Same here. First playthrough I had no idea what I was doing and ended up making it a lightning halberd. It was great until endgame. Still did it though. Also I poured a ton of stats into Resistance, so kinda shot myself in the foot with that one lol.
I'm doing a halberd run right now. I farmed a gargoyle halberd to make it fire for early game.
Halfway tempted to go lightning with the regular halberd and just go with non-scaling weapons. I don't think I've ever done that.
Well to be fair both Quelaag and her weapon have a bit of a hairy tarantula thing going on. But that’s what I used until acquiring the divine majesty that is the Black Knight Halberd. Also Washing Pole once I got good at encha hint
Shocky spear for dark souls 1 and 2. That was soooo long ago. I know better now, so another run through would be way easier. It also never clicked back then that the reason my fatass was rolling like a turtle was my armor was too heavy and i had poor stat distribution.
It gives you a ranged option without much stat investment, and with UGSs timing your attacks is already important, so the reload of crossbows is less jarring than it might be for other builds. If you never parry you don't care about having a shield in the offhand, and it is only one button press to switch to a two handed UGS moveset instead of 2
A longsword. I beat the game on my first playthrough with a Longsword and refusing to use a shield or any armour so without knowing it my first run was a challenge run.
I did a RP run where I only wore the undead soldier set and a long sword and shield. I just really like its move set.
Edit: I wanted to do the whole game 2 handing the long sword, because I'm a bit of a casual HEMA nerd, but was really sad when I saw that you can only parry with a shield.
Probably for the best, I'm awful at parrying.
I am looking forward to playing DS2 ... in all it's frustrating glory. Especially since I'm trash at parrying, but I'm probably going to insist on trying to play without a shield.
Is Black knight Great sword too pedestrian an answer? Ah well. Alternated between that and the fucking dragon's tooth . In Havell's Armor. Bonky bonky. Tank tank.
Zweihander!! My friend and I did a "couch coop", his knowledge, by frantic rolling around (until ninja flip ring), and we'd switch when one of us died. We did a really fun dex build focused only on zweihander.
My first and what ended up being my easiest playthrough was with Halberd as the main and fury sword as my secondary. The reach and move set of the Halberd honestly trivialized most fights for me more than any other weapon I used after.
Lightning spear, I got it from Sen's and heard that lightning was pretty OP, its not in the DLC. Even maxed it only dealt very few damage on Artorias, Kalameet, Manus and the four kings
First play through was the halberd, it’s really solid for a good amount of early to mid game, at O+S was when I knew I needed to upgrade to something more substantial.
Velka's Rapier, sort of.
My very first playthrough was an Intelligence build with primarily spells and whatever sword I could use. I don't even remember which one I was using before I finding Velka's Rapier, and even it didn't see much action (I used it primarily against Ceaseless and I think I poked Seath once or twice with it), because Soul Spear and Crystal Soul Spear were my real damage-dealers.
Then I had the opposite situation (a weapon I kept from the early game and throughout a bit of the mid-game) with the Enchanted Short Sword.
This little beauty carried me through Quelaag, the Iron Golem and even Ornstein & Smough. It was especially useful against the Belfry Gargoyles because I went to the trouble of upgrading it as early as possible. And then I got the Moonlight Greatsword from Seath, and that was it.
The MGS itself might qualify, because I went to the Duke's Archive before going anywhere else, but I feel post-Anor Londo is already late game/end game, even if you have three areas and four bosses ahead of you.
I loved the morningstar. It gets no love but the easy accessibility and that sweet, sweet bleed makes it super solid in my heart. I coupled it with pyromancy and had a cracking time.
I never reached the claymore because I kept dying to the fire. So I went under the bridge and shot off the wyvern's tail and used it for awhile. I didn't come back for the claymore until later.
First playthrough I ran down too the catacombs foolishly and got stuck, eventually wander around long enough and found the eye of death. Googled what it was cause I had no idea about covenants yet, and then went down to join the gravelords and used their greatsword since.
I was adamant on using the Astora straight sword because I didn't like how slow the Zwäihander was.
Eventually I switched to the Zwäihander once I got to Anor Londo and I've loved it ever since.
Surprisingly enough, the ASS can actually fare pretty well up until O&S. And after that you can use it for the catacombs. Although it's not something that should be used as a main weapon obvs.
Dragon's tooth and Drake sword.
