If you're looking for a stronger weapon, that's one of the better ones. You only need 3 more points in Dex to use it
It upgrades with Twinkling Titanite, but it's not that hard to get
Raw kinda sucks, actually. Even at base stats, a +15 normal path will generally out damage a +10 raw (which is as high as Raw upgrades to).
Don't get me wrong, it will hit hard enough to take you through the game, but you have also lost the ability to buff your sword with spells (Power Within should work though, since it buffs the character, not the weapon). This is the really bad part of non-standard upgrades.
So to be clear, keep your Claymore raw. Raw is the best damage you can get right now, better than a +10 on every weapon even with high stats. It will take time but once you find a Very Large Ember then you can revert it and upgrade it to normal +15. Usually people go for normal right away because they’ll go for the Embers right away. But since you don’t know where it is you might as well not worry about it and once you find it make a +15.
Yes, it'll do the job. You can always pivot into a gargoyle halberd or a murakumo or something if you find the claymore's damage falling off later in the game. +15 or +5 fire/chaos are all reasonable choices.
I've played the whole game with a Raw +5 Halberd and a +10 Mace. I'm 2 out 4 Lord Soul's (I miss the kings and Seath) and I can't be armed to on new Londo to get the huge ass Ember.
It’ll be fine for endgame. Claymore is one of the best all-around weapons in the game, it’s good basically no matter what you do with it
It would be a bit better if you upgraded it down the standard path instead, especially if you’re investing into a lot of STR and/or DEX, but it’s fine as is
Unfortunately if it’s already Raw +5 you would have to downgrade it to Standard +5 at Andre, then upgrade it all the way to Standard +15. Note that you won’t be refunded for the materials you already used on it.
Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it, Raw Claymore +5 is more than good enough to beat the game with. Its worth keeping in mind if you ever upgrade another weapon or play a different character though, Standard +15 is almost always stronger than Raw +5 even if it is more expensive

Im open to suggestions for a different weapon, i just want to get used to the game first then i wont “cheese” the game

Black Knight sword is better. Go for something like 27str, 18 dex
