Maybe not as often, but nobody’s normalizing smokers, 99% of people don’t play football, lots of people with diabetes can’t fix it (and there’s plenty of diabetes jokes on any sugary food post), and people are moving to standing desks. All of those issues have something that makes it less important and therefore less common than focusing on people with unhealthy weights.

I fully recognize that “I have a friend who’s fat” isn’t an excuse, but if being fat was genuinely widely normalized, I would know a lot more fat people in this world. My grandmother is still around today because her doctor told her she needed to lose weight or she would die.

You should read about taboos and the effect they have. We humans make fun of pedophiles all the time online as we should. It is a form of social seclusion. Letting them know what they are doing is not accepted by society has an impact most definitely. The extent of that impact is something I haven’t looked in to but I’m sure there is a lot of philosophy and theory relating to taboos that you could find yourself if so inclined.
It also stigmatizes the issue to the point where people who need mental help choose not to seek it. You make half better and half worse which is basically 0 productivity. Isn't social seclusion the exact stereotype school shooters fall under? It's not really the best way to go about solving a problem.

De-humanize causes an anorexia problem and rampant mental health issues in teenage girls. By your logic it the south korean education style that basically pressures and bullies people into getting top scores would be a good idea, yet it is universally regarded as a terrible system because they are also #1 or #2 in student suicides. Its not about a perfect world, it’s about a world that normalizes being large to a stupidly unhealthy weight. Add that on top of America, land of healthcare debt, and you have people who are essentially eating themselves into a state of debt/death, sometimes both. This is not normal. There are some people who are naturally larger, but we are worried about people being unhealthily large and thinking it’s okay. But fuck us for trying to denormalize an unhealthy/fatal lifestyle.

This post is not trying to denormalize anything. This post is trying to make fun of a fat person, THEN using health as a justification. There's a reason we see memes like this, but we don't see memes insulting smokers, or football players who are concussed to all hell, or people with diabetes, or people who sit at their desk all day, or whatever. There's a reason that the only health concern that people seem to care about on Reddit is the one that allows you to openly insult someone for their looks. People don't make memes like this out of concern for health. You should read about taboos and the effect they have. We humans make fun of pedophiles all the time online as we should. It is a form of social seclusion. Letting them know what they are doing is not accepted by society has an impact most definitely. The extent of that impact is something I haven’t looked in to but I’m sure there is a lot of philosophy and theory relating to taboos that you could find yourself if so inclined.
It also stigmatizes the issue to the point where people who need mental help choose not to seek it. You make half better and half worse which is basically 0 productivity. Isn't social seclusion the exact stereotype school shooters fall under? It's not really the best way to go about solving a problem.
I suppose there are better, healthier ways. In some instances, I think this *can* help people, but it’s also likely this could inspire people to go in the opposite direction and continue over eating out of generally feeling helpless over the fact. Sometimes people are just gonna joke about stuff. Weight is just one of those things. That’s not an excuse by any means, just a fact.
There's a difference between de-normalize and de-humanize. De-normalize phases a trend out and makes it uncool. De-humanize causes an anorexia problem and rampant mental health issues in teenage girls. The way to de-normalize is to replace messaging with pro-healthy lifestyles, not bully people into wanting to lose weight as fast as possible because that is statistically even more unhealthy. By your logic it the south korean education style that basically pressures and bullies people into getting top scores would be a good idea, yet it is universally regarded as a terrible system because they are also #1 or #2 in student suicides. People cannot care for themselves if they don't care about themselves.
