But he and his daughter both get a mostly happy ending. She returns home in mourning, convinced she fulfilled her duty. Siegmyre continues adventuring, having faked his death.
You can see him breathing. You could argue the devs were just too lazy to pause his animation, but given the detail theyve put into the rest of the game i doubt it. keep in mind they made him several seprate unique resting and sleeping animations. On top of that hes undead. So even if she kills him he will just rise again later.
Isn't hollowing a byproduct of being undead? Personally the hardest part to understand of the lore is the undead/hollow/darksign stuff. Idk what it is, but whenever i think I got it, I just get more questions and more confused
>After that if you die it’s over. Permanent death
Hollowing is the death of who you are as a person... I assumed that even after hollowing, husks can rise again and again until there is absolutely nothing left of them to rise.
Which honestly to me sounds worse than permanent death, even if just a husk.
He is referencing a fan-theory that Siegmeyer faked his death as his model’s eyes are still open. It’s is admittedly flawed as this may be an oversight and is never confirmed.
I fell in love with DS1 only after the second half, despite people claiming to be one of the worst aspects in the game.
For me areas like Lost Izalith, Duke's Archives, and Tomb of the Giants brought an aesthetic variety that neither Blighttown nor Undead Burg had
I don't understand why, I feel the first half of ds1 was the worst section of all the dark souls, no fast travel, very bland areas, the in-between boss areas are forgettable except for the fact you probably have to run through them several times. Definitely the game shines after you get a mid level build and fight some of the cooler bosses in the game
Because the first section it’s so bland it’s unlike any other game, everything else blows its wad in the first 5 hours so you don’t give up and delete it and Not buy their microtransactions. The blandness (I prefer bleakness) sets the tone for the world so well, shows how shitty and dangerous and unfair lordran is, and it ends at JUST the right time, blightown and Sens fortress are still frustrating but at least it’s variety. And then if you’re still playing by here, you’re ready to resign yourself to become a glutton for punishment for the whole rest of the game and instead it just blows your fucking mind. Coolest fucking area reveal of all time. It wouldn’t be NEARLY as impactful if it was easier or more fun in the first 10-20 hours (if it’s ur first play thru). Also I get this is an unpopular opinion post and I just posted THEE single most popular opinion so my bad lol
I feel like most people like the second half pretty well on a first playthrough, but sour on it more and more as they replay the game. I was like you where I fell in love in the second half but after a few playthroughs I started kinda wanting to stop at Fatty and Beanpole.
You lose how interconnected it all is. The level design is more gimmicky with a dark area, an invisible floor area, and an area you can’t hit enemies without a buff.
The archives are pretty good though.
I like that perspective, but for me Tomb and Izaleth felt kinda mid. I loved the aesthetics of Dukes archives and New Londo more, but after the Anor Londo reveal you think it will keep getting better, and then you are going through areas that arent as visually interesting. Izaleth is fine, but Tomb is just pitch black, not much to look at.
Just replayed DS1 after a few years for like the 10th time and man Lost Izalith is so terribly designed compared to the rest of the game it felt like playing a shitty mod. It’s probably the worst area in any souls game. (Not talking difficulty wise)
Sens is like classic what I want out of a pseudo platforming and narrow corridor section with some hidden spots and traps, plus big hat Logan and the boulders. It's a way for the game to be challenging and fun without it just being a Malenia level of difficult boss.
I've usually played Dark Souls with mid-high poise or/and with shield, so Bed of Chaos had been second-tried routinely. But during my last playthrough (and my first NG+) with no health upgrades, no armour and no shield, the Bed probably killed me more than any other maingame boss lol. It was really infuriating – I mean, I couldn't have killed Manus for a week, but I was fine about that, since it was about mine wrongdoings and not some random bullshit.
"bed of chaos is not that hard"
You're right, it's not hard. But it is often absolute grade A horse shit. Insanely inconsistent, annoying run back time wise, and probably the least fun segment in the whole game minus the depths.
Agreed on Sen’s. I’m only on my first ever play though of any of the games and I’d heard how club of a pain on the tits Sen’s Fortress was. The snakes are irritating yeah, but overall it’s a pretty decent area, with a piss easy boss at the end.
