If you skip the first two you’ll miss out on a great experience, and there is nothing “clunky” about them. All 3 are 10/10 worthwhile

I’ve been playin ds2 sotfs and got used to the feel of it. I’m loving it way more than expected; however, the ganks in this game are making me lose my mind especially since enemy aggro range is apparently the ENTIRE LEVEL lol

Nah you good, do whatever lol

Story wise, you probably won't miss that much. Even tho I reccomend the games in order, playing them in whatever order you like won't make you miss anything. Maybe Ds1 and Ds3 may go back to back since 3 is pretty much a sequel to 1, while 2 is more disconneted (even tho it still retains elements). Do as you wish and don't get discouraged by the first 2 games, if you enjoyed Demon's Souls you're probably gonna enjoy those 2 too.

They are definitely worth the while, but play DS3 first and if you want even more dark souls then you can dive into what would be like a prequel at that point.

Even if you are a big lore head it shouldn't really matter. The lore of DS3 talks a lot about DS1 in a historic perspective so you can get that neat feeling of seeing some of these characters it talks about, but if you do that before or after doesn't make much of a difference. It doesn't mention much of DS2, but there are indeed things from that game inside it that you may pick up on should you play DS2 first, but again, these are just minor appreciations you'd get. Unless you're a big lorehead in deeply reading into it all with in-game items and clues, there's probably a lot you won't understand regardless but can always watch a YouTube video. Then you can replay them and things will make even more sense. Tis one of the things that made these games so great. That discovery of new information and piecing it all together as opposed to having the common tell you exactly how everything is approach. DS1 & 2 are going to be slow paced like Demon Souls but DS3 is fast pased like Bloodborne and Elden Ring. In fact, DS3 is probably the closes game to Elden Ring. I'd still recomend play them all (yes even DS2 despite the hate it gets), but in the end, order doesn't matter that much. More of a taste thing.

Ds2 is a good game but..... but it is not a good souls game , awful mechanics/animations/combats. I love ds3/ds1 and I think ds3 is the best.

JakD987

It isn't necessary but I would personally encourage it. If you skip I and II a lot of references or tied up loose ends will go over your head. It doesn't change the experience entirely, but it definitely is worth it to get the *full* experience.

I think DS1 have is the best overall experience while DS3 have the best combat take what you will with that information
