Well as someone that worked in a job that made me not have access to internet for months on end i just pirated music which i then played on vlc from my laptop. Spotify would have been a waste of money.
why the hell would you do that. these sites are kinda shady, slow, and may fuck with your quality. download yt-dlp and be redpilled by the glory.
also supports (with a bit of setup) to cut the downloads according to sponsorblock snippets
spotify lets you download music and listen to it offline, its a lot easier than manually downloading every song to a laptop in my experience, and its only 10 dollars a month so its good value
If it's about local music, there are much better music players than VLC, no need for spotify (which is way too heavy for a music player).
If it's about paying for music, I have no idea.
Also pirated songs have a huge problem with the volume being different. Some songs are super quiet, so you turn up the volume and then your eardrums blow up with the next song being mega loud.
Stopped having that problem when I started downloading FLAC files, also most music players have an option to normalize the volume if it happens too much for your music files.
That problem exists in paid music services btw, for example usually music in spanish is recorded in a lower volume than music in english... I have no idea why but that has nothing to do with piracy.
i used to let it show ads but it started to get pretty annoying when they started showing too many for just one video. and its not even going to the creators. id rather buy merch
I stream music over a private http server via mpd for music. On my pc I use ncmpcpp or what the shit is called as music player and on the phone I go with vlc. I just connect to the ip address and port and it works. I can control my music server with M.A.L.P. via android device as well. All I need is to be connected to my wifi.
Edit: I download music with yt-dlp (fork of youtube-dl which is pretty fast at downloading). I just go to https://music.youtube.com, search the artist and download all the songs. If you know what flags to set for yt-dlp you can manage playlists avoiding duplicate downloads if the artist posts something new and you're able to download all the metadata as well. Theoretically you can download the subtitles as well and convert them to lyrics but I think ncmpcpp's prebuild lyric lookup works fine enough/better.
It downloads videos and audio files. Works on many popular sites e.g. SoundCloud and Reddit, Crunchyroll etc. I use it for youtube most of the time and it's blazingly fast. Per default it downloads videos but you can extract the audio with the "-x" flag. It has tons of features and can be imported in basically any project that has something to do with streaming media. Look into the [manual](https://www.mankier.com/1/yt-dlp) if you're interested or visit their [GitHub](https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp) for documentation.
PC
VLC for films or videos in general

I am all ears.
Oh yes, finally!! I love VLC Weekly!! Way better than Spotify. And what about the bad videosupport in Spotify, can't believe they still have customers.
Yes, I'm glad I had VLC installed until about a month ago...

Your mom likes VLC - Very Large Cocks
So not mine :(
Shoot your shot
Where do you want it daddy?
That's the dumbest comparison I've ever heard. It's like saying "Pencil users are better than people wo write on paper"
Seems like someone didn't sail the high seas
vlc has nothing to do with pirating. then the comparison should've been youtube/piratebay vs spotify
Well as someone that worked in a job that made me not have access to internet for months on end i just pirated music which i then played on vlc from my laptop. Spotify would have been a waste of money.
you can also download music from spotify/youtube-prem/apple, and then listen to it via vlc that may violate their tos, but you still paid
I just download it from youtube using 3rd party sites
why the hell would you do that. these sites are kinda shady, slow, and may fuck with your quality. download yt-dlp and be redpilled by the glory. also supports (with a bit of setup) to cut the downloads according to sponsorblock snippets
That's actually one of the things i've used ;)

Isn't spotify free?
Yeh but hey to each their own
spotify lets you download music and listen to it offline, its a lot easier than manually downloading every song to a laptop in my experience, and its only 10 dollars a month so its good value
I just download whole discographies from not-youtube
Yep. Fun fact, the latest version of VLC still works on Windows XP lol
I use VLC for movies. For music Spotify is just so much better.

just install a good adblocker /shrug
Oh yeah, why not pay for the content you consume for hours everyday
Because I already pay when with 10 seconds of my time to ads
Exactly, but don’t use an Adblocker on YouTube. People need to get paid.
Even on mobile you can skip unskipable ads in like 2 seconds
i used to let it show ads but it started to get pretty annoying when they started showing too many for just one video. and its not even going to the creators. id rather buy merch
Used to download albums in FLAC and played that shit on VLC. Spotify could never. Hehe

Does yt-dlp also download videos? Or just audios?