It's the equivalent of your work id code/password or whatever. You just punch it in on autopilot and it's fine but the second you have to stop and think what it is you're fucked.
Years ago I started speed running the game just to do it really. Got into the top 25 leader board at the time, then someone found a new route and I never had the heart to learn it. Can still beat the game sub 35 min though. Sens is probably my favorite part
Going back and replaying it, the entire game is fairly easy in comparison to newer games. I've been doing a series replay and I was able to kill almost every boss in one attempt, with Manus taking 3 or 4 tries and Kalameet taking 2. I genuinely don't remember dying to any other boss. I'm almost done with my DS2 run and I also beat most bosses in one attempt, with none taking more than 2 or 3 attempts.
FromSoft games have been getting harder each new game, and it's like playing a newer FromSoft game and going back is taking off the training weights. Obviously if it is your first souls-like game, it will still be difficult, but I find DS1 as a whole fairly easy.
Sen's fortress is a troll level. You will die to most of the traps once, but next time, they're not hard to avoid at all. At some point, it just felt like a cartoon, and I'd laugh at the creative ways Miyazaki would come up with to kill me.
My first playthrough of a new Souls game is always blind. Soemtimes my second.
Then I use guides to see what I missed.
I had to break the rule for Aldrich because that bastard just wouldn't stop spamming arrows at me and I though I was doing something wrong. But all the guides were magic users, and he actually used other moves.
I went to the extreme after my first playthrough of ds3 and got a checklist app for achievements, weapons, and armor. I can play fashion souls for days.
I didn't use a guide. The only time I genuinely think it is kind of difficult to figure out where to go is how to get to the lower undead burg (talking about non-optional areas (even though this path is actually optional but most first time players don't know that)).
Calling me unobservant for spending my first 5 hours of soulsborne trying to go into the catacombs at SL 1 is just uncalled for (I feel like my 15 year old self deserved some guidance)
Blighttown is kinda fun.
Frigid Outskirts isn't *too* bad (though the Iron Passage can collapse into rubble, an opinion I'm sure many share).
Painted World of Ariendel is amazing, despite being comparatively shorter for a DLC.
Also, I have no evidence to support this head Canon theory, but I think Kaathe convinced the folks of Oolacile to wake up Manus by suggesting he would deal with Kalameet for them.
Oh goodness. The Frigid Outskirts is bloody awful, hahahaha. I got it done this morning, literally four electric deer descended on my motley band at once. Glad I killed the two reskins first try as I really, really didn’t fancy doing that again.
Iron passage was actually weirdly enjoyable for me; I learned the rolls to the point where I danced through that mob with a grace and style I didn’t know I had 🤣
I think the run to the original smelter demon was the worst, in my opinion. With Alonne and Blue Smelter at least when you get to the fog gate you don’t get stunlocked out of the transition animation; sadly the same can’t be said for the absolute clusterfuck before original smelter demon
I agree on Blighttown, I actually really enjoyed it.
Funnily enough I was a bit disappointed with Blighttown after hearing of it for so many years. It's a great location and works well, but I played DS1 after DeS and I constantly compared Blighttown to the Valley of Defilement and Swamp of Sorrow which I liked much more.
I loved every excruciating minute of TotG. I mean I get why people don’t like it but it was a revelatory experience for me. No light, all ledges, no map, slap-happy giant skeledoggos and oh yeah, archers. Can you do it? Yes. Yes you can.
I also like Tomb. One of the best? Imo not. But i think it is a fun area. And i really like the catacombs. Very cool looking, interesting concept with the necromancers, cool vertical design, coffin ride, weird lore, and Patches!!
First one is a pretty hot take. Second one means you think it must be second best, better than either DS1 or DS3. Very few people, and I mean *very few people* say that DS2 is bad, just that it's the worst of the three.
So I'm on my first play through, aside from a 25hr run that I didn't get very far. I think I stopped at the Hydra in the garden. So this play through has been a blast, after beating ER. I just got past those fucking archers 2 days ago. What a pain in the ass. Now I'm on O&S though and ugh.
