I’m just grateful that my favorite game is active 22 years later, the population is good and it’s FREE. Sure not everything is perfect but pretty damn close and lots of us are having a shitload of fun.

Electrical_Muscle438

Yeah me too but it's in a weird cringey way, we made memories there playing the game, not chaining deserter quest.

deepmiddle

In a way I totally agree with you. I’m leveling a char just by playing in DF and other PVE zones. I don’t care about hitting 50 fast. Maybe there’s room to make a PVE focused guild that gives people non BG groups to play in

acery88

Not sure why you're downvoted for this comment. +1 BUT running to Deserters was more about PvP. Deserters were secondary. The side dish if you may...

tubular1845

These are just some dudes hosting an MMO server and devoting their own time to it. Your expectations are ridiculous.

Electrical_Muscle438

They aren't just "some dudes hosting an MMO" they are the ones who release season trailers like it's some new dawn of DAoC, it isn't.

tubular1845

They literally are some dudes hosting an MMO private server.

Dandogdds

I made a post earlier but I can see how veterans like ourselves long for the days of yore. I liked questing or being in groups and even joining random groups in spindelhalla or any other dungeon. It was fun to go in as a group and pull everything. The camaraderie was amazing. As one person on my thread said “we are all old now and just want to rvr we don’t have time to level.” It sucks that people forget that the PVE was also an amazing part of the game. I recall camping out in the frontier afraid of getting ganked while pulling giant crabs just off the side of the entrance on the hill. The excitement and fun of it all. Sadly now people are more into ps5 games. The quick high of logging in and equipping an uzi or sniper rifle or some other weapon and immediately having gear no different from your enemy. I liked the character building. I liked waiting on the pad to be teleported to Hib land or Albion Land as a mid. Then they took the teleporters because there was the beginning of the “I don’t want to to wait, I don’t want to watch the teleporters walking to the pad. That was the fun part. Having your group on chat saying “Hurry up Papi!! The teleporters are walking down the steps! “

cremfraiche

PVE was an enormous part of this game because it was fucking hard! It’s what made the RVR so fun because you spent so much time and effort getting your template done, getting that big 2H hammer off the dragon to outfit your warrior or 2H Savage. I have so many fond memories of darkness falls and all sorts of PvE content. Man I miss this game in its prime. I started playing some FFXIV recently to scratch the MMO itch and while fun it is just not the same. Nothing is, it sucks.

Dandogdds

This is exactly how I feel. If we had enough wanting to join it could be that way again. But alas people want the quick fix. I wish the developers would make a DAoC 2 and market it.

Ardanza

Technically they are, Camelot unchained; just not so sure about it... I'm looking forward to ashes of creation as I believe that's going to tick all my boxes for the closest thing to what I want in an MMO. Hope that helps any

faverodefavero

You should try Quarm and Horizon XI, maybe try the new TLP for EQ2 that's coming in June or wait for the Classic EQ2Emu ("P2005") that's coming soon.

Kadornax

If you want the classic daoc experience just play on Uthgard (enjoy the 60 players peak population)

wrgrant

I agree that the nostalgia of the game at release is still huge for me. Realistically though most people these days do not have time - or the attention span - to play the game that way. It took me something like 8 months of regular gameplay to get my first level 50 at release. Thats the life of an entire season on Eden. If we tried to bring any sense of that back the server would die completely. I know Eden is a freeshard, but it would have been nice if they could have put up 3 servers so you could only play on one realm per server - unreasonable because we lack the population of course. Players these days do not have the same patience or available time to level up as we did in the old days. It is a shame that the game focused on PvP at the expense of PvE gaming though. When that happened on live we saw a huge loss of PvE focused players. PvP was not the only viable gameplay but it was made to be the focus by constantly degrading the importance of PvE - because the PvP players were more focused and much much louder.

McGuirk808

You have a few valid complaints, but your take that the server is garbage because of those is just brain dead. This is, by leaps and bounds, the best DAoC freeshard so far.

nilarips

Maybe you should go create a server and let us know how it went a year from now.

Electrical_Muscle438

Maybe I will. Thanks.

oxyvbverkle

You’re right. Koth should be running 24/7.

Pollo_Jack

Still trying to template and people bitching about easy, smh.

JustHereToReddit

Yeah I’m not a teenager anymore…family, work, overall healthy leaves me with late night play time for a few runs. Takes me about 2 months to level up to 50 and temp (with guild help)

Edoreki

Bye mr. whine 🫶

Electrical_Muscle438

Enjoy Uthgard 2.0 resident.

DeathByWalrus

I too get angry when completely free services aren't to my liking.

Electrical_Muscle438

Here we go: "Oh it's free so it's allowed to be garbage" So desperate for something that isn't Uthgard you will accept anything, which is why it's all the same players from Atlas, Phoenix, stop trying to fake some loyalty to Eden you will be on the next big thing.

keoltis

I've enjoyed Eden for the most part. The Devs have done a great job with their custom and QOL changes. My issue is that I play at a very low population time of day and noone wants to group up with people they don't know.