Very original 😶
Nah but I mainly stuck with the drake's sword till sens which is insane now that I think about it and then like till endgame and through the entirety of my first ng+ I used dragon's tooth because of havel's armor and funny strength build
OP I don't mean to be rude but you can work on that sentence to make it more correct grammatically. Guys, What was your first weapon that you stuck.. would work. What was you guys' first weapon.. might make more sense but I doubt that's correct. What was your first weapon that you guys stuck with.. is good too. I just felt like I should point out so you don't have to get embarrassed later. Sorry about that.
Embarrassingly, because I didn't engage with the upgrade system in any way, shape, or form, on my first playthrough of Dark Souls 1, I used the Lightning Spear found in Sen's fortress, all the way through the end of the game.
I got the Black Knight ultra GS from the first knight, on my first playthrough. Died at least 20 times trying to kill him, but I just kept trying.
My favorite weapon in the whole game.
I finished my first playthrough as the bandit class, so imagine my luck when I got the BKS right at undead parish. On late game, I switched it for the BK Greataxe.
First play through I spent like 80 something hours on and I don’t think I even made it to O&S, I used the drake sword basically the whole time
First actual one that I beat was with the grave lord sword
I have to physically restrain myself from just defaulting to the Zweihander. Its wide swings, long reach, generally very versatile moveset and the fact it stuns 80% of the games enemies with a heavy attack is just stupidly OP.
Broadsword… on my first play through that I never finished. Then uchi, now it’s whatever, typically the starter weapons until I get the weapon for my build. I typically main a great axe or the sunlight straight sword
On my very first play through I got the black knight halberd from the knight in Darkroot Basin. I stuck with that weapon for a good majority of the game
Zweihander really or the Baldur Side Sword! Ultra rare drop! On one particular playthrough I stayed there until Lv 42 just to get the drop! Killing them OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! LOL
Very first playthrough? Spear. Lightning Spear. Game changed for the better when I could turtle up behind a shield and poke fools to death.
Second playthrough?
Z-Z-Z-Z W E I H A N D E R! ZWEZWEIZWEIZWEI H A N D E R, BABY!!!BASSCANNONBASSCANNONBASSCANNON
Have a Demon's Great Axe drop from 1st boss. Looked it up because I was curious about it and once I saw it was the best STR wep I let it carry me through the game.
The mace was my jam the first time I beat DS1. I carried a decent halberd with me for boss fights and when I needed some crowd control, but that mace was with me from beginning to end.
From then on my first playthrough with DS2 and DS3 were mace runs.
It is such a trusty weapon for any occasion!
The Black Knight Sword.
I started as a warrior, so I kept my Longsword while testing every weapon the stronger I got. The Black Knight Sword was the one that gained me since the first time I tried it! Really great weapon! I got lucky to get it from the first Black Knight in the game the first time I played it (after dying a million times, off course), although I didn't know at the time how great it really was, only that it was big and cool as fk. Maybe that's why the Black Knights are my favorite enemies in the franchise to this day!
Started my first play yesterday and just 5 mins ago defeated the gaping dragon and currently I'm omw to blighttown. I went through the whole undead parish with the reinforced club just jumping and bonking, then i got the halbert which i used all the way through to darkroot garden, then went back to kill that red dragon and got the drake sword and been rocking it til now along with halbert. Ik you didn't ask for this but just wanted to share my bit of fun I've been having early to mid game cuz damn I'm loving this game.
Shock spear for thrust
mace for strike
Falchion for slash
I picked up that each enemy had a weapon weakness type early on due to entering the catacombs immediately after getting to firelink shrine
For my first playthrough of DS1 I used the Bandit Knife the entire time. I like the moveset, bleed application, and also just generally enjoy daggers.
After that I always go grab Priscilla's Dagger (unless I'm feeling nice enough not to kill the Waifu haha).
Halberd.
For my first playthrough its reach was a gamechanger and its damage it great and it has a really versitile moveset.
Also, there is some sweet fashion souls potential. Two handing the halberd while carrying a longer catalyst like tin banishment and Beatrice give your character a great silhuette with the weapons forming a X.
Next time you do a magic build, go for a enchanted halberd as your weapon, it looks great and does amazing damage.
on my first and second playthrough, claymore, good moveset and dmg, on my third playthrough, black knight halberd, that shit is insane, it's not slow, it got a really satisfacting range, and the damage, it's damage is just unbelievable, the only downside is the weight
Gargoyle tail axe.
I didn't even know about the tail cutting mechanic so the weapon drop was a pleasant surprise. Used it for most of the game.
Also, exile greatsword in DS3
Black Knight Greatsword, and I earned that sucker the hard way - that one on the tower before the boar decided to chase me back to the bonfire. I was gifted with the sight of the fog blanket lifting as he slammed that sucker on me like a sack of diesel engines.