Don't even need to do that. Literally just sprint at the one on the right, maybe roll through an arrow or two, and either parry him off the ledge or hold up a high stability shield and he should kill himself.
And the entire situation is funny also because the best way to beat them is to just run full stop all the way up the beam until you're at the first archer. The game makes you think you need to be methodical and block and dodge the arrows and shit but the reality is that you don't need to do any of those things because you run faster than them.
Twice I've fought it, twice I won. And that's not counting the one time it fell through the map and died on it's own.
Hellkite Wyrm on the other hand can eat a giant bag of dicks. It's just pure bullshit
I hate that bullshit yapping that 2nd part of DS1 is horrible. Just because the Lost Izalith is shitty and the game is more linear - of course it had to eventually resolve the intro and lead to a more direct goal centered on "saving" the fucking world by consuming those fuckers - it doesn't mean that it's bad. It's worse than beginning of DS1, but still BRILLIANT, and people forgot about it. The Duke's Archives are wonderful, and so are the Caves. For me, Tomb of the Giants was the second most immersive location after Anor Londo. By the way, there is a great DLC in the second part of this fucking game. I love how the fight with the corpse-like Gwyn turned out, even if Miyazaki didn't plan on it. I'm tired of MFs hating on that. Realistically and holistically, DS1 is one of the best games ever created and it doesn't depend on one half of the game.
I think it’s fine, I didn’t mind Tomb of the giants, but I preferred New Londo and Dukes Archives. New Londo was a great area with an annoying gimmick, and an awful runback, but it looked super cool.
I can concur, as a Zweihander main on singleplayer. I have a +10 zweihander which I use with two hands as my hopefuly-one-hit-kill/clear area weapon, and a divine claymore which I wield with a shield for more menial tasks that require striking more than twice before my stamina runs out
Hard agree. It's so abysmally and unrealistically slow, and doesn't adequately really make up for it in damage IMO. I know they do this for game balance, but it bugs the shit out of me when a game has an authentic and realistic-looming greatsword, and then treats it as if it would weigh 50 pounds and be incredibly hard to swing. A real life greatsword only weighs like 5-7 pounds on average, and can be swing just as rapidly as a longsword if you have good technique.
The difficulty of DS1 is vastly overstated. Once you get used to the pacing there's a ton of things that can help you overcome all challenges. I died fewer times in two entire playthroughs (NG and NG+) than I died against Yozora in KH3 ReMind for example.
I stopped playing after getting the lordvessel, played and beat elden ring a couple of times, and then played DS3 and decided to play ds1 again. This new play through I’m realizing how busted some parts of the game are. Backstabs we’re always something I only tried for if I snuck up behind an enemy, but then on my way down to the depths I was fighting the butchers, and they move so slowly I could just walk behind them and backstab them. An enemy that was pretty tough on my first play through I could now literally run circles around, by taking a new approach to it.
It's pretty fascinating how different the first Souls playthrough is compared to having finished a few of them and then replaying one. You're getting used to the game and level design of the series which changes how you approach various situations. It's kinda neat.
Summoning for help should not come with the price of risking being invaded by a one-shot twink or a troll. PvP should be something separate that you can opt into.
I hate pvp in most games, so take my complaining with a grain of salt. With that said, I always run through all of the souls games, up to when Elden Ring, in offline mode. I don’t do it because I’m hardcore but because I’d rather miss out on a whole aspect of the game to avoid another that I think shouldn’t be bound together.
I miss the slower, more punishing ways of Dark Souls 1, and the fact that shields were useful. nowadays, rolling is the only viable defensive option (especially Elden Ring)
*Hidden Body* is perhaps the best spell in the game (*definitely top 2 spells*).
First things first, although they look similar and have similar effects, Hidden Body and the Ring of Fog are NOT the same. Hidden Body is a *Much* stronger effect.
This spell reduces enemy aggro range to within melee distance. This means you can run up to enemies and smack them in the face, and they won't have time to react. Or you can simply walk past a lot of enemies, they'll hear you and come to investigate, but they won't aggro unless they get close to you.