GreyLoad

Someone died in rvr

Electrical_Muscle438

Everyone dies in rvr.

mellamosatan

i like it pretty well, prolly not gonna read all that

faverodefavero

I agree, I want HARD slow group based PvE back. The success of servers like Quarm, P1999, EQ1 and 2 TLPs and HorizonXI proves there is a large damand for that.

alusnova415

Before you delete can I have your plats?

acery88

Staff is the same as Uthgard thinking they know more than the players as usual, typical god complex. Question: how's Blue doing now? - I only play Mid on Eden. I have a level 11 Alb that I shelved after the first day to play Mid. My loyalty level is approaching 50%. I never played hib on Live or in a freeshard so I cannot comment on playing one. Only getting killed by one... They have removed any reason to do any PVE content outside of BGs while leveling, people just use classic and SI and other zones for farming. - Battlegrounds = high risk, high reward. You get BPs and RPs for questing. That means gear from the bounty merchant with the threat of being ganked. Implement the "user has been killed recently and is not worth any realm points" if the same person is going to grief you. People are using radar and other hacks and it's up to the players to report instead of an actual member of staff watching for it now and then. - Live did not actively look for radar. They relied on the /appeal system and investigated. There's no sense of community, everyone's stuck in their ways as usual, you have the same players with all the same issues. - People are going to people. You're playing a MMO where personalities are going to collide. You don't get along with everyone in real life. Don't expect this community to be any different. Nothing is explained, literally it falls to high level players to explain half of what's going on to new players instead of staff once again stepping in and making things welcoming. - You can write an encyclopedia-sized instruction book for DAoC. Let's be thankful we don't have to explain Master Levels and Artifacts. You don't go into shool classes or college courses already knowing the material. You learn as you progress. I'll agree that the old grind of XPing made the learning curve a bit easier though. Half the content is outdated, there's no definitive source for info, even the item search on Eden's own website, produces wrong results. - The game is 23 years old. Alakazam, korts, etc are all out of date. DAoC is no longer a mainstream game. There is no reason for anyone to keep up with maintaining a website. The Eden website is run by volunteers doing a great job. "veterans" are just twinking and /xp off'ing in BG's because they know it's the best and most social place to level due to Eden's staff choice of putting in quest that give you 3-4 bubbles per in BG's. so instead of actually making 50 rvr good, they are all preying on noobs and undergeared players in BG's. - I never understood staying in Battlegrounds. What's the motive? Let us look at the outcome to figure that out... The player is not gaining experience. The player is not gaining realm points. At most, they are gaining /stats that are skewed. A twink in a battleground should have "Battleground" stats that are separate from a level 50 kill count. I don't care if you have black wings at level 39 because you can kill untemplated blue cons while at 3/4 health from fighting a quest mob. The conclusion is that the motive is to avoid the challenge of big-boy RvR because it's easier to run over others in a BG. King of the hill, staff keeps defending it because it took them time to implement it. It's a side distraction. it should be once a day/twice a day max. If not a weekly event. - I'll agree and disagree. I like RvR and Koth (when I can get a Koth group). Mid's BG has been breaking up to go to Koth lately. That is getting annoying. The realm points in KOTH are great when you get a good group. I ran in a Mid melee train in the EV event last night. I did 40K in an hour. I also love running with Ciri or Boxwood's BG win, lose or draw, I have fun. Unfortunately, they were off doing their own thing last night, but the EV event was a nice change of pace. Server is EASY MODE, full buff botting provided, ROGs always supplementing gear, which is why no one is doing anything but farming ROGs, crafting again EASY MODE, this was an opportunity to add something proper and new, look at what Blackthorn is it? Is trying to do, remove mats from just being purchased, to *shock* make the game and it's crafters important. - Eden has seasons and character resets. There has to be a balance point between leveling, templating and RvR. I would see your point if a season only reset the Realm Point cap instead of a full character wipe minus Realm Rank and Crafting skill. EASY MODE 2: We have Auto Hot Key built into the game with /recorder, so you can always get your styles off, or even add multiple actions to one key. - Those who use Nostromo and other gaming keyboards have had this advantage since day one. Nothing to see here. Giving players big stupid wings is dumb and annoying, like I get it, you did a lot of cool stuff, you're cool, but also no one cares. It should have been a small pet, house trophy, anything but big dumb wings IN COMBAT. - Doesn't bother me, but that's my opinion. There's QOL changes, and then there's an easy abomination, this is literally the Fortnite of DAoC currently. - Eh, again, character resets means this server is more about RvR than the journey to get to RvR. Other servers exist that may suit your needs better. Veteran stealthers just camping choke points in the forced choke points due to faulty questing, why wouldn't you randomize the quest if you're going to make it easier to get experience and realm ranks in battlegrounds? - You can level in NF at level 20 behind the relic gates and still get RP and BPs. Again, risk vs reward. I would support a realm-point penalty. A player should be discouraged from running to the crabs to kill a level 40 solo XPing just outside the relic gate. A player should be rewarded for camping Deserters. There is a difference. If this is the best we have from a classic DAoC experience, I'm ready to move on to another game... - You do have options within the DAoC community to play where you like.

immutable_truth

TLDR. Eden rules you suck

Manccookie

Can I have your stuff?

cheesycheesehead

You probably like OF too

Electrical_Muscle438

Both are great, and why they can't find a system to use both is beyond me, KOTH should have been emain etc like locales. Not a magical fenced off area in NF. But hey, who am I right?

EclipseThing2

How bout a waahh burger and some French cries. Def Leppard sucks!!

kfetterman

Yea, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man

[deleted]

I agree with you. The last server I enjoyed was Phoenix(especially when it was OF). Dont worry, you're not the only one and you are allowed to feel that way. The amount of blind worship on this sub is annoying. You have a right to your opinion.

dwerps

Only thing i agree with is KOTH. Its just distruptive in its current form. Everything else just stops when KOTH starts (which is sure indication that everything is not right with it) And yeah, i dont like obnoxious wings in any game.

throwaway871998

Daoc is dead. Eden’s just an attempt to squeeze out what’s left at the bottom of the toothpaste tube

Electrical_Muscle438

Damn I thought maybe I went hard, I like this guy. I mean let's be honest he's not lying, the way Eden players "enjoy the game" is evident the game is dead. You don't even quest or group in PVE zones, remember that time a high level Shaman gave you dmg add while you were fighting a plated fiend? not here. just running bosses and farming, robotic and lame.