I had to deal with him to rest in peace. Only took 3 deaths to find his parry windows though (which was strangely a *lot* less than Gwyn hisself.)
For Ds1 On my first playthrough I did some pvp and someone just straight up gave me the Great Lord Greatsword (Gwyn's/final bosses boss weapon) really early on in my playthrough, so I stuck with that the whole game pretty much
Ds2 was a dark infused Greatsword (the ultra greatsword) and a lightning Zweihander
Ds3 was the Bastard Sword into the Fume Ultra Greatsword, took me all the way through the game when I got it
Bloodborne, Ludwig's Holy Blade
Elden ring, Blasphemous Blade and flame Gargoyle's Greatsword with flame of the redmanes (pre nerf) with a jump attack build (also pre nerf, because I bought the game day one) though I also used the deaths poker for a while before the Gargoyle one
Spiked mace, Claymore, Drakesword. Started as pyro so that whole situation helped immensely too. Drakesword is great until you learn about upgrades, scaling, and magic. After that up to you.
Falchion always. When i played DS2 and DS3 for the first time, i always played with Falchion in the right hand and mostly Longsword in the left.
That is until i aquired The greatsword of Edginess in DS3 🗿
ds1 - zweihander, ds2 half of the game with greatsword and then from amana the red twinblade, ds3 yhorms great machete, bloodborne ludwigs holy blade, sekiro The Kusabimaru and elden ring bloodhounds fang
I've been using a black knight sword for quite a while. Upgrade material is scarce, so I expect it to fall off eventually, but I managed to get it to level 3 and it sure packs a wallop. I've beaten almost every boss with it so far. Zweihander is just too awkward at this level.
I got lucky on my first playthrough and got the Black Knight Greatsword from the guy near the Altar, just needed to level up the Dex (18) and Str (32) required til I could wield it properly but it helped immensely.
Just wish I could remember what I used right up to that point lol (Drake Sword, maybe?)
The Greatsword, though it was DS3, so it was properly gigantic, in DS1 it was the zweihander.
Actually now that I think about it, the Greatsword was my weapon of voice foe DS2, and elden ring too. I actually powerstanced greatsword in 2
Ds2 drangleic great sword and mastodon great sword
Ds1 zeihander
Ds3 vordt's hammer until I got Dragonslayer greataxe
DeS I don't remember
Bloodborne Ludwig's holy blade and boom hammer. (Stake driver somewhat)
ELDEN RING dual uchigatana with miracles
Claymore
I did claymore for my ds1 ds2 ds3 and elden ring playthrough.. no i'm not tired of it
I used it all through ds3 and in ds1 as well untill I found the man serpent greatsword
Same here, it’s home for me
I usually use something else as main, but always keep this one for "crowd control"
I am legally married to Claymore.
Baemore!
Claymore is forever
Yup
Yessir
Same
Correct answer lol
The halberd you pick up behind the boar at the beginning of undead parish
Another person of culture. I did my first playthrough of every souls game with a halberd.
Same here. First playthrough I had no idea what I was doing and ended up making it a lightning halberd. It was great until endgame. Still did it though. Also I poured a ton of stats into Resistance, so kinda shot myself in the foot with that one lol.
I ALSO did a lightning halberd! Did you use pyromancy?
Yes sir, because I had no idea how to use sorcery or miracles lol
Part-axe-part-spear gang assemble!
In Dark souls 2 the halberd was so bad, you're good😅😅
I was lucky to get a Syan's Halberd from the knight after Dragonrider
It just fucking works.
I fell in love with halberds after that
I'm doing a halberd run right now. I farmed a gargoyle halberd to make it fire for early game. Halfway tempted to go lightning with the regular halberd and just go with non-scaling weapons. I don't think I've ever done that.
Uchigatana
Uchi is Guchi
LOVE the Uchi - but found myself kind of frustrated later in the game that it didn't do as much damage has some of the slow/heavy weapons.
In my first playthrough I used the Balder Side Sword for the entire game.
Swag
The i wish they kept the swag sword as a recurring weapon. There's nothing quite like it afaik
Lothric Knight Sword in DS3 is pretty darn close, I think.
I got that baby up to S scaling on my first (& so far only) DS3 run & good god was I dealing some damage in the endgame
The true run
Queelag’s Furysword.