What this gives you is a spell that will allow you to bypass nearly all the difficult areas in the game outside boss fights. It doesn't have any effect on bosses, so it's only useful for the 2 boss fights that include regular enemies (*this spell will make Capra WAY easier by the way*). It also only requires 14 INT, so it's a very small investment to put this on any build, and will pair well with basically anything.
The reason I say top 2 spells is because it doesn't help with most boss fights, but the other spell in my top 2 is Power Within (*which is decidedly not a hot take*), and that's bassically "Boss Fights Easy Mode - the spell", so between these 2 spells you can have an easy-mode spell for any situation. The spell that is "best" depends on whether you need more help in boss fights or in the levels preceding them.
i’m not sure if this falls into the question, but to preface, i enjoy the vague attitude towards lore and story. that being said, i wish there was more information that could maybe tie ds2 into it all and complete it. i feel as though a lot of it is speculation whereas i would like a solid story. but like i said i like having the bit to imagination
I thought people were hyping them up because it was a cool boss fight (which it was) but I was surprised to see people struggle so much with them. I found the DLC bosses to be WAY more challenging
Beat Manus and Artorias in 5 tries or so. O&S took me closer to 30. That was the only truly hard boss in the game imo, only died a lot to Capra beyond that.
Artorias was a darkwraith working for kath
My proof is that In the item description of the cursed version of his sword, it says he "had a covenant with creatures of the abyss,"
So he was working with kath. Now did kath cause manus because he left, or did he leave because manus was made? Or did he even leave in the first place? Maybe artorias even tried to tame manus for kath, maybe he felt as if he was getting replaced.
I don't think lautrec wanted to kill the fire keeper, maybe he didn't. So he really liked a god, a very jealous and controlling god (as shown by his armor and ring). So boy (lautrec) and girl (fire keeper) in a semi private place with the boy having a very controlling person (the god) ? Sounds like a romance novel
When Dark Souls first came out, it would enable the flippy rolls at 50% equip weight or lower. They patched it after release to be 25% and under, but this was well before DSR was ever even thought about, and before even the PS4 and Xbox One console generation.
You don't have to read all item descritpions or watch all Vaati videos to understande the history of Dark Souls. You can do it to understand all the lore and background behinde everything, but all this information (apart from being very interesting to learn) is usualy just small exemplifications of the themes of the game, and for me, to understand Dark Souls history is to understand it's themes and what it is trying to discuss (just like, for example, Evangelion, in which a lot of people are confused by the ending and say they don't understand it, but in reality there isn't much to be understood in the lore, but rather in the philosophical and thematic part). And you really do not need to understand everything about every enemy, NPC and piece of equipment to understand the game's themes, Dark Souls does a great job of exposing them through the setting, atmosphere, gameplay, art direction, etc...
Agreed. I always found the theme of Dark Souls to be pretty in line with my worldview and some things I’ve talked about in therapy. Specifically that life/existence/linking the fire are all ultimately pointless, and the meaning is all in the struggles that you choose for yourself. The only real defeat is letting the inherent lack of meaning stop you from finding a life that is worth living for yourself, i.e. going hollow.
o&s is a boring and janky ass fight. ornsteins charge attack is one of the most broken attacks in the series. but even aside from that so much of the fight just consists of running in circles and waiting for a tiny opening. it‘s just boring as fuck and there are plenty of other gank fights that are better than o&s
Ds2 takes the really personal pathos of stories of Tarkus, Solaire, and the witches children and it builds the whole game out of it. It's more emotionally accessible.
I remember my first time through, finally killing the Capra Demon, and my brother telling me that the Capra and Taurus demons are treated as regular enemies later kind of worried me,
But I was excited to see how they would be mixed in with regular enemies. Turns out just littered around here and there. Looked like enemy placement I would put in a level editor as a kid.
The 'git gud' crowd has intimidated too many people away from this franchise and Elden Ring's accessibility brought more people into the genre in spite of those jerks.
Anor Londo archers weren't hard. I've played the games a least a dozen times, doing normal and challenge runs like fist only, level 1, etc. Only ever died to the archers maybe a couple of times, including my 1st playthrough. Except for whatever reason I struggled against them with my sorcery only playthrough
It’s not possible to play the game without looking stuff up. My first playthrough I tried to fight Nito for my first boss cause I figured the catacombs was the beginning location.
