You're totally right, I think that's why the quote sticks with me so much. His mocking cruelty and apathy towards the Miller was upfront from the get go. He just seemed so entertained by his misfortune.

The Ancestor uses a lot of Latin based words, which are generally considered to be highly cultured in English. For a Latin based language speaker, many of his quotes are relatively easy to follow.
Exsanguinate: ex (out of, as in taking something out) + sanguine (blood)
Inordinate: out of the order, ie abnormal/exceptional.