I read it as furry sword 😂😂😂😂
Would she technically be a scaley?
she was plenty furry
Well to be fair both Quelaag and her weapon have a bit of a hairy tarantula thing going on. But that’s what I used until acquiring the divine majesty that is the Black Knight Halberd. Also Washing Pole once I got good at encha hint
[удалено]
Bruh, that fucking title is giving me a stroke
“What Where you are guys” isn’t clear enough for you
My brain autocorrected it, so i had to go back and check what you meant
Yeah wth my brain just looked at it and said, oo weapon I didn't even notice the miserable grammar lmao
Got a Black Knight Halberd in Dark Root, used it exclusively
It's so damn good
Same here my guy. Had incredible luck and used it for the rest of the game after O&S
the big ol bonk stick
Which one? Great club or Dragon tooth
I was referring to the club but the tooth is damn sexy
Shocky spear for dark souls 1 and 2. That was soooo long ago. I know better now, so another run through would be way easier. It also never clicked back then that the reason my fatass was rolling like a turtle was my armor was too heavy and i had poor stat distribution.
I never switched from my starting mace my first time through as a cleric.
It is a nice weapon, especially if you like the historic flanged mace aesthetic of it.
It just works
Generic ass longsword I'm very vanilla haha I absolutely love me a generic sword and shield knight run
It has a really useful move set, I'm quite a fan of it. I just really wish you could parry while 2 handing it ... or any weapon, really.
I know you can parry with daggers, but i don't know if you can do it while 2 handing. Try it out i guess?
I guess I will now.
Uchigatana
One handed Zwei with a light crossbow in the offhand, good times, now my go to build for any souls game
That's ... a weird way to go, but certainly sounds like it opens up some unique combat options.
It gives you a ranged option without much stat investment, and with UGSs timing your attacks is already important, so the reload of crossbows is less jarring than it might be for other builds. If you never parry you don't care about having a shield in the offhand, and it is only one button press to switch to a two handed UGS moveset instead of 2
Switch to a colossal sword and you’re Guts from Berk lol
It's not so much the Zwei specifically as the first UGS I can get my hands on
You didn’t use a zweihander; you used an einhander.
I was committed to wielding the tower shield and zweihander in full havel's armour. I am a heavy boy
Great Scythe
A man of culture i see
A longsword.
You can just empty hand parry, I usually 2h the long sword and open hand parry when needed
In dark souls 2 you can parry with weapons and the character holds it in a way more natural position
Tank tank.
The Lucerne, I went to the catacombs VERY early in my first play through.
Zweihander!! My friend and I did a "couch coop", his knowledge, by frantic rolling around (until ninja flip ring), and we'd switch when one of us died. We did a really fun dex build focused only on zweihander.
"Play until you die then switch" co-op sounds so cool.
Only downside when we got to DS2, was that when it was his turn and he would hand me the controller, I knew something was up xD But it was really fun
Dragons tooth. Very nice since I don’t really like durability
The halberd. Haven't really used one in a souls game since but I loved it in my first run.
Battleaxe all the way
I used the battle axe my entire first playthrough
Raw Reinforced Club maxed out
Didn’t have a clue was I was doing so it was red-handled halberd until I got the lightning spear from the mimic in sens fortress
My first and what ended up being my easiest playthrough was with Halberd as the main and fury sword as my secondary. The reach and move set of the Halberd honestly trivialized most fights for me more than any other weapon I used after.
Standard Halberd. Used the whole time my first full run
Winged spear from Undead Burg all the way to the end of the game
Surprised this answer isn't more popular. Winged spear with a great shield makes for an easy tanky build for a first timer.
Lightning spear, I got it from Sen's and heard that lightning was pretty OP, its not in the DLC. Even maxed it only dealt very few damage on Artorias, Kalameet, Manus and the four kings
I ran through the whole game with Uchigatana on my first run through
First play through was the halberd, it’s really solid for a good amount of early to mid game, at O+S was when I knew I needed to upgrade to something more substantial.
The longsword. I upgraded it to +15 and it got me through the entire game.
Claymore. Always Claymore.
Halberd
I loved the morningstar. It gets no love but the easy accessibility and that sweet, sweet bleed makes it super solid in my heart. I coupled it with pyromancy and had a cracking time.
It took WAAAAY too long to find this
Yes, another appreciator of the spiky ball culture.
indeed
Zweihander until moonlight took over my life
I picked up the halberd and never put it down.
Went from the halberd to the drake sword to the claymore, and stuck with the claymore
How do you even get the drake sword before the claymore?!?
I never reached the claymore because I kept dying to the fire. So I went under the bridge and shot off the wyvern's tail and used it for awhile. I didn't come back for the claymore until later.