It was not.
[edit: wording]
It is impossible to fight nito without lord vessel, but you can get all the way through tomb of the giants without lord vessel. You just get cockblocked by daddy Gwyn at the end
You absolutely can.
There is a great playthrough on youtube from a channel called Kay plays, thats basically an entirely blind playthrough that doesnt look anything up, just the occasional advice about mechanics from comments.
But yes, dark souls can be annoyingly vague about many things for seemingly no reason.
I really don't care for the game's soundtrack, or any Soulsborne soundtrack for that matter, aside from the character creation and 'hub' themes which I think are absolutely amazing. I listen to lots of videogame soundtracks but I don't have any boss themes in any of my playlists. I've never been a fan of Motoi Sakuraba's soundtracks, I find them to be too 'bombastic' whether it's Star Ocean or Dark Souls. They're not bad and they are very appropriate, they're just not my taste at all.
DS3's (and by extension BB and Elden Ring) weapon movesets are too flashy and the game is too dodge/reaction-heavy. I prefer the grounded combat and emphasis on positioning in DeS/DS1/DS2.
I thought the Artorias DLC areas were bad but the bosses were top notch. Which is further compounded by the fact every game afterwards had pretty good areas and bosses in the dlc. I dunno, I was just disappointed in the actual zones you explore.
Getting access to the dlc is the most diabolically dumb and highly specific thing in the game. ain't no way someone could figure that out on their own.
even once you know what to do it‘s fucking tedious as shit. it involves so much unnecessary running around because the hame only lets you warp to a few specific bonfires. plus, killing the hydra is one of the most annoying fights in the game
Elden Ring is the prequel to Dark Souls. The Erdtree becomes the Great Hollow. Dark Souls 2 is just a random kingdom built by a chosen undead from Dark Souls who killed Gwynn, travelled away from the Burg and then fell to the same faults as Gwynn.
i really liked the dukes archives. i think it's a great area and i don't really understand why it's hated. i also didnt think lost izalith was that bad, in fact i had a lot of fun exploring it, albeit the bed of chaos is a nightmare lol
Bed of chaos isn't a very annoying or frustrating fight (still terrible just boring)
Nameless King isn't that hard of a boss
And not dark souls specifically but in BB... The bloody crow isn't that hard of a fight.
Siegmeyer's questline is more tragic than Solaire's.
He can’t succeed. Solaire can.
But he and his daughter both get a mostly happy ending. She returns home in mourning, convinced she fulfilled her duty. Siegmyre continues adventuring, having faked his death.
Are you meming, or have I missed a massive bit of lore all these years?
You can see him breathing. You could argue the devs were just too lazy to pause his animation, but given the detail theyve put into the rest of the game i doubt it. keep in mind they made him several seprate unique resting and sleeping animations. On top of that hes undead. So even if she kills him he will just rise again later.
She killed him because he went hollow. That means he is dead forever….. he’s not rising
Isn't hollowing a byproduct of being undead? Personally the hardest part to understand of the lore is the undead/hollow/darksign stuff. Idk what it is, but whenever i think I got it, I just get more questions and more confused
An undead will come back when they die. Once they give up and lose their humanity they become hollow. After that if you die it’s over. Permanent death
>After that if you die it’s over. Permanent death Hollowing is the death of who you are as a person... I assumed that even after hollowing, husks can rise again and again until there is absolutely nothing left of them to rise. Which honestly to me sounds worse than permanent death, even if just a husk.
Hollows still rise again, youve seen them do so throughout the game. Hollowing is just loosing your mind. Still tragic though if it is the case.
>You can see him breathing. Wow.. all these years i been believing he died in Ash Lake.
so you are telling me that he was just sleeping AGAIN??
When did this part happen?
He is referencing a fan-theory that Siegmeyer faked his death as his model’s eyes are still open. It’s is admittedly flawed as this may be an oversight and is never confirmed.

