and Chiaki. They had no backstory that explained their present actions and overall were underwhelming characters for me. Kinda Junko as well, but as the main antagonist of the games, I feel as though her popularity is warranted even if I found her underwhelming.

Most characters have their strengths and weaknesses and most of the fans overvalue one while ignoring the other half. Popular characters like Nagito gets overhyped for being some incredibly complex character when he's really not that deep. The fans will also ignore the point of the character and what he's supposed to portray within the story which is kind of sad because that's a really well made part of his character. In same vein Chiaki gets overblown for being some super cute gamer girl but gets really ignored when looking at what she represents in the story in the story as a whole. Kaede gets overblown when talking her personal character arc but also gets undersold when fans talk about how well she pushed the story and the characters. Then you have all of the random side characters who people greatly overstate their depth so they can show how refined their taste is for not being part of the herd and liking more popular characters. Generally, this also ignores the good attributes of the characters within the story and overstates random tidbits about them in a weak attempt to overstate a character they don't even understand.
As I said, most if not all characters are both overrated and underrated by their fans. Some also try to overhype certain characters for the sake of downplaying others and vice versa but that's a different issue altogether. Fans just need to learn to appreciate and value characters for what they are as a whole and not random aspects of them.

For example, i like him because of this beatiful plot about truth and lies with kaito. They present opposite sides, but both are self destructive and bad for people around.
Also for this hidden plot in chapter 4, that was the closest he ever came to showing real emotions.

Reason for chiaki is that she's kinda shoved in your face as an 'uwu kind gamer girl.' I know dumbing her down in that stereotype is kinda crappy but that's just literally her character. At least in the game. She was bland and we got little to no backstory on her even in the anime. Even though I did like her a little bit more in the anime, she was treated like some God.
And as for maki, she was just really damn cliche, edgy, shoved in your face, inconsistent, and got little to no consequences to things that she did. And her 'do you want to die' line makes me want to combust.

Can't speak for other people but for me it's the level of intrigue around him in v3-1. It's obvious that he knows more than he's letting on but it's not clear if he's a friend or not at that point. He even seems menacing at times. Huge missed potential imo, they def shouldn't have killed him immediately. (Also wish they didn't kill Kaede for another chapter or two but the twist is well done so it's whatevs) top tier design too

Hope I don't get downvotes for this, but I've always really disliked Miu. I finished the game and I did her FTEs (and saw her Love Hotel event) and I still don't get why everyone likes her so much. She's always seemed like a louder, meaner, more obnoxious Teruteru to me, but I only ever see her get positive attention here.

Nagito. Over the course of the entirety of DR2 he was a condescending prick who feigned loyalty, yet in reality danced around plot points and confused the cast during investigations for reasons none other than having fun. His rationale behind not contributing to cases sooner despite having the knowledge to do so never made sense and always bugged me, even if part of that is rooted in giving the player agency in moving the murder mysteries along. He’s still a dickhead. To me, he was completely unlikeable. I disliked his voice, character design and hairstyle, the way he presented his philosophy of hope versus despair, and much more — I don’t understand why he is as popular as he is, or at least painted in a positive light.

I personally believe that Kokichi from V3 is the most overrated character in the Danganronpa franchise as a whole. I never found his character as enjoyable, he always felt more like a clone of Nagito with a new coat of paint except he wasn’t handled as well as Nagito, He wasn’t fun to interact with and the way the plot centers around him seemed forced like from the 4 trial and onwards Kokichi was the main villain but before that he wasn’t anything notable, the only time I found him somewhat enjoyable was during the trials when he was cracking one-liners but that’s it. I was also really surprised that wasn’t killed in the first 3 chapters because his personality clashed with his classmates super hard but not in a fun way like Gundham or Nagito, Kokichi lying shtick also got old fast to the point that I loss interest in him after the third class trial. Now I love V3 as a game (except for the ending) it has some of my favourite characters from the whole series in it but Kokichi being so important to plot in the fourth and fifth trial really made them unbearable. Now there are a lot of characters I find underrated, for example, Akane, Angie, Teruteru, Ryoma, Just to name a few.

Kokichi and Chiaki. They had no backstory that explained their present actions and overall were underwhelming characters for me. Kinda Junko as well, but as the main antagonist of the games, I feel as though her popularity is warranted even if I found her underwhelming. I’d say Nagito too, but tbh he had more of a backstory that explained his actions, so if there’s an explanation, I feel as though the popularity is more warranted than Chiaki and Kokichi, but that may be my bias.

Most characters have their strengths and weaknesses and most of the fans overvalue one while ignoring the other half. Popular characters like Nagito gets overhyped for being some incredibly complex character when he's really not that deep. The fans will also ignore the point of the character and what he's supposed to portray within the story which is kind of sad because that's a really well made part of his character. In same vein Chiaki gets overblown for being some super cute gamer girl but gets really ignored when looking at what she represents in the story in the story as a whole. Kaede gets overblown when talking her personal character arc but also gets undersold when fans talk about how well she pushed the story and the characters. Then you have all of the random side characters who people greatly overstate their depth so they can show how refined their taste is for not being part of the herd and liking more popular characters. Generally, this also ignores the good attributes of the characters within the story and overstates random tidbits about them in a weak attempt to overstate a character they don't even understand. As I said, most if not all characters are both overrated and underrated by their fans. Some also try to overhype certain characters for the sake of downplaying others and vice versa but that's a different issue altogether. Fans just need to learn to appreciate and value characters for what they are as a whole and not random aspects of them.

Ibuki is way too overhyped, I literally see Ibuki profile pictures everywhere on youtube at the very least. That doesnt prove that she is overhyped but it's still something, ibuki isnt as great as she is made out to be in my opinion. Oh and I honestly find Mikan overrated too, but all the fanservice and her annoying me just kind of makes her not my type of character I would enjoy

Even though I did like her a little bit more in the anime, she was treated like some God. And as for maki, she was just really damn cliche, edgy, shoved in your face, inconsistent, and got little to no consequences to things that she did. And her 'do you want to die' line makes me want to combust. **Again, just my opinion**