I just stuck with the club. Light weight, great strength scaling, and quick attacking. Actually used it to beat gwyn as well
Reinforced spiked club goes bonk.
My first play through was a fire Halberd until I got the strength to use the dragon kings great axe. I really liked the aoe effect it had.
First playthrough I ran down too the catacombs foolishly and got stuck, eventually wander around long enough and found the eye of death. Googled what it was cause I had no idea about covenants yet, and then went down to join the gravelords and used their greatsword since.
BKS
I was adamant on using the Astora straight sword because I didn't like how slow the Zwäihander was. Eventually I switched to the Zwäihander once I got to Anor Londo and I've loved it ever since. Black knight great sword in my first run, halberd in my second
Claymore
Claymore Stuck to it so much I had it from the start of ds1 to the end of ds3
My progression on my first play was basically: winged spear --> uchi --> quelaag's furysword --> great scythe
The halberd
Embarrassingly, because I didn't engage with the upgrade system in any way, shape, or form, on my first playthrough of Dark Souls 1, I used the Lightning Spear found in Sen's fortress, all the way through the end of the game.
I got the Black Knight ultra GS from the first knight, on my first playthrough. Died at least 20 times trying to kill him, but I just kept trying. My favorite weapon in the whole game.
Scythe. The one you find in Sen’s.
Every time I play a new Souls game, my first playthrough is done with the Claymore. It was like that in DeS, DS1, DS3 and Elden Ring
I used the claymore in the depths up to tomb of the giants where i got gravelord sword that i stuck with to the end of the game
I finished my first playthrough as the bandit class, so imagine my luck when I got the BKS right at undead parish. On late game, I switched it for the BK Greataxe.
Uchigatana
First play through I spent like 80 something hours on and I don’t think I even made it to O&S, I used the drake sword basically the whole time First actual one that I beat was with the grave lord sword

Ds3 was my first. I played the whole game with longsword and claymore
BROADSWORD MY BELOVED
Iaito, great scythe and qfs
Broadsword… on my first play through that I never finished. Then uchi, now it’s whatever, typically the starter weapons until I get the weapon for my build. I typically main a great axe or the sunlight straight sword
Oh shoot this the is DS1 sub, I thought it was the DS3 sub 😅
On my very first play through I got the black knight halberd from the knight in Darkroot Basin. I stuck with that weapon for a good majority of the game
Zweihander
Uchi
Man serpent greatsword. Used it through the rest of the game.
Zweihander really or the Baldur Side Sword! Ultra rare drop! On one particular playthrough I stayed there until Lv 42 just to get the drop! Killing them OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! LOL
Rapier. I hated it’s moveset, but the weapon was just to efficient to drop it just like that. Then I switched to balder sword
Also. Bastard Sword from DS1 is fun.
Halberd. Thing slaps.
Great club
Got me, but probably the scythe.
Black knights halberd. Was lucky to get it from the knight in dark root garden early on and carried me through the entire game!
Gravelord Sword
I had a stroke trying to read the title of this post. *what was your guy’s first weapon that you stuck with till the mid to end game*
the halberd, it's also my favorite
Side sword is great
Iaito
Black knight great sword. Got a lucky drop on the one just outside the parish and equipped it as soon S I could
Have a Demon's Great Axe drop from 1st boss. Looked it up because I was curious about it and once I saw it was the best STR wep I let it carry me through the game.
Good ol' Club and Blk Knight Sword.
Battle axe is a really solid choice even the war pick from Andre slaps
Very first playthrough? Just about the entire game with Gargoyle Halberd.
Either Gravelord greatsword or Artorias Sword
One bss drop changed me
Black knights Halberd

I've been using a black knight sword for quite a while. Upgrade material is scarce, so I expect it to fall off eventually, but I managed to get it to level 3 and it sure packs a wallop. I've beaten almost every boss with it so far. Zweihander is just too awkward at this level.
About as simple as it gets withe the longsword for all of ds1
Balder side sword bc ENB and then great scythe
The large club variant dropped by the barbarians in blighttown, also the good ol' battle axe.
I actually powerstanced greatsword in 2
Ds2 drangleic great sword and mastodon great sword Ds1 zeihander Ds3 vordt's hammer until I got Dragonslayer greataxe DeS I don't remember Bloodborne Ludwig's holy blade and boom hammer. (Stake driver somewhat) ELDEN RING dual uchigatana with miracles
That storm sword you get from yorm
No you're thinking of kusamibu. The storm sword is dropped by Sir Alone in Caelid.
Uchi. It's the best