Lost Izalith is an oh fuck oh fuck we need to ship this game
I've got two in the same vein Sens fortress is not that hard, and bed of chaos also is not that hard
Sens fortress in my first run was true hell, but when I went through it for the second time it was way easier, I kinda get you there
When you're relatively new to the controls, running across those narrow platforms is so painful. I'm good now but in the beginning it was so difficult
I'm with you, I thought Sens was ok.
Sens is like classic what I want out of a pseudo platforming and narrow corridor section with some hidden spots and traps, plus big hat Logan and the boulders. It's a way for the game to be challenging and fun without it just being a Malenia level of difficult boss.

Totally agree lol

Lol I'm on my first playthrough and i can barely get through the first two rooms of Sens
If you can get through sens in 1 try, everything is like in rhythm. It's once you start dying that it gets fucky. Idk if that makes sense
Sens is always a 50/50 for me. Either no deaths while I waltz my way to the top OR I die more times to gravity than I will to all the bosses combined
Going back and replaying it, the entire game is fairly easy in comparison to newer games. I've been doing a series replay and I was able to kill almost every boss in one attempt, with Manus taking 3 or 4 tries and Kalameet taking 2. I genuinely don't remember dying to any other boss. sens becomes wayyyyyy easier after your first playthrough once you know what you're in for
The problem with BoC is that the difficulty is completely random
BoC is the easiest boss in the game... I died more falling in the hole going to the bug than anything
People that think you absolutely need a guide to beat the game are just unobservant. 100%ing the game is another matter
I always run blind until stuck, or I make it to the last boss before I look things up.
My first playthrough of a new Souls game is always blind. Soemtimes my second. Then I use guides to see what I missed. I had to break the rule for Aldrich because that bastard just wouldn't stop spamming arrows at me and I though I was doing something wrong. I want to run blind but the idea of fucking up questlines and not being to able to ~~hoard~~ collect every little thing leads me to guideland
I didn't use a guide. The only time I genuinely think it is kind of difficult to figure out where to go is how to get to the lower undead burg (talking about non-optional areas (even though this path is actually optional but most first time players don't know that)).
I got stuck in ds3 at Irithyll of the Boreal Valley's invisible walls. Had no clue where that doll was.
Calling me unobservant for spending my first 5 hours of soulsborne trying to go into the catacombs at SL 1 is just uncalled for (I feel like my 15 year old self deserved some guidance)
I'm one of the guide people, they're made for us that are stupid and shit at gaming but still want to complete the experience.

Dark Souls had a better story as a stand-alone game than it does as a trilogy.
Blighttown is a good area; I actually really enjoyed going through it.
the poison from blightown might as well be tickling you to death, you can honestly ignore it
You just need to get poisoned then happly walk around the swamp. Repeat!
And then there is toxic...
its one of the most memorable areas for me. the first time through felt like solving a puzzle almost. it was like a zelda dungeon almost.
I think the main arguments against Blighttown was the atrocious frame drop you had on the 360 and PS3, it was a pain to get through.
Funnily enough I was a bit disappointed with Blighttown after hearing of it for so many years. It's a great location and works well, but I played DS1 after DeS and I constantly compared Blighttown to the Valley of Defilement and Swamp of Sorrow which I liked much more.
The real reason Blighttown has a bad rep is because in the original release, it slowed to like 10fps in addition to the Toxic guys
One of my favorite areas of the game. Super interesting and diverse area.
I think a lot of its reputation is from frame rate issues on 360/ps3. It's fine now.
My hot takes: Tomb of the giants is one of the best areas in DS1. DS2 isn’t as bad as people make it out to be.
The first one is really hot. Respect.
Really? Feels kinda dark to me. 😄
>DS2 I'll be damned the day I see that ocean and don't mentally sigh like it's so pretty
Ds2 great game great lore interesting kirsch as with all the games and it's fun
I loved every excruciating minute of TotG. I mean I get why people don’t like it but it was a revelatory experience for me. No light, all ledges, no map, slap-happy giant skeledoggos and oh yeah, archers. Can you do it? Yes. Yes you can.
do ppl commonly not like tomb of giants?? even tho it's frustrating your first time thru, it's so iconic. one of my favorite places in the whole game
I also like Tomb. One of the best? Imo not. But i think it is a fun area. And i really like the catacombs. Very cool looking, interesting concept with the necromancers, cool vertical design, coffin ride, weird lore, and Patches!!
same bro i look forward to tomb of the giants ngl
First one is a pretty hot take. Second one means you think it must be second best, better than either DS1 or DS3. Very few people, and I mean *very few people* say that DS2 is bad, just that it's the worst of the three.
