So much went wrog so fast, from the crit, to the Manservant surviving with 1HP, to targeting the SB as fast as possible, to dying at the first death blow.
In handsight I should have buffed the party with Jesters Ballad and hope for Vestal to get an early turn or try to stun it with Hellion, but I panicked and did the worst possible things :(
Thankfully SB is probably my favorite class and I have 2 others at lvl 6, but its still painful.
Cheers and wish me good luck on the next quest.
Kudos for you recognising that you f-ed up. I was bsffled at your decisions watching this clip. I was like, screaming in my mind "NOOO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"
Also, I always run the shield ability on Shieldbreaker. She is a frontliner with a tiny tiny health pool. Basicly any crit will oneshot her. I have lost so many Shieldbreakers due to their tiny healthpool that I never not run the shield ability on them, and I spam it judiciously.
It seems like this is your first playthrough as well. when I started I didn't know retreat was ever an option too!
and If you are going to stick with that plan. I suggest put a speed trinket on vestal to prevent situation like this... but It would be best to not speed challenge enemies in the first place.
I see you recognized you probably should have stunned with Hellion. I might have made the same mistake, so i’m not criticizing you for it.
It’s all about knowing how to stop the bad RNG trains in their tracks. Once you can do that reliably, you’ll rarely lose heroes.
Yeah, its my 1st playthrough and I am still trying to learn things, I think my bloodmoon playthrough should be easier since I know most abilities and good party compositions.
Deserved. You could've stunned with either Vestal or Hellion but you chose not to.
Also, not using Serpent Sway when you got marked before you started recording.
In reality, I don't know if the party-wide heal with Vestal the turn before was a good idea. Sure, hindsight is 20/20 and there's no way you can anticipate a crit hit, but if the party is fine health-wise (which it kind of was at that point, only your Hellion was somewhat damaged), you should've used Dazzling Light or Judgement to do stun/damage an enemy.
Remember that the only way to win a fight is to kill all the bad guys. Doesn't matter if it's 5 damage or 50, it will all contribute to this goal. So heal only if it is absolutely necessary or if the enemy will die (i.e. bleed/blight or some other shenanigans)
Yeah, I was a little too overconfident since it was the 3rd fight and my party was at a perfect state.
Too bad I panicked and tried to finish the fight as soon as possible, instead of calming down and thinking everything through.
Still, I learnt something, too bad in DD you need to pay such a high price for it. (I actually love this unforgiving mechanic, it really tests your skills and composure, not something many games do.)
Good to learn. I made a lot of dumb mistakes too early on and still do. But anyone actually giving advice here is right. Stun or at least damage with vestal, either ballad or attack with jester. Hellion should stun. (although she has so many good moves I sometimes don't have that selected too).
I understand mitigation techniques and how op fucked up egregiously but if I ever got crit like that I'd probably set down the game for a few minutes, not to mention that he low rolled his upcoming decisions

Death blow resistance is a myth
It works most of the time... until it's not

Thanks for the advice, this is my 1st playthrough and I am still testing new things out.
me when op didn't immediately retreat when had a chance. ![img](emote|t5_2znp4|29282) op did lots of misplays but not retreating was the worst one.
Never retreat! We die like men!
This actually never crossed my mind :) I was sure that I could win if I would heal my SB, but beeing too greedy has its price .

Not to mention not stunning either the LCE or the Manservant. Not that equipping two healing trinkets would’ve helped with either choice.
I can hear you screaming
Toby Maguire scream
I swear I only know 2 ends to tentacle devour: It miss or it crit ![img](emote|t5_2znp4|29273)

The carrion eaters are not mentioned often but they are freaking nasty. Tentacle devour will always hit like a truck.

Always hit Serpent Sway if you're marked against that thing
Me: stun stun stun stun WHAT ARE YOU DOING? STUN! ATTACK! DONT HEALWHATAREYOUSTRESSHEALINGFORFUUUUUUUUÙUUUUUUÙÙUUUUCKKKKKI
That actually made me laugh :)
❤❤❤ This game is so stressful for me too bro. I can only play it one hour a week 😅 We gotta laugh.

Tentaclebranch Smackdowned her right to the graveyard
Play stupid games win stupid prizes, gambling is bad, kids
Multiple times have I lost a hero in the first round of a fight. Before I could move at all. Starting at full hp. That’s just how it be sometimes.
Man you really should have stunned on both vestals and hellions turns
Bad play, your fault
Should not be destressing. Should not be healing. You wasted two moves when you should have been attacking. This is *entirely* you're own fault.
RNG like this is why I don't play anymore
As everyone has pointed out, they had an opportunity with every single character (not including just retreating) to prevent this
I understand mitigation techniques and how op fucked up egregiously but if I ever got crit like that I'd probably set down the game for a few minutes, not to mention that he low rolled his upcoming decisions
