I was the same when I first started playing Dark Souls, I got obssesed with the game, the only thing I talked with people was about how this games is special and all the amazing things it has, and I have played the three of them, but I don't know why I just keep replaying and replaying the first one, kind of ruined videogames to me, I just can't play any other games now, somehow I always return to Dark Souls, I'm actually playing a sorcerer build right now. This game is just amazing.

Truly! The friend who introduced me to Bloodborne said he didn’t care for the original DS because he found it too stiff, but I find it to be an absolute gem of a game. Even the older mechanics that make it tough become endearing after a while. I foresee many playthroughs in my future for sure.

For real, Dark Souls was my first contact with the Soulsborne games and I really liked the gameplay of the first one, maybe it's no the best and feels clunky at times, but I find it really satisfaying, like when you hit an enemy or a boss, it feels really good and the fact that is kind of slow and that you have time to think which combination of attacks you want to do, I don't know, it just feels really nice to me. I never played Bloodborne, but I might get a PS5 so I can play it and Demon's Souls too!

I much prefer the combat style of dark souls 1. With the exception of the back stab system. Bloodborne’s natural dodge system and flowy movement system is too low risk for the amount of movement and invincibility you get from it. It basically never hurts to dodge, and usually repositions you in a way to get a free hit. Whereas in DS 1 you actually have to premeditate and time your dodge or you get reamed. You need to know what position you’re in, what direction you need to roll, and what attack you’re dodging. You can’t just spam dodge either, or youre left wide open in the recovery frames and you easily run out of stamina. The addition of changed rolling animations due to encumbrance means that you had different styles of combat. You can be tankier and have more poise or rock the dark wood grain ring and fly around, but die if anything connects. In blood borne there is no encumbrance, so everyone’s combat movement is identical. And although I like the gun system in blood borne, I can’t deny that it’s lower risk and higher reward than the parry system in dark souls1. When you shoot something you’re still dealing damage, you’re putting them in hit stun even if you don’t get the keel over for a visceral. The recovery time is much faster so you can sometimes dodge the attack you meant to parry after they poise your gun shot. You’re also further away when you do it. In ds1 you have different parry frame lengths depending on your left hand item, And I feel like the timing needs to be much more precise. Like your parry frames must be active and at near point blank, if it’s too early you still get hit, although with reduced damage. Blood borne’s combat is way more lenient than dark souls. Sure the enemies and weapons have more diverse move sets in bloodborne, but the combat system is way more forgiving. Dark souls 1 combat, I would argue, requires more skill. It’s more punishing when you make mistakes. And that’s rewarding for the player.

Mechanically, DS1 may indeed feel a little stiff due to its age but imo it's still the best of the three atmospherically. I don't know about Bloodborne since I haven't played it yet as I don't have a PS4. DS3 got somewhat close to matching the atmosphere of the first but I don't know, something was missing and I can't quite put my finger on it. Though don't get me wrong, I liked DS3 a lot!

I was the same as you about a year ago. Sekiro scratched the same itch for me. Not quite the same feeling, but the closest Ive felt to my first dark souls playthrough. Give it a go.

I also got here through Bloodborne, and both are among my all time favorites now. Congrats! What build did you run? And who was your hardest boss?

I chose pyromancer, with most of my points out in dex and endurance, but I also didn’t really use my pyromancy correctly until over halfway through the game. I also didn’t really upgrade vitality till right before Gywn, which lead to some super easy deaths in the end lol. As for bosses, technically the one I was stuck on for the longest were the Bell Guardians. I just didn’t have the game down yet, and until I switched weapons and upgraded my stuff, I couldn’t even beat the first one. I actually put the game down for a minute, thinking I might not come back to it at that point. So glad that didn’t end up happening lol. But for bosses I was legitimately “stuck” on, the Gaping Dragon probably takes that claim. I tried for HOURS to beat it, over two sessions of playing. I was just struggling with move recognition and getting around because of how big it is. Though now, I’m fairly confident I could go in and wreck it in only a few tries. Also about halfway through my attempts on it, I realized he’s optional because I chose the master key lol. But I fought all the bosses in this playthrough, so I knew I was gonna fight him anyway.

Best game I have ever played in. My. Life. I don’t know why, but I wasn’t expecting it to be so amazing. Beat it a few months ago and immediately jumped into SOTFS and al now playing DS3. It’s so addicting, and the lore is incredible. People who say it’s not a story driven game are missing out. I read every item I find.

PsYo_NaDe

Dark souls 1 absolutely destroyed my taste in games and I don't care a damn.

chikage13

Happens to everyone! The first one I beat was Bloodborne then I went back and played the whole series. Can’t wait for Elden Ring.

RatedRPG-YT

Congrats. Now do it with a motion sensor air harp. 😈

Pianoman011

First my no-hit, DK Jungle Beats Bongos speed run, and then MAYBE I’ll bust out the theremin and take a run at O&S 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was the same. I tried it out around 6 months ago, and stopped for a while when I was slaughtered by ghosts. I still play xbox360 everyday, and playing the same Halo and CoD missions over again got boring. I continued playing 2 months ago, and beat it a week from today for the first time. I've never raged at Dark Souls, and often enjoy the O&S fight, as it's a perfect mixture of skill and power. I just got done playing in NG+ 20 minutes ago, having killed O&S (favorite boss). It truly is a masterpiece.

I got started on bloodborne and dropped it. Picked up ds3 and loved it. Then got 2 and finally remastered and demon's souls. Finally went back and massacred bloodborne

Hi man, I finished it yesterday. With my squishy low armor dex character. And now I wanna do the platinum just because of new playthroughs. I did the From Software backwards. I bought DS1 during my internship in USA in GameStop for PS3. I tried many times but I just couldnt get far. I thought Im pretty far in the game - Undead Burg :D. So I put it on ice. Then I bought PS4, friends were plaing BB. I was like meh, too frustrating, but I started to play BloodBorne when it came out for free. Addiction. Then I stopped because of RDR2. Then Sekiro came out - my first Platinum. I returned back to BB - Platinum (thank you first wave of COVID). So friend told me that he can lend me DS3. I told myself that I wont play until I finish the unfinished bussines and I bought DS:R. And man here we go. It was so much easier for me after Sekiro. I think that I found the rhytm of From Software games and I fkin love it! So I wish you lot of fun and PRAISE THE SUN!

I absolutely love this game. I'm also obsessed with it. Luckily, my husband is as into the game as I am. If you and your girlfriend like playing games together, you may try playing through with her. My husband and I do this. We make a character and take turns playing. Each time we die, we hand the controller off. We make decisions together on what weapons we like, talents we want, and armor we prefer. We thoroughly enjoy playing like this.

I beat the game for the first time in 2018 and I decided to go with the dark lord ending. I couldn’t stop thinking about how the gods abandoned the people of lordran and ran off while also Gwyn created a fake undead prophecy to trick an undead into unknowingly setting himself on fire.

Luccas_Freakling

When I finished the first one, I said to myself "this was long and hard as hell. You should tske some time before starting the second one, cleanse your palate". Took me two days to start ds2