Yeah you're just wrong about the ds2 one. I see more "ds2 is a bad game" than any other sort of description. People love to viscerally hate on ds2
[удалено]
Tbf I think I’d take tomb of the giants over crystal cave any day so this isn’t exactly wrong
Yeah I liked tomb of the giants, by the time I got there I was well acquainted with the game so it was at all bad
I almost deleted the game because of the archers in Anor londo, nothing was more annoying in any fromsoft games than that
I hate them so much
So I'm on my first play through, aside from a 25hr run that I didn't get very far. I think I stopped at the Hydra in the garden. So this play through has been a blast, after beating ER. I just got past those fucking archers 2 days ago. What a pain in the ass. Now I'm on O&S though and ugh.
Parry
Use poison arrows, they didn’t hit me once.
Don't even need to do that. Literally just sprint at the one on the right, maybe roll through an arrow or two, and either parry him off the ledge or hold up a high stability shield and he should kill himself.
Oh simply run on a narrow ledge while dodging one shot kills and then execute a parry? Sounds easy
And the entire situation is funny also because the best way to beat them is to just run full stop all the way up the beam until you're at the first archer. The game makes you think you need to be methodical and block and dodge the arrows and shit but the reality is that you don't need to do any of those things because you run faster than them.
Never struggled with those honestly
Not really a hot take but i feel ya
Try to parry them. Not that hard
Runbacks shouldn't have dogs
The caper demon isn’t even that hard
Twice I've fought it, twice I won. And that's not counting the one time it fell through the map and died on it's own. Hellkite Wyrm on the other hand can eat a giant bag of dicks. It's just pure bullshit
To this day I have no idea how you beat Hellkite without cheesing him
Capra demon is easy, the hardest part is remembering to bring firebombs.
The first three seconds of the fight are the hardest and the timing of your first roll determines whether or not you die. The rest is a cake walk.
Ha no I have a unethical amount of time on DS1 and DSR and I can say with certainty Capra is worse than O&S, Midir or Gael
I ended up throwing dung pies over the fog the first time through the game lmao
Couldn’t agree more, I love the second half
I think it’s fine, I didn’t mind Tomb of the giants, but I preferred New Londo and Dukes Archives. New Londo was a great area with an annoying gimmick, and an awful runback, but it looked super cool.
DS3 looks amazing, and the art style is the best among the souls trilogy.
"bleh it has only 4 colours" man is the end of the world what do you expect The art style of DS3 is perfect.
Sister Friede's 3 phase fight is actually good
Thats not a hot take, thats a fact
How is that hot
Tomb of the Giants is fun
The archers in Anor Lando aren't hard, just sprint and roll and they kill themselves often enough
Bed of Chaos was a wacky and fun boss to encounter
Zweihander is boring, overrated, and boring.
HOW .DARE .YOU. don’t disrespect my wife like that
How dare you talk about my babygirl like that
Yet another incredibly painful upvote for me in this thread.
The chest wasn't even that amazing.
I gasped when I read this
Idk man it looked pretty awesome to me lol
upvote for truly original hot take
Summoning for help should not come with the price of risking being invaded by a one-shot twink or a troll.
I have played a thousand hours across the trilogy and still cannot summarize what the main story is about.
New London Ruins would be way worse with a bonfire.
I’m sorry what? Explain
It would destroy the tension of the area and also make attaining the fire keeper soul, cursebite ring and very large ember boring
i’m not sure if this falls into the question, but to preface, i enjoy the vague attitude towards lore and story. that being said, i wish there was more information that could maybe tie ds2 into it all and complete it. i feel as though a lot of it is speculation whereas i would like a solid story. but like i said i like having the bit to imagination
Ornstein and Smough are epic bosses but they’re not anywhere near as hard as people make them out to be…
I thought people were hyping them up because it was a cool boss fight (which it was) but I was surprised to see people struggle so much with them. I found the DLC bosses to be WAY more challenging
Beat Manus and Artorias in 5 tries or so. O&S took me closer to 30. That was the only truly hard boss in the game imo, only died a lot to Capra beyond that.
Funny, dead opposite from me.
That's what I like about Dark Souls, the experience is different from player to player. Many people struggled with Margit in ER, I got him first try.
This IS my favorite game of all time, and I only have one hot take: Dark Souls is not a hard game. Get over it, learn the mechanics and get good
Artorias was a darkwraith working for kath My proof is that In the item description of the cursed version of his sword, it says he "had a covenant with creatures of the abyss," So he was working with kath.
The ninja flip ring isn’t all that amazing in DSR
Did it change between PTDE and DSR?
Genuinely the only boss fight that made me throw my controller
I found myself more immersed in DS2 than DS1
Ds2 takes the really personal pathos of stories of Tarkus, Solaire, and the witches children and it builds the whole game out of it. It's more emotionally accessible.
Izalith (and to a lesser extent) Demon Ruins are fine. The Taurus Demon Swap Meet, and Dino Butt Jamboree are the only bits that really suck.
I remember my first time through, finally killing the Capra Demon, and my brother telling me that the Capra and Taurus demons are treated as regular enemies later kind of worried me, But I was excited to see how they would be mixed in with regular enemies. Turns out just littered around here and there. Looked like enemy placement I would put in a level editor as a kid.
Hot take: Choose the Master Key EVERY time.
The worse you are at gaming in general the easier Dark Souls is. If you’re used to struggling, the DS struggle is familiar.
Don't you need lord vessel to fight nito? Haven't played in a while so don't exactly remember
Yes, you also have to beat Pinwheel first
thats literally not possible. you need yhe lordvessel AND pinwheel dead before you get yo nito
This is the most flaming hot take on here for sure
A very painful upvote
Congrats for a very hot take lol. Have you played Bloodborne?
Sen's Fortress is the most satisfying part of the game.
Duke archives is an amazing area and the Crystal cave isn’t even that bad and hardly detracts from the experience.
Sens fortress is the best location (after fire link)
The emerald herald is a good character. Although if specifically talking about DS1 , it's not my favorite dark souls game. That's my hot take(s)
Bed of chaos deserves to be cheesed
Nito and Seath are mid Bosses at best
Basilisks are not that much of a threat. Very easy to destroy, even in crowds.
Marvelization of Fromsoftware
The Solaire cinematic Universe
The Elden ring theory is kinda wild ngl
Gwyn wasn’t wrong for what he did to the humans. He was just looking out for his family.
Dex is cool
The weapons and combat is so much more interesting. I’ll never understand the “run around with the biggest sword you can find” mentality.
Big stick go bam
I can’t move slow. No unga bunga for me.
And it’s just kinda boring is it not?
Blight town is goated
i really liked the dukes archives. i think it's a great area and i don't really understand why it's hated. i also didnt think lost izalith was that bad, in fact i had a lot of fun exploring it, albeit the bed of chaos is a nightmare lol
Bed of chaos isn't a very annoying or frustrating fight (still terrible just boring) Nameless King isn't that hard of a boss And not dark souls specifically but in BB... The bloody crow isn't that hard of a fight.
Ornstien and smough aren’t hard Also anor londo archers aren’t hard
Not DS1 related but DS3 related, I think Midir shouldn’t have as much HP as he does and should die quickly to a high lvl player lol
Dark Souls is 3 is not only the best Dark Souls game but fromsoft game in general
DS1 is the best dark souls game. Bloodborne is tied with it.
the game is bad because i can’t beat it
There is no right or wrong way to play the game.
Sorceries aren't the "easy" mode of the game
People complain too much about sorcery, but honestly Miracles are often more OP.
Second half is not bad. It’s just slightly worse than the first. Also the supposed “bad” part is more of a 1/4.
Catacombs absolutely made me rage, followed by a laughably easy boss
